The South Pole is a distant location and a group of Shinigami have been sent out to begin an investigative operation on the location. Given how difficult it is to transport their forces here under normal circumstances a small team has been sent out to arrive on their own terms through whatever method they feel best suited to reaching their goal on time.

In regards to what the team is investigating there have been strange blips and hollow energies emanating from the furthest South point in the world. Though not exactly a point of contention for the Shinigami forces some believe a serious threat exists. Others believe that it is simply the radars going wrong. All in all out of simple caution they have sent you, a team of trained operatives, to find if there is any truth to these wisps of hollow reiatsu.

Linuen Frost
Fourth Division, Seireitei, Soul Society
South Pole [1: 258]

Linuen Frost, a medic of the Fourth Division, was the first one to arrive at the destination assigned to them. It was slightly windy, which was undeniably bone-chilling cold, and the medic was clad in the thickest garb he could muster prior to his departure. He had a noticeably jet-black hair streaked with blue highlight - a fairly popular appearance among the Fourth Division for it was unlike no other. Despite being tall, he was considerably of "fragile" build, and the moment he reached the destination, he was huffing for his dear life; the pack he brought was of medium weight since he never thought the mission would become long-term and yet this made him tired.

"I should work on my endurance or something... ah, but that's such a hassle." He said quietly and then looked around the barren, extreme land. He wondered about the mission given to them and its nature: investigation. They were supposed to know the cause of the Hollow activity in such a cruel place, considering that the place did not avail any human prey for such distances; in short, it was highly unlikely of Hollow presence here and if it did, something was off (even the weakest in problem-solving would have known something was up). Yet, in the end, they were tasked to know if the reports were accurate. Linuen was a skeptic but he was always the average thinker in these things.

Slowly holding on to his white-sheathed wakizashi, he waited for the members of his team to arrive, vigilant and cautious.

Satto skid to a stop a few meter behind Linuen, he had arrived only a short time after his comrade. Satto's deep brown eyes surveyed the perimeter first making sure to cover his surroundings first before addressing his teammate. Satto stood a rather tall 6'3" he had a thin tone frame and was a humanoid Doberman Pinscher. "Tsuriba Satto, 2nd squad reporting in." He spoke softly and eloquently. Satto wasn't one to chit chat though he found it necessary to introduce himself to his teammates so that they could properly work together.

Satto was dressed in his usual attire, wearing the classic shinigami robe with his custom captains robe on top. Though the captains robe held no rank Satto seemed to cling to it his desire for rank and order not fading like the necessity for captains had. Satto was also wearing boots over his feet and the sleeves from his robes came down over his hands concealing both his dog like hands and his wakisashi.

Satto stood with his left arm in the sleeve of his right awaiting their other teammate so that they could begin the mission.

Linuen Frost
Fourth Division, Seireitei, Soul Society
South Pole [2: 280]

Linuen felt the arrival of the newest member moments before his arrival. Instinctively, he turned around with a cautious demeanor until seeing the Shinigami uniform before him although the traditional captain's haori did shock him for a moment. His composure suddenly stiffened but suddenly remembered the recent breakdown of the Shinigami class system and relaxed, remember the teachings some time before of the captain-unseated member relationship. Sometimes, he wondered what would it feel to be accompanied by a strong captain in a mission.

The next thing that Linuen amazed was the physical attributes of the member, who introduced himself as Tsuriba Satto, a member of the Second Division and apparently a humanoid Doberman Pinscher. The medic made a very courteous bow and then said, "My name is Linuen Frost and I am a member of the Fourth Division. I am the group medic for this assignment." With that, the medic made a smile despite feeling a bit uneasy in gazing upon his teammate's judging eyes. Not only that, Tsuriba stood like six foot two or three and Linuen felt he towered by the figure.

Although his teammate didn't look like the type who talked so often, Linuen felt obligated to talk about something because he was feeling a slight awkwardness in silence, especially if one is accompanied by another. "Satto-san, what are your thoughts regarding the mission? Don't you think it's extremely strange about this assignment? I mean, can you imagine that it might be bigger than we can handle, if there's anything we're to discover?" He asked softly, trying to ready himself on being ignored or else shouted at for being slightly annoying with so many questions at once.

Satto's left ear twitched when Linuen began to speak. Satto hadn't finished surveying the premise so his eyes did not waver when he was addressed. After completing his scan of the area Satto turned to Linuen and bowed the exact same depth as Linuen had showing a sign of equal respect to his comrade. "Opinions on the mission differ, some believe it is a waste of time to send us out here and others think that more should have been sent. I can't speculate since I don't know what is out there. Though I don't think our superiors would have intentionally understaffed us if it was something serious" Satto spoke in a phlegmatic tone not being one for small talk. Though with Linuen being the team medic Satto knew it was important to keep him in high spirits so he had done his best to console his comrade.

"Once our other teammate arrives we will move out, I suppose an I formation would be best. Do you have any particular offensive skills or have you been sent mostly for support?" Satto spoke not in an attempt to make small talk but to accurately judge what he had to work with. He needed to know his comrades abilities and specialties so that he could adequately cover their inefficiencies and allow them to excel in the place he himself may be deficient. His eyes seemed a bit softer now but they still conveyed a tone of determination and conviction.

Konpaku was pissed with himself, he was running late for an assignment. Although no one could really blame him. The south pole, really? Who in all the hell's butterflies posted them in the south pole? He couldn't be mad, he did sign up for this mission. If it meant killing hollows he would find a way to the bottom of the sea.

Seeing two figures in the distance, and deducing that no one in their right mind came to the south pole for no reason Konpaku figured these other two were his squad for the mission. Running up to the two, the man was shivering even with the anti-cold clothing provided by the soul society. "K...Kon....Konpaku Te...Tet...Te...Tetsuga." He would have given his squad but with the cold it was hard enough to state his name. Raising two fingers he singled to the others his squad to give them some inclination of his skill set, although not many members of squad 2 were as versed in the use of kido as himself.

Linuen Frost
Fourth Division, Seireitei, Soul Society
South Pole [3: 375]

Linuen nodded in response to Satto's opinions regarding the mission assignment. Of course, even back at HQ, he had been hearing that the nature of the mission was not-so-highly looked upon; many were actually skeptic about the medic's appointment. Yet, much as he liked to question the importance of the mission, they were actually just about to begin so he had no right to demand such things. "You do have a point, Satto-san. I guess it won't be much of a danger otherwise the Gotei would have sent more people. My bet is that even HQ doesn't know what to do with this phenomenon. What am I saying...! I'm rambling unnecessary opinions." Linuen said and then sighed heavily for his loquaciousness. "I apologize for speaking so much." He added with a silly smile.

The medic did not know why he was acting so strange like this, especially with someone he barely knew. It was so out-of-character, so to say. However, despite the unemotional demeanor of Satto, Linuen found something charming and nice about him - like he was some kind of immovable object of just and bias; Linuen thought Satto was trustworthy (perhaps the image of the canine gave him the thought).

Before Linuen could respond to the question of Satto, their late and last teammate, Konpaku Tetsuga, arrived. This newly arrive member was of lean build and features a tan complexion that Linuen felt he had seen before but could not place when, where, and whose was it. Snapping of his introspection, he bowed at Konpaku and gave him a warm smile so unlike the cold weather of the South Pole. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Tetsuga-san." Linuen greeted. After seeing the man's sign, the medic deduced he was of the Second Division, much like Satto. "So, both of you are from the Second Division, I see." He commented.

Turning to Satto, he proceeded to answer his question earlier. "I'm sorry, Satto-san, but I don't have much talent regarding offensive capabilities. I have only strength to defend myself when needed but I do get resourceful about my skill-set. I am most handicapped in melee combat due to my slow speed and the range of my swordplay; I handle a wakizashi as my Zanpakutō."

As the group found themselves together their radios, each one owning one individually, began to crackle and gradually voices could be heard coming from them. They were all saying the same things making it a sort of garble of words however it was audible if a little confusing.
"Yeah. Did you hear. This hollow sneak-" Another voice interrupted the first, also male. "The radio is on you know." With a fumble the first voice brought itself closer and more easily heard. "Hello this is control. Do you copy? Over."

The Shinigami would find their radios equipped with speaking devices and a pair of headphones if they wished to keep out unwanted noise. These were specially made for these types of missions where they could not expect to receive additional support. In addition to this their activities were being recorded, though not displayed live, by a camera fixed into the cold weather clothing they had been given. Everything that happened would be recorded.

Assuming the voice had been satisfied by the response of the Shinigami it gave its' next command. "Your orders are currently to travel North. Hollow activity has been detected there. This is a recon mission. Do not engage hollows unless you've no other option. I repeat. Do. Not. Engage. Over." Did this suggest that the main base knew more than they said? Possibly. Possibly not. The situation was wholly unusual and required a certain degree of caution. At the very least it meant that the group was not considered fully disposable. That should be a small peace.

Satto's head turned to the north as he heard the walkies and his earpiece speak to him. "Very well" he grumbled under his breathe. Satto didn't look back or acknowledge his other teammate Konpaku. He was a fellow 2nd squad member and Satto had already attained basic information on all of his squad mates making introductions useless. Satto began walking north figuring that the slowest member in their group should set pace and Satto would keep up with ease. Speed and agility were after his specialty.

"For the record, a wakisashi is not an excuse to be bad at swordplay." He spoke this with no tone in his voice which may have come off as intimidating now, but Linuen would find out that Satto himself wielded a wakisashi. He preferred a small sword it allowed his velocity, flexibility, and reflexes to sharpen much more than those with a long sword.

Satto's breathing was slow, as he continued to walk. He was intentionally keeping his heart rate low so that he could conserve energy for when they needed to engage or track whatever it was they were sent here to find. Satto could achieve this lower heart rate because of his fur which would keep him warmer than his squad mates, allowing him to wear less clothes which in turn didn't inhibit his movements like a big bulky ski jacket normally would.

His ears were constantly twitching showing those around him that every little sound was being perceived with ease making it so that Satto would be an excellent lookout, or guard dog in a way.

Linuen Frost
Fourth Division, Seireitei, Soul Society
South Pole [4: 224]

Linuen Frost, who was in the middle of talking a little bit too much, flinched when he heard his radio crackle with static, indicating an interconnection with them and the HQ. He almost yelped in shock with that but was able to contain himself and what's left of his professionalism in his assigned mission.

After hearing the orders of Control, the medic nodded in response although no one would most likely see him do that; it was some sort of habit developed long ago. "Yes, understood, Control." Linuen said softly and then tucked his sleeves to keep himself warm for the journey north. He wondered what would they find there and if what they will discover would be dangerous.

Satto's words to Linuen struck the medic intimidated. The latter found the seriousness in his fellow member's voice and that he knew from then on that knew that Satto was not someone to cross. The canine-hybrid member, unlike Konpaku, seemed solid as stone, more like the virtues of a canine to its master, and unmovable at that. If him and the medic were to cross paths with each other, Linuen immediately deduced who would lose. "I am sorry, Satto-san. I didn't mean..." And it was only then when Linuen saw that Satto had indeed wielded a wakizashi himself. The medic remained silent as they continued.

((Don't worry about any posting order. Since I split apart the posts with a DM post a true posting order need not exist.))

[I'm using this post as a timeskip]

Their walk continued for a while, small interjections from the radio came and went, making sure they kept their walk towards the source of power that was more northerly. It had only been an hour now but from that point onwards the radio had become deadly silent. When they put the radio to their ears not even a noise of static came from it. There was no icy wind blowing right through to the group's bones and a feeling that could only be described as stillness punctuated the air with its' absence of presence. It was as though the whole world had turned into one white blur at once.

A sharper man might've noticed something strange was happening here. That the harsh coldness of the far south had slowly but surely departed and was replaced with a feeling of being neither too hot or too cold but also not contented nor the feeling of discomfort. It was hard to sense mainly due to its' lack of anything. It neither had absence nor presence. However this lack of feeling would not last. Within seconds of it consuming their bodies they were harshly drawn back into reality.

Five huge rusted iron spikes jutted from the ground erupting from the snow at the same spot. They had not just appeared there but only now had their presence been uncovered when Linuen, Satto and Konpaku had been so close that another step would've ended up with them walking into them. On every spike black robed bodies of things that were once Shinigami were held. What was going on here? The temptation to call the base must've been building up and with that harsh awakening back into reality they would find their radios crackling with static again. A frenzied voice on the other end.

"Do you copy! Do you copy! Over." A new voice, different from the two beforehand shouted at them. "Where the ******** are they even." Another voice was shouting from behind. It was strange. How long had they been walking for? When they had begun the journey what seemed like no more than an hour ago the sun was rising. Now it was setting. As if the night couldn't get any worse something shuffled next to them. A body stuck on the great iron spikes had begun to move. Becoming agitated at their arrival. Further investigation would show that it was a still living Shinigami who had not been pierced through any of his vitals and was fortunately very high on the spikes. They could remove him if they were extremely careful. Possibly they might find out just what had been happening.

Satto eyes were shifting around rather quickly as the numbing stillness over took him. He was part canine after all and the animal in him couldn't stand something so lifeless. His cropped ears were rather frantically twitching as they attempted to perceive something besides themselves. Even a place as barren as this would have minute traces of life and Satto couldn't detect any of them. His disposition of course displayed none of his worry, he wouldn't allow his teammates enter a sort of panic because of something that Satto was able to pick up.

A small sigh of relief emanated from Satto as they appeared to reenter the real world. Though Satto's comrades wouldn't likely interpret this sigh as one of relief but instead one of frustration over not seeing anything yet. Satto's ears came to a halt as they reentered the world now being able to hear the wind and feel the setting sun's heat. Satto of course perceived this difference and glanced backwards from where they came attempting to discern if they had perhaps entered a temporal field of some type that may have accelerated time outside of it or slowed time inside of it.

Satto neither jumped nor twitched he simply looked down as the spikes jutted from the ground. His eyes quickly scanned each spike looking over the comrade that once was hoping he would find one that was alive. Both of his hands clenched at the sight though with them hidden in his sleeves no one but him would perceive it. An anger quickly boiled over his body, though he did not let his rising anger spill out keeping all of inside so that he wouldn't help either of his teammates loose their cool over this matter.

His ears twitched at the radio breaking silence. He interpreted their words before bringing his hand up to his left ear holding it down so he could speak into his Mike. "Satto Tsuribo reporting in over, what is your location and we will rendezvous over" He spoke calmly awaiting their response so he could move in and engage whatever it was did this.

"Linuen what do you need me to do?" He asked after perceiving their life comrade. Instead of yanking him off Satto knew utilizing their medic to help their injured teammate would be far more logical and practical. He stood ready to aid Linuen or respond when his fellow shinigami reporting back.

Konpaku was regretting his decision of signing up for this mission. It was to cold and it was distracting his naturally sharp instincts. Blindly following the squad mates infront of him he had barely noticed the surroundings changing. He had barely noticed the absence of the cold or life. The only thing that Konpaku had really picked up on was the silence of the radio. Even when not in use some constant rumbling should have been heard. He had used the radios enough to know that this wasn't normal.

Walking behind the group he stopped as the others did. Looking up from his feet as his radio sparked back to life. His eyes grew wide at what he saw. This was something out of a horror movie. Bringing him back to his childhood, seeing his parents impaled all over again. This was not the same though. These spikes were much bigger.

Konpaku almost ignored the radio chatter as Satto spoke to them. When he asked their medic for advice Konpaku did the only thing he knew how to. Drawing his sword he started scanning the area. Pulsing his reiatsu slightly to get a feel for the space they were in now. Or that was just his excuse. Stopping quickly as to not draw attention he suppressed his reiatsu. His hands were shaking on his hilt. The images of the night he was chased down by that shingami. Watching his parents being impaled, it all painted in his mind clearly. What ever did this would die, he wouldn't leave a single trace. "Do whatever it is you have to do quickly. My gut is telling me we wont have a lot of time." Konpaku spoke as he continued to scan the area. "By the crashing waves and the silence of the wind I command the deliverance of mine enemies unto me." Laying down a kido Konpaku prepared for a frontal assault. Most hollow were arrogant, if they tried a frontal charge he would meet them before they could get to the others. Rationalizing that he was the best choice to take on the battle while the other two got their friend down.

Linuen Frost
Fourth Division, Seireitei, Soul Society
South Pole [5: 360]

During the time when they entered the "void", the medic was strangely oblivious to the change. He disliked walking and he was in a less sense-ful state whenever walking too long. And when the void surrounded them, Linuen barely noticed. He might have sensed a thing or two but decided not to pay much attention, unlike everything Satto and Konpaku picked up along the way.

And as soon as it started, the scene unfolded before all of them and took a big chunk of shock at Linuen. The medic's eyes widened with shock and he clasped his hands at his mouth as soon as the spiked field unfolded before all of them. His mind was filled with horror as he saw the robed Shinigami on top of the spikes and he forced his mind to not to panic for he was vital to the group. Yet, faced with these kind of atrocities, the medic couldn't help but tremble with disgust and fear.

As soon as the medic heard the statics of his mic return again, he jumped in shock and heaved a long sigh of relief. "Li-Linuen F-Frost checking in, over." Linuen forced himself to say at his mic. "W-we ha-have..." He paused, closing his eyes, and then regained his stability. "Base, we have uncovered a strange sighting at the site. We found five iron-seeming spikes at the ground with bo-bodies impaled at them. We will try to investigate our findings, over."

With that, one of the figures suddenly moved, indicating signs of life. The medic gasped and that was the time when Satto called for his attention and Konpaku pulled for his sword. The medic reluctantly stepped forward towards the stirring figure and then turned to Satto. "Satto-san, please carefully remove the figure from the spikes and as fast as possible. Konpaku-san, please keep on the look-out as we tend to the wounded." And quickly drawing out his medic pack, Linuen knelt at the ground and gestured at the space before him, indicating for Satto to place the wounded Shinigami before him for immediate treatment. He tied his robes higher and then sighed heavily for the operation to come.

[This'll just be radio for the most part for now. Getting the man off the spikes is another post.]

As the responses from the team came sighs of pent up stress came through the speakers. Clearly something unusual was going on. Even in situations like this the teams in charge of the care of those in the field were not this emotional. However it may have been reassuring to know that someone on the other side even cared at all. The introduction may have shocked them however when they found out who was on the other side.

"This is Lieutenant Arino." This would come as a shock. Something had gone seriously wrong with this mission it seemed to suggest. Arino was the Lieutenant of the eighth squad. An older man with a voice like gravel. However something had got him agitated. "I'm ordering you to withdraw now. You must leave the bodies as you found them. Go back the way you came." An unusual order indeed. To what purpose could he want those bodies left as they are? Was there an internal conflict currently going on? A diplomatic mission? What could possibly be so important that it justified leaving a team mate to die.

However as they contemplated this they would notice that in the darkness something loomed on the horizon. A structure blocked what little light there was but gave off its' own. It seemed to be in the shape of a fort. Was this a new Hueco Mundo here in the ice? Certainly a change from the norm. Did the group dare go deeper into the rabbit hole and disobey orders and would their compassion and curiosity get the better of them?
