 The basket was rather heavy. Not that Honeydew minded all that much, exactly, but it was true. The basket was heavy.
It was tied around his neck with a bright red ribbon -- a nice contrast to his otherwise mottled gray pelt. And the basket itself was brimming with freshly picked goodies, straight from Peophynnia's beautiful gardens. Edible flowers like violets and carnations, mixed with lush green lettuce leaves, bright orange carrots, and bundles of fresh green beans.
He was trotting, happily so, through his pasture, towards the open gate. Deliveries to the neighboring pasture would be easy, he hoped, even if he wasn't exactly sure which ponies were receiving which vegetables. But Peophynnia had described the ponies he was meant to find in Elycion Glades, so how hard could it really be?

 Lola had been pacing back and forth in front of her home, why hadn't her delivery come yet?
Perhaps she was being impatient, but Peophynnia had said they would be here bright and early! Taking a deep breath, she started hopping over a few small cobblestones that were scattered around on the pathway leading to the main field of the pasture to take her mind off of the lettuce.
"Mm...Lettuce..."
Getting lost in thought, Lola wasn't paying attention to where she was hopping, she didn't see the other pony making his way toward her home and before she knew it, she had hopped right into him, knocking them both over along with the basket tied around his neck. Her eyes going wide when she saw those leafy greens falling to the ground in slow motion.
"Nooooo!!! My lettuce...!!!"

His first delivery was to a rabbit, but. Well. That wasn't as descriptive as it probably could be. If Honeydew's home pasture was an accurate representation, then rabbit-ponies were not exactly a rare hybrid. In the short time he'd been in his own pasture, Honeydew had witnessed three bunny-like ponies make their homes there... and, if what Petit said was true, they were only but a small sampling of the lapine-equine half-breeds dotting all the pastures across the land.
And truthfully? This excited Honeydew! He loved rabbits! Every last one of them -- even the ones that seemed to hate him -- they were all adorable with their long ears and poofy li'l tails. But finding the rabbit in Elycion would probably prove difficult, if his home pasture was any indication....
...or maybe it wouldn't be. The next thing he saw, after entering the neighboring pasture, was a tan and brown blur.. and then every single piece of perfect vegetation tumbling out of his basket as he fell to the ground. He landed with an audible "Oof!" and a crunch as one of his front legs smashed down onto the wicker basket, but when he opened his eyes....
Bunny!
"Awww~!" he said, in a rather high-pitched voice. Uncaring about his tumble, apparently.. or the fallen veggies. "Aren't you cute!"

Veggies scattered everywhere, her eyes darted back and forth surveying the ground and she scooted forward to start picking up the lettuce leaves in her mouth.
Mumbling around them, she gathered up as much as she could, staring at him with wide eyes. "The lettuce is on the ground and all you care about is how cute I am?!"
Looking around desperately for something to set the lettuce on, she finally settled on a large nearby rock, placing the vegetation on it with great care, keeping one piece in her mouth to quickly nibble on it, swallowing it down with a content sigh.
"So delicious.. Hurry and help me pick this up before it gets to dirty!"
Leaning toward him, she nudged at him with her muzzle to try and get him off of the basket, biting down onto the ribbon to pull it out from under him before starting to fill it with the rest of the vegetables. "You aren't hurt are you?"

"Oh, right," he answered. Not only was this an unhappy customer, but Peophynnia would have his hide if she knew he'd allowed the deliveries to fall on the ground in such a way!
Pulling his long legs underneath himself, Honeydew rose to stand carefully, lifting one hoof to allow the bunny to drag his mangled basket over.
"No, I'm not hurt," he replied further, with a smile in his voice. "My basket, on the other hand..."
Bending down to help gather the rest of the beans, carrots and flowers -- because, it seemed, the rabbit had the lettuce under control -- Honeydew began piling the bruised veggies back into what was left of the basket. It was almost broken completely, nearly smashed in half from his leg falling onto it, and the ribbon was frayed and ripped a bit on the ends. That was a shame.. Peophynnia would have his hide for that, too.
"That'll make deliveries a little more difficult." Yeah, you don't say! "Do you know where I can find Lola? I think the lettuce.." That this rabbit here was currently munching on... "...was to go to her first."

Pushing herself up onto all fours once the veggies were gathered, she stared at the basket, scrunching her face up for a moment before mumbling quietly.
"Sorry about that. I may have one you can have as a replacement."
She turned to stare at the lettuce longingly, a little water and a good scrubbing and it would be good as new. Thoughts of what she would have for dinner started to flood her mind and she stood there, in a daze for a few minutes before snapping back to reality. "I am Lola!!!"
She smiled wide, her ears and tails twitching slightly before she took a few steps toward him. "I thought Peophynnia was going to be bringing these, who are you?"

Well. That made things simple enough.
"You're Lola," Honeydew repeated, the smile in his voice growing wide enough to cross the end of his muzzle. Peophynnia could have been a little more descriptive, at least giving him the head's up that Lola was lop-eared unlike the rest of the bunnies he was familiar with, but! At least he found her!
"Delivery completed, then!" He laughed at this -- a half-whinny, half-giggle that was loud and bubbly. It was the truth, was it not? Lola did have her lettuce after all...
"I'm Honeydew," he finally answered, after his chuckling subsided. "I'm helping Peophynnia. There were a lot of deliveries to take care of today." But without the basket...? "Did you say you had another basket I could borrow?"

"Well.. I said I might."
Smiling sheepishly, she bent to pick up the mangled basket, plopping it down to transfer the lettuce on top of everything else, mumbling before hoisting it up again and walking along the pathway leading back to her home.
"Follow me! I'll see what I can find."
Hopping along, she held onto the basket the best she could, almost dropping it a few times before making it over to the front door, setting it on the ground and singing happily. "Lettuce, lettuce, tastes so good!! Mm mm mm.. Carrots are good, too! But not as good as lettuce!"

Honeydew supposed he could finish the rest of the deliveries without a basket.... It would be tough, mind you, but he could do it. But he wasn't sure how happy the rest of Peophynnia's customers would be if he appeared at their stables with their freshly picked veggies in his mouth. You ordered green beans, but you get a side of Honeydew's spit for free!
The idea of this had Honeydew chuckling again to himself, though much more quiet this time. And he followed the rabbit as she hopped off with his tattered basket.
"So, you like lettuce, do you?" he asked, curiously, once she finished her song. A bit of a silly question, he figured, given her... exuberance over the leafy greens, but it felt a fitting query all the same. And he was grinning as he spoke, too.

Like lettuce? Well, that was an understatement. "I don't like lettuce, I love lettuce! How can you not, so crisp and fresh!"
She continued to ramble on about lettuce, how the color is so wonderful and all the many things you could do with it while she nudged the front door to her home open with her muzzle, making her way over to a small table where she set the vegetables down.
"Come in, come in! Don't mind the mess, wasn't exactly expecting company.." She smiled shyly and hopped off into another room to begin her hunt for a basket to replace the one she had broken.
"I know there is one around here somewhere!"

Lettuce was.... well... it was lettuce. Honeydew could certainly name off more flavorful vegetables right off of the top of his head. Carrots had more flavor than lettuce, and certainly more crunch. Tomatoes were more flavorful and the variety that Peophynnia grew were small and incredibly sweet. Delicious. But lettuce?
"To each their own," he replied amicably. Maybe, to a rabbit-pony, lettuce was the best thing to eat!
Dutifully, Honeydew followed Lola inside her home, being extra careful to politely knock bits of dirt out of the fluffy fur on his hooves before he stepped in. The mess was inconsequential, he didn't mind if it was or was not messy in the slightest, but he did mind that Lola was searching by herself.
"I'll help," he went on to say, once inside. And ducking into another room, which looked to him very much like it would be the kitchen, Honeydew began nosing his way through the bunny's various belongings. Bowls, some unraveled twine, a bit of rumpled cloth... and then...
"Aha!" Calling out, Honeydew was almost laughing a third time. Bending down, he pinched a leaf from rather large head of apparently forgotten lettuce out of the pile he was searching through, dragging it out to set it on the nearest counter. "I found something!"
