Easy. He'd expected this to be easy, and to an extent it really was. He had however not planned for how...stupid she could be at times. Her responses were so typical, so perfect. Really, she was the perfect practice piece. He could read her facial expressions as easily as his open books. It was just as easy to steer her around and make her think the thoughts he wanted her to.
But things hadn't all been easy. She was moody at times and every once in awhile, she seemed suspicious. It was always easy to calm her and preserve the fantasy. But even he was starting to see the edges breaking down--the glass cracking and the pictures fading.
Horus nuzzled her awake gently, it wouldn't be long now till he dumped her. His experiment and learning was almost done. It was time to discard the piece and move on to the next pawn.

Things were complicated. Well, for the first time in her life Avia felt like she had someone that was just like her. Granted, she had had her sister before, but this was different. She had someone that wanted her, someone that wanted to be with her regardless of blood-relations. Above that, she had also found someone like her. Someone that had been given claws to achieve their means, to be able to get to their loved one regardless of the dire situation. And then there was that little teeny weeny emotional problem... she had gotten attached. No, it was worse than that. She believed that she may have fallen in love with him. Her feelings were her own, and she wasn't ready to share the thought but she wasn't the best at hiding... well anything really. She had never needed to, and had therefore never really learned how. But Horus... he seemed to be hiding something. Avia couldn't pin it down to what or where or when, but she felt like something... something was askew. But even this didn't change her resolve in wanting to do everything right for him. Rousing from her sleep, Avis stretched her neck and yawned before opening her eyes to look somewhat dreamily up at her clawed prince. She loved this moment of every day recently. She wanted to wake up every day like this. "Mmmyesss?"

Horus watched as she stretched out, her claws moving against his skin gracefully. Her luminous grey eyes were looking up into his as she murmmured the same word she had every morning recently and for some reason--he hated it. He hated that look of adoration on her face, the way she trusted him so completely and entirely.
He was bored of her. She wasn't useful anymore...well she was useful for something, he couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. She was useful in that area at least. But well, he could get that elsewhere...though he did rather.
He furrowed his brow, there was something about her that was quite...interesting, but in this moment he couldn't remember what it was. He kept his voice light and playful, "Good morning beautiful."

Her muzzle broke into a wide, honest smile. "Good morning, handsome!" Bright and cheery as the day was around them, Avia was looking forward to another perfect day. So far, it was going according to plan, as far as she could tell anyway.
The last few days had gone by in a flash, but she was under the impression that this was only the beginning of the rest of her life. She would have loads of time to relish Horus' company, and she didn't see anything threatening to shorten that. In one word: she was naive.
For once in her life everything was going the way she wanted it to, so she wasn't there to question it or exert caution. Why would she have to?
The pale mare slowly stood up, stretching her front limbs, then her back ones, gave Horus a nuzzle and then began a pace around the cave to stretch out her wings and back as she idly took another look around Horus' home. Calling over her shoulder she asked, "Any plans for the day?"

Horus stood up slowly. There was something faintly reminiscent...But he let it go. "Oh, well lots of stuff to do today." But she wasn't going to be any part of them. Or maybe he'd let this go a few days longer. He couldn't make up his mind quite.
He watched as she moved and he felt himself twitch nervously, "What are you doing over there?" She was close...so very close to his books. He didn't want her touching them. He felt a flash of anger that seemed to colour his vision.
"Get away from there!" He'd never once lost his cool until today.

Avia nodded along, stuff to do today was good, she was ready to begin the day and get going, to go and do something. But just as she was about to ask what was first on the agenda the stallion snapped at her, asking what she was doing. Turning her head to look at him she was about to reply with 'Just stretching out, dear,' but as she took another step he snapped once more, harshly this time, and that caused her a mild panic.
Her wings snapped down to her sides and her tail lashed out as her hind claws pushed her forward a step or two, away from the things behind her. But her tail wasn't quite as deft as the rest of her, and in the moment of blind panic, it had managed to swipe a few things into toppling the short distance to the ground. She whinnied as she sidestepped once more, to get out of the way of the items. What had she done?!

Horus watched as she jerked. He knew he was scaring her, but it didn't matter. Her tail swished, and down cascaded his books along with other things. He felt his fury rising. The stupid clumsy mare was bringing down his best guarded secret.
He tried to control his rage, but his ears laid back and his teeth became more prominent as he stared at her. "Why are you messing with my stuff?" He moved forward his claws digging into the earth as he stared down at her.
His claws swiped up his book and pulled it to him, "Stupid mare..." He let out a little hiss.

She shrank back another step and shuffle when he strode towards her, anger practically steaming off of him. Grimacing, Avia tried to make herself as small as possible. She had never seen Horus angry, and it came as a bit of a shock to her, especially when he insulted her. He'd never done that before, either!
"I'm so sorry, Horus, I didn't mean--," she stopped apologizing abruptly when her eyes fell on what she had knocked down. Her beloved stallion was holding a book. A very particular book. It was her book. One of them, in any case, but her eyes had gotten stuck staring at it for a few moments before she tore her gaze away to look up at Horus in a strangely calm tone. Curiosity spoke out first, "Where did you get that?" Her eyes were wide, but the fear had washed away as she stood up taller and asked her question outright, his anger forgotten or irrelevant to her anymore. She needed to know.

Horus was surprised when her head got straighter, and her body taller. He'd never seen her so assertive. There was something alluring about it...maybe she would be worth keeping around a little longer. He hadn't broke her yet, that was apparent.
"What?" He smoothed out his voice as best as he could, but the anger was till there just beneath the surface. He clutched the book tighter, "It was a gift. Not that that matters to you. I've had it for years. And you shouldn't be messing with it, you can't even read it." He smiled at the little barbed comment. He knew that only he could read it.

She watched him keenly, eyes narrowing to show that she didn't like the words he was saying. She wasn't about to say she didn't believe him, but she wasn't convinced. Emboldened by having tread on something that he was trying to hide Avia took a step closer.
She saw his claws grip the book harder as she continued, "Who gave that to you? I know that book. And the others," glancing back over at the other books, a few of which she also recognized, and her voice grew bolder, still surprisingly calm but it was losing it's curiosity. It was inching towards becoming a demand. Her lip almost snarled at the comment about reading them, but she tossed her head to get her damned mane out of her face as she turned back towards Horus, expecting a response.

His voice was cool, cold as she spoke. "How do they know they're yours? You can't read their names." He laughed bitterly. "They were gifts given to me when I was taken in. Stolen from a stupid little filly that almost peed herself when Brutus and Grauen Kerze took them from her by force."
He looked up and down coarsely, "So you're that stupid little filly aren't you? Haven't changed that much, have you?" He laughed loudly, "There's only one thing you're good for...and other mares are better at that too."

She stood still through the repeated comment of her inability to read the books, and even the first comment about the filly being stupid only made her flinch, but that was the extent of her control. The mention of the monsters that had practically knocked her unconscious to get the books away from her made her eyes flare up not dis-similarly to Grauen's greedy ones in her past.
Her heart pounded and her nostrils flared as he got the other insults out but by the end of his last sentence she had dug her claws into the ground deep and lunged at the stallion, claws reaching for his face. Snarling wildly, the mare pounced in her blind rage and wanted nothing more than to tear at this b*****d with her midnight talons.

Horus was taken back with her sudden rage. Her talons ripped off his glassed and torn a bloody line down his eye and over his cheek. He didn't move at first, trembling with fury. Moving forward, he pushed her back in the corner as best he could before swiping out hard at her with both his teeth and claws. His wings were whipping to confuse her, to tear at her in his rage.
He growled as he backed up, ready to survey his damage. Who did she think she was to act that way to him? He could feel the blood pouring into his eye.

Raging as she was, she was smaller, lighter than Horus and could do nothing to prevent him backing her into the corner. She retaliated with slashes of her own, but she was no match for the larger stallion. Her wings, small as they were, managed to fend off any serious wounds to her neck or side, but she was covered in decent sized scratches. Nothing was terribly deep, but there was blood just about everywhere.
When he drew back from her the mare's eyes had welled up with inky black tears. Her claws connected with the ground once more as they poured down her cheeks. There was no use in her fighting, she didn't stand a chance. And she couldn't risk getting any more hurt. Not now.
Raising her eyes upto the livid stallion she saw the damage she had done. She had torn into his flesh, blotting out one eye entirely with blood. What had she done... She gagged, her face turning a slight shade of green. This was her beloved stallion, her prince... and she had leapt at him blindly. He had no right to say those things, but she felt defeated. She shouldn't have lunged at him, it didn't benefit either of them to be scratched up and bloody. She gagged again, and attempted to scramble out of the cave, past the stallion so as not to pass up her last meal in here.
