Lynnea mosied along slowly, making her way through the woods to her favorite meadow. While she had made it her mission to find little havens like the one she was walking to now, this one was by far the best: her coat blended in perfectly to the bright green, knee-high grasses, and her mane, while hard to match, had at least some camouflage among the many wildflowers that blossomed there. Even though she couldn't be sure, Lynnea thought that she was petite enough that no one could see her when looking at the whole meadow... But she knew she could always be proven wrong.
As she wound her way through the trees, they slowly began to thin, and she listed to the right. Sure enough, her little clearing was still there, whole and intact. She was delighted - Mother Nature had strange ways of showing her love sometimes, and when the sun shone for too long, her meadows had a tendency to either catch fire or wilt away. Today, however, the bees were buzzing quietly among the fronds of grass and the birdsong was beautiful.
Stepping lightly and quickly through the grass and trying her best not to crush the grass, Lynnea turned in a circle and laid down to bask in the sun. Yet another day, she was grateful to be one of the forest people; their gift of light feet had saved many plants over the years that less fortunate soquili would have squished beneath heavy hoofsteps.
Pondering this, Lynnea closed her eyes, just listening to the nature around her. Her father would have disapproved of her being without a female guardian, but he was not here - and she was fairly certain that they didn't train guardians to protect the mares in the Kawani lands. Sighing with relief, Lynnea realized that she didn't miss her role of the guarded daughter - she was far more content, just resting in her meadow, than she had ever been in the north.

Cheveyo had just recently returned from a long journey with his new friend Ahigo. He and the wolf had traveled far roaming lands neither had encountered before. Though it had been exhausting it had also been successful. Cheveyo had managed to map out some new places he had yet to see. He was quite proud of himself for adding to his knowledge of the lands he now called home.
The day had turned out to be lovely, the skies clear the sun warm and a gentle breeze raced through the trees. Cheveyo decided he would take it easy today and go for a stroll. As he walked he concentrated hard on not tripped over any roots, rocks, ...or himself. So intent was his focus that Cheveyo did not realize how far he walked. Suddenly he felt the warmth of the sun on his back as he stumbled upon the meadow.
The stallion felt he had stepped into a place of legend, not a real meadow. "Whoah" Chev breathed in and stepped forward feeling the grass tickled his legs. Never had he encountered something such as this. Carefully he picked his way further into the clearing. Cheveyo breathed in the scent of the place, savoring it. Suddenly a gust of wind picked up and brought new scents to his nose. He could smell...something not made of plants in this meadow. He stood stock still and scanned the entire area. When Cheveyo couldn't see anything he shifted into a defensive position and decided what to do next. "Hello?" Chev called out after deciding to give himself away, he wasn't exactly hidden standing in the clearing.

Lynnea froze, taking a sharp breath in through her nose. Someone was here. Though she hadn't been paying much attention to her surroundings, she was still surprised that she hadn't heard him coming - for that was a male voice - from a bit farther away, which could mean he was one of two things: either some kind of predatory, stalking animal, or one of the forest people, given the gift of quiet feet. Carefully flicking her ears and turning her head, she looked toward where his 'hello' had come from; it wasn't too far away, but he was still on the edge of the meadow. Thinking about getting up and greeting him, as any polite female would do, she calculated her chances of getting away if he proved to be anything less than friendly. As she figured that she could risk it, she put her feet underneath herself and got to her hooves.
The stallion on the other side of the meadow turned out to be one of the forest people, after all. Though she was still cautious, Lynnea dipped her head and bent a little at the knees, curtsying the way she was taught to do whenever she was approached by a male. It was a hard habit to break, as it was more of an inconvenience when there wasn't anyone to protect her while her head was lowered... But even as she stood up straight again, Lynnea tried giving him a small smile. While she didn't want to seem like a flirt, she also wanted to give him a reason not to attack her, if he wasn't friendly. It really was the only thing on her mind - fight or flight. Wanting him to see that she was friendly, she gave him a soft, "Hello," in return. So busy was she finding escape routes that she didn't even notice the fact that he was handsome, or that his 'hello' had seemed far more tentative than she had interpreted it. All Lynnea saw was that he was formidable, and in that moment, all she hoped was that he was nice. Theidren How many times can you use 'friendly' in one tag? I need some synonyms. XP

As soon as saw the mare rise Cheveyo dropped his defensive stance. A Cerynei like himself he decided as he looked her over. It was extremely hard not to stare at her,for her coat was a lovely bright green a perfect camouflage. He was suddenly very glad his feet had brought him here. Chev watched as the mare curtsied to him, something he had not seen for a long while. The stallion fumbled for the correct response before hours of lessons from him grand mare kicked in. Cheveyo bowed his right hoof slightly forward and tipped his tined head to her. Silently he sent thanks to his grand mare for forcing him to learn these things.
"Greetings lady of the meadow" Cheveyo called to her and easily took a few steps forward. He stopped as he realized that he may in fact be intruding upon her. "May I approach miss?" Cheveyo tilted his head slightly as a smile lit his face. "I didn't mean to interrupt your quiet space, apologies" he dipped his head again to her. Another breeze raced through the magical space making the tall grass ripple like water. Chev shifted his weight as between his hooves as he waited for an reply.Mahogany Sunset I totally have a thesaurus tab open >.< lol

Lynnea felt like doing a double take when the stallion bowed, and felt her guard lower considerably. That was something that she hadn't seen at all during the entirety of her journey, and the way he spoke - she felt like she was back at home, but without the horrid feeling of being trapped. Once she stopped worrying about his intentions, she began to see his actual appearance for what it was; like all of the stallions she had grown up with, he was maneless. His coat was much more showy than any she had yet seen, and most likely couldn't be used very well as camouflage, except maybe in moonlight...
Shaking herself free of her thoughts, Lynnea answered him, but immediately chastised herself mentally for defaulting to her submissive side. "Greetings," she said, smiling a bit more and resisting the urge to look at her feet. "You may, and I am glad for the interruption," she replied. "Too much time alone with one's thoughts can become unhealthy after a while. There haven't been many too interrupt them thus far, and I am beginning to feel quite lonely." Satisfied with her answer, Lynnea asked, "What is your name, sir?"

Cheveyo stood with a smile on his face as he waited for the mare to answer. The breeze picked up again and he watched as it caught her mane and tail. Cheveyo zone out thinking about how it was the color of certain wild flowers, or ripe berries. Quickly he realized the mare had in fact answered him. With her permission Cheveyo made his way closer to her and attempted to trod gently amongst the grasses and flowers.
The stallion stopped at a respectable distance but was close enough so that they could easily talk to each other. "Greetings my lady" Using an older form of greeting. It felt a little strange using it. He was always polite and chivalrous to everyone but this form of greeting felt right to offer the lovely mare before him. "I agree with you, sometimes I feel as though I spend too much time in the forest than amongst our kind." He gave a slight chuckle and shook his head slightly. "Well then I am glad to have interrupted you, my name is CHeveyo." he dipped his head before asking. "And what name do they call you?" Chev smiled at her gently.

As Cheveyo approached her, Lynnea watched his hooves out of the corner of her eye. He was, despite his size, remarkably good at keeping his weight from harming too many blades of grass - even the trained trackers of the north would have had trouble locating his trail. And his manners were impeccable, for he stopped at an appropriate distance from her. Her respect for this gentleman was increasing with each moment in his presence.
Smiling at his affirmation of her thoughts, Lynnea resisted the urge to laugh in return. "I have yet to meet another of our kind here," she said sadly. "My name is Lynnea, after a flower in the north. Is there a meaning behind your name, Cheveyo?" she asked, not meaning to sound challenging, if she did; she was genuinely curious.

Lynnea...what a beautiful name Cheveyo thought to himself as he quietly listened to the mare speak with rapt attention. He felt a pang of sadness as she told him that he was the first of their kind she had met in these new lands. Cheveyo knew from experience that it could be difficult to be away from the people. This was just another reason that he was thankful to have stumbled his way to this meadow. Now Lynnea had at least one Cerynei she knew here. "I know being away from the people can be...lonesome at times." Chev admitted to her.
"I came to the Kawani lands with a small herd of our people, I haven't seen any of them since arriving however." Cheveyo sighed with that admittance. He laughed slightly as he told her what his name meant. "According to my grand mare my name means Spirit Warrior." He tried to copy the way his grand mare had said it, all serious and with a misty look on his face. Cheveyo smiled and shook his head gently. "Serious mare that one" He told Lynnea. "I hope dear lady you have not been a lone this entire time since traveling here." He didn't know how anyone would pass up trying to make friends with the lovely Lynnea.

Lynnea nodded in agreement - being away from her people like she was had made her the loneliest she'd ever been, even when she had felt entirely friendless in her father's household. "It's unfortunate that your party broke up..." she said, wondering if he missed them. She was almost sure that he did - for who wanders alone without longing for some form of companionship? She herself often missed having a guard, for though they were mostly silent, they had always responded when she'd wanted to talk. But that was beside the point.
Lynnea smiled at his description of his grandmother - she'd had a grandmother like that, once upon a time. "That is exactly the way my grandmother told me what I was named after the first time I brought the flower home after spending a day in the mountains." His last statement gave her pause for a moment - she'd only met one other, and that had been brief. "I met colt a not too long ago. He was very brash, and a unicorn, I think," she said. "That is all, excepting you, nature, and a few animals, of course. And you? Have you met many others since being here?" Nature, alive as it was, kept her from becoming truly lonely. Whenever she had wished for company as a child - in the rare moments that she had been left alone - Lynnea had always sat quietly in the grass. She had discovered then, that if one was quiet enough, one could hear nature's music: blades of grass and branches whispering in the breeze, the rustle of bushes and the chirping of birds. Since then, she had been quick to leave the company of loud people, as they gave her an unpleasant pang that she couldn't explain. Loud noises just made her cringe.
Suddenly struck by a thought, Lynnea mulled over the idea teaching Cheveyo to listen, if he did not already know and grew lonesome often. However, as it was something that many of her kind learned naturally, she decided to wait on pitching her idea until she knew him better, for she planned on trying to spend a bit of time with him. He was quite charming, whether he realized it or not.

He nodded as Lynnea spoke. "Yes it was" The reason why he had come with a party of Cerynei and not his family was more unfortunate. He looked down at his hooves for a second before raising his head. Cheveyo smiled as Lynnea too reminisced about her grandmother. “It has been…lonely to say the least.” He admitted. “I am thankful for once my wondering led me to someone who needed a friend.” He offered giving a gentle laugh. Normally he just wandered trying to learn and observe the kawani lands and followed where his feet led him.
“I’ve met some interesting soquili here, there other day I went on a night watch with an interesting fellow.” He smiled thinking of his new friend “And I’ve met young half breed Ceryeni who is wise beyond her years.” Chev looked at the sky for a moment trying to think. “Those are all the recent encounters, besides this one.” He looked at Lynnea and smiled his bright smile at her. Cheveyo took a tiny step closer to her unconsciously as he asked “Do you come to this meadow often? I’ve seen some amazing places here but nothing compared to this.” Cheveyo looked around again as a breeze wafted through at that moment making the grass and wildflowers sway gently.Mahogany Sunset Yay! finally! sorry it took me so long classes are kicking my butt!

Lynnea gave Cheveyo a sweet smile. "It was certainly high time to find a friend," she replied. "I was beginning to think it would just be me and my meadows until someone came to fetch me back home..." Trailing off, she cleared her throat. Why had she said that? She didn't want to bring her 'baggage' into this. It was far too early in this budding friendship to be dropping boulders in its path...
Annoyed with herself, she huffed mentally and answered his question, her smile getting a little bigger. Lynnea had always loved it when people paid attention to things she was interested in, whether she explicitly mentioned them or not. "I make my rounds," she said. "This is my favorite meadow, but the meadows here are as varied as a Cerynei's pelt. There are some adjacent to streams, some hiding in the darkest regions of the forest where it seems like everything else is gnarled and dangerous-looking. I try to take care of all of them, but I do not know enough about the plants here to mend them. So I just check on them and try to lessen their wasting away... It can be a very sad business sometimes, but new plants always take root where the old ones were."
Watching him take another step, Lynnea looked up into Cheveyo's eyes. They were getting a bit closer now, closer than she'd really ever been to a male that wasn't a colt or her father. Not sure how she felt about it, Lynnea resisted the urge to step back - she didn't want to seem rude, and being close wasn't unpleasant. It was just... different.

He gave a soft smile and nodded as he agreed with Lynnea. Cheveyo caught the next part of the conversation with sharp ears. But since the mare seemed to feel slightly uncomfortable having mentioned it, he decided to not say anything about it. However on the inside he felt strangely protective of his new friend. She had been so nice to him he didn’t want to see her upset. Cheveyo smiled brightly when Lynnea mentioned doing her rounds. That was something he loved to do, mostly it’s all he did. He felt maybe he was missing some great undiscovered areas in the Kawani lands by roaming so widely. Chev almost chuckled as he remembered something his grandmare told him “Looking at the forest not the trees.” Or something to that effect, she changed it frequently.
Cheveyo listened intently to the places Lynnea described to him. “I do not think I have seen any of these places.” He looked sheepishly at the mare, into her eyes and asked. “Maybe the lady would care to show me these secrets sometime?” He didn’t want to seem brash so he followed with.” Maybe I have seen these plants before and can offer some assistance?” Cheveyo grinned at Lynnea hoping he hadn’t made her uncomfortable.

Lynnea's cheeks were beginning to get sore from all the smiling she was doing, but she couldn't help but return his yet again - it was simply infectious. She couldn't remember smiling this much at once in her entire life - which was a bit depressing. The guards had the humor trained out of them, and though sometimes that made for misunderstandings, it usually benefitted the patriarch in the end. Just like it was supposed to. No one got away due to a lapse in attention because of a funny joke.
Lynnea was so caught up in smiling at him that she'd forgotten to answer his question - or proposal, or whatever the proper term for it was. Flustered, she gave an involuntary little laugh, glancing down at her feet for a moment before looking back up at Cheveyo. "That sounds really wonderful," she replied. "If you would care to, there is actually a plant in this meadow that I have been puzzling over for a few days. It needs a new pair of eyes to look at it, as I cannot seem to gleen what is wrong with it." Gesturing with a nod of her head toward the back of the meadow, Lynnea led the way toward a small, yellowing, leafy sapling. "I'm not sure what it is called, but do you think we can do something for it?" she asked, looking imploringly up at the stallion. Feel free to do whatever you want with the tree. <3

The blue stallion dropped his goody beaming grin and took on a slightly more serious tone when Lynnea asked for his assistance with the plant. He followed her to the back part of the meadow and looked down at the sapling the mare motioned to and then back at her face. Cheveyo had never wanted to be able to help someone so bad.Let me look what we have here.
Slowly the stallion circled around the tiny sapling, the tiny thing almost just reaching the height of his knees. While some of the leaves had a nice healthy green color. Chev took more note of the sick yellowing of a great half of the leaves, even the bark on the tiny plant looked yellowish to him. He leaned in closely and sniffed the plant and studied the shape and size of the leaves for a few moments. "Well M'lady.... This I'm fairly certain is a dogwood tree. One of my favorites actually." Cheveyo normally would smile and be proud that he could decipher what type a tree or plant at such a young stage the stallion just continued to frown and stare at the sapling. "I am however uncertain...." Cheveyo didn't finish his sentence as he stared closely at the ground around the tree. With a quick movement he leaned in and nibbled off one of the smallest of the sick leaves. He chewed and then spit out the bitter leaf. "Pardon me." he spoke to Lynnea and moved to begin pawing at the earth around the sapling. It took him a few moments as he moved in a gentle manner. Finally he pawed up what looked like tiny vines covered in smaller prickly looking things. "AHHH... I should have known. This is what is causing this plant to suffer." Chev nodded and then proceeded to very carefully paw up and remove the tiny vines. " This is a ....you know... I can't quite remember the actual name of the plant, everyone I've heard mention it calls it something different. It's a stubborn thing, hard to get rid of. These vines suck out the nutrients in the soil but also can be slightly toxic. A sapling of this size wouldn't last too much longer living in this soil. But once removed it dissipates quickly enough the tree should be fine. We just need to keep an eye on this little bugger." Cheveyo pawed at the pile of vines at his feet. "The toxin is actually useful in some healing medicines. And if we follow these we can find the main plant" He looked up and smiled at Lynnea happy he could figure out what was going on. Luckily it wasn't anything worse than that, he let out a small sigh of relief.

Lynnea studied Cheveyo as he dug at the base of the little treeling. When he pulled up the root of a thorny thing, she gasped and looked closer. "That is a hideous looking parasite," she replied, having seen such a thing before, only in the form of mistletoe. Turning a little away from him to look back toward the direction from which the vine came, Lynnea had almost set off on her own before glancing back to him. "Sorry, this independence thing has turned me into a bit of lone wolf without my notice. Would you like to go find the root of the problem so we can get rid of it? Then we can come back and water the poor little dogwood." Now singly-minded and on a hunt for justice for one of her chosen plants (melodramatic as it might be), Lynnea decided that she'd ask the questions that would sate her curiosity later.
Putting her hoof gently next to Cheveyo's, Lynnea caught the thorny weed in the cloven part of her foot, wrapping it carefully around the tough exterior. Pulling a little, she walked a short distance from him, dirt popping away from the plant as it came out of the ground. "All we have to do is follow the plant," she said, shrugging as well as she could.
