Life Hunter BATTLE ARENA General Information The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.
Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.
If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...
If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.
Mechanics - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.
- you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)
Round 1
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 1 Trainee Roll: 1d10 Life Trainee Roll: 1d12 Hunter Roll: 1d12 Life Hunter Roll: 1d20

Round 4
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 10 Trainee Roll: 1d4 Life Trainee Roll: 1d6 Hunter Roll: 1d6 Life Hunter Roll: 1d8
Bonus Mechanics Life Hunters train for precise hand eye coordination and exceptional judgement, thus they have a slightly lower chance of knocking down the tower.

Melvin hated Jenga. Well, he hated THIS Jenga, but this was the Life course, and he wanted to be able to walk away feeling accomplished that he won. It was competition, but it was also feeling successful and confident with one aspect of his place. Sparring with the other hunters wasn't in his favor, but this, this put him on level ground. He wanted to be able to get something right, and if it meant playing the weirdest game of Jenga ever to exist, he would do just that.
Still, he didn't want to waste lots of time riling himself up from a dart, and had asked for someone to come with to be able to wake him up and try again. Waiting on the other side of the portal, he checked his phone from the last message he sent.

Rep had been putting off the unpleasantness that he'd heard Jenga entailed for as long as humanly possible. But there was only so long you could deny the usefulness of bandage clearance. So when Melvin had asked if he would tag along for the dreaded ordeal, he figured why not. Maybe the life techs would go a bit easier on him if he was with one of their own nerds. Maybe they'd rather haze Melvin than him.
Tracey was a voice of reassurance as always.
While Melvin was checking his phone Rep slunk up behind him and prodded him fairly hard in the shoulder.
"Yo."

Melvin was checking his phone and unlike some hunters who were more self-aware and could detect anyone coming at them from miles away, Melvin was not that sort of person. The stab to his shoulder made him jump with a yelp, before he whipped around, grabbing his shoulder a moment before he raised his arm up to punch whatever it was that just stabbed him.
Then he saw it was Rep, and breathed out. "Damnit, Rep. I thought you were a dart or something." He rubbed his shoulder, leaning down to pick up his phone off the ground, and checked it for damage.
An explosion overhead echoed in the room they were in, making Melvin tense. Great. Now he was all nerves before even starting this game. His phone wasn't damaged and so he pocked it, before moving to the steps. "You pretty good at this game?" He asked, assuming that someone here longer than him must have played the courses several times over.

Rep looked utterly delighted at the reaction he got from Melvin, he hadn't managed to sneak up on anyone in ages, most people and as such the life hunter got a huge grin as if he'd done something great rather than drop his phone like a pansy. "Naw , no a dart. Just the guy who is going to completely own you at this game."
He sauntered over to the steps only to give Melvin a blank look.
"Actually man, I've never played."

Melvin walked down the steps, still rubbing his shoulder as he looked over as the piranha that were jumping about in the water. This place would have been relaxing if he thought that they were just happy koi or catfish, but he already knew and could only feel nervous by seeing them. The explosions muffled overhead didn't help, but that was the point of all of this.
Walking up the walk to the center platform, he looked over at Rep. "Really? I thought you'd have already done this a few times. Wow, you're going to have a fun time." He wondered if he should scare Rep away just yet, and decided it was best to let him get darted first. Then again, if Melvin was hurt first, he would have to tell Rep to wake him up.
Best tell him.
Walking up to take his seat, he sat down. "Alright. Have you played Jenga at least?"

Rep had heard stories about jenga but all he had to go by was that they were indeed probably stories. Being darted unconscious sounded a bit risky, too risky probably for the life labs. "Well me and most of Life don't really get along. Nerds and all that s**t, I must just intimidate them." He didn't know what Dwight's problem was, he didn't seem intimidated so much as completely obsessed with Rep's every downfall.
The room was distracting and Rep constantly found himself looking up at the overhead explosions only to look back down at the pretty cool fish in the tank below.
So they ******** did. Well that just about ruined their appeal, he didn't want to fall into that tank any time soon. "Erm. Its that stacky blocky game?" he hazarded. He'd never played but he was sure he'd at least seen it on television in the past, though the rules eluded him. "You stack them up and I knock them down?"

The blocks in question were already on the table, however no one bothered to stack them up for the next person. Really, that was just lazy. Still, it was good to demonstrate to Rep what the game really was. "Life techs give everyone a hard time even when you are in their division." A bunch of assholes was what they were, but there were still a few decent ones around. Robert seemed pretty cool. Lex too.
"Jenga is a block game, but the point is to not knock them over." He started to lay a layer of four blocks, then four in the other direction. "You take turns, pulling one block out from the tower, and as there are less and less blocks and all the easy ones are taken, the game gets harder. The aim is to get the other person to knock over the blocks without touching them or blowing on the tower or something underhanded like that. Basically, just keep getting blocks without making the whole thing fall." He made the tower. "I guess they don't have this game over in Scotland." He hazard to guess.
With the tower done, he gestured behind them. "This place decided that Jenga is too simple. All the little holes around the wall are openings for darts. Now when you make the thing fall, someone shoots a dart at you and you pass out. I needed someone to wake me up if that happens so that I can just continue with this game." There was another explosion overhead, causing Melvin to look up and then at Rep. "Oh, and there is that too."

"Aye the techs are always shits. Some of the hunters are pretty ******** mean too though. Dwight for one. Leon's a bit of a p***k when the mood takes him. Robert's an okay guy. But that's about it." Well. Melvin was okay too, but he didn't want the guy knowing he thought that.
He listened with a look of mild concentration to the rules of the game. "That sounds pretty ******** hard." He had a pretty steady hand but when it came to delicate manoeuvres like that, he doubted he was going to be much use. He was going to get thrashed at this by goldilocks. Joy of joys.
"Oh great it gets better then, knocked out if we ******** up. Ah well. Game on?"

"My track record is pretty bad. Passed out about each time when I did this with Wilson, but it is no less nerve-racking than the Sun course. I guess all the other ones are just as bad." He breathed deep, looking up as if waiting for the next explosion, and once he heard one, he went over and started to pull out the easy blocks from the centers and sides, setting it down.

Somehow Rep managed to avoid knocking the tower down first try and set down his pieces carefully out of the way. The explosions overhead did nothing for his nerves, expecting a particularly loud one to surprise him and make him move his hand at any moment.
"Shadow run's not nerve wracking, its amazing. Any excuse to send those little shadowling bastards running. Deathsweeper's less fun. Dying repeatedly in a ******** golem isn't fun. Feels like dying every ******** time." He couldn't help but shiver at the memory. "Not one I'm ever doing again if I can avoid it."

"I never even heard of Deathsweeper. The name alone." He didn't want to think about how bad it could be, but he didn't know how well it would work in a golem either. The one time he was in a golem, he could barely walk due to being on hooves and very short.
"Shadow Run was just a lot of shooting, but at least there was so many of them I couldn't miss." But then he was swarmed right before he got to the door. It still bothered him that he had gotten that close only to get overtaken.
"Don't think I'd ever want to know how dying feels." He said, reaching out for a block. It was a thought, this constant reminder from everyone he talked to, that death was always looming. That alone made him more nervous than Jenga.
He needed another topic. "I guess you'd liked Shadow Run with that big axe of yours. Pretty good at it if you can send two people to the infirmary without batting an eye."Status Round: 1Pieces Taken: 1 - Part 2 Total Points: 2

"Even when I lose it's always fun. Its the fighting that counts, not the winning or losing." The fact he enjoyed pain possibly marginally more than inflicting it just fed right into his statement. "But aye, hard to miss in shadow run. I like it cause it makes me have to deal with ******** range. Hard to swing a big axe in a little corridor."
The subject change made him raise a brow. "Oh aye. Well, one of them had it ******** coming. I don't stand for little ******** rats sniffing around what's mine. "
He clenched his hand into a fist before trying to make himself relax enough to pull out a block. He failed, and in a show of fantastic uselessness, knocked the entire thing down.
"Fu-"
He keeled over out cold.

Melvin watched as Rep was quickly upset over the mention of one particular individual, and then reached out much too quickly at the tower. It fell with a clatter, and Melvin watched the man slump over and fall over the table.
"I was wondering who'd be first." He said to himself, before standing up and walking to Rep's side.
His hand reached for his shoulder, but paused before touching it. Something had bugged Melvin for a while since he heard it on twitter. Was Rep still bathing in the ocean?
The man didn't actually smell bad or in any way like low tide. Looking around, he removed a glove and took a small lock of Rep's hair. It was soft, clean, and didn't feel greasy. It certainly wasn't damaged by sea salt, and he brought his hand up to breath in. Hmm. Not Head n' Shoulders....not Old Spice......What was it?
He snapped his fingers. "Mane and Tail." Melvin had peculiar gifts.
Putting his glove back on, he shook Rep's shoulder. "Wake up, sunshine." He told him, and when he seemed to stir, he went over to his chair and stacked up the tower. When it was assembled, he picked a piece out.

Rep was entirely unaware of the fact Melvin had touched his hair, otherwise he might well have flipped out entirely, anyone in his personal space was considered not cool at all. As it was though, he just made a sleepy little murmur that didn't sound entirely innocent before as he was shook groaning and rolling over.
He blinked slowly as the world dawned again before sitting bolt upright, glaring warily at Melvin. He was back over by the tower though, so there was no reason to complain at him.
he grunted irritably, rubbing his forehead.
"This time I'm gonna take a couple pieces right. Speed this up a bit." And he did exactly as he said, through some miracle this time not knocking everything over.
