Belle had been sleeping curled up against the warmth of her gruff but loving Beast for quite a while now. She was conflicted at first worried about being his prisoner, but now it felt hard to even see herself in the role of prisoner. She remained in the cathedral willingly because Beast was sweet to her, he had kept her safe from harm, he brought her books and listened to her read. She…she had come to truly care for him, love him. Love? When had that happened? It was just there one day, something there that hadn't been before.
Today Belle had finally decided she ought to tell him, she could often see the desire in his eyes, the way he followed her…his eyes trailing after her with protective adoration. She found herself smiling when she heard the light swishing sound of his cape and she always curled up against him now enjoying the warmth of his fur even on warm evenings. Declaring her love for him might finally give him peace, and make him understand she didn't plan on trying to escape him.
"Beast?" She called softly and moved out from the makeshift library where she had been tucking the books he brought her. An attempt to get to the actual library wasn't possible for now, the raptors everywhere and alert ever since their last foray out.
Beast had been tending to his roses. He didn't spend as much time on them as he once had, but he couldn't find himself minding. He had someone now to keep him company, to take up his time. Even his guardian had stopped referring to her as a heathen becuase he knew just how much that upset him. He'd healed up well enough over the past few weeks, and it was nice to have Belle there helping him along. But now that he could move on his own, he almost regertted it, becuase she wasn't by his side all of the time. He harumphed at that idea and scowled to himself. She was not his mate, he had no right to think that way of her. His face softened a minute, as if he was almost entertaining the idea of having Belle as his mate. He stopped and sighed. That was nothing but fancy. How could someone so beautiful love someone like him?
"You must help her see past all of that." He heard his guardian tell him. Beast scowled and looked to the floor. He didn't know how. "You must be dashing, bring her some roses, tell her how beautiful she is. Find her some fine jewelry, and she'll be yours."
Fine Jewelry? Beast stopped for a moment and thought about that. Those were those shiny things he'd seen in the broken places of the dead city. He could bring her something beautiful he was sure of it! Beast smiled proud at that thought, he would convince Belle that he loved her, and the two of them were meant to be together! And then he could marry the two of them, and they would live a perfect life! He stopped when he heard Belle call his name, he moved out of the room he was in and looked down the hall towards her. "Yes Belle?"
She walked towards him and felt heat rising in her cheeks as she looked up at him, it was hard to ignore all the things she found handsome about him now that she was willing to admit her feelings to herself. He was so large, she had never thought of herself as a small doe, but she hadn't met other herla and Beast made her feel rather fragile in comparison. His horns and teeth made him look ferocious, but her fear of him had been replaced by gratitude for his protectiveness. His eyes…ah his eyes had become her favorite feature always giving her hints about his mood and making her smile.
"Oh there you are…I…I wanted to speak with you." She walked up to him and then froze a bit unsure where to start. She could hardly just blurt out something silly, but sadly she did.
"Do you think it's safe to go out yet?"
Beast looked at her in awe, how had he not realized just how beautiful she was? Just how elegant and lovely and divine. For a minute he was filled with doubt, she deserved someone better then he was... but then that doubt was replaced with fear at the idea of losing her. His ears perked when she told him she wanted to speak with him. "Yes?" He asked curiously, though his tail flicked at wanting to be able to rush out to prove his love for her. He smiled at her question and moved forward to nudge her gently. "That's what I'm going out to see about now. I'll be back before night fall with some more books for you and some more provisions as well... Is there anything you'd like me to look for?"
"You'll be leaving?" She looked at him startled and concern filled her, the raptors seemed numerous and dangerous. She did not want him going out alone…especially without knowing how she felt about him.
"I…" She hesitated and looked at him for a long moment before stepping back a bit. "I can't thank you enough for keeping me safe…all this time. I know…you…you want me to stay…forever…"
She wasn't sure where she was going with this, perhaps she was simply hoping that he had come to care for her feelings instead of viewing her as his prisoner. Would it matter how he viewed her? Would it change the love she had for him? Half of her was afraid she wouldn't care, she would love him no matter what lens he viewed her through, but a part of her longed to know he loved her for her more than her outward beauty.
"…but would you let me…go? Go back to my home that is…the library?" Almost as soon as the words escaped her lips she regretted saying them. How would he believe that she loved him, that her home, her future, everything was with him when she claimed to want to leave?
Beast smiled inwardly at the way she seemed so concerned for him, that must mean that she cares for him? Doesn't it? His ears swiveled forward and he was about to tell her everything just then when she talked about him wanting her to stay there forever, for a moment he thought she knew that he loved her. But then he quickly pushed that thought aside... She didn't sound happy about wanting to stay here forever. She sounded uncertain and nervous. Did he make her nervous?
The Beast looked at her long and hard when those final words left her mouth. She wanted to leave him. She wanted to go back. She wanted to leave him alone with no one but his roses and his guardian for company. How could he have been so foolish. How could he have not seen it?
He took a step back away from her, his nostrils flared as if suddenly he was being attacked but the rest of his body remained calm and cool. "Leave if you want." He told her gruffly, turning from her, needing to leave now himself. "I release you Belle. You are no longer my Prisoner." He turned then, dramatically he would admit and stormed off, not wanting to look at her, not wanting to show her the hurt in his eyes. How funny that originally, he'd wanted to capture her and force her to be his mate.
For a moment she stood frozen surprised by his words, the dismissal was gruff and for a moment she feared she had misjudged his affection. She caught the flash of pain in his eyes though and her legs moved into action as he walked away.
"Wait!" She dashed after him and almost slipped on the stone floor, her footing made her fall against him and she buried her nose into his thick dark fur.
"Come with me…I…I love you…" She found her footing but remained pressed against him. She knew he didn't want to leave his gorgeous cathedral, and maybe they could return, but she longed to see her home one more time, to say goodbye to it.
She slowly turned her head so she could face him worried about his response to the sudden declaration of her feelings.
Beast turned to her as she lost her footing and pressed into him, almost falling over himself. A quiet awe spread over his face as he looked down at her. Did she mean that? Did she love him? did she want to be with him? Truly? He looked away from her and towards the door. "Will you be here... When I get back Belle?" He asked her nervously, almost like a small fawn asking their parents if the sun will rise again the next morning. If she wanted to be with him, like he wanted to be with her, then he needed to do this the right way.
"I'd rather you didn't go alone like this…I'm worried those raptors will get you." She nuzzled his neck and then sighed. "But if you have to…don't worry I'll be here when you get back." She leaned in and gave his muzzle a soft lick, a tender kiss that promised she wasn't going to abandon him now.

Beast was amazed at how much something so little could affect him, he smiled at her and nuzzled her once more. He'd come back. He had to come back now. It was strange to him, to be able to feel this strongly about a person, he'd already felt something intense for her, but he hadn't felt like this... since.. since the incident. His shoulders suddenly grew heavy at that thought... If they were going to be mates, he was going to have to tell her. He sighed and gently, nervously licked her cheek back, smiling as he did so. "I'll come back to you belle." He promised her, moving once again to start towards the stairs and head out the bolted front door.
Belle had been trying to be patient but it was hard, she had confessed her love to Beast only to have him leave into a world fraught with danger. If something happened to him…she wouldn't even know it. She had lived most of her life alone, isolated in the depths of the Dead City from other herla and it was hard to imagine herself going back to that especially now that she had experienced love. Curled up on some cushions she let her hazel eyes trail over her book again for what seemed the hundredth time, usually she wasn't so distracted, books always absorbed her. Patience was apparently not one of her practiced virtues, she sighed and flipped her book closed with her nose. Standing she moved into Beasts room quietly, she felt a bit uncertain entering his domain, approaching his roses. She knew better than to touch them, but she did lay down and quietly inhale their delicate scent to feel close to him.
