He'd woken up-- Roch almost muttered something as they drove down the street a little past noon. They'd been perfectly fine sleeping in the same bed, right? It'd been a bit bumpy, sure, there'd been a rock under his pillow, and he hadn't even thought about how zipping the two sleeping bags together would work out--they shared a bed a lot--
Just... not that small of a bed and not in that cold of a situation. Every time he'd woken up, Amphi had been trying to crawl inside of him for warmth--and when he'd woken up in the morning--
Well... somehow there'd been a tangle up and a bit more in his hands than he was used to--he was bright red even as he remembered. Roch, while sleeping, had gotten to second base.
Oh jack did he hope she'd still been asleep when he realized it.

Of course they had been fine sleeping in the same bed! Even with the cold cold cold night air, The mermaid had made it to somewhere warm and perfectly comfortable for her. When she had woken up though, she had woken up alone and with her boilfriend vacating the tent with a face redder then a apple.
Of course in her grogginess, she just mumbled and growled and then settled back down, totally unaware that her boilfriend had had handfuls of her very precious...assests in his grasp. Second base and his ghoul didn't even know it. The sleeping bag had been drawn up till the very last minute when Roch had returned urging her awake, and trying very hard not to touch her at the same time.
A quick dip in the pool and a hour of packing up had them zipping off on his bike again, passing the woods into the small countryside where....well...not much was to look at. The ride was slow enough and smooth enough that Amphi, as she held on to Roch's waist, had rewound the excitement of last night.
it was odd for her to think about it but...she had made a squeak...and Roch was sure of it. Maybe something had startled her voice out of her...Thoughts like this had her opening her mouth to force something out again but...still nothing.

There was a town in the distance--and even through the thick material of his vest--nope, not going there, not thinking about it-- "Wanna stop for some food and gas, blue eyes?" he asked over the mic, already starting to slow down as they got close enough. The town was pretty--tall, antique looking buildings stood several feet apart from one another, people walked down the cobbled streets as if they had all the time in the world, and scarelings played games in the middle of the road.
There were mostly reapers, he noticed, but he caught sight of a few dragons strolling peacefully around the corner in humanoid form, and a dozen skeletons sitting on the front steps of an apartment building, talking crap and laughing loudly.
"Y'can tell we're getting closer to home," he said absently. Of course she couldn't--but he could. The only difference was, he thought as he looked left, that there was a port right there for the river that the city was on. And the accents were funny.

Amphi nodded as she squeezed him tight, pulling off into a town and parking. In awe, she looked at all the city dwellers and studied the the laughing skeletons as Roch pumped the motorcycle with gas.
"Galee, Ain't that a little fish' way down away from her bayou." The skeleton cackled as it pointed out Roch and Amphi as newcomers. "We never get dem folks ridin' around this part of the swamp!" It cackled again as Amphi cocked her head.
"ain't the last one we done seen been fish mangled on the poor boil on Reese street? Thought she'd be a real beaut but ended up egg laying and now look at the she banshee...." The partner in crime to the skeleton elbowed the other one and kept howling with laughter.
Amphi just continued to stare at them. Just...what even were they talking about? She couldn't understand their dialect of talking. Reaching over, she tugged on Roch's shirt and pointed at them. Were they people he knew?

Roch turned, looking at them blankly before heading in to pay for his gas. It only took a second, but he felt worried even then. He had caught the drift of what the skeletons were saying--somewhat, but not enough to know if he could trust them or not.
And he was running low on gas money. He hadn't planned on feeding both of them on top of the gas--
"Amphi, I gotta make some silver," he said as he came out. "Wanna walk? See if we can find a good corner?"

Amphi blinked as he mention a corner.
Why would they need a corner? Well where ever he went, she would go. Especially since the skeleton things were still jabbing each other with laughs and their funny way of talking.
She swiveled her head that way and this way.
"Whoa now little les enfants, You can't be thinking of leaving me and ol' Ray blue hanging! We ain't had any pretty company, nor young little boils to keep us entertain.." The skeleton gestured them over and then pointed at Roch, "I seen ya kind around, big city folk. Your hair all this way and tha'. You got them studs and them ink but you think ya ready for the big life?" The skeleton cackled again.
"Ah Dun thin' they know whatchu talking about Nicky, little ghoulie over there doesn't even know it yet but her boil, we see dem look in the boil's eyes all the time. You young, but ain't too young for scarelings too." The more blue orientated skeleton patted a seat next to him...Amphi automatically going over to stare at him with big blue wide eyes. Too young?
"Now ain't chu a looker. All big blue eyes and tiny little thing, but you know that scarelings don't think of those things. They just pop out one day, and then you got a whole herd livin' under your roof and eatin all the gator stew."
Amphi was still staring blankly. Scarelings? What about scarelings? Her and scarelings? She didn't have those. her head cocked to the side. Gator Stew?
"Now don't be hogging all the story time Nicky!" The red skeleton named Ray blue pushed the skeleton named Nicky, "Now look lil lady, sarelings come from one thing, A boil's loins and they are-" Somebody stop him because this was not a lesson the mermaid needed right now.

"S'cuse me," Roch said, tugging Amphi back so he was standing in front of her slightly. "Name's Roch--I come from Croost Street in Misery," he told them. "An' I'm lookin' for some seeds so we can make it back there."
"Dat be anudder two dace ride on dat dere wheeled horse o'yours," an older skeleton said. "You gonna need lots more den seeds, boil."
"Like protection charms!" another one hooted. "Or a punkin!"
"Dey gonna need more den just ONE!" the first said.

Amphi heard protection charms and turned red. Were they talking about her and Roch together!??!
She peeked behind Roch and pointed at her and them. Them? Needing protection charms? No way!
"Look at that little filly eyed lass, Boil you better make sure she don't draw you in. Dem big blue's are just beggin for some attention." the skeleton leaned back and crossed his fingers. "there's a maid down on ghoulish lane, that's right down the street and a little to the left. She's-"
"You talkin' bout that maid who came here a couple years back, the one dat all green eyes and not much else? The one who married little Bubba jr. and popped out dem twin demons?" Another chimed, "You planning to send dem to be tortured? Dey don't need any of dem pumpkins she got waiting around dere. Nah whatchu kids need is the ghoul down on Dreary lane, she's got some pumkin's that be just right for dem big blue's. And city folk hairs." Another chimed in.
"Anyways, ya'll lookin for dat seeds, you gunna have to do some hard labor. We ain't much around dis ol' town but we get by. You..." Nicky pointed at Amphi and beckoned her near, "dun be afraid little thing, I ain't no skeleton playa, I just like a pretty face and good company. Come here little thing, we put your boil to work and you just sit here an' enjoy some lemonade. Homemade." Nicky turned to Ray Blue and shouted, "Ray get da lass a drink, and fetch the boil some of the ol' tools." Nicky looked back to Roch and smiled a bony smile. "I got a job dat get you some seeds enough for the next job, you good with buildin' things?" Nicky waited as Amphi nodded and took a seat next to the skeleton again.
They were entertaining in the least, even if they did make her blush at the topic. And she was curious about just what they were talking about with the other ghouls. How come they had so many pumpkins?

Roch almost yelped as he realized what they were talking about. "No! I mean, uh, we're still in school! No jackin' way we're gonna have scarelings when w'ere still hobs! And we're just headin' t'my hometown cuz I wanna talk t'a friend--and I got a way I can make some seeds quick, I j'st need t'find a good corner--"
The skeletons stared at him.
"Okay, fine, LOOK," Roch said, holding out his hand (much to their sudden protests) and summoning his guitar. "I'm a natural born guitarist--I got skills, at least enough t' pick up some seeds for lunch and gas t'get to the next town," he said. "And I CAN put stuff t'gether, but like y'said, two more days ridin', I ain't got the time."

Amphi just stared and stared and sipped on her lemonade. The skeletons were like so very amusing....Very enjoying and since her boil was turning so red, it was like a show...somewhere someone had given her a bowl of of something fried and she was munching on them happily.
Apparently Amphi fitted in well with Cajun skeletons.
"I just sayin boilo, you go to a school, you sleep wit da gurl, you get da pumpkins. Ain't no choice." The skeleton stared at the guitar. "Unless ya thinkin of smashing things with that, you won't make too many seeds here. Like i said, we a small town, we get by barely on our silva seeds. You want enough for two days trip then ya gotta spend..." Skeleton held up a bony finger in thought. "ya gotta spend a hour fixing up that over there. Set a new beam...ain't nuthin more, about hours work and we'll keep your ghoul safe."
Amphi was still munching on things and stared up at Roch, why they had come from a bigger city that be willing to spare some seeds, She didn't think it would be the same here. She also wondered why he didn't ask her? He knew she was the princess of the sea...kinda. She was very well off and usually carried enough seeds to fund a month for five people.
Though the thought of him working made her smile. Her boil being all manly and sexy...heh.
"Your ghoul seems well off on the idea as well. Though I gotta say, never seen a quieter mermaid, ya mute ghoulie?" The skeleton cackled, "We got a mute, deaf and blind old daft of a boil running a grocery shop not far from here, don't know how he does it but he got some really good touching senses."

He looked at Amphi--who was being treated like a beloved grandscareling, then looked at the skeletons, who planned on putting him to work. "Fine," he said, unzipping his vest and tossing it to Amphi. "Let's go to work," he said to the skeleton that had gotten the tools.
He let his guitar dissipate and he glanced at Amphi a bit dryly-- "I ain't sure how, blue eyes, but you encouraged them, didn't you?" he drawled before heading for the beam. There was much grunting, cursing, muscles straining, and a thin layer of sweat on his body as he worked.
All in all, not a bad picture.

Amphi looked back at Roch and smiled brightly at him. She took the vest that was thrown at her and folded it in her lap. The skeletons just hooted with laughter as the boil went to work.
"Takin off da clothing, he plan on seducing the mermaid with old gramps of skeletons here. Look at him, never seen so much flesh on a boil before. Back in our day little ghoulie, bones were strong and what got the ladies." The skeleton cackled again, bones rattling.
Amphi just stared up at him and shook her head, she liked Roch's flesh as the skeleton put it. Especially the ripples of muscle as he worked.
She shrugged her shoulders at the comment of encouragement and continued to munch on food. How was the ghoul so lucky to just be sitting here? It was nice though...comforting.
"See now, back in my days, we didn't get the ladies by looking pretty.." Ray Blue began, reminiscing in thought. "We got the ol' fashioned. Swamp dates, fishing dem crawdads out of the waters. Fireflies hanging heavy in the air." The skeleton sat back and sipped his lemonade. "I'm guessing that boil over there sang and woo'd you? Gotta say though, Not hard to be falling for big blues. And mermaids being rare and all." Amphi cocked her head.
It would be funny to tell them that she actually followed Roch around like a little puppy for a very long time.
"Oi boil, the beam is a little crooked..." The skeleton cackled, obviously teasing the reaper.

"I'm thinkin' it's your head that's crooked," Roch called back, grunting as he shoved on the beam to get it straighter. "Y'hidin' somethin' in your skull t'weight it down?"
He was NOT seducing his mermaid--he just didn't want his favorite vest torn if somethin' happened! He could heal his skin, clothing was a different matter. Of course his neck was a bit red--but that could have been because of working.

"Nothing in dis ol' skull but cobwebs and dem little skitters." As such, one did crawl out which had Amphi jumping up in terror. If there was one thing the mermaid did not enjoy...it was skitters. "Now now ghoulie, they just making their home in da head, they got nothing against you so dun you be scared." Nicky cackled and looked around, his head rolling around.
Amphi on the other hand was just....peering at the skeleton to make sure before sitting back down.
And he was seducing Amphi because everytime she looked over, she caught sight of flesh that made her blush. Of course the blushing from either party didn't go missed by the old farts of bones.
"Ohohoho look at dem little lovebirds! Dey even thinking about the ol' romp together when they get out of our hair." The skeleton cackled.
"Too bad we ain't got hair to get out of!" The other snickered. "Oi boil! Your ghoulie makin' dem faces at you behind your back, she looks like she wants to take a bite of dem pink little flesh you got dere." He hooted. amphi's face turned crimson as she looked down.
"Now now Nicky, you making the poor ghoul blush worst. Dun you worry little ghoulie, we jsut teasin' all we got in our old age." He patted the mermaid on the head and smiled. "We ain't get much young company to sit with us..."
Amphi could see why.

Roch finished up working, nailing the beam into place with experience gained from rebuilding the stadiums, and headed for the old skeletons and his ghoulfriend. "Okay, I'm done, where's my seeds?" he asked, noticing how flushed Amphi was--
But she didn't look unhappy. He figured they hadn't been too bad, after all. He reached down, taking his vest back and slipping it on, zipping it up again. Then he took Amphi's hand, hauling her to her feet. "I'm starvin'," he said simply.
