As Aedh left her cave she cringed as she always did, her eyes slow to adjust to the change. If she had her way she would sleep in the open, where she could wake slowly and softly with the rising sun, but it was too risky alone. If she had a family she might get her way. Her head pounded already, she had no idea what time it was or how long she had been asleep.
It wasn't a good way to live, days blending with each other. She needed something more, some drive. She supposed she could always find a willing male to give her a litter of cubs, but that in itself seemed tedious. She wasn't the mothering sort.
With all this weighing on her mind she stretched out to take in the heat. It was something she had always enjoyed, it felt powerful. The cold and the rain always made her stiff, but in the heat she was smooth and graceful. As graceful as a heavyset scarred up lioness could be.

Nyota had been hunting around the tall grasses since day break. it was her own goal to keep herself healthy and strong, so that meant hunting for herself. she sniffed the ground closely and keeping her senses alert for any other hunters, if she found one, she would keep out of the way.
she stretched in the warm sunlight, it was a beautiful day, and she could tel prey was going to be plentiful. once she found the right pride, she was sure she would make for a great huntress. she wasn't sure about how she was with kids, maybe she would have a litter someday, but not any day soon.
a mouse ran past her and she chased it down, pouncing at the last minute and killing it swiftly. it was a small meal, but would keep her on her feet for when she found something else.

Something was off already. Aedh sniffed the air, her fur raising up as she decided that someone else was nearby. That wasn't a good sign, she didn't feel up for a fight immediately upon waking. But it was just one, so if she was lucky her appearance might scare them off.
Narrowing her eyes to pinpoints she pressed herself low to the ground. Her red coat didn't allow for much in the way of camouflage, but she hoped she wouldn't actually need it.
And there it was. She watched as the lioness landed on the mouse, chuckling softly at the effort put in for such a tiny reward. She must be hungry.

She munched the last of the mouse and wandered on. her fur stood on edge bit as she felt someone nearby. she sniffed around and smelt another lion. she looked around and saw a red shape moving a distance away from her, coming closer. did they want to fight? Nyota wasnt very good at fighting, maybe she could just tell them she wanted no business with them if they wanted no business with her, and move along her merry way. or maybe she was hungry and wanted a hunting companion?
she looked in her direction again and she was nearing closer and closer. she wasnt afraid. she might have seen Nyota pounce the mouse, it was small and not that satisfying, but it would keep her going for a while. maybe she thought she could help Nyota? she had no idea, and decided to wait for her to near so she could make some small talk before moving along the known tall grass hunting 'path' Nyota had made for herself.

She had been spotted, that much was obvious. But where was the response? That puzzled Aedh. She wasn't necessarily aggressive, but she would have at least growled if a stranger were sneaking up on her.
"I mean no harm," she declared, rising up slightly from the grass. It still concealed much of her bulk, she outsized the average lion by quite bit but she wasn't so massive she couldn't be stealthy if needed. And she still wanted to be prepared to run if need be. Not that she often ran from confrontation. "This is my territory," she added in the best neutral tone she could manage, "You won't find much in the way of large game here, they left weeks ago."

"im not looking for large prey, can hardly take down one by myself, though im not weak" she stated. "im sorry, i didnt know anyone had this place claimed, i had been hunting here and around here for...a while." she was talking in a gentle tone, to make it so she didnt mean to hurt her. she was much tougher then her it seemed, and could easily injure Nyota.
she was a little worried. she didn't know what to expect from her. she could run fast though, and could hit in places that would hurt if this was to turn into a fight. Nyota decided to stop being worried, she had nothing to worry about really, unless she said the wrong thing, then it could all turn sour. "i mean no harm either." making her one sound neutral so that she could still be neutral with this lioness. she was a bright red color. like a fire. that was something they had in common. fire-like colors. Maybe she was firekin? Nyota hadn't know much about firekin...she really hadn't been told about them, though she didnt want to ask her because she thought it might bring back sad memories of some sort if she was fire-kin of sorts.

"Hunt all the small critters you wish," Aedh said with a shrug as she lifted herself from the grass and shook the dirt loose from her coat, "They're hardly a bite for me. I prefer the big hunt." She flashed a toothy grin, the scars around her face wrinkling up in an ugly pattern.
This was no pridal scout, that much she was sure of, and that knowledge was comforting. She saw no threat from lone hungry lionesses, but a pride would be a different matter entirely. That much strength together, it gave her chills. It was something she longed to be a part of, but her parents had been rogues and the life had passed to her to be the same. It was a rough life, but it made her strong. "Barely is still a victory, I've been kicked in the head more times than I know how to count," she admitted, "The fiery ones always taste the sweetest."

Nyota didn't know much about victory, seeing as she was never part of a pride, or she never took part in fight. she had only taken down a large piece of prey once, though it was nice. "i have never been part of a pride" she shrugged. "still looking for the right one, i guess" it was nice being a lone wanderer. meeting people along the way. learning about different prides, it was her life., and she enjoyed it.
"im afraid i havent introduced myself. my name is Nyota." she thought she may as well introduce herself, seeing as they were to talk a bit longer still.
she saw a plump, overly plump, mouse struggle to get pass her. she pounced quickly. it was done in the blink of an eye, she lied down on the grass and ate it. it was much better then the one before. making her much more full, she rolled over on her back and basked her belly in the warm sun. she then rolled around onto her belly and stretched basking her back in the warm sun also. she then exposed her belly a bit while munching on her plump mouse.

Aedh cocked an eye as the other flashed her her belly. Bold, or stupid, she wasn't yet sure which but she liked the pace of it. Relaxing a bit she allowed her shoulders to slump down, her gaze softening on this odd little female. "Those who are so inclined call me Aedh, and I've never been with a pride either, though I'd like to do so at some point," she said softly, thinking the idea over.
In a pride she might even find a mate, though she wasn't sure she'd be keen on the love aspect of it all. A strong male to give her strong children to raise up hardened, as unattached to her as possible. That would be nice, that would be a true family strong as stone. But not out here, not where they could be so easily ripped from her paws before they were of any real use.
"They don't tend to be the most welcoming folk," she sighed, "Especially the fighting lot, they raise their hackles and snarl at outsiders. I'd love to fight a real trained lioness, or hell even a lion. Someone with knowledge."

"i have been thinking of finding a mate, not too sure if im ready yet, but hey, that could be figured out when i find a pride."
she didn't want to bear a litter in the rouge lands. it was too dangerous, and she couldn't always look after them, she had to be with others, so she didnt have to leave them alone to feed herself. she was charming, and could find a mate, but it needed to be someone she trusted. "i have no intentions of ever bearing children in the rouge lands, much too dangerous, they could slip from my gasp easily."
Finding a pride was her first priority. then mating would probably come last. she didnt know what came in the middle.

"Exactly, and what good are untrained cubs at defending themselves? You'd be putting yourself at risk," Aedh growled, thinking about what a nuisance it would be. "But there's little other option if you're alone out here, it's hard enough dodging prides no less other rogues. The lands get more and more crowded each day it seems." This encounter was a perfect example of that. In the past she might not have seen another lion for days, but now it seemed more frequent. It was becoming a problem. Not all were as harmless as this Nyota was. And she could only take so many pointless fights. "I've been thinking, I might have to find a partner. Or a pride I suppose, if one will have me." She was physically strong, that was sure, but she wasn't anything exceptional and she certainly wasn't a beauty. She'd have to earn a place.

" we can find prides, im sure. and your right, it has been getting crowded, im meeting someone almost everyday!" she wasnt complaining, but it was getting harder to get more food, and that was important for survival, besides water.
even thinking of water made Nyota thirsty.
"know any water holes or anything around here? i have never found any."
she was hoping she knew some, but if not, she could come with Nyota, or they could part ways, though Nyota enjoyed talking. she didnt want to show it though, it didnt feel right, as this lioness was a bit rouge around the edges, so to speak.

"There's a few to the north," she answered, gesturing with a paw, "Near the foot of the mountains, but you may have to fight for it." She hadn't been there in a while herself, there were smaller creeks around but those too were becoming dangerous and she felt this lioness would be safer on the move. Things changed much to quickly to feel comfortable in one place if you weren't in for a fight. "I really do hope you find what you're looking for. We aren't that different I don't think, beneath my scars and your lovely coat." She laughed for a moment, then narrowed her eyes once again, "But then again, we are still competing out here. It's a tenuous balance."

"then lets just say i will stay off your bad side" she chuckled and thought about fighting for water. she never had to that before, in fact she never did much fighting in general, she was charming, which made her friendly, which made her friends, which wasnt a bad thing, but it still was good to make a few enemies.
"and dont think that your not a pretty lion too, because, you are. i mean, your scars tell a story, and that red coat, is just amazing, though it may not help in ways of camo." she tried to sound nice and wasn't sure if she would see that or take offense to it, she saw some lions who had taken to compliments the opposite way.
"i know a water hole near my den, would you like to come?' she offered, hoping she would join her for a few moments, if not, it was fine, Nyota could leave whenever Aedh asked, seeing s this was her territory. "your welcome to go there wherever you want too, if your not in the mood to fight" she shrugged, why not let her get away with water without risking her life?

"I've no need for camo when I'm always in the mood to fight," Aedh said with smirk, bracing herself against the ground before she relaxed with a laugh, "But I find myself enjoying your company. You're no spirited warrior, I can see that, I wouldn't force you into a fight. It is without honor." She stepped lightly toward the other, gesturing into the distance, "To your den then, I've grown tired of this area. Perhaps we'll find what we're looking for along the way. There's always more found with two sets of eyes looking than one."
