Rolling to see who will go first 1 Simonides, Mercury 2 Claude, Pluto Feel free to rp as usual randomizing betweeen 1 and 3 for each post, or to pre roll the results and go back and fill the posts in after the fact.Rolling reference for ease* For every post in a battle thread make sure you randomize between 1 and 3. The number you get will determine what happened during that turn. 1 - Uh oh, looks like you missed this time! 2 - Yay a hit! Your opponent should subtract 1 hp in their next post. 3 - Excellent hit! Your opponent should subtract 2 hp in their next post. * Keep track of your HP on the top of each post you make please! When someone reaches zero the battle is over. (You can post once or twice more if you'd really like the two to wish each other well or what not) If the dice decide to be jerks and the battle just keeps going on and on and on I may step in and ask for you guys to roll dice for some outside event to help out. Hopefully it won't be necessary

Simonides - 5/5hp Simonides pushed her glasses up higher on the bridge of her nose and took in her opponent. A fellow four eyes yes, but she wouldn't go lightly on him. Fencing was such an elegant sport, she felt. Perfectly suited for, of course, yours truly. Trying not to look too smug, she lifted her sword, and stepped into position. The first thrust came quickly, and with no hesitation.

The blow hit Claude rather harder than he would have liked, really. It sent him back a few steps, and took the breath out of him. "To be so cruel to such an old man," he jested lightly, righting himself. "Have you no respect for your elders?" He lunged in turn, and while his hit was not nearly as effective as her's, it did land a decent blow. Maybe his age was getting to him more than he'd thought.

Simonides - 4/5hp Simonides raised her eyebrows at the joke as it flew neatly over her head. "Sir, I am treating you as a fellow Knight and defender of the cosmos! To do otherwise would be an insult to both you and your order. I can only assume you will do the same honour to me." Wrinkling her nose in concentration, she gave a small noise of impatience as she took a hit herself, and missed with her next lunge.

Claude rolled his shoulder, barely missing the next blow. "I didn't mean to offend you," he muttered, nearly knocking his glasses off in the process. "It was merely in jest, Lady." He stepped to the side, a little put off by the offence taken by his opponent. It made him lunge perhaps too quickly, and he missed his mark.

Simonides - 4/5hp "It is always better in my opinion, to save jokes for the dining-table, and focus on what is at hand during a battle." As if to prove her point, she landed another hit on the older man. It was not as clean and sweet as the first, but it emphasized her point. She always found banter during combat to be a little morbid.

Claude winced, losing his balance for a moment. "As you wish, my lady." He bowed as best he could considering how out of breath he was. Maybe she was right. He was only wasting breath, after all. And the way things were going now, Claude would need every last bit of air he could get. As if to point a finer point on his condition, he missed yet again. Claude fought another curse.

Simonides - 4/5hp Her nose twitching again, Simonides attempted another jab, only to bounce harmlessly off his own sword. Ah well, at least he seemed to be taking combat a little more seriously. Perhaps he would put up a little more fight now, or perhaps ... she tried to ignore the fact that he was already breathing heavily. Surely he wouldn't have entered this competition if he was that out of shape. Uncertainty travelled down her arm and into her blade.

The blocked blow boosted Claude's confidence. Enough so that he could finally regain a footing he was sure of. It feel good, better than Claude expected, to feel ground beneath his feet that her was sure wouldn't slide out from under him again. Something he appreciated for only a moment before he landed his first, substantial blow.

Simonides - 2/5hp This time the restrained noise that piped out of Simonides was of surprise as she took a step back. It was either that or risk having her sword knocked out of her hands. So he wasn't just some old fool messing around, it seemed. Invigorated yet still slightly rattled, she pressed home again with another light hit.

Old fool? Perhaps. Claude had been known for some rather strange tendencies. But messing around? Claude didn't mess around. Ever. Jested, yes, but only for a moment. And it was proven when he landed his final blow, finishing the battle. Barely. He ended up leaning heavily on his sword, panting again. "You should be proud. I'm old, but I'm not unfit." He held out his hand. "I pity the fool who ends up on the wrong side of your sword for real."

Simonides - 0/5hp Gently fanning herself with one hand, Simonides stood down. Enough hits had landed on her for the fight to be over. Smarting slightly, and ahem, glowing from the physical exertion, she nevertheless took his hand and beamed politely back. "It certainly was a close call, but you do seem to know your way around a blade. Congratulations, and I'll be certain to cheer for you in the next round sir....?" It was a question, as in her excitement to begin, she had completely forgotten to check the name of her opponent.

"Claude. Claude will do fine." And a good sport to match her skill with the blade. "I'll be cheering for you as well, in whatever even I see you in. I hope to compete again sometime as well. Simonides, right?" Claude had retained the name only because it sounded so unique. So pleasant to say, such a nice name. "And good luck to you in the future."
