The Problem with Weddings

Aella attempts to contact her family on Rocam, which takes two weeks to set up the comm call and costs quite a bundle.

Her First Brother (third born) answers, and she's happy to see him; hopeful that means not having to confront her parents.

- Need a name for her each of her siblings -

Brother: S'kak, no! I like breathing, you tell them yourself. Congrats, by the way *zooms off to grab their pater*

Aella sends several emails, spaced over different comm bouys.
I. Am. Exchanging. My. Futtari. Wedding. Knife. With. A. Quarian. Love. Aella.

Only later realizes that if they're somehow sent out of order, it could lead to some serious miscommunications. Oh well.

( Later, family shows up. Dad says they'd already booked room on a shuttle by the time they got to "Futtari". Mom is secretly proud, but doesn't say anything outright.)
......................

After sending her series of emails, she pings Kar so they can meet up and go shopping for wedding knives.

Kar was going through his own messages, opening an email from the Board concerning youths on their Pilgrimage, reminding him that his 5 years abroad are about to expire and if he doesn't return soon he'll be counted as 'Lost' or an exile...

Kar sighs and deletes the email before answering Aella's ping: "Hey Faceplate! We doing this thing, or what? C'mon, need to go buy those knives."

Kar: "Yes dear..." *smirk* Totally worth it...
...............
Get a lot of flak while out shopping for blades
"What, are you you gonna paint your marks on his faceplate?"
"How are you going to cut palms with him? Won't that kill him?"
"Looks like it'll be a boring wedding night..."
"What, real Turian men too rough for you?"

Aella ends up punching someone.
................................................

Punch results in a formal reprimand at work, as well as forms to fill out and a lot of jeering from her co-workers. Including posters from Fornax on her locker of male Quarians only wearing partial suits...
Aella takes it in stride, snickering. Partial suits are no fun, after all. Can't bend them over things, and that pesky metal was covering all the best parts...

Her locker mates laugh, clasp her wrist and pat her on the back, secretly glad she's still Aella. The teasing is their way of coming to terms with such an odd concept, after all...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The beginning of the end
Ita meus animae, a'condonia talus
(Tal'mae - Thus my life and spirit, I give to you.)

Aella and Kar try to figure out how to incorporate both Turian and Quarian elements to the wedding.

Hard to do when for Quarians it's normally aboard a ship, lead by the Captain of the vessel and... well... Kar now technically doesn't have a ship and...
Doesn't want to tell Aella what the cost has been.

And Aella gave up her place in her clan to take on the paint of the Citadel, so her Head of Clan technically couldn't go to the Captain of his ship and write up a contract for them....

What a mess.

Aella also shows Kar datapads of the different marriage contracts. The commidor, which only lasts two years and is basically a 'practice' marriage, the Manus, with their flexible terms of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and finally 40 year escape clauses, but doesn't show him the Tal'mae... which you can never break. No matter what. A marriage without divorce.

She just can't bring herself to show him that, don't want to ... scare him? Push him into something he doesn't want?

(And perhaps Kar has done research of his own...)

But the manus, with their clause about not being able to reproduce together being a good reason for breaking a contract...

Or who would take who's paint, which clan would accommodate what... such a headache.
...................................................................
On the big day

Does Kar accept the hand slash and mingle blood, as a Turian would? (and how many doctors are on hand here >.>; )
What does he add to his name? Vas Tullius? Vas Citadel? Does Aella change paint to a solid blue face mask to match his face plate? Does Kar paint his face? Do they just completely say futtar tradition and do something else?

maybe Quarian vows, since that's really all they seemed to do. Couldn't link suits or anything.

DETAILS MAN
...............................
After, Drusus clasps Kar's wrist in Turian fashion, showing his own form of acceptance.
He turns to Aella and grins at her, saying "Now, when I told you there was a Quarian running around the Presidium and to 'have fun', I never meant for you to have THAT much fun.

Shut up Cato, or I'll kick you.

Cato laughs, clapping Kar on the back "i don't think your new groom here would appreciate you flirting with some other male..."

Futtari shut up, Drusus! *kicks him anyway*

Cato doesn't even wince, laughing so hard and long he nearly doubles over.
.......
One of her police buddies cuts in
"S'kak, Tullius. Does this make you the head of your own clan now?"
"Futtar, no. Please no. Spirits, don't even say such horrible things."
"I think it does. Kemorya clan, congrats!"
"S'kak!!"
.....................
(Families can exist in the same clan, and clans can be a part of the same colony. Example: she could be of the Kemorya family, under the Tullius clan, part of Rocam colony. Co-worker is suggesting starting her own clan, so they could become Tullius family, Kemorya clan, Citadel colony. But Kar might want the Kemorya's ship approval for that. Otherwise, they'd just be Kemorya family, Tullius clan, Citadel colony.)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Body lies over the Station, my body lies in a hospital bed...
Oh baby

Have surrogates due to turian estrus difficulty
hence they can only have turian or qurian kiddies, no hybrids

Kar and Cae sitting at a bar while Aella is with a surrogate at
the hospital - Kar and Cae hoping for a safe birth

Aella walks in, fuming. off-duty buddy calls out to her
"hey, shouldn't you be in labor?" meaning labor and delivery
ward of the hospital

Aella - "Yea, apparently they didn't like me shouting, "c'mon, where's
your spine! Push it out, already!" and expecting "Yes, drill
centurion!" in reply"

*huffs and takes a seat at the bar, demanding a stiff drink*

Baby troubles

Aella has to deal with Tayce being all round and pregnant, knowing that because she married Kar she'll never be able to conceive naturally. It embitters her, and she picks a fight with Kar over the stress of it.

Kar finally gets to the bottom of her worries and feelings, and suggests maybe next time she carry one (or two) of the kidlets to term.

... But might recant that idea once Aella explains what would be required.

This becomes a sticking point.

Resolution 1: Kar allows Aella to carry naturally... and Aella regrets it. Worse, they have to deal with what Aella had to do. Potential for conflict and growth, potential point of interest in differentiating the offspring.

Resolution 2: Kar denies the idea, and Aella submits, resentfully. She ends up taking her aggression out on Tayce and Cae, which might result in damaging their friendship, hopefully repairable.

Resolution possible 2 1/2: Resentful, Aella starts to take it out on Tayce, and then is reprimanded by Cae, which might result in a fight. Aella is enlightened on how difficult the pregnancy actually is on Tayce, and Cae dares her to be 'on call' for a week. Just a week. For every bout of morning sickness, to witness how uncomfortable it is, etc etc...
And although Tayce finds it totally worth it, Aella has a change of heart about the whole ordeal. She gets kids, and doesn't have to carry them. Isn't stuck at desk work either. Hm...
