The young mare had been venturing out through the woods trying to feel the energy of the spirits. Her father was lucky because he could speak and see them, but she couldn’t. No one else in the family could, but they all believed in them. She was fascinated by this belief so much that most of the time she was out trying to feel them around her. She knew they were there because her father wouldn’t lie about something so serious, but at the same time why weren’t they communicating with her? Why couldn’t she feel their chill? Snorting in irritation, she continued on the same path her father walked seeing the small graves and feeling the air get colder even though she knew it was warm out. Though for some reason the woods were always a little more cooler then they shoulder have been. This didn’t frighten her or make her uneasy. Instead, she approached one of the mossy covered graves and stared down at it. Her beads clinking together as she moved echoing through the silent forest.

“I hope you didn’t die in vain.” She spoke softly to the makeshift looking gravestone made out of twigs, stones and leaves. It was definitely the grave of an animal, but she didn’t know which kind. Turning around away from the saddening sight, she continued on letting her feet take her as far as they wanted to. Her father would travel for days without rest. This was something she didn’t understand. His will to help others must have been strong to accomplish such a task. Of course he didn’t do that now that he had a family and was leader of their herd, but at one time he did.

Now it was her time to do what he did and she felt she was doing a really good job. Once she reached the split in the path, she paused and looked around. This is where she usually stopped because she never knew what road to take. So she turned away from both of them and reered off the path going into the brush. She climbed over bushes and weaved through trees. She felt a small uneasiness in her stomach and didn’t know if it was from the change in her path choice or if it was from something coming towards her. Either way she was ready for whatever may come her way.
