It was hard to find peace in the Tower. So many personalities, so many people. And he had to be the one to give them their marching orders. Steve Rogers was a man of action, true. But lately he found himself returning to an old hobby. It was a way to cope, to keep himself sane, after everything they'd been through. The Superhuman Registration Act, the Civil War, his own 'death', Norman Osborn's reign, and everything that came with it. Steve Rogers was a man of action, and he wouldn't have it any other way, but Steve Rogers was also an artist.
He moved his arm in steady, slow swipes, breathing easy as his work came together with the paintbrush as his tool. It's a lot like leading a team, he mused. You put your colors in the right place, they chase away the canvas, and soon enough you've made it to where you need to be. The high-altitude breeze was in stark contrast to the summer heat of the streets of New York as he sat on the roof of Avengers Tower.

Half a mile away from Avengers Tower a man in a skull mask was piecing together a high-powered sniper rifle atop one of New York's skyscrapers. He was whistling a tune that he'd heard on the radio earlier in the day. It was one of those tunes that annoy the hell out of people after just one listening. The tune actually annoyed the hell out of him, but it was stuck in his head and he couldn't do anything about it right now. When he finished putting the rifle together, he pulled out a small digital recorder. "September 18th, hot as hell today. Given a task by the goddess Hela the other day to bring her Captain America. Took the job to prove my skills and maybe get a shot and being the right hand man of a goddess. She says she pays well and that's always a good thing." He clicked the recorder off and set it down. Crossbones had taken to recording his thoughts and observations in case he ever decided to write his memoirs.
Maneuvering into position, Crossbones looked into the scope and sighted his target. Exactly where those nerds at AIM said he'd be. Crossbones took his time sighting his shot. He was in no hurry. It's not like he hadn't shot Captain America before. He had. And boy did that stir up a hornet's nest of trouble for him. He steadied his hand and breathed out. When his lungs were empty, he took the shot. It was straight and true. He kept watch through the scope to see if he connected with his target.

((We can't make it too easy for you. ))
Steve felt a sudden urgency, the way you feel when you know you're in danger. He felt it, but he couldn't perceive any threat. Suddenly, a gust of wind sent the bullet off its' path and sent it tearing through the canvas of his artist's easel. He ducked down, pulled his hood over his head, and picked up his shield. Think, Steve. That shot... High-caliber judging by the sound. The way it hit the easel, it has to be from the east side... He turned to face several buildings, holding his shield in a lax defensive position. It was intentional. He had to make the shooter think it was worth taking another shot.

Crossbones cursed out loud as he watched his shot miss it's target. He instantly realigned and sighted through the scope. He saw Rogers standing, almost relaxed, so he took a second shot. It sped towards Avengers Tower and Captain America. "

Steve blocked the rounds, taking note of how the hit the shield. His plan worked. Gotcha. He opened up a pouch on his belt, taking out a grappling hook and giving it a few good swings before tossing it, landing on a flag pole on the adjacent building. He put his shield on his back and quickly leapt from the top of Avengers Tower to the amazement of the people below. He swung through the air with tremendous momentum, letting go at the head of the swing, tumbling through the air and landing on a rooftop a few buildings away from Crossbones, though he was yet unaware of the identity of the shooter.
He darted forward, shield in hand, making leaps and bounds across gaps and rooftops.

Crossbones saw his second get deflected with the shield. "Who does he think he is? Spider-Man? Oh, s**t!" He cursed when he realized that Rogers was coming at him at a fast pace. He shoved the rifle down and pulled out his pistol and unloaded a clip at Rogers. Crossbones knew that Rogers could most likely see him now, but that didn't matter anymore. He holstered the empty pistol and pulled two large knives. He moved to the edge of the roof he was on and waited for Rogers to jump the gap between buildings. He planned to strike before Rogers could land and gain purchase on the roof.
