It was long past time she left Tendaji. Esen followed the river upstream, trying not to feel guilty. She'd spent too much time in the open, hanging about with Tendaji and his family. The forest was calling her back, and she hastened to answer that call.
Well, hastened by her own standards... she was headed for the forest, but there was no rush to get there beyond her own longing. There was plenty of time to stop and dip her paws in the river. She looked about curiously, wondering if there were any other creatures nearby.

Calder was by no means the most exciting of leopards. By traditional standards he was 'boring' and he could only surmise that this was down to his lack of interest in any form of sports. He had taken after his mother in that respect, placing minimal effort in achieving supreme physical fitness. In his view, hunting kept him in shape and as such, he didn't need to go gallivanting off to whatever place provided the greatest obstacle course or challenge. Suffice to say that in the grand scheme of things, this leopard's interests lay solely in observation and the occasional bout of exploration.
With that in mind it should have come at no surprise that the leopard in question was the silent type and as Esen came into his line of vision, he held his piece. Admittedly, his eyes to follow her as she moved in as quick a fashion as he often did, but he made no attempts to disturb her with wild declarations or even a vocal greetings. Some may have called this rude, but given that she may not want to be disturbed, Calder argued that this was actually the pride approach to social encounters.
Fortunately he hadn't made himself difficult to spot, as when he wasn't in the forest, his blue coat often made him stick out like a sore thumb against the often dry and bland back drops of the savannah.

Esen watched the dark blue male approach, not making any effort to get up. Laying down left her at a strong disadvantage if it came to a fight, but she was not worried. She was big enough and strong enough to defend herself - and besides, he didn't look threatening.
With a final swirl of her paw in the river, she sat up and turned to face the male. "Hello," she called, softer than she would have if he had greeted her first. Perhaps he was shy? No matter, Esen was more than happy to break the ice.

He wasn't shy by any means, with a mother like his it was nearly impossible to be! If necessary he could certainly be as loud, boisterous and demanding as some of his fellow siblings but deep down, he preferred a more relaxed base. Suffice to say that such behaviour required a considerable amount of energy and he had better uses for it - let the more excitable and adrenaline-junky born creatures use their energy in such a way, he'd reserve his bursts for hunting and escaping.
...Yes, it was true, Calder preferred to dodge a fight rather than to cause himself untoward injury, after all...who would tend to his wounds in a place like this if they were severe? No one, that was who. He'd wandered the rogue lands long enough to appreciate that it was empty!
"Morning," Calder echoed her greeting without missing a beat, his tone smooth and strong. If she'd assumed he was shy, the clarity of his voice should have put her mind at ease to a certain extent. "My apologies, I did not wish to disturb you while you were..." he paused, glanced briefly at her paws and then lifted a brow. For a brief second he was overcome by memories of his sisters.
"Doing your nails?" he mused after this moment had passed.
