One particular gold dragon prowled through the grounds, eyes a pleasant green as she hunted for something to do. Or someone to talk with. She was bored and not in the mood to just sit around by herself while her rider exhausted herself taking on too many tasks at once.
"It's part of my job and you know it." Narisa informed the dragon from where she walked beside her, needing the small break from...everything else.
And it's part of mine to make sure you don't overdue it. Cepheith snarked. She never liked it when Hers was so exhausted. Or feeling like she wasn't doing enough. Mine, I think I see Pipith. We have not visited them in a while. Can we go and say hi? Not that Cepheith really waited for Narisa to make a decision on it. She changed their course and approached Pipith with a gleeful croon of greeting. Good day, Pipith! I hope you and yours don't mind if we join you?
Narisa shook her head, slapping the gold leg beside her as they walked towards the smaller bronze. "Hello Pipith. Is your rider available?" She asked politely, rolling her eyes at the smug warmth that floated about her head. Cepheith had successfully gotten her to do something else besides fret and worry. In theory.

Pipith was in a slightly better mood today than he had been, as the memory of an unsuccessful greenflight had finally begun to fade. Just because it was a better mood, though, didn't necessarily mean it was a good one: he was still put out about all the extra dragons Trine had acquired (except for the greens and that little gold), about having to have a bunkmate, and to a lesser degree, about having been hurt in the fighting. He'd be much happier about his wounds when they were scars, which were dashing, but until then, they were annoying. And itchy while they healed.
The bronze had laid out in the sun to dry after getting a good scrubbing, and was half-asleep when Cepheith crooned to him. He came to attention immediately, taking a moment to reposition himself so that he would look even better...and just happened to stretch out his left foreleg in such a way that the gold would be more likely to notice the missing digit on his forepaw. Good afternoon, Cepheith, he all but purred, his eyes slitted with pleasure and swirling blue. Ah, the wonders a friendly female could work on a grumpy male. Not at all! The company of you and Yours would be a pleasure.
Oh, right. His rider. Asleep on the other side of him. Wake up, Mine. Cepheith and Narisa are here! And fix your hair, it's terrible.
A matter of moments later, Set'al emerged from behind his dragon, smiling brightly. "Narisa, hi! Hey, Cepheith."
Did you just 'hey' a Queen? Pipith suppressed a sigh.
Yeah, I did. So what?

Narisa watched as the bronze readjusted himself, hiding a smile behind her hand. The gold took a moment to look appreciatively at her bronze counterpart, trilling happily. And how are you today, Pipith? Hopefully not too sore or hurting. A tinge of concern entered her honey-warm tones as she took in the still healing wounds. And missing digit on his forepaw. Hesitantly, Cepheith lowered her head to nose gently at his paw. My poor bronze.
A strong pair, aren't they? She added privately in amusement to her rider. Who just nodded her head in agreement, adding something along the lines of an 'obnoxious flirty gold'. Cepheith just huffed in indignation.
"Hello, Set'al! I hope you don't mind us dropping in." She smiled warmly, really hoping they hadn't disturbed the pair. "Cepheith and I were just... well," a faint hint of pink tinted her cheeks, "We needed a break."
And good company! Cepheith added cheerily for all to hear, clearly not at all bothered by Set'al's greeting.
"... and good company." Narisa agreed, shooting her dragon one of those looks that earned her a snort of amusement.

I am very well, and you? Pipith was inordinately pleased with himself when Cepheith did in fact notice his terrible (not really), disfiguring injury, and even went so far as to call him her poor bronze. It took a considerable effort not to puff up with pride, but he managed somehow. Still, he was clearly...soothed by her concern, and crooned at the contact. It's not so bad. A small price to pay, for the safety of our home.
Set'al fought the urge to roll his eyes. You just can't lay off it, can you?
Nope, he answered, not the least bit bothered by his rider's disapproval.
"Of course not," the bronzerider was quick to assure their company. "It's always good to see you, whatever the reason. How've you been?"

Did she notice the way he seemed to all be swell with pride at her attentions? Perhaps, but Cepheith didn't comment. Except to express her pleasure at being able to keep the bronze's company. Pipith was one of her two friends. And she rather adored the smaller bronze. I am doing well enough. Tired, like mine. But enjoying the day! Moving carefully, the gold settled herself beside her bronze companion, nuzzling Pipith. I am glad that I have you to count on for protecting our home. Cepheith murmured encouragingly, truly meaning what she said.
Just as she'd told Plexith something similar.
Not that she would deflate Pipith by telling him that.
Narisa just sighed, brushing some strands of hair out of her face and 'ignoring' her dragon. "Thanks." She said with a smile. "I've been... busy. As is to be expected, I guess. Definitely getting better at using my 'authoritive' tone." The goldrider said jokingly. "Or, as Cepheith will tell you, I've been working too hard and taking on too much. So... the usual."
I only speak truth. She was informed softly with an air of smugness.
"How about you?"

You will always have us for that, and for anything else you need. Issuing a contented rumble, he returned the gold's nuzzling attentions, his tail curling happy. Any day that included such attention from a Queen was instantly made into an excellent day, no matter what may have happened previously. Not that he ever got attention from any other Queen. Greens sometimes, yes, but that wasn't nearly as thrilling. It was nice, but greens were greens and Cepheith was Cepheith.
Even if Set'al found it various degrees of annoying when Pipith was being a schmooze, it was nice to not have a grumpy dragon in his head for a change - and despite how thickly he could sometimes lay it on, at least he was sincere about what he said. It could have been worse.
"I don't envy you that. Not all of our guests seem to be keen on behaving themselves. I hope the ranking ones are a little better, at least?" Thus far, he'd had nothing to do with any of the ranked riders from Benden or Malvren, or even any of their non-ranking bronzeriders, which was perfectly fine by him. He wasn't particularly eager to discover which ones might be decent and which ones might not be.
"I've been fine, just keeping my head down and helping out where we can. Getting used to having a roommate again. I'd kind of forgotten what it was like." But they were a pretty agreeable pair, at least, so it wasn't too terrible an adjustment to have to make.

Cepheith rumbled her appreciation at having such a bronze to count on. She eyed him critically, making sure there was nothing else that would put him in pain. I am very grateful for that. The Gold crooned, settling her head beside Pipith's poor paw. Especially during these times.
Narisa just shook her head at her dragon, unable to keep the smile from curling her lips up. It was nice to see Cepheith relaxed. Though the Gold wouldn't admit it, Narisa knew she was feeling the strain from working to keep everyone at Trine satisfied. Or from beating one another to a pulp.
"Aye, you have that much right. A lot of them are just scared. Or still filled with relinquished anger." She sighed, crossing her arms and glancing towards the dragons, a faint frown on her face. "They are, for the most part. But... shards, I don't like feeling... well, so distrustful!" Narisa felt her cheeks warm a little at admitting that. Though she'd discussed something similar with D'lin, she still couldn't help feeling that way. "The Wingleader's from Malvren are... hard to read. They seem very on edge, like they have something to prove. Benden's Wingleader is not bad though."
It is not unwise to be cautious, darling. Cepheith added softly.
Thankful for a slight change in subject, Narisa grinned again. "Got a little to used to having your own space?" She could understand that. But she had a pretty good pair for a roommate. "Everything else going alright with you two?" She really hadn't gotten the chance to chat with him since... the uprising.

Pipith's rumble turned into a happy hum, and he laid his head beside Cepheith's. He was quite small beside her, but he didn't mind - she was supposed to be bigger than him, after all, even if the size gap was greater than average. It is our pleasure, no matter the time. You deserve the best.
Sympathy and a hint of concern touched Set'al's features. "That's not a good feeling, no, but you've got some good Trine dragons and their riders you can trust in the meantime." He lowered his voice before adding, "And one Southern one, but don't tell him that. He's completely forgotten."
"Huh, I honestly would have expected it to be the other way around," he admitted, "Since Benden's...well, Benden. But Malvren did lose their Queen, so maybe that's got something to do with it. Hopefully everyone will settle down, eventually. I doubt anyone's going anywhere anytime soon."
"Maybe." Set'al mirrored her grin and chuckled at himself. "Shards, I sound like a spoiled bronzerider! That's terrifying. We're fine, though, really."

It was easily apparent that Cepheith did not mind Pipith's size at all. She was just happy to offer one of her dragons comfort and attention. Not to mention it was nice laying next to another dragon! And you are the best. She said with a bit of flattery.
No, it was not a good feeling. But as much as she disliked it, being cautious in these times was - as Ceph said - wise. That didn't mean she had to like it. Narisa tried to give Set'al a less wary look, which became easier at the reminder that she did have good Trine dragons to rely on. "You're right. I do still have my Trine rider's. And you, of course." She teased lightly, stifling a small laugh. "I promise I won't say a word~"
For a moment, her expression shifted into something slightly more serious as she frowned again. "It surprises me too, to be honest. I mentioned something similar to D'lin, since he's sharing quarters with N'mol." And she was sharing living space with Kindra. "They... are focused on getting Benden back, but will do what they can here for now. But Malvren... " She sighed, offering a weary smile. "I can't figure them out. But... I like them."
This time, Narisa did laugh. "Maybe you secretly are one." She grinned, feeling a small sense of relief that the bronze pair was really alright. "Which would clearly make me a spoiled Goldrider!"
That's because you are one. Cepheith added with wry amusement.

If it wouldn't have disturbed their rather comfortable positioning, Pipith would have preened. He was pleased as could be that Cepheith agreed with him on their superiority, and his thrumming deepened. Other than that, he was quiet for the moment, utterly content.
"At least you like them. That bodes well. Much better than hating their guts. I haven't properly met any of them yet, myself, but I'm sure I will sooner or later."
"Oh, Faranth, I hope not," Set'al said with exaggerated horror, groaning. "Or I'd have to reevaluate my life and figure out where I went wrong, and that might take awhile. Anyway, aren't goldriders supposed to be spoiled?" he teased back. "I thought that was pretty much a prerequisite."
Yes, and all bronzeriders are supposed to be self-absorbed wherries who aren't late for everything, Pipith decided to add.

She was... enjoying this much more than she probably should have. But having such a contended male curled next to her did wonders to make Cepheith relax more fully beside Pipith. Her tail curled almost in a possessive manner about the small bronze as the Queen heaved a sigh and let her inner eyelids drift closed.
Narisa nodded, feeling a bit of the tension she seemed to carry with her everywhere ease. "That is true. I'd really rather not hate them. Or have them hate me." Oh that would just be bad! Not to mention Cepheith was famous for having an explosive temper... "Oh, you haven't?" That startled her a little out of her thoughts. Interesting. Was that on purpose, she wondered. Or just coincidence he'd managed not to run into them?
Her cheeks definitely had some red to them now. "Of course not!" She attempted to defend herself, a smile tugging at her lips. "Otherwise, I'd have all of you," she gently nudged Set'al's arm, "licking my boots and waiting on me day and night!"
That could easily be arranged, darling. The Gold chuckled, not bothering to keep the conversation only between herself and her rider. What do you think, Pipith? Can we get Yours to join this cause?
"Cepheith!" Narisa all but squeaked indignantly. "I think you have to spoiled one, wrong." She added in a loud whisper to Set'al, looking at their dragons.

"Anyone who hates you needs their head checked." Maybe he was biased - actually, he probably was - but he'd never noticed anything about Narisa that would be any kind of justification to hate her. Or dislike her. She was a genuinely nice person, or else she was a better actor than any Harper. "Nope. Not that I've really gone looking, and I doubt they'd be looking for me, either." Judging by his shrug, he wasn't bothered.
Set'al laughed at the example Narisa used to refute the claim that she was spoiled, but before he could respond, Pipith was pressing him. Well, Mine? Will you join us?
This was an instance in which Set'al wasn't sure whether his dragon was joking, serious, or some combination thereof. He looked from the dragons to Narisa and back again, scratching his head, and finally grinned. "As long as the boot-licking part is optional, I could probably be swayed."

Shardit, how much more could her cheeks end up turning red?! She glanced down, almost shyly, a genuine smile cropping up. "I'm sure... they would have rational reasons... as to why." Not that she intended to do anything to make anyone hate her! Most certainly not on purpose. Shifting her weight from one foot to the other, she glanced back up curiously. "I guess I can't really say I blame you. You don't have to play the 'politics' and 'behave yourself' game." She wrinkled her nose at that.
Cepheith was giggling, letting her snout brush against Pipith. Oh this was fantastic! The sudden storm of indignant thoughts in her rider's mind... and the look on Pipith's rider's face! The Gold was quite enjoying this.
Narisa did squeak this time, giving them all a look. "Set'al! Not you too!" She groaned, hand pressing against her face in mock exasperation. She just shook her head, crossing her arms and looking between each of them before her lips twitched up into a smile. "Well... I guess for you, I can make it optional."

"I always behave myself," Set'al asserted, struggling and failing to keep a straight face. "Mostly. Usually." Yes, just like he was behaving so well now, joking with the Junior Weyrwoman about licking her boots.
"Well, in that case..." It was so hard not to laugh, especially with even a gold dragon giggling, but he managed it long enough to bow. "You have a slightly rusty Runner, at your service."
As Cepheith giggled, Pipith made a similar sound, though there was more of a snort to it. She would be better off with a flit, he confided in the Queen, They don't get distracted as easily.

Narisa just stared, not convinced and trying as hard as Set'al to keep her face straight. And just like him, she was failing. "Only usually?" Her eyebrows raised skeptically. And then she couldn't help but laugh. "Terrible! You are terrible!" She joked, another laugh bubbling out as he bowed. "Fine! Fine." Coughing to gain back some composure, Narisa curtseyed politely to Set'al once he rose. "Then I accept your services, Bronzerider Set'al! When I have need of a... slightly rust Runner, I will call upon you."
She held a serious face for all of a heartbeat, and then giggled, ignoring her dragon as best she can. "But don't hold your breath on it. I'm more likely to come find you myself when I need a friend to talk with."
I don't know... The Gold snorted in amusement, sharing a mental image with Pipith of one of her rider's flits. A green one. Who was... not the brightest flitter of the clutch. And easily distracted. It's okay though. Yours makes mine laugh a lot. I don't think we'd mind him being slightly distracted.
