Alexander had taken to keeping his dorm room door open, despite having multiple minipets. The nice thing about his pets is that they well..didn't even try to escape. They spent most of their time hiding in various areas of his room, beneath nests of crumpled up papers or tucked away in corners. Fei was the only pet he'd ever had that would escape his room on a fairly regular basis, and he was the reason the door was left slightly ajar now.

And just as he had been doing for several days now, here the runic vaisel was, quietly slipping through the door. The zomboil didn't have the heart to keep him locked in, knowing that he would miss Lady Terror and the kittens...and probably Yin as well. What he didn't expect was for Fei to be followed, by an all too familiar vaisel who was glowing a little more brightly and warmer then usual, probably due to the cold down here in Alex's room.

"L-Lady Terror?" His mouth gaped at the sight, even as Fei bounded towards him and scrambled up into lap. The zomboil set the book he'd been reading down to the side. "Fei, why did you bring her here?" He scowled, a quick glance around showing that most of his pets had scattered or made a break for the closet. He pushed the blue vaisel off of his lap and stood, shuffling towards the door.

"I'm sorry, but she can't be here." He scolded his pet, as though the vaisel understood everything that was being said. "She'll light something on fire, and Yin will be worried that she's gone. Come on." He pushed the door open wide and waited to be followed out.

There was no way he was going to be picking Lady Terror up and carrying her. Much too risky.

And so the zomboil found himself trudging along outside miserably, followed by two vaisels who pranced along merrily behind him, heading in the direction of the monster dorms. With any luck, Yin wouldn't even be at his room, and he could slip Lady Terror back inside without the weremantis ever knowing that she was gone. Stupid pets. More trouble then they were worth. He cast a sullen look behind himself at both of them.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:12 pm

Lady Terror was gone. Fei had already disappeared, but this time when he had come back to his room...Lady Terror was gone too.

And of course all but the most timid of the vaisel kittens had been out of his room as well. Arthur had just been sitting at the open door, surrounded by balls of fluff that he was leading astray as they rolled around in the hallway, and they had been easy to lure back with a bit of food. But Lady Terror was not among them. Naturally he had gone to the closet first, called for her repeatedly, and then combed the hallways.

But now he was past that, and she was no where to be found.

Yin might have had a few feelings about losing minipets.

He was just about frantic looking for the vaisel, sweeping out from the monster dormitory in wide arcs. His eyes focused on the flames first, then noticed who she was following...had Alexander...taken...Lady Terror? And Fei? Though the vaisel was his in all reality. But he was headed back toward the monster dorms.

Lady Terror spotted him and, flicking her tail at Fei, bounded over toward Yin, happily twining around his legs when she reached him.

They had maybe made it half way back towards the monster dorms, and Alexander was turned around, walking backwards as he coaxed both of the vaisels along. It would have really sucked at this point if either one of them had just decided to run off rather then go back to Yin's room, but there was just no way in hell he was picking Lady Terror up to carry her, and Fei would have just squirmed out of his grasp to be back down on the ground with her, anyways.

Suddenly, Lady Terror was darting past him, and the zomboil let out a small sound of exclamation, nearly reaching down to try and stop her before cringing and drawing his hands back and away. He turned around instead, intent on following her to get her back, only to stop in his tracks.

Oh. It was his ex. Well....this was certainly awkward. Instantly Alex's heart felt like it had jumped up and lodged itself into his throat. His mouth was dry, his eye had widened ever so slightly. He was slightly aware that this perhaps looked a little bad, him walking along with two vaisels in his possession that by all rights should have been back in Yin's room. And yet, he just stood there, not explaining himself, not able to talk at all, really.

Fei bounded past Alex as well, obviously elated that all four of them were now together again. One big happy family! He was positively purring as he rubbed up against Yin's legs, before turning and darting back over to Alex, sitting down, tilting his head back to look up at him with blue eyes glowing faintly.

If Alex hadn't known better, he would have thought that maybe this had been planned.

Okay so, Yin was here. He had Yin's vaisel. Something probably needed to be said at this point.

"...........hi........." His voice was quiet and strained. It was the best he could do right now.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 26, 2012 12:25 am

Well, it was a bit hard to just walk away now that he had been spotted. And with a vaisel rubbing all over his legs, soon to be joined by another. He just...stooped down to pick up Lady Terror. If nothing else she was a good shield for him. And maybe just...yeah there was nothing odd about this.

Alexander was just standing there, and he was just standing there, and the minpets were just...yeah it was just slightly awkward.

Yin stared at anywhere but Alexander until the zomboil spoke and then...well he had to speak too...right?

"...Greetings...Alexander..." There, he had done better, no matter how strained his own voice was.

Alexander shifted his gaze away from Yin when it became clear that the other boil wasn't going to look at him, and looked down at Fei instead, who was just staring at him in the most off putting way imaginable. Because really, he couldn't possibly feel anymore anxious at that moment. And then suddenly the vaisel was moving, shifting so that his front paws were in the air, an open invitation to pick him up. The zomboil reached down to do so, but as soon as he did, the vaisel swiftly turned and loped a couple of paces away, making Alexander stumble forward ever so slightly as his fingers just barely brushed against Fei's fur.

He straightened back up, blinking, wondering what all that had been about...unless Fei was purposefully trying to lead him somewhere, or maybe even get him closer to Yin, who was now holding on to Lady Terror.

There, Yin was finally speaking. A lump was beginning to form in Alex's throat, just from that strained sound alone. Why was this so hard? It was ridiculous...they had just spoken to each other on Fright Night, hadn't they? This really shouldn't be so difficult.

"I was just...." He swallowed, hard, trying to shift that lump away so that he could actually speak, the fingers of one hand fidgeting with the hem along the bottom of his shirt while his other hand was suddenly up so that he could run fingers through his hair.

He sighed. This was ridiculous. Really. Neither one of them seemed capable of speech.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 26, 2012 12:55 am

Alexander was moving closer and Yin moved approximately three centimeters forward. There. It was good. It was progress.

Just incredibly, incredibly awkward progress. Lady Terror seemed the happiest she had been in a month though, rubbing her face against his, making approving noises in his ear. It really just...almost made it worse. Made it all the more clear of how happy things had been in the past and how just...wrong they were now.

He was just...Yin glanced up, just in time to see his bonded...ex-boilfriend...whatever he was anymore brush his hand through his hair. Still just an empty socket. For just a minute the look that crossed his face was one of utter pain but he quickly masked it. "...who did it." A gesture of his hand, and that was it. Alexander would know what he meant, there was really only one thing he could be talking about. He had left him alone for less than a month and look what he had went and done.

The look on Yin's face...Alexander was always forgetting now that his eye was gone. Had gotten used to it, really. He knew that he should have replaced it by now but maybe he chose not to as a reminder not to do something so stupid ever again. Throwing himself into the haunted house to find hunters and fight them, over and over again. It had been stupid, and reckless, and so much worse could have happened. But that pain that showed on..on his bonded? Were they still bonded? He had no idea. He was afraid to ask, afraid of the answer and how much more real that answer could have made this situation. Or maybe he was afraid to know for different reasons altogether.

He took just one more small shuffling step forward, unable to stop himself, like even though this was the last thing he wanted to be doing, he might be able to reach out with one hand and somehow ease that pain off of Yin's face, though he was sure his own face mirrored the emotion. But as soon as the look was there, it was gone, hidden behind some mask.

who did it.

Alex allowed for some air to escape between clenched teeth before he took a deep breath, trying to steady the raw feelings inside of him before speaking again. "A hunter." he finally gasped out, closing his eye, brow furrowed from the pain that he did not choose to hide, even if Yin hid his.

"I'm sorry." His voice a choked whisper. He meant he was sorry about getting himself hurt but...he was sorry for so much more then that as well. But it was too late to apologize for what had happened back then. The damage was already done.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 26, 2012 1:29 am

A hunter.

Of course it was a hunter.

He let out a hiss of his own, a full, mantisy hiss rather than a simple escape of air. From whatever look was on Alexander's face, from the fact that it was indeed a hunter and hearing it from him...just everything. It was ridiculous.

Lady Terror fidgeted nervously and jumped down to rub against Fei, watching them both. This was not what she wanted.

And which hunter was it? Was it one of the ones he knew? That he had spoken to? Was it just...did it matter? One more thing the hunters had taken. One more thing he did not know how to deal with, how to respond to. Barely over a month ago he would have been trying to figure out whatever he could to fix it, to avenge it, to...it was really not his place anymore.

The apology, which he took for what it actually was did soften him slightly. "Did you go see Nurse Cricket?" When in doubt...go to Nurse Cricket.

The hiss had him cringing away, but at least he didn't take a step back, just opened his eye again, stared at Yin, licked his lips which were suddenly just as dry as his mouth and throat. "I should have been more careful." He would have been more careful, if he hadn't been in such a foul frame of mind back then. But Yin didn't need to know that, and he wasn't about to tell him. All the blame rested squarely on his own shoulders, for being an absolute idiot.

Fei's ears were drooping the tiniest bit. Why weren't they happy to see each other? This was all wrong. He nuzzled his face against Lady Terror and waited for whatever would happen next.

"No I...I didn't go and see Nurse Cricket." Another mistake, really. He should have, but he'd been too wrapped up in his own anger, his need for revenge that had just been so incredibly strong that he couldn't think of anything else. He knew now that the crystal had played a large role in that, and how to be more careful with it in the future.

Just as he should probably be careful now. His feelings for Yin...his emotions that he finally thought he had gotten under control..that all seemed to fly out the window when made to be face to face with the boil once more.

"Yǐn Cáng.." His voice was still low, still a whisper, the name rolling off of his tongue easily since he had spent so much time with the boil and had had nearly a year to get it right. "I'm really sorry." Despite knowing he couldn't apologize for everything, he still couldn't stop himself from doing so. Not that Yin would know that's what he was trying to do. He sucked in another deep breath, slowly, and shuffled forward maybe another two inches, the vaisels sitting on the ground directly between them both.

At this point he was really considering just bending down to grab Fei and parting ways, but at the same time...at the same time it almost felt like this was necessary. They needed to be able to do this, to get past this. He needed to stop feeling like he was well and truly dying every time he was in Yin's presence. There was nothing okay about this.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 26, 2012 2:19 am

"Yes." Yes he should have been more careful. How he could let a hunter get to him, to gouge his eye out was beyond him...though really, he was the absolute last one to talk. He would have gladly given his eye to have his darling back by his side.

So he had not see the Nurse. Yin wondered if there was anything she could still do, willing to talk to her, though he expected no sort of special treatment. He was already receiving enough, though Alexander was one of her students so there was always that chance.

He was musing on that when all his thoughts where chased away by the zomboil's whisper. His name, said by that voice, something he could not ignore. Would not ignore. The words cut through him, seeming like he was referring to so much more than his eye, his physical well being. Moving toward him. It was chipping away at the mask that he tried so very hard to put up around others. The one he used on himself when he told himself everything was just fine and would be okay and maybe if he just meditated all would be well.

But here and now it was just crumbling away piece by piece. "I know." His voice wavering, even as he tried to keep himself together. He was in public. "I am sorry as well." For everything that had happened really.

Nothing was really that easy though. An apology did not repair the hurt, the insecurities, the entire past month where they had not been there for each other. He did not move forward, holding his ground, fairly certain that if he took a step back like he wanted to even this fragile chance at talking would be ruined, even though in a way he wanted it to be over. "I am...we are not the same." A statement. Not just referring to physical changes but just...everything that had been happening to him. Just a reminder. What they had had...they would never go back to. Scareling's innocence. Just a reminder. Simple words could not change that.

"Just...be happy, Alexander." He sighed, not sure of what else to say, knowing that that was the only productive thing he really could say. "Be happy."

It warmed him a very little to hear that Yin was sorry as well. All this time, these last few weeks he just assumed that the other boil must hate him. For them to go from something so good to so sour in such a short frame of time...because no, Alexander refused to believe that this had been coming on from the beginning. He refused to think that ever becoming more then friends had been a mistake that had been fated to end badly no matter what they did. Something had happened along the way and neither one of them had been able to cope anymore, and things had ended, suddenly, not over the course of a few months. One week, trying to move past something traumatic, finding happiness where they could, together. The next? Kicked out, pushed away, and not doing a thing to fight it...

He stopped moving forward and just stood there, not knowing what to say next, or where to go from here. He didn't want things to be like this between them anymore, strained and awkward. This was the boil who a month ago he was more comfortable around then anybody else. The apology had removed some of the tension from the zomboils body, but not all of it, not by far.

He was just about to lean down to pick up Fei, who was now practically at his feet, when Yin continued to speak, and a cold chill rolled through him. "No, we are not." He agreed, slowly. But what did that even mean?

"Nobody stays the same forever, Yǐn Cáng." He wanted to leave it at that, but then he sighed again, and reached a hand up to rub at his eye. "You just try to adjust when you can. If you can." Alex had tried, hadn't he? Or had he given up? Had they both just given up? If so...that had been wrong.

Just, be happy, Alexander.

He let his arm fall back down to his side as he stared openly at the other boil. Happy? "I'm trying." His reply came in a voice that was just as strained as it had been at the beginning.

"It's...not easy." There, that was the understatement of a lifetime. Still, the zomboil gave the weremantis a small, tight lipped smile.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 26, 2012 10:52 am

No, no one stayed the same forever. But few, or at least, he desperately hoped few, were tagged by hunters. Had their closest love one killed by hunters. And then, to just add to an already crazy couple of months grow into what was somewhat adulthood even if no matter how hard he tried to act the part he kept failing at, move up in his education, and get adopted. It was just...it was a lot. He had managed to somewhat stand strong, managed to at least give off the appearance that he knew what he was doing. Had hid the little cracks that worried at him when he was alone, just covered up the always present indications that everything was far from right. He just had to act like everything was perfect, and then everything would be okay. He would be okay. He just had to keep moving on. He could not afford to stay in one place for too long.

He just nodded in agreement. Adjust adjust adjust. Mask mask mask. No one needed to know about anything else. Just be happy, even if you did not feel like it, because there was no other solution that really worked. At least Alexander was trying. He wanted to be happy to, and that...that was good. He had to be happy. The zomboil had done too much, he had earned a bit of happiness. As for himself...he was happy. He was, there was happiness in him. Sure there was pain, fear, anger, lurking just below the surface, but he was happy. He...he had a family now. And friends still. It would have been better if he had had his best friend as well but he was just being selfish. It was still for the best this way.

"It will be easier," he said quietly, though if he was really speaking to Alexander or more to himself was hard to tell.

And really? He had no more to say. It hurt just to stand across from him like this. Knowing what had been, and where things were at now. And he did not want to deal with it any longer. It brought too many things to the surface that he was trying to shove down. "Do you require anything of me?" Slightly dismissive. He just needed to get away for a bit, this was too much for the moment. He would not just walk away though, nothing would get solved with that. But the indication that he was thinking about leaving was certainly there. But still, an open invitation if Alexander needed anything from him before this encounter was over.

It will get easier. Why was that what everyone kept saying? He still couldn't believe it. A month later, and was this any easier? Mind you, not having any past breakups to compare this one with, this might have been completely normal. It was just somewhat astounding that they were both clearly unhappy. If you were in a bad relationship and broke it off, surely one of the party should have found happiness in that. He frowned, still feeling like this just wasn't right. But he knew Yin had been through so much more then just a breakup...and that it was probably the least on his list of horrible things where as it was at the top of Alex's. He'd lost his best friend, and there was an aching empty hole inside of him that refused to fill or diminish in any way. Yin had lost that, and had been tagged, and had apparently lost Princess Eva as well.

At Yin's last words, the tone of them clearly a dismissal, a tone that brought back painful memories, he steeled himself. Yes, Yin, you could say Alex required things from him. There were things he still wanted from the other boil. But to voice that here and now, when he so obviously wished for the opposite well..no, he wouldn't do that.

"No just..." He closed his eye again, and then opened it "Wait...yes." He was struggling with something here, trying to come up with the words that he wanted to say without giving away his feelings too much if at all.

"Just..stay safe, please? And..and if you need me for anything just...don't hesitate. I...I still care about you...a lot.." There, he hadn't meant to say that last part of it, but he had, albeit very quietly while struggling not to look away from Yin. He'd always had trouble with keeping some things in his head instead of blurting them out loud.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 26, 2012 12:22 pm

Yin was ready to move on, about to get Lady Terror and make the trek back to his room. But instead, Alexander was changing his mind, telling him that there was more. Yin waited, he would always wait if Alexander needed something from him. They were still bonded and to Yin...that gave Alexander a certain measure of his attention. He would at the very least pause to hear what he had to say.

"I shall try," and really he would. But there was only so much he could do. He would fight his hardest to stay safe, and he would make it his goal, but he could not guarantee it. Maybe in he past he would foolishly claim that he could, but now he had learned the hard way. What was curious was that the zomboil kept talking and Yin looked up as his voice began to trail off, a flash of hope crossing his face quickly chased away by a grimace of pain.

Alexander still cared about him. And it was more than obvious that he still cared about the zomboil, if he had not it would not hurt as much as it did. Still, it was hard to deal with it right now. "October 6th," he found himself saying. The date was important, though at the moment he could not...wait, his day of birth perhaps...yes that was it. "October 6th I will be in the library." That was all he could manage for now. Alexander could decide what he meant by all of that. That Yin was telling him where he would be on a special day for him right after he said he cared about him. That would give him time to think...both of them time to think. To figure out where they both were. To be prepared to talk rather than just staring at each other awkwardly.

He looked away, stooping to pick up Lady Terror. He needed...he needed to go do something.

Alexander waited, self conscious now, worried that he had said too much, revealed more then he had intended about how he was feeling, though really it was probably obvious by the way he was interacting with the other boil that he still felt something for him. And maybe he was just imagining it, but he thought that there was the possibility Yin still felt something too. Otherwise..why talk? They could have gone their separate ways long before this moment. But again, it was probably just his imagination.

Wait, October sixth? That was his birthday. Why would Yin...

Hope, unbidden, small and barely felt amongst all other emotions but still there, burning deep within. "Okay..." He whispered, quietly, nodding to himself.

"Okay." He repeated himself a little louder, bending down nearly at the same time as Yin as though to pick up Fei, but then stopping and just stroked him on the head instead.

"You go back with Yin now, back with Lady Terror and the kittens." He mumbled, quietly, then smiled a little to himself, and let out another small sight before straightening back up. Sad, always sad, but maybe not quite as much as he might have been if this awkward chance meeting had gone any differently.

"I'll see you later." He had so much to think about now, so much of what just happened to process. October 6th though..that was still a week and a half away. A lot of time to think. A lot of time to agonize.

"Goodbye, Yǐn Cáng."

And with that, he turned and began his slow and steady shuffle back to the undead dorms.
