Briac pounced on top of the cricket, letting out a triumphant laugh as he trapped the insect between his paws. He was quite good at pouncing, according to his parents. He would make a good hunter one day. The best hunter in the Pridelands. The cub had slipped away from the nannies to explore. Stories were all well and good, but Briac had been itching to go on a real life adventure! Which, so far, hadn't been all that adventurous.
Briac let the bug go, watching as it hopped away into the grass for safety. Briac wondered what it would be like to be that small, and how it was that something so tiny could jump so high. Wriggling his backside, Briac tried jumping like the cricket, frowning when he realized the bug could jump higher than him. Tongue sticking out with the effort, Briac hopped after his former prisoner, each time trying to jump higher than the cricket did.

User ImageTruly a master at whatever-was-convenient-at-the-time, Nkosi had managed to give his sitter the slip. Not that there had been very intensive sitting, but anyways. He managed, okay? He was heading towards his destination, the elephant graveyard.

Nkosi wasn't quite wise enough just yet to take the threat hyena posed seriously. He didn't plan on going right to the heart of the graveyard, but he did very much fancy a romp around the outskirts, just enough to see a few bones. Maybe even a hyena! From a distance. Or a pup, if he saw a pup he'd be fine with going over and getting a closer look.

Anyways, he was well on his way when movement caught his attention. Immediately Nkosi crouched low to be well concealed, as he had been taught, assuming it was someone who could whisk him back towards where he 'should' be. It didn't take him long, however, to figure out it was just another cub. Briac, if he remembered correctly. Hmmm... With a grin, Nkosi made his way over. "Hey, Briac! Pssst, over here!" Having gone into hiding mode, he wasn't too eager to just jump out, so he remained crouched in the grass, slinking closer.

Briac started at the whisper of his name. Had the nannies come after him? Had one of his siblings followed, ready to tell on him to his parents? He would be in so much trouble if they found out he had snuck away. The black cub looked around the grass, trying to find the source of the voice. His green eyes landed on a light brown blob hidden amongst the blades, blonde tail tuft flicking back and forth as it moved closer. Huh. It was too small to be anything other than a cub, and none of his siblings were that colour.
Briac trotted over to the cub, peering down him. It was Nkosi, one of the other cubs arounf his age. Briac smiled, delighted to find that someone else had slipped away from the nannies. Nannies were boring. "Hey Nkosi!" He greeted, plopping down to sit in front of him. "Whatcha doin?" Nkosi looked like he was stalking. Briac liked stalking. Maybe they could pretend to stalk something or even stalk each other. Or maybe Nkosi would be willing to go on an adventure around the grass with him.

He waited a bit impatiently as Briac came to terms with the fact that someone had called him, glancing around to make sure no one was showing up. Aha, finally! He smiled, or grinned, once the darker cub came over and plopped right down. "I'm going to explore!" He declared proudly. Yes, Nkosi was quite the excellent young explorer. The dumb, reckless young explorer.

"D'you wanna come with? It's gonna be very cool." Which was probably warrant a bit of suspicion coming from him, but Nkosi's intents were innocent enough. He just wanted a buddy to go over and explore the outskirts of the graveyard with him!

Briac's ears pricked forward at the mention of exploration. That's just what Briac wanted to do! He knew he liked Nkosi. The black cub eagerly got to his feet, paws itching to get a move on. "Yeah I wanna come!" A wide grin broke out over his face, crinkling the bronze markings under his eyes. "It'll be much more fun than anything those boring nannies have for us." Even saying the word "nanny" made Briac want to shiver. They were probably the worst creatures on the face of the land, even more so than the nasty hyenas his parents had warned him about.

Good! Nkosi liked it when people agreed, without needing too much persuading. "Great! Now come on, we can't stay here long!" He apparently gave up on the crouching, sneaking tactic, and eagerly jumped up to his paws. "Or else someone might try to send us back to the babysitters." He wrinkled his nose. Sure, Nkosi could have fun with all the other cubs around, but... not always.

"Follow me!" And without further ado, the brown cub happily led the way, trotting in the direction of the graveyard. This was going to be memorable!

Briac stumbled back a bit when Nkosi suddenly jumped up. He scrambled after the older cub, desperate to not be sent back to the nannies. It was a fate worse than death.
He bounded up alongside Nkosi, frowning when he realized they were heading the direction his parents had said the pride borders were. They weren't leaving the pride, were they? Briac wanted to go on an adventure, but leaving the Pridelands...that was a little too adventurous. His mama and papa had told him to never leave the Pridelands, at least not without an older lion with them. And though Nkosi was technically older, Briac was positive they meant an adult like them. "Hey Nkosi, where are we going?" He hoped he was wrong. Nkosi had said that it was going to be cool, and Briac hated missing out on things that were cool.

Nkosi didn't answer, not out of bad intent. He heard the other cub's question, but didn't listen as he should have, and rather preoccupied on keeping an eye on their surroundings, he simply forgot to answer.

As it turns out, they didn't take too long to arrive. Sort of. They weren't quite there, but once they went up a small hill, the land dropped a foot or two, and then began to slope downwards... and then, you could see the bones. "We're here!" Nkosi grinned, looking out over the graveyard with interest. It was even spookier here than from up on pride rock! Frankly, he was pleased with that.

He had good enough sense not to just go sliding down and running over, and remained mostly hidden in the grasses for a while. "D'you think there are any hyenas about?"

Briac let out an annoyed whine when Nkosi didn't answer him. If there was one thing he hated more than listening to the nannies, it was being ignored. And in the large litter he had been born in to, it tended to happen a lot.
The little cub grumbled about his siblings under his breath, not paying attention to where Nkosi was leading him. At one moment he had been standing in the savannah grasses, and in the next he was staring at elephant bones. A lot of elephant bones. Which meant..."Nkosi! This is the elephant graveyard!" He skittered around to face Nkosi. "Of course there are hyenas around! My mama and papa said they used to live here." They had also said something about a fight between the Pridelands and the hyenas, but Briac hadn't been paying attention. He was willing to bet they were still around. "What if one of them sees us?" The cub whispered, green eyes glancing around the field of bones frantically. He had wanted an adventure, but Briac was starting to think this was a little too much.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 06, 2012 7:29 pm

Nkosi didn't quite understand Briac now. He didn't get where the apprehension was coming from, but that was probably because his own skull was just to thick to really let it sink in they might get in some serious trouble for being here. "'Course it's the elephant graveyard!" He furrowed his brow and tilted his head. Where else would they be?

"Well, if they used to live here, they shouldn't be here anymore, right?" He theorized, and realized that would be a little disappointing. He had wanted to see a hyena. Maybe not up close, but... Oh well. "But anyways, don't worry. Nothing bad'll happen to us, and we won't go in too deep. I just wanna get a cool bone!" Let alone the fact that he could get bones from the animals they ate. A bone from the graveyard would just be cooler because of the history attached to it.

"C'mon, we'll be quick." He said, and turned to put his hind paws over the drop, holding on to the grass with his front paws. Once he let go, he'd slide down to the dead-looking earth, but first Nkosi wanted to make sure Briac was with him.

When do you want to bring the hyena in? Gotta let Depawsit know.

Briac sighed, not sure of what to do. Nkosi said they would be quick...and they wouldn't go in too far...and the hyenas were supposed to be gone...and there really wasn't a better place to have an adventure than the elephant graveyard. The other cubs would be so jealous that Briac and Nkosi had come here. They would be famous!
The cub guessed that it wouldn't be so bad after all. As long as they kept it quiet from their parents, nothing bad would happen, right? He trusted Nkosi.
"Well, okay. But just one thing," Briac started very seriously, climbing down to perch next to Nkosi. "Last one to the bottom is a rotten antelope!" He let go of the grass, yelping a little as he slid down the steep hill.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 07, 2012 10:00 am

He grinned once Briac began to relent. Yes, that was exactly what Nkosi liked to hear! Bit more enthusiasm would be nice though– oh, there it was. "Hey!" Nkosi cried, indignantly as he let go of the grass and gave a little push to go down faster. That was probably why he tumbled down a bit less gracefully, but somewhat more quickly. Once the world had stopped spinning, the brown male found himself flat on his back in the dirt. "Did I win?" He asked, jumping to his paws. He didn't seem injured, but would probably have a few bruises later.

Nkosi's attention was distracted form the game once he looked around. There were all these bones! "I bet there's so many more deeper in." At the start of the graveyard there weren't enormous piles, but plenty littered the floor. He walked over to what might have once been an intact ribcage. "This is so cool!" He grinned. "When we're older we should go further in." He was, honestly, a little disappointed by the lack of elephant skulls. What, had all the awesome bones been moved deeper inside?

The Captain Britain
Anytime! Will the hyena just be scaring them and give up (like not actively trying to kill/catch them), or will they need rescuing? o:

Paw said she's rather nice for a hyena, and would just be scaring them off. So they wouldn't really need rescuing, but if you had a scout or another PLer who needed some RP they could come by and pick them up after they escape.

Briac laughed as Nksoi went tumbling past him. The cub landed in a heap next to his friend, letting out a soft "oof!" He picked himself off, shaking the dirt off of his black coat. "Haha, yeah. But only because you cheated." He teased.
Looking up, the cub fell speechless at the sight of all the bones. It was a lot of dead animals. He stood, frozen, jaw half-open, staring at the graveyard as Nkosi investigated the ribcage. They were so big. The previous anxiety he felt about coming here was gone, now replaced with curiosity and wonderment. Briac wasn't sure he could wait till he was older to go further in. "We could always go in now." He suggested, padding over to Nkosi.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 07, 2012 10:29 am

"I didn't cheat." He sniffed. "That was pure strategy." Nkosi nodded, 'twas the truth. Definitely, it had all been his cunning plan that had allowed victory.

But not he cared more about the bones. "Hehehe, I fit under them." He grinned, slipping beneath the bones the remained and posing briefly in there. He felt pretty darn cool now. Then Nkosi was surprised by Briac's suggestion. "Really?" He perked his ears. "I mean." He sat up. "I thought you wouldn't want to. But I'm up for it!" Nkosi was beginning to think Briac was an excellent adventure companion! "Come on, I wanna see an elephant skull!" He grinned. Since he pretty much had the get go to move deeper, the brown cub wasn't about the waste more time. He left the ribs he'd been investigating and scampered a deeper into the graveyard, waiting after a few paces to check if Briac was coming with.

The Captain Britain
Nope, that's perfect then! <3 I asked just in case it was a meaner hyena that wasn't likely to just let it slide xD

Sweet beans. I think she should come in tlk-style while they're sniffin around the elephant skull. whee

Briac scampered after Nkosi, unwilling to be left behind, alone, in the elephant graveyard. Sure, he had suggested that they go in now instead of later, but he was a little bit scared. Then again, what was an adventure without a little fear, right? Scary places made adventures more exciting, and it made the heroes more heroic. And who were Nkosi and Briac if not the heroes of this adventure?
Emboldened by these thoughts, Briac held his head a little bit higher, green eyes darting around the graveyard for Nkosi's elephant skull. "How big do you think they get, Nkosi?" The black cub asked, "The elephant skulls?
