So turns out making decorations was really hard. Really, really hard. Danny was cutting paper in her kitchen with her tongue stuck out and everything. They'd announced a Fright Nite festival, and that meant a chance to represent FMC. With Roch gone, it was up to her.
Danny's procrastination got the better of her. She picked up her phone and dialed the number with a frown. Still nothing. Either he had his phone turned off, he was out of service, or he was just plain old ignoring her.
She sighed and went back to cutting paper. Balloons were supposed to look like this weren't they? With faces and everything?

When Rikki let himself into Danny's dorm, toting a shiny new guitar case, he was mildly disturbed be the sheer mass of paper balloons with frankly creepy faces. Each one seemed to be staring at him with an intensity that made his skin crawl; even the one burning rapidly in Danny's lava.
So weird.
He waded through the balloons until he found Danny any a pile of scraps of paper forming a mountain around her. "Hey, darkling. Uh... what are you doing?"

"Decorations!" she said happily, waving the scissors in the air, becoming a hazard to herself and those around her. She hadn't turned around yet- focusing on balloons was just too much effort.
She tossed another one onto the floor, the place where she was setting all of her "done" balloons actually. She had amassed quite a few, and her pile was ever growing. "'Cause I dunno where Roch is, and we have Fright Nite soon!"
Her tail swished lazily back and forth, catching one on fire as it fell. Luckily it landed away from the pile, so only one was lost. "What's up?"

"Fright Nite?" Rikki parroted. He vaguely remembered something about a flyer or someone talking about it, but Rikki wasn't the best with keeping up with school events on the best of days, so when he was preoccupied with other things it just didn't click. School just wasn't as important as the rest of his life.
He lifted the guitar case a little to draw her attention it it and grinned. "I bought something, that's what's up."

"It's like floresctival but tiny kinda?" she said, setting the scissors down. She intended to turn around and run at him with a tackle, but when she did she found that his arms were quite full.
A guitar. Well then. Danny was actually a little depressed about breaking her guitar of 4 years, so seeing a new one- WITH FLAMES UNHOLY s**t- was pretty saddening.
"Oh ... are you gonna learn to play guitar too? That's cool- I can teach you sometime," she said, smiling at him.

Oh, Floresctival had been fun! That's where he'd gotten Ruska, which had been a good time. If it was going to be anything like that it was bound to be fun. Though if these balloons were going to be there it might verge on vaguely disturbing.
He caressed the side of the guitar gently and shook his head. "Nah, I'm not learning to play. You know I'm bad at it. I bought this for the best ghoul I know." He set the guitar down next to her and smiled. "When you broke your guitar I decided to get this one for you, so I got a job. Took me a while, and a few days of sneaking away, but I earned enough and bought it."

Danny sparkled all the sparkly feelings of a teenage ghoul. Best ghoul I know. He said best ghoul. Danny never got told that- Oersted was the one that was "best."
She took the guitar case from his hands lifting it up and then setting it back down where it had been so she could open the case. Once the case was cracked open she took a moment just to look the guitar up and down, still somewhat phased by Rikki's praise. It was gorgeous- shiny new cherrywood with flames. A claw went to pluck at the strings, admiring the twang it made. It wasn't anything like her old one, but somehow it was still entirely special on its own.
A tiny smile crossed her face and she turned back to her boilfriend and wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you, seriously." Those who knew Danny would know she didn't often say her "P's and Q's." "I mean I coulda just bought a new one ..." She put a quick kiss on his cheek and asked, "Can I do somethin' to make up for it?" With Rikki, she didn't want something for nothing.

Rikki grinned, entirely pleased with himself and with Danny's reaction. That thank you was enough, and he was prepared to tell her so, until he remembered a tiny little detail that he'd rather just forget. He wished he could just ask her to play a song for him, but instead what came out of his mouth was "Well, there is something you can do."
He rubbed his neck sheepishly and sighed. "My parents sent me a letter the other day. They know I'm dating a demon, and they're kind of tired of waiting. They want to meet you." He took her hand in his stained fingers. "They're having a dinner party tonight. You don't have to come if you don't want to though."

Danny's face twisted up a bit as Rikki said parents. She would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous to meet them. A knot formed in her stomach. What if they didn't like her? What if it was like in the movies where the parents separate the ghoul and the boil from each other?
Yet at the same time, it was kind of exciting. She heard lots of stories, mostly snide comments about his parents. She wanted to meet the mysterious duo that made Rikki ... well Rikki.
She squeezed his hands and said, "I wanna meet them!" She smiled and said, "Should I call Perkins to come drive us?"

"Uhm," Rikki looked even more sheepish as she asked about Perkins, if that were possible, and shook his head. "My parents had my horse brought by earlier today. We've just got to get ready and then we can ride her to my house. It's not that far." It probably would have been more comfortable for Danny if she rode in Perkins's car, but Espoo was already here and Rikki was kind of anxious to take any chance he could to ride his beloved horse.
"You don't have to dress super fancy or anything, but it might be a good idea to look nice. I've gotta go change before we go, so I can meet you outside the demon dorms in a little while if you want?" If it wasn't obvious before how nervous and freaked out about this Rikki was, it was quickly becoming apparent with how he ran his hand through his hair and began looking a bit pale. Even he didn't know how his parents would react, and well, it was just a weird situation.

Danny frowned at the idea of dressing up, but Rikki was telling her to do it, so she would. Rikki was never wrong after all right? Besides, he just bought her a guitar. She owed him.
"Mmkay," she said a little worriedly. She wasn't really sure HOW to dress herself up. May she would call Xiu ... Oh! Gene! Gene had nice clothes right?
Yeah, this would be bad.

Later she nervously waited outside her door for Rikki. Woth the assistance of many, many friends, she'd managed to get all dolled up in an outfit that even her mother would be proud of. It was a darker shade of red that was nearly black. Her feet were still covered with flat sandals though. There was no way she'd survive in heels after all.
She just hoped it would be enough.

Rikki walked toward the demon dorms wearing a neat cut black suit and orange tie that matched the color of his eyes. He'd even changed out his customary boots for a pair of nice, shiny shoes that made him look far more adult that he really wanted to. While there was still evidence of him running his hands through his hair in his stressed state, he'd at least managed to tame the dark locks.
It may be weird to see him in a suit, but Rikki knew how to wear them well.
He approached the dorms with his hands in his pockets and stopped dead at the sight of Danny, floundering a bit. She looked... well, she looked drop dead gorgeous. He'd been worried she wouldn't have anything dressy to wear, but now he felt silly for being concerned at all. She looked perfect. "Hey," he called as he walked closer, having to swallow a bit of dryness in his throat. "You look amazing. You're going to kill it tonight," he grinned, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

Danny had similar feelings seeing Rikki in a suit. It looked so out of place on him, yet he worked it in his entirety. Rikki's jawline was just meant for suits. He somehow looked a million years older, but still retained his ... Rikki-ness. She gave him a quick hug in greeting and then turned to go out the door.
She hooked hands with hin as they walked down the hallway, a thin smile painting her nervous lips. It was kind of fun actually. They'd never gone on a formal date- this was sort of like a date, right? "Are we fighting?" she asked. Her shoes were not meant for fighting! "What are we killing?" she asked as they walked out th demon dorm doors and into the campus space. Now where exactly was this mysterious horse?

He laughed as he led her out and around the dorms. "It's an expression, screech. It means you're going to be awesome." He stroked her hand with his thumb and led her just past the building, where a black horse grazed happily. She was impossibly thin, showing bones so clearly Rikki could count them all, but it was obvious she was still happy and healthy. As they approached she raised her head and leveled glowing eyes on them, letting out a happy whinny.
Rikki seemed to visibly relax and reached out to stroke down her nose, then guided her head toward Danny. "Danny, this is my horse, Espoo. I learned how to ride by training her. Espoo," he cooed, pressing his face to her cheek lovingly, "this is Danny. Be nice to her."
The horse took a huge whuffing sniff of the demoness and seemed vaguely unimpressed.

Danny reached out to pet the horse and then thought better of it. She'd been bitten by more than one horseman. It wasn't very fun. Maybe she should stop trying to pet all the horsies.
Still, it was exciting. Danny had ridden horses before, sure, but only at things like fairs and mountain trips. Rikki got boilfriend points for training a freakin' horse. Seemed there were still things she didn't know about him.
"Horsieee," she cooed, smiling at it. "She's really pretty," Danny said, admiring the way the bones jutted out. It was very creepy, perfect for Halloween. "Can I just hop on?" she asked, moving towards the saddle. Danny was already rearing to go.
