Name: Phoebe Lied Color: Yellow ██████████ #FFFF00 Age: 13 Nationality: American (German/Norwegian Ancestry) Home/Financial Status: Middle Class School: Rosaline Academy
Personality: Phoebe is a thrill seeking, fight picking, life loving, tomboy who loves a challenge above anything else. Whether it is a mental challenge such as advanced mathematics and physics or a physical challenge such as a glorious battle with a strong foe, Phoebe strives to continue rising up the tiers for even greater challenges. Not all challenges are easily surpassed for Phoebe though and despite a desire to conquer all the blocks in her path, she is unable to get past many challenges because a deep rooted issue of trust keeping Phoebe at an emotional distance from others. Now her emotions have become distant and now while on the outside Phoebe is a bright ray of sunshine that lights up each day with a smile the actuality is that the smile is just a mask that that she wears. Built up over the years, feelings are now deceptively covered with a thick layer of denial and a beautiful stonework called lies.
It's no surprise that if Phoebe is not about to frown at anyone because they stepped on her diorama then she certainly isn't going to complain to them about it. In fact, Phoebe isn't the type to express concerns about things in general, and instead she simply uses physical means to deal with it. A joking punch here, a punch in the face there. It can be confusing to be suddenly be punched without explanation by someone who then claims there is nothing wrong and is smiling like nothing happened but that's simply their challenge to conquer not hers.
Phoebe has a very hands on approach to everything she does. She likes to do things herself and hates having to make room for other people when she can do it herself. Often situations call for her to work with others and she just outright refuses to do so if she can clearly do it herself. Even if she can't do it herself, Phoebe would quite frankly rather suffer along on her own rather than rely on someone else. Sometimes she doesn't have a choice in the matter and her lack of trust can really get in the way. She becomes quite defensive, and instead of simply giving people a chance to prove themselves she tries to prove her own by working even harder. If completely necessary, even as much as she hates giving even a miniscule task to someone, if she must share the work load then that's all they're getting. If they prove inapt at that and she sees them doing it wrong then she will push them out of the way and do it herself. Not even wrong, but simply wrong by her own standards. She has a specific way of doing things and she likes to have it done that way. If you are not doing it that way, don't ******** do it.
Learning is a huge influence in Phoebe's life, and most of it revolves around it. She's an A+ student and she has no intention of it ever not being that way. She works hard and she plays hard, in that exact order. She won't agree with anyone trying to change it. With school being the majority of her learning time now, Phoebe has some hobbies that she enjoys. Music is a definitely the most emotional part of her life. She usually has the latest iPod and she carries it and her headphones around with her everywhere. It isn't unusual to catch a glimpse of her rocking out to a song or screaming loudly to the lyrics. She can't keep a tune but she doesn't mind it. She doesn't have any plans to follow a career in music so her poor talent, or lack thereof, doesn't stop her from enjoying it. A more quiet hobby choice is the internet. She's not an internet junkie but she certainly enjoys surfing the web. Her primary interest on the internet lies on Wikipedia, enjoying not only reading Wikipedia pages but also adding her growing knowledge to them when possible. It's not all work and no play, who can deny a good lolcat picture? Or two... hundred. Schrödinger's cat or not, there's some hilarious subtitles out there on cat pictures that brings Phoebe some delight that human companions rarely seem to. Other than that, Phoebe enjoys a wide variety of hobbies but she doesn't give many of them enough attention to actually be too successful at. Some of her favourite hobbies include: star gazing, bird watching, sudoku, origami, puzzles, and swimming. Most of them are things she can do alone, things she can enjoy without other people or without the help of other people.
Simply put, Phoebe likes to have her face in a book and her fist in someone's face. It isn't the best life motto, but whatever works.

History: The story began thirteen years ago when a summer love blossomed between a young girl with a bright future named Maribelle and an older, very charming man named Axel. Their love was swift like a coursing river with all the force of a great typhoon and that was exactly what her parents worried about. They didn't approve of Axel and his debonair personality but when they tried to talk to Maribelle about their concern and the speed of their relationship she refused to listen. She was too stubborn and madly in love, and convinced they just wanted to ruin her life. She abruptly ran off with Axel and shortly after they eloped.
Everything went splendidly as summer love melded into newlywed fever and soon news that they would be having their first child arrived. Axel was delighted to start a family and Maribelle was simply just happy that Axel was happy, even if it was beginning to feel like it was so soon. They had barely had time to themselves! However, she loved Axel so passionately that she'd do anything for him, and it wasn't until after Phoebe was born that she started to debate her choices. The anxiety that Maribelle started to feel early in the marriage came to full light when Phoebe was born and she started to suffer from depression. She didn't feel like she was fit to raise a child and over the years it slowly ate away at her as a depression haunting her life. Most days she couldn't even get out of bed, and some days she couldn't even look at Phoebe. Without a mother in sight, Axel's mother began to make the commute over. Unable to do anything, and fearing to do so, Maribelle began to dump all of her motherly responsibilities onto her mother-in-law Emma. Axel was clueless and the more he asked the more didn't understand anything. She left him in the dark, slowly allowing it to eat away at their marriage.
Axel was a good man and he honored his vows, never ceasing in his attempt to fix their problems. He attempted counseling, a dire attempt to find out what was wrong. It was too late though, the counseling didn't help. She had given up hope and finally one day she simply went out and simply never came back. Phoebe was too young to understand anything greater than the fact her mother left and never came back but there was more to it than that. With just a letter from his wife, Axel hoped and waited for his wife to come back but she never did. It wasn't until he when was served with divorce papers about three months later and went to court that he seen her again. The divorce went through despite Axel's disapproval, and devastated and crushed under the defeat he took Phoebe and moved back to Teufel Town to live with his mother upon her suggestion.
He knew it would work out for the best this way. Axel didn't have all the time necessary to take care of a growing child on his own and his mother had already been commuting out to their old place to help out. She didn't mind taking the trip because she loved both her son and her granddaughter greatly but it took a toll on all of them. Maribelle's departure had left the house unfamiliar to Axel and just looking at the walls reminded Emma unpleasantly of Maribelle. She didn't understand at all how Maribelle couldn't have all her worries lifted by simply looking at Phoebe's bright smile. Perhaps if only she had bothered to look.
Silently, an anxiety brewed under the surface of the traditional woman. She worried that the no-good woman would come back and attempt to take Phoebe away from them. She began insisting that her son file for sole custody, and although he was very adamant about not going that far, about three months after that Emma Lied finally convinced her son into filing for sole custody of Phoebe. Emma joined her son in court that day but Maribelle didn't even show up. Sole custody was granted but Emma would never forgive Maribelle for not even trying to fight for her daughter. She stopped trying to simply fill in at that point and took over. Emma did gave 110% trying to fill the void that Maribelle had left. With historic properties and museums laid all around them, she constantly took her out. There she discovered many things and found many questions. There was always an abundance of who, what, where, why, when and how with Phoebe. She thrived on knowledge and with all the history around her she never seemed to run out of questions. Any question that could be asked, was asked but it didn't seem to matter how many questions she asked she'd always come back to the same question in the end: her mother. A constant void in her life, she grew up trying to fill it with all the answers to every other question.
Thousands of questions found answers and slowly days turned into months and months turned into years. She was growing up, but growing up without a mother can be hard. She made friends wherever she could, trying to fill the void that had been left there. Things went splendidly for awhile, and Phoebe quickly became best friends with two girls: Katie and Lauren. They were popular girls and it was a definitely a strange pair for Phoebe to make friends with because their interests all clashed but the two girls made Phoebe feel wanted and that covered any flaw they had. They always included her in their plans and often asked her to do things for them, including helping them with their homework. Phoebe didn't mind helping them because they were her friends and if they were in trouble and she could help them then she should do it but as time passed it increasingly became apparent that her help wasn't simply helping them with their homework but was her doing all the work for them.
She didn't want to believe it at first but as her disappointment began to drown she sought reason. It was unusual at the time for Phoebe to be so bold, normally a rather quiet and reserved girl who went with the flow, and one afternoon she finally confronted them to say something. They were surprised, certainly not expecting her to ever confront them about it. Phoebe expected them to deny it and to simply laugh it off but they didn't. They didn't seem to have any problem with it, seen nothing wrong with it. Outraged and filled with distraught, Phoebe threatened to tell the teacher that all this time they had been writing their name on her work. They never thought she would, even teasingly telling Phoebe to do it.
The next day was the end of any friendship Phoebe had with them and many other people. With the end of the year coming up, both Katie and Lauren were forced to do summer school or repeat the grade. Neither took it lightly, both furious that their summer plans had been ruined. No one seen it as their fault and instead it was all Phoebe's fault. The trait that been such a blessing for the two was now fire power and rather immediately they began to bully Phoebe because of her intelligence. They certainly weren't afraid of using low blows and soon on top of being bullied for her intelligence she was also bullied because of the absence of her mother.
She became distraught, not simply because of the ridicule but also because she had lost her friends. Her friends didn't need her anymore, they didn't want her anymore. She had done everything she could to keep them happy but in the end it wasn't good enough. It didn't matter how hard she tried. It wasn't fair, Phoebe knew that. Phoebe simply stopped trying as the void she had filled slowly began to widen again and this time Phoebe didn't bother trying to fill it. For a couple of months both her father and her grandmother began to worry about her behaviour but she kept assuring them everything was all right.
With the summer approaching, her grandmother decided to enroll her in a day camp at the city's observatory to try and liven her spirits. Phoebe protested, not wanting to be around other children but her grandmother's will was iron and her word was final. Phoebe had to go and that was that. The children there shared her interests and often tried to befriend her but Phoebe couldn't bring herself to open up to anyone, her trust betrayed and her ideals of friendship lost. Simply, she didn't want to need anyone like that again and she didn't want it to be taken away again. She had never felt so small in her life, so meaningless but then it was the day they got to use the telescope. One look caught her attention, another look allowed the very sky to enter her heart. It caught her attention and slowly as the summer camp began to pass by, she kept returning to the telescope and every day she did she seemed to liven up a bit. She was discovering that the world was so big and she was becoming troubled over something that was so small in comparison.
She was above them, she was bright and yellow like the sun. She didn't need them to shine brightly and soon a new hope filled Phoebe. Mathematics and physics began to lighten up her world that was so grey before and the knowledge she soaked up stopped being simply a way to fill a void. Her world began to make sense. The laws of physics defined our world and our universe, and it began to define Phoebe as well. It didn't make her life any easier in terms of the bullying that seemed to await her but questions and answers lead her down a path where it didn't seem to matter anymore. A path where she didn't need to simply sit there and take it. Her grandmother refused to enroll her into something as unruly as martial arts but with basic knowledge from the books she'd read and plenty of volunteers to try and put the "nerd" in her place, Phoebe began getting into fights with other children in the schoolyard and even the classroom when the teacher stepped out. She'd take on anyone, anytime. Anyone who stood in her way was practice, just another challenge to conquer.
It wasn't long after her conquest that she began to feel bored in her environment. It was conveniently around that time that Phoebe's grandmother began to feel that she was walking down the wrong path. She brought the idea up to Phoebe about applying to Rosaline Academy and at first the idea turned her off but then she got a look at what the school had to offer. It was an education facility that was leaps and bounds better than Teufel Town Elementary and Teufel Town Middle School combined. It was probably even better Teufel Town High School on top of it all. It could be the new challenge in her life to surpass, another trick up her sleeve. She played her part until eventually she allowed herself to "be convinced" into applying to Rosaline Academy. She was accepted into the school, although she had no doubts, but she hadn't ever thought about what was coming next. When it arrived, Phoebe didn't know what she was going to do. The uniform made her cringe and after finally tossing it around her bedroom floor a few times and finding a pair of shorts to wear underneath it the two of them came to an understanding: you don't mess with me and I will only drop food on you.
Rosaline Academy wasn't exactly the school Phoebe had hoped it was when she first started. She found that so many of the students were there simply because they had money, and that disappointed her. She thought that things would be different but in the end people never changed. She could hear the girls gossiping like wild hyenas but this time Phoebe didn't even try to make friends. She vowed that she would spend all her time at school studying, making her way to the top. She didn't know what she wanted to be yet but the sky was her limit. The universe was far, and wide and there was nothing closing a door in front of her.
Her grandmother's hopes seemed in sight when Phoebe's behaviour at school became almost normal. She didn't get into any fights and her focus seeming to rest entirely on her studies. The truth wasn't that she wasn't getting into fights but she simply didn't want to s**t where she eats. She didn't want anything to get in the way of her scholarship and the plans she made for her future so kept she any fights off the school grounds. She wasn't sure where the future would lead but she was going to learn as much as she could before she got there.
Today Rosaline Academy is where Phoebe remains, and at the top is where she belongs. The challenge in sight, Phoebe will not be satisfied until she's won.
Family:
Maribelle Lied (Mother, 31): Maribelle regretted many of the choices she had made throughout her life but none as much her marriage to Axel Lied and the birth of their child Phoebe Lied. She had been naïve to think that a summer love and prompt marriage would be the dream life she always wanted. She had been quick to throw away her life, ambitions and dreams in exchange for a reality she hadn't quite thought through. She had been too young to have a child, barely an adult herself. She lingered on the life she could still have and slowly her love spoiled and she became resentful of the youth that had been 'stolen' from her. Time passed and although she was loved deeply by Axel, one day when Phoebe was a small child she left the house to get groceries and never came back. Other than a single letter addressed to Axel from the day she disappeared, she has not been seen or heard from since.
Axel Lied (Father, 35): Axel works as a full-time bartender, part-time bouncer at a small club over in the Lynn District and as a result of his job he rarely sees his daughter. He loves her more than anything, perhaps even a bit too much. Everything he does is so he can provide her with the best in life even if it means he usually leaves for work shortly after she gets home from school (or would) and comes back from work either while she is still asleep or shortly after she leaves for school. Late nights tire him out so it is rare if he makes it past the couch, passing out shortly after getting home where he proceeds to sleep all day so that he can work all night again to provide properly for his one and only daughter. It is rare but on a good day he will either make breakfast for Phoebe before school or wake up and get ready in time to manage to sit down for dinner with her for a moment before having to rush off to work.
Emma Lied (Father's Mother, 63): Emma is a rather traditional woman who has taken care of her granddaughter in place of her runaway mother and working father. Although she is quite a stern and serious woman, she loves her granddaughter greatly. She has great expectations of the child and she doesn't let Phoebe forget it. She applied Phoebe to Rosaline Academy with hopes that seclusion and immersion in an all girl's school would assist Phoebe in breaking away from her place in society and finally act more like a lady and less like a little hoodlum with a one way ticket to a Juvenile Detention Facility.

Language: Mathematics
Desires: Phoebe wants nothing to stand in her way, and for anything that exists that could stand in her way to disappear so she can take her place at the top of the world.
Emblem: ×
Weapon: Brass Knuckles
Type of Magic: A mixture of mathematics and physics bound by her wish, Phoebe's magic would be based around the theory of black holes.
Offensively, a magic strike from her would cause the matter around the point of impact to be swallowed. If an object at the receiving end of the blow is a a living creature then simply the energy of the matter is absorbed from the point of impact of the strike. For example: If YELLOW hits PM1 or WITCH1 in the arm, that arm would become out of commission until they have had the chance to heal themselves. If YELLOW hits GARBAGECAN1 then the garbage can would cease to exist. If YELLOW hits CARWHEEL1 then only the wheel would disappear. Size restrictions apply.
Defensively, a large black sphere is summoned and surrounds the intended target, protecting them for a short duration. During this time the sphere eats any magic attacks within its event horizon. This leaves the protected or caged target defenseless in terms of using magic but also safe from any incoming magic attacks. Basically in a 1-1 battle, the playing field is magically leveled for that duration.
tl;dr: basically I am thinking a nullification/void sort of magic.
