 The black lioness dashed across the grasslands at a remarkable speed. Never before in her life had she been so influenced to do something other than lay around and wait for someone to wander by. Never. Not even once. Even as a cub she was lazy; not doing as one could when their parents weren't looking. Instead she would just curl up into a ball and sleep. Now Ru'yah was facing a problem. Just yesterday she had gotten swimming lessons from a cheetah she considered to be her new best friend. Now, she wanted to perfect those skills she had learned not twenty four hours ago. She had too! If she didn't she'd be stuck not knowing how to swim! Based on what happened yesterday; what influenced her learning to swim in the first place, Ru'yah would like rather know how to swim than not. All this and yet, Jaryx had told her that she wasn't allowed to go practice on her own. Meanie. She could do well at swimming if she tried! So, she strayed a little while away from her cheetah friend, and just hoped to find somewhere to practice swimming.

"Alright." She said, stopping in her tracks. Now all she needed to do was to find a pool deep enough to swim in. Her eyes scanned the grassy landscape in search of a lake of all things. This was important. If the pool was too shallow how was she to learn? Exactly the reason she needed to find lake. Only she wasn’t anywhere near a lake. But she was near a watering hole. Ru’yah moved forward towards the filthy water and examined it. It looked near-abandon. Perfect! Now she could start her self-swimming lessons.
The lioness searched the border of the pond for a shallow area. She wasn’t too keen on falling in an drowning, so her only solution was to find a shallow spot for starters. Finally she found one, dipping her toes into the more dirty looking area she felt around to see how long it would remain shallow. So far so good, it seemed like she had a lot of room to spare. “Ok, first things first.” She said to herself. “I need to float.” Just like Jaryx taught her to yesterday, she allowed her front paws to float in front her, and then lifted her hind legs off the ground as well. Okay, now to swim!

She paddled in front of her slowly, aiming for the middle of pond, but quickly retreated back onto the stable edge of the watering hole. Too close! Too close! She almost had a drowning accident again. Ugh, how long would it take for her to be able to swim? This was exhausting (especially if you’re lazy like Ru’yah.) She needed to get this over with so she could sleep longer. That way she’d surprise Jaryx AND know how to swim. But this appeared to be an impossible dream, she wasn’t learning fast enough! She puffed her cheeks out as she clung onto the shore. Even a little cub was better at swimming than her. Thinking about that she swam out into the middle of the pond again.
Her head bobbed up and down, in and out of the water as she swam. She could feel herself being weighted down more and more, sinking slowly. Alas, she refused to give up though. Reaching the deeper end of the watering hole, Ru’yah clung onto the shore half submerged still. She panted heavily, catching her breath.

The lioness turned around again. This time, she’d make it to the other side of the pond without any breaks. She was determined to. And so, she was confident that she’d safely complete this task with no effort. Once again, she failed in succeeding her plan. This time, she really did start drowning. Her head slipped completely underwater, only for a few seconds, but this was long enough to kick start Ru’yah’s survival method. She splashed around violently, her legs kicking madly as she attempted to latch back onto solid ground. As soon as she had managed to do so, she crawled back onto shore and panted heavily. Way too close. Way too close indeed. Maybe Jaryx was right, maybe she did need someone nearby when she practiced swimming. Or else one of these times when she wouldn’t come back up, no one would be there to help save her. No one to shout out to her, no one to give her something to hold onto; Just like this experience, Ru’yah would be on her own. That was something to greatly fear more than not being able to surprise Jaryx in showing him her fabulous skills. She shook her head, stood up in the grass, allowing the hot air to attempt to dry her off. To self-learn swimming, it was becoming more trouble than it was worth. Ru’yah was never one to enjoy self-learning anyways. It mean’t more effort than she was used to.

Speaking of which, what was she doing out here again? There was no reason for her to risk her life to be here any longer, she had to go and find Jaryx! What if he left without her because he thought she ditched him…? Oh no! Her bright green legs blended in with grass as she ran at a remarkable speed again. The wind had become cooler when she ran, and the pellets of water that clung to her fur flew off as she bolted towards her cheetah friend. As soon as she arrived at their resting spot, she noticed he was sleeping, soundly, or else he’d notice her arrival. “Good” She sighed. She didn’t know what she’d do if he wasn’t there. Probably get up and start looking for him like an idiot. She shook her head again, the last of the water dripped out of ear and she laid down on the grass happily. Placing her head on her paws like she always did, she glanced at her white cheetah companion one more time before she closed her eyes and drifted off into her own dreamland…
