 Duskback couldn't really help himself today- he was out of it. For whatever reason, the wild dog really didn't sleep well last-day. It was rare for him, and frankly, he couldn't figure out why it had happened. He tried to shake it off, though- he shouldn't fret about it. Worrying about it wouldn't help at all... And it would make him make--- Another mistake!
"Ugh, this is the third time tonight," he said frustratedly, watching yet another rabbit bound away from him. His mouth grew tight in frustration as he watched that potential item escape, wishing that he could find a way to make his general sleepiness leave him be for at least the duration of a successful hunt- it had caused him a couple of errors already! "I need a break, maybe," he said to himself as he started to pad away from the center of the pack's lands closer to the outskirts. He knew a spot out there were the grass was perfect and there were sufficient rocks and trees. The wild dog had spent more than his fair share of days out there training- mostly learning how to hop from the ground to the rock, back to the ground in an almost-sideways direction. He figured it trained muscles that didn't usually get a workout, and should something ever happen, he'd be glad he had those muscles. He smirked slightly to himself as he saw that rock materialize on the horizon.

 It had been a marvelous day. The area in which his den was located in a perfect spot for rest and the quiet was most welcome. Dief stretched his body lazily and groaned when some bones popped back into place. Scouting was his job, but today one of his friends took over for him so he could hunt and store up for the winter. His nose twitched as a stray breeze blew a scent across his position. Rabbit, his favourite. They were tricky little things to catch but well worth the effort to get.
Brown eyes narrowed as he spotted the lone rabbit and got into a running stance. He had to be quick or he would miss out on a meal. 3...2...1! He dashed forward and ended the others life with a quick snap, it wouldn't due to prolong the death that wasn't how he was. Survive and take what you need was also another motto of his.
With prey in his mouth Dief set a steady pace towards home to store a bit of the rabbit. A slight movement caught his eye though and distracted him from continuing on. Another wild dog, male like himself, was somewhat wobbling towards the direction of the tree grove. "You alright?" He spoke once he put down his meal.

Duskback's ear twitched as he heard a voice to his side. He turned to see another packmember and decided to go have a conversation rather than simply answer and continue on his way. No, that wouldn't be the way to treat another of his pack. "Ah, I had hoped it wouldn't be so obvious," he said with a grin as he approached the other, sitting down and yawning. "I'm fine, though, I just really didn't sleep at all yesterday," he explained with a nod, "but that's still no excuse." The final bit was a little jab at himself- perfection in every moment was always Duskback's goal. Days like today drove him crazy, he had to overcome the sloppiness he'd had today.
"Thank you for asking, though!" He said. While he had seen the other dog around, he wasn't sure of his name. He had a feeling, but it wasn't good to presume. "I'm Duskback, by the way" he told his packmate with a nod.Tara de Draiocht Tag! Sorry I didn't get to it yesterday- I had a family visitor and then I had a migraine. D8

Dief tilted his head quizzically as he didn't understand what the big deal was, but he mentally shrugged it off. "Well, if you need something to help you have a good rest I do know of some herbs that could help you rest. Nothing too bad or um," He pawed his ear uncomfortably. "-something that would induce an unbalanced equilibrium. Ah yes, nice to meet your acquaintance as well Duskback. I am Honorablelaw or Dief." He turned his head towards the sun after nodding his greeting. "It looks like another hot day in the PekeNa lands. Good thing we have all these trees around us for shade."
He eyed his kill before looking at the male wild dog narrowly. Signs would indicate that the other was not only lacking in sleep but also hunger as well. Dief felt it was his moral duty to make sure other pack members were taken care of along with himself. " Would you like some of my meal? There is plenty enough for two."

Duskback laughed at the way Honorablelaw put it- he couldn't help that. "I suppose I could use some of those herbs, then... Would it be too much trouble to ask for some help?" He hated being reliant on someone else, especially if it meant that they were to go out of their way. He must seem pretty pathetic, to need to accept so much help, even if it was from a packmate.
"I'm sorry for this," he said sheepishly. "You don't need to do that, but, I guess if you're offering a little..." he sat back on his haunches and kept his eyes on the other packmate. "I'll be certain to pay you back, Honorablelaw," he said, making a firm mental note. He wouldn't want to forget an act of charity, something he felt needed to be repaid in time.

Dief wagged his tail in a content motion and smiled. "No trouble at all Duskback. This situation has no need for paybacks. I am simple giving you what is needed for the survival of the pack. I'm sure others would have done the same in my stead." He pawed his kill in order to move it closer to the male wild dog. "Enjoy. It still is fresh as I just recently killed it. Plans for the day?"
He was trying for some small talk, it was to get the others mind of packbacks, etc. Dief afterall didn't need a tit-for-tat exchange, he simply did it because he wanted too. No rewards needed. Panting he shook himself, it was getting really hot out and the water over to the left was looking good by the minute. "Do you mind if I take a dip? I... don't do well in hot weather."

"Well, I'm grateful," he said honestly, sitting down near the kill and beginning to pick away at it. Perhaps the food would make his day go a little smoother already. As he ate it, though, he too could feel the effects of the sun on his pelt- he could feel where his spots were because they were cooler than the rest of his pelt. Duskback began panting between every bite, and started pondering the same before his packmate suggested it.
"I don't mind at all," he said, taking down one last bite of the delicious rabbit and licking his lips to clean them. "I don't mind at all- I'll go with you, if you don't mind? I'm the same way, and it is warming up..." normally he would be asleep by now, but he just couldn't do it today... It was an annoying trend for him. A dip sounded perfect.

"Hmm," Dief nodded pleased to see the other was eating and somewhat concerned by the panting. "If you be so kind as to follow me. I know the perfect spot-" He had an interior motive behind him leading the other male to the area. Not only was there water but there was also those plants that helped one sleep. "-and it shouldn't take to long to get there at all. It has the most relaxing atmosphere I have come across in all my travels." While he swimming Duskback could take a much needed nap in the shade.
With a flick of the tail, he assumed Duskback was following, Dief began at a slow even trot. The sun was out in full force and he himself was beginning to pant. A few miles passed by before he came to a stop. "There were are." He said outloud for the benefit of Duskback while taking him the waterfall, plants, trees, and grass. "Beautiful isn't it? A little paradise."

Duskback thought he might know where they were going- he had been raised here after all- but he wasn't aware that some of the plants there were the herbs Honorablelaw had spoken of. "I thiiiiink I know where you're talking about," he admitted to the lighter dog as they padded along together, keeping up beside his packmate. Though, as they neared the spot, he wasn't sure... He didn't remember the sight- perhaps it wasn't where he had expected.
"Yeah, it's really nice," he said. He felt relaxed, and he also felt no need to restrain himself. "Well, why wait? he asked, looking Honorablelaw in the eye with a grin before taking off break-neck and leaping into the water, making as big of a splash as he could. He still had a hint of pup in him, he guessed. The water was cool and crisp- it's taste was wonderful and clear. He made a mental note of how he got here- this definitely wasn't the spot he'd had in mind.

"Why wait indeed," He murmured to himself watching as the other male jumped in the water clearly enjoying himself. Sometimes life... was too short, it all comes down to enjoying things while you can. A smile graced his face before he too jumped into the water and swam. The water certainly was refreshing and he huffed in pleasure as it cooled down his body. He splashed, chased, and swam for a time with Dusk before his energy was starting to fade a little bit.
"I don't know about you, but I'd say this calls for a nap." Even as he said those words he felt his eyelids drooping. He was relaxed and calm, it was the perfect time for rest. He lazily swam to the shore and shook the water from his fur. He turned to make sure the other male was following. "This spot looks good." He gestured towards a grassy area with plants surrounding there was also a tree that shaded the area. He gracefully slipped into a lay down position with a yawn. The sounds of the breeze rustling the grass and trees made him even more sleepy. The shade gave enough cover where the sun wasn't too hot, and the sounds of his companion nestling down beside him helped settle his restlessness. His vision began to darken and the sounds of the world around him carry him off to the dream world.

"Yeah, me too," he said, sleep finally starting to creep into his joints and behind his eyelids. He swam along and reached the shore, shaking the water off his fur. "Yes it does," he said, nodding in agreement. He'd had a good time, even though his sleep was a little off. He gratefully laid down in the plants and slipped into sleep- no herbs needed.
