It wasn't often she went out on her own without a hunting party. That was really the only reason she had to leave the pridelands. Today though, she had decided to break from the norm. Venturing out of the border, she did her best to keep to hidden. She didn't want anyone seeing her. She had to be stealthy. Pirates had a lot of enemies, and though she wasn't crew, she was still a trophy. The graceful female moved slowly, keeping her steps quiet as she slipped from behind tree to tree. She was thankful for the shadows, as they did well hiding her dark coat. Bonni was a smart lioness. She was also rather small in comparison to most in the pride, and staying hidden came easily to her. She had no mission, not like she usually did. She was simply exploring, and her boredom had gotten the best of her.

 Kurys was, as usual, on his own and a little bit bored. Living in solitude was really not as glamorous or as interesting as people probably thought, he mused as he sorted his pretty new shells for the nth time.
He had found the shells on the beach earlier that day and transported them with some difficulty to more solid ground so that he could better examine them. His favorite was one that was dull like petrified zebra dung on the one side and shiny in many different colors on the other side, though the others were very bright and pretty.
As yet he had no plans for the shells, but sorting them gave him something to do. Kind of. He'd already sorted them by size, shape, color, and taste, and now he was having to come up with more creative classifications and drawing a blank.

She was minding her own business, as much as was possible for the young Corsair. But she found her eyes drawn to a very bright sparkle in the savannah grass. She smiled as she watched the blue lion with the snowy mane focusing on.. something. She couldn't tell what it was he was looking at, but something that grabbed someones attentions the way those were they had to be good! At least, that was her reasoning for it. She stalked out of the shadows, keeping low so that she was hiding in the long grass. If he looked, he might have been able to see her. But she had a feeling he was too focused. They were smaller than she could see, and she knew she was going to have to admit defeat. An idea sparked in her head, and she grinned. She'd just seduce him into letting her get close enough. That was the best plan she had at the moment. "Ahoy!" She called, though she was rather close so it looked as if she had appeared from nowhere.

Surprise company!
Sukurys knew that wasn't always a good thing, but the speaker sounded feminine. He was long-limbed and somewhat lanky, but he was still strong enough to overpower a lioness in single combat, though having been brought up to respect females, he'd rather not.
"Ahoy?" he replied, echoing the unfamiliar greeting. If it was a greeting. It could just be a random sound to capture his attention. He was going to treat it like a greeting.
The lioness's sudden appearance took him by surprise, but he managed not to jump. Too much. He pretended that his eyes were open really wide because he was studying her. Yes. Of course.
She was pretty, with dark fur and light eyes, which was a combination he'd always found particularly appealing. He hoped she'd stay and chat for a while.

The male seemed questioning of her lingo, and she didn't blame him. Not many out of the Pirates understood what a Pirate's words meant most times. But there were the occasional ones who did. Her father liked those types. The closer she got, the more her eyes sought after what it was he had been messing with. It didn't take long for her to see the shells. She smiled, mostly because she was a huge fan of shells. They were lovely, and she found herself drawn to them. She tore her eyes away to look over the male before sitting. He was handsome, if that was what she was looking for.. Which it wasn't. So she just needed to get him to step away, so she could rush in for the grab. "What's yer name, Stranger?" She asked, arching an eyebrow.

"I'm Sukurys," he answered. "And yourself?"
He assumed the lioness's unusual pronunciation was due to her upbringing and wondered what sort of upbringing that might have been. And then he began to wonder what he sounded like to her. And then he told himself to stop it because otherwise he would space out in the middle of their conversation and insult the pretty lioness.
"Do you live around here?" he asked, mostly just to keep the conversation going. While he spoke he tried surreptitiously to sweep his shells into a pile and make it look like he was not so pathetically bored that he'd been sitting here for hours arranging and rearranging the things.

She had never seen him before. Which wasn't uncommon, since she never really ran into outsiders much. She noted him to be the type that could be seduced. That would get him to move.. Hopefully. "I be Bonni'Saavi." She said quickly. Then looked at him with an arched eyebrow. "You can call me Bonni." Then she smiled. She was a pretty agreeable sort, so she wasn't really having to act by holding a conversation or being friendly. But she did have other motives. That motive was taking those shells and running as fast as she could home. He'd never find her once she hit the trees. "I dooo." She said, her voice almost sing-song like at the words. "It's a pleasure to meet you Sukurys. I was beginning to think I'd be alone for awhile." Oh yeah. She'd get him with that one.

"Bonni it is, then," he said agreeably. "I'm very glad to meet you, too."
He settled into a more comfortable position that concealed his shells a little better, although that had not been his objective in doing so. It was simply an unforeseen side effect. Really, Kurys didn't much care if Bonni saw the shells or not, since he didn't realize she intended to steal them.
"You've lived here a long time, then," he guessed. "Do you ever go swimming in the sea? I haven't been brave enough to try it yet, but I'd like to."

He was nice. She found herself happy for that. Because that meant it would be easier to take those pretty little shells that he had been playing with. That was her focus, those shells. She wanted them, and it was rare that Bonni didn't get what she wanted. Then he shifted, and blocked her view, and she cursed under her breath. How was she supposed to get them if he kept getting in her way? She walked around him, as if she was circling him to get a better look at him. Though really it was to put herself closer to the enticing treasure. "I be livin' here all my life." She said proudly. That was true, she loved her home. She loved her life. Ultimately, she was quite lucky to lead the life she did. "I have been in the sea many, many times. Can't live without the sea." She said, and then walked closer to him..Ever so closer.. Until her paws were placed over the shells strategically.

"What?" he asked. He'd heard her utter something, but he wasn't sure if it had been actual words, or just noises, or if maybe she'd had to cough. "I didn't catch that."
"It sounds like a good way to grow up. But you probably could live without the sea if you had to. I mean, you can't even drink the water, right? It's too salty. Just makes you thirstier."
He coughed politely, startled by how close she had suddenly gotten, and took a few steps backward to preserve his personal space. He had forgotten all about the shells for the moment.
"Um. Excuse me."

When he stepped back, she knew she had won. With a grin she shrugged.
"I guess it wasn't important.. But I won't live without the ocean. I'd sooner throw myself over a cliff." She responded. The ocean was a friend to her, and though she knew she -could- live without it. The question was... Would she? Probably not.
"Oh males. Excuses excuses. I be leavin' you to whatever it is ye be doin." She stood, her paw curling around the shells as she used her other paw to point to something.
"Oh my! What on earth be that?" Her face having a feigned surprised expression. She was hoping he would look, so she could throw the shells in her jaws for safe keeping as she bolted back towards the pride.. But she couldn't do it with him staring at her.

"Have to look a while to find one of those around here," Sukurys observed. It all looked pretty much flat and sea level to him. But this wasn't his territory. Maybe the jungle foliage hid some cliffs. He shrugged mentally.
It took him a moment to figure out that when he had begged her pardon, saying excuse me, she had thought he'd said excuse, as in something one offered in order to be excused. It occurred to him that she might not be very well-educated. It also occurred to him that this would be a poor time to mention it, given how close the two of them were still standing.
"What on earth be - is - what?" he said, whipping his head around to catch a glimpse of whatever it was Bonni had seen. He squinted for maybe half a second before his peripheral vision told him Bonni was moving, and moving fast.
"Hey!" he exclaimed. "Where're you going?"
And then he looked down and saw that his shells were gone. Well, s**t. He'd been had. That was kind of embarrassing. At least no one else had seen. He hoped. It wasn't worth hunting her down over some shells, so perhaps he had best just chalk it up as a loss and move on.

As soon as his head had turned to look at the nothing she was pointing at, she threw the shells (oh so gingerly. Shells were sharp!) in her mouth and took off. She was quick, and she was hoping he didn't follow her. She'd probably have to fight him if he came after her. Because she wasn't about to relinquish the shells back to him.. Then that entire conversation had been for nothing.
Once she was back into the woods, she knew she was safe. She noticed he hadn't followed her, and she noted about how proud her father would be when she told him of her antics. She was starting to think she would make a fine crew member.. Though she also began wondering... Maybe the male had just been stupid and she had gotten away easy.
Whatever the matter, she began to tote her treasures to her den, to fancy herself. Yes.. This was the life after all.
