The platinum locks frame his face easily in soft waves, making his pale skin seem even more colorless.
His natural presence makes it very easy for him to slip into the background: it is that of a fluid, adaptive presence rather than an overwhelmingly obvious one. Even though he possesses a very calm and serene nature, the one person he would not be calm about is any incident involving his little sister. He has good reason to be highly overprotective of Hatsuyuki, for the girl paid very dearly for striking up the deal with the Water Master to release imprisoned clansmen. Following the clan's release, Hatsuyuki dealt with assassination attempts from even her own family -- he recalls with bitterness to this day the poisoning attempt -- and later on, pressures by the scattered remnants of the Clan Council to choose another to marry. Koyuki is one of the few who supports her decision to decline, because the clan is attempting to use Hatsuyuki's connection to the former clan heir in order to secure rule over the Fubuki Ichizoku for themselves.
He is also very protective of Hatsuyuki in refusing to tell her what he plans to do with his own life, to support her, which is the reason why he joined the Hunter's Division of the ANBU: to all the better access resources that would make searching for a missing person in the mainland possible. If his sister knew that Koyuki was doing everything for her, undoubtedly her noble spirit would grieve at robbing her brother of the other paths he probably would've desired to take. But for Koyuki, those other paths mean little, because with their parents being among the victims during the terrorization of the Water Master, she is the only family he has left.
▪ Caring "The next thing I would like to do, is to give him a crushing hug, and not let go. ...it frightens me to wonder what his eyes would be like today. Would it be for the better or worse if he had survived...? As a child, I did not think badly of my parents promising me to Lord Shinkou...only because the prince was bright, like a winter's star. I do not think I am ready yet to see those bright eyes become eyes filled with terrible pain..." By nature, Koyuki is very caring: even though he was promised from birth to become the bodyguard of the heir to the Fubuki Ichizoku, Koyuki holds no resentment towards his parents for his determined station in life. Even though he was not supposed to grow too close to the clan heir, he ended up becoming friends with Shinratsu anyways, and later came to view Shinratsu as a little brother. Even now, with the Lunarius sect gone, Koyuki expresses great concern for the undetermined fate of the clan heir, not because like the rest of the clan he sees opportunity, but because he truly cares about Shinratsu.
However, even though he is caring by nature, he is not very easily moved to open emotional bouts. This gives to others the impression that Koyuki is very cold, and only few knew otherwise, such as his little sister and the branch family members he shows kindness to. Koyuki is the type to prefer cryptic actions of kindness rather than to make an open emotional show. He would also do things for even the targets killed by the ANBU: because those targets do not get a proper burial, Koyuki tends to go off on his own after a mission, taking a lock of the deceased's hair, and giving that lock burial as per the traditional Fubuki manner.
▪ Pacifistic "I apologize. But I'm afraid I cannot do that for you... I understand he is important to you, but he killed too many people, whom were also equally important to others." As appropriate for his serene nature, Koyuki dislikes fighting, and would not proceed to combat unless there is obviously no choice. Before executing a target, he would always present the option to surrender in the case of "live or dead" capture orders. In the case of death orders, he would always make sure to deliver the least painful method, and also for any new relationships the target formed to not come into the way of harm or at least to minimal harm. Even though he has only been a part of the ANBU for barely a year, he had already seen many of the uglier aspects to the way of the shinobi.

TAB TABb a c k g r o u n d ↴ TAB↪ the secrets you don't need to know Early Years
Koyuki was born into the main branch of Fubuki Ichizoku, but as a child of the Janus sect, his immediate family was very close to the Lunarius sect -- the Chief of Fubuki and his immediate relations. As the story went, in the years of Lord Retsu's youth, a promise was made between the two best friends: to the eventual clan chief Fubuki Shinkou that Retsu's first child will be given to the service of the next clan leader.
When Koyuki was born, Retsu's wife, the Lady Hanabie was dismayed that her eldest son had already lost his freedom due to a singular promise but there was nothing she could do, for her husband was quite determined to carry out the terms. Fortunately, contrary to her worries, when her son first met the clan heir, the two got along almost immediately. The pair would grow up well together, and when Koyuki's little sister, Hatsuyuki, joined the equation, the three became as close as immediate siblings.
The Woman of the Water
Time passed by peacefully, and Koyuki was set to attend the Academy as expected of all children of the clan, with the clan prince and his little sister to follow the year after. But the peace was shattered quite soon: one day, a woman whom called herself the Water Master, a kunoichi possessing terrifying power, came to Kirigakure. As the village was still mourning the sudden passing of the Juusandaime Mizukage, Kirigakure quickly fell before her mighty force. Very soon, this woman extended her iron grip over every inch of the village.
At the time Koyuki did not know, but this was when Lord Shinkou first began plotting against the Water Master. However, Lord Shinkou's attempts to persuade the Kirigakurians to fight and reclaim Kiri were ineffective: cowardice ruled the villagers and they were unimpressed upon to act. Disgusted, and believing Kirigakure was no longer a place ideal for his clan, Lord Shinkou made plans to move out the Fubuki Ichizoku. Koyuki would realize this much, that coming home from the Academy each day, the usually calmly speaking Elders - the clan valued greatly diplomatic ability! - gradually participated more and more in angry debates.
Ruins
One day, he would come home from the Academy to an eerily empty compound. From the ruined state of the lobby, and the huddled children on the grand staircase, it was no far-fetched stretch of his imagination to wonder what had occurred here. He comforted his sister, before from the children, scrapped together a visual of what had happened. Apparently, Lord Shinkou had left with many of the clan earlier today. When people of the villager later came to the estate, a fight broke out, after the supporters of Mistress announced that the Chief of Fubuki and his supporters were dead. The Water Master had personally came and taken away the remaining fighters of Fubuki. Only the children, and the extremely elderly whom could no longer use their bloodlimit, were left in the estate.
As for the casualties... His parents were among them. Hatsuyuki had been forced to see the deaths of their parents with her own eyes: he had failed to protect his sister. From that moment on, childhood had ended for her, and she quickly grew into the role she plays today.
He is not very well-versed in what had happened afterwards, but the clansmen taken to prison were eventually released, albeit at severely reduced numbers. From the anger of the clan seniors at his sister, he gathered that she had taken the remaining Fubuki treasure, the sword "Sou'en" which has the ability to split seas, and had given the nodachi to the Water Master. Though she had offered the blade to Mistress with pretty words, she knew how to diplomatically play to the clan's favor, and had managed to obtain what she wanted. The feelings of the clansmen, however, were another matter and she would pay dearly at the hands of their own clan.
Aftermath
During the cataclysmic battle between the Earth and Water Master, and the subsequent ruinous aftermath, Koyuki was adamantly set against his sister's intent to house Kirigakurian villagers. Why should they? He argued. Those were traitors, whom had sided with that Water Woman, and now that the box-garden peace they wanted was gone, they had the gall to ask the one family they betrayed many times over again a favor? But Hatsuyuki would not change her mind, and had also convinced the clan seniors that this would be a diplomatic step to reestablish the relations with the main village -- especially after Lord Shinkou's actions would leave deeply scarring doubts. To Hatsuyuki, the scarring wounds of the clan would have to come second, reestablishing the clan came first.
Fortunately, the rebuilding was made shorter as the visiting Konohagakure embassy helped the villagers rebuild much of Kiri. He would be the first to breathe deeply a sigh of relief as the day came that the Kirigakurians could leave the Fubuki estate grounds.
Reestablishment
During the period of clan reestablishment that followed, Koyuki was one of the instrumental members at the vanguard, because now more than ever Fubuki had much to prove. Due to the chaos left by the aftermath of the Earth and Water Masters' battle, he did not have the honor of attending a formal Genin squad. Instead, he followed Kirigakure's freelance Genin program for the duration. He would not make it in time to attend the annual Chuunin Exams held that first year in Iwa, but he did attend the following year's Chuunin Exams at great risk to himself: it was held in the recently reestablished Kumogakure, but the problem was not the village of host, rather the slew of problems immediately south of Kumogakure borders.
It turned out the premise of the Chuunin Exams was to see which village's candidates could thin out most the Fire Damiyo's army whom had been bothering Kumo, as Kumo did not yet have the manpower available to deal with Konoha's issues yet. To soothe the outrage of the attending villages, all the survivors from that year were promoted to Chuunin, on the basis that it had been a terrific war-time accomplishment.
Koyuki opted to return to Kiri rather than to stay with his fellow villagers whom wanted to further participate in the chaos of the mainland: he was disinterested simply in the problems of the continent. It turns out his choice was also a good choice, because soon after, the angry Kiri Council ordered the Hunters to attend to all those whom lingered past permission on the mainlands. Though he did not personally agree with the village's decision on that account, he could see the reasons, as those new Chuunin had blatantly disobeyed orders to return for the desire to gain wartime glory.
Advancement
Koyuki would continue to attend missions with non static squads until finally filling the prerequisite to qualify for Jounin promotion. Due to his specialization in Ninjutsu by this point, he was promoted to Tokubetsu Jounin. He would attend the early summer long ANBU selection mission. His work after joining the Hunters of Kiri is obscure, mostly because the rules did not allow family or familiar faces to know, and he was most certainly not telling Hatsuyuki anyways.
