There were certain things in life which just made life better, no matter what; of this fact Chaya was firmly convinced. Today she had one of those things.
Chaya had a ball.
Not only was it a ball, but it was an old, dirty, smelly ball. And it squeaked. She'd found it stuck under a rock in a corner of the graveyard over the ghost dorms, and promptly decided finders keepers - not that most creatures wanted a smelly old ball, but that was their loss. Chaya was a canine, and the ball was now hers.
She danced around the graveyard, tossing and catching her prize, her tail wagging a steady beat behind her.

Nuru, in all his shaggy black dog glory, wandered past at a distance, just barely noticing the show Chaya was putting on... Who was that? Why was she so happy? What it she has there? He crept a little closer to get a better look. A... ball? He lowered to the ground and his eyes seemed to grow.

Chaya's ears flickered. Had she heard something? She sampled the air carefully. Yes, she had heard something; not only had she heard something, but that something smelled of other canine. She paused a moment and considered the next course of action.
Then she flung her ball high into the air. "OKAY GET IT!" she yelled.

Nuru was watching intently... untill she threw it. At that point he was making a mad dash through the graveyard and suddenly was flying through the air to try and catch it mid flight in his mouth.

Nuru landed, ball caught in his teeth with a satisfied growl. He began shaking it, just barely registering her enough to pause and stare. Tail swishing side to side veeeerrry slowly, uncertain if she were friend or foe.

Chaya bounced once on the balls of her feet, then went all misty and indistinct; when her form cleared again a second later, she was on all fours in her natural form. She shook her shoulders so the beads woven into her ruff rattled, playbowed, and patted the ground with her forepaws.

Nuru looooked to each side before abruptly slapping the ground in a mirrored playbow, thick bushy tail going a mile a minute before he suddenly ran at her. Stopped. Then slapped the ground again closer, a playful growl escaped around the ball in his toothy clutches.

Chaya's tail sped up until it was wiggling her rump back and forth. She barked once at Nuru, then pounced at him like a fox pouncing at a mouse, her forepaws smacking the dirt right in front of him. She snapped playfully once and dived for the ball, clearly intending to steal it right out of Nuru's mouth.

Nuru jerked his head back and out of the way before dancing out of her range and squeezing the ball in his teeth till it squeaked tauntingly. Somehow his tail went even faster as he moved sharply with every little budge he made to make it clear further advancement was likely to have him running.

This was excellent. Chase was Chaya's other favorite game, naturally. She bounded forward, tail going a mile a minute, a big tongue-lolling grin on her face.

And Nuru shot off like a rocket in the other direction, he quietly hoped Chaya at least was as fast as she looked.

Chaya took off after Nuru; without thinking about it, she loosed a long, eerie howl, the belling of quarry sighted. She was quick, nimble on her feet, fast in the first sprint, though she was built more for endurance. But keeping the prey in sight in its first panicked flight required speed as well.
Of course, this was just a game of chase, with a new friend who was willing to play. She ended her howl with a series of short, playful barks.

The howl seemed to egg Nuru to run harder and faster. Unfortunately for him however, his legs were built with more speed than endurance in mind. He quickly found himself tired out and padding along much slower than he intended.
He came to a dead stop to turn facing in her direction where he collapsed and dropped the ball between his forepaws to pant heavily. He looked like he was smiling as he tried to catch his unbreath.
