 It was early in the morning that he came over for the duel. He knew there would be hopeful rogues about, wanting to fight their way into the pride. On one paw (the mangled one), Yayuka thought it was good that they'd have more troops, in case it were necessary. On the other, he wondered how long they'd be able to sustain such growing numbers.
But it wasn't his place to judge this, while it was his job to challenge hopeful rogues. Besides, it could be just as good for him as it was for them! Yayuka approached the designated area and looked around. This time he hadn't been told to fight anyone specific, but someone would probably pop out soon enough. He was quite a sight to be seen coming up over the hill, what with the rather ugly, scarred up (but fully functional!) paw and missing ear.

 Indeed someone was waiting for a challenge in. The simple fact that this pride required a fight to gain citizenship was enough to get Aquila all fired up and ready to go- it was proof that only the worthy were able to be members! It would be a lie to say she wasn't a little bit nervous- she always was before any "battle," but she had learned over the years how to tame it and how to use it.
A small smile creased her muzzle as she saw a darker form crest the hill. She looked up to the stranger respectfully and nodded slightly as he approached. "The name's Aquila, and I'm ready to duel my way in if you are willing to accept it!" Excitement boiled in her stomach- she'd been waiting for this for a while...

Oh, that was fast! He made his way down the hill, because it was hardly the sort of location to have a fair fight. He didn't reply outright, rolling his shoulders briefly before nodding. Right, okay. Time to do this!
"Alright then, Aquila!" He stood before her, as ready as he'd ever be. "You may start whenever you want." In retrospect, maybe that wasn't too good an idea. But oh well!

"Very well then," she called as she paced slightly to her right for a step or two, she hoped he would expect an attack from that side, so she then quickly changed direction and attacked coming from her left. Hopefully the element of surprise would be with her- she was grateful for all of the training she'd done with herself to give her body the ability to actually pull off the move.
She went to give her opponent a full-body shove from that direction. She wasn't sure of the affect, but she gave it all the force she could muster.

The deception worked in her favor. Yayuka saw his mistake a bit too late, and immediately felt frustrated with himself. And sore, because this lady hit hard! He huffed and was forced to stumble to the side.
In the head of the moment he tried to swipe at her, an admittedly poorly balanced and timed attack; it had been more of a reflex than anything. And it ultimately failed, because he found that his paw didn't quite hit anything he'd like it to. Not a good start for him!

She dipped her head from his paw swipe, avoiding it. She might have expected it- it was difficult to determine. Sometimes her own reactions were automatic. But that was besides the point- she had knocked his balance off, now what? Aquila quickly had to make up her mind, but it took her a moment to decide what action to take! She decided to take a swipe at him with a paw, claws in, but her attack came perhaps too late.

It did come in a bit late. He managed to avoid a strong hit, and the paw more or less glanced off his side. He barely felt it, and pressed on, making a tight turn to try and swing around and catch her with a far-better aimed swipe of his good paw. Even though this attack was much better planned, and they were very close to each other, Aquila might just be a bit faster than Yayuka would like.
Eh, you win some, you lose some!

Aquila almost didn't see the paw swipe coming at her- almost. She managed to miss it by pulling her head back- it almost hurt her neck to pull back as far as she had to to avoid the attack. Distance, she thought, I need more distance, definitely. While she had had an advantage, having knocked the other off-balance, he had regained his footing and they were more or less back on equal terms. She quickly began to put just enough distance between the two of them, never once taking her eyes from her opponent.
The key was to be within attacking range- a strong attack wouldn't be too effective if she was too close! Her tail flicked lightly as she put herself into a balanced stance, pondering whether she should attack next, or if he would.

He had hoped to keep her from getting away and grabbed at her hind paws just as a cub might try to catch a moth. It didn't work, though. Yayuka was feeling a little frustrated whit his failure, but what was there to do? He had to soldier on, of course.
Not wanting to give her too much time to think, he went after her, hoping he'd be able to land a hit or at least counter-attack any incoming blows.

Aquila praised herself briefly in her head at successfully distancing herself from him- despite his attempts, she successfully gave herself enough room to move more comfortably. She was glad, too, that she had put herself in a proper stance- when his attack came she was prepared for it. She successfully sidestepped the attack and watched him pass her by her side. She started to turn while he yet had momentum past her, and took a swipe just before his hip- where the ribcage ended. She hoped that this blow would hit fur and flesh, but she felt like she had made a good move.

It did hit, and it was uncomfortable for him. Okay, it hurt. Yayuka would not complain, at least not while in the presence of anyone, or out loud. He grunted at the impact, which prevented him from stopping nicely considering he had been more-or-less airborne when hit. He managed not to get too tripped up that he fell over or anything that dramatic, but stumbled a bit. He wasn't even in a good position to attack now, but whirled around to defend himself and block anything more serious.

Aquila was glad to have her attack land- it probably hit harder than she meant for a duel, but at least it connected! She found that it had knocked him off balance, and she intended to use that again to her advantage- she needed to take every opportunity she could! She prepared herself for a launch at him, aiming for a leg, but she could tell she might be a little off course just a touch too late- she was already airborne. She could only hope to swivel and defend herself as soon as possible when she landed.

He didn't try to attack again, once he found he was safe. Yayuka took a few paces backwards, just to distance himself from this fight before stopping and nodding. Yep, this was done. Thankfully, that last blow did hurt quite a bit, and thought he wouldn't complain, he'd rather avoid another one of those. Fighting was something they had to do, and be good at. But that wouldn't be the reason he'd go about unnecessarily experiencing pain!
"You fight very well." He said. "You are fit to join the Motoujamii." and he angled his body slightly, to indicate she could walk past him and deeper into the desert, should she want to.

She landed and swiveled, ready to defend herself, but she found the guard unnecessary. They were through here, with the duel at least. "Thank you very much," she said with a small and respectful nod. She was glad that she had had the opportunity, she always felt excited to have a fight- it sharpened both who participated, and always made both stronger. "I am honored to have been able to duel with you!" she said honestly. "But... I do believe I should know your name," she said, taking a couple of steps forward to catch his name as she passed. On the surface she kept a cool appearance, but inwardly, she was giddy from his words- glad that she had proven herself worthy to more than one firekin!

Though Yayuka was a little disappointed with his own performance, he really was pleased with hers, and was happy to let her through. The firekin could always use quick, strong soldiers! "The honor was mine!" He grinned.
"The name is Yayuka." He said with a last nod as she passed. He wouldn't follow her, and would probably linger around here and see if anyone else was looking for someone to duel.
