The afternoon was in full swing and Mavi was having a day to herself well for the most part. She was out towards the outskirts of the pride looking for any herbs or plants that she could harvest and use in medicines. She liked having extra reserves of her herbs and plants she used just in case there was an emergency where she need them. There was always a chance of things going wrong and extra medicines being needed. She really just wanted to be prepared so she was out here looking for all the plants and herbs she could find.

She was on the side of the pride closest to the desert so the plants she needed were a bit far between each other but she liked checking out this side of the pride from time to time for her plants because there was always a chance she would find a new plant she had never found before that she could use to make something completely new. She had been out searching for plants since before the sun had reached its peak in the sky and she was even starting to enter into much more desert terrain than she had ever been in before. As she moved through the dried grass and felt the cracked dirt under her paws she spotted something ahead of her that she had only seen once or twice in her whole life.
Her mentor had called the creature a donkey and had told her that they were potential prey whenever one had the chance. Mavi was feeling opportunistic today. She crouched down into a hunting position and began to slink her way towards the donkey. She had to take her time because the donkey seemed to be extra alert of its surroundings. She wasn’t quite sure why but that really set off her receptors and got her wondering what the donkey could have to be on such an alert for. She couldn’t smell a predator in the air beyond herself of course but the wind was in her favor.

As Mavi slunk forward to reach the donkey the reason why the donkey was on such high alert appeared right in front of her as the donkey’s foal sprung out of its hiding place and ran. Mavi was up and after the foal just as quickly as the foal had taken off. The mother donkey called out in surprise and took off running at the sight of Mavi. Mavi was no longer interested in the mother and simply ignored her. Her sights were set on the foal and she was running at full speed. The foal was turning and trying to dodge Mavi but Mavi wasn’t going to be dodged.

Mavi was on the foal rather quickly. She swatted at the foals rear end managing to hook her claws into the foals flesh and pull the foal down. Mavi sunk her teeth into the foal’s neck to effectively suffocate the foal and kill it. Not far away the mother donkey had become brave and was braying at Mavi in anger for killing her baby but when Mavi turned her gaze on her she started trotting about nervously still refusing to leave even with Mavi glaring at her now.
Mavi wasn’t afraid of the mother at all just annoyed with all the noise she was making. The chase and the kill had been such a rush. It wasn’t often that Mavi actually hunted for herself so to get the chance while out looking for herbs and plants she would happily take it. She decided to go ahead and just eat the foal where she was. She had plenty of time before night fall so she took her time to savor the soft flesh of the donkey foal.
The mother donkey had stuck around till she was about half way through the foal before she gave up on getting any kind of revenge for her baby. She had come extremely close several times to Mavi and Mavi had been forced to snarl and snap at her to keep her at bay. She never could quite understand how a mother could be so attached to her baby that she would stay even after the baby was dead. Of course Mavi wasn’t a mother herself so she didn’t know anything about the bound a mother and baby had but she did hope to someday understand. She just wasn’t sure when that would be and she really wasn’t too interested in really searching to become a mother just yet. She was enjoying her life the way it was right now. Surprise excursions and all.
When Mavi finally finished the foal the afternoon was slowly moving into evening and Mavi knew it was time for her to be heading back in the direction of the dens. First though she had to go get the herbs she had managed to collect during her trip. She back tracked to the area where she had left them among a pile of rocks to try and keep any unwanted guests out of her plants.
She checked to see if all the plants were there and was pleased to see her pile had been undisturbed. Carefully she gathered the pile together and picked it up with her mouth. She would be walking back to her den just like this and really she had no problem with that. She had done it many many times before. As she walked back to her den Mavi went over her events from the day and was pretty pleased with it even though she had not got as many herbs as she had hoped she had managed to have an afternoon snack and that was always a plus no matter what she was doing. It was dark by the time she actually reached the den and headed inside. Once inside she carefully laid out her herbs she had found. She placed some in a pile that she planned to dry out before using and others in a dark place where she liked to store the ones she would be trying to keep moist. Once she was done arranging them she settled down and fell asleep ending a rather interesting day in the Makano-epesi pride.
