Manga does not have a naturally strong presence, neither in appearance nor personality. In fact, were it not for her taste in clothing, she would simply be another face in the crowd. She is rather quiet and goes unnoticed unless she makes the effort to make herself known. This suites her tastes well, as she prefers using stealth and wit rather than brute strength to achieve her goals.

[Merchant Mentality]
The majority of what Manga does has a purpose and is beneficial to her. She will often reach out to assist others, but there is, more often than not, a reward involved. She keeps in mind the prices of both material items and the information she handles as she conducts her business, and she will haggle prices as much as others will allow. Although she is honest in her dealings, she does not allow sentiment to interfere with her trade. Despite her generally weak presence, she has learned how to make herself known when she wishes to be noticed.

[Mum's the Word]
She has an air of secrecy around her. She never speaks about herself, never reveals her methods, and--above all else--never reveals her sources. Her manner of dressing reflects her secretive behavior, as her face is usually masked and layers of clothes hide most of her body. While conducting business, Manga is the epitome of calm--or at least she appears to be. She has trained herself to conceal her emotions behind a stony expression and keep her voice level when dealing with others, namely clients and potential clients.

[Forever an Artist]
Manga always has something artistic on her person. Whether it's painting, sketching, or sculpting, it is an extremely rare sight to see her void of artistic equipment. Often she uses visual aids (usually sketches) in favor of verbal description when relaying requested information. She also keeps an eye on her surroundings, taking note (either mentally or physically) of every detail she can.

Background:
Manga that was born and raised among a well-known but secretive clan commonly called the Artists. They were a clan who specialized in intelligence, collecting information as they went about their cover jobs with extreme precision. Painters, sculptors, musicians, actors ... if there was a job that could be tied to the arts, there was bound to be an Artist who specialized in it.

Manga's father, a traveling book merchant, raised her and her three older siblings the best he could without the presence of their mother, who had vanished without a trace when Manga was only three years old. She learned quickly how to count money, and then was taught to read and write. By watching her father and her eldest brother work, she began learning how read people as well: to recognize their emotions through their body language.

Manga was not completely deprived of a childhood. She would play games with the local children as their parents shopped and learned new tricks and games from her brothers. Her sister, the closest thing Manga had to a mother figure, taught her how to cook and other more "ladylike" activities.

The happy times ended when Manga was 12. The kingdom that they were conducting business in had a very superstitious royal family. They believed that the the seven deadly sins were reincarnated within each new generation and needed to be sacrificed to preserve peace. Manga was identified as the reincarnation of Wrath, and was taken away to be sacrificed with six other children her age. Her captors stripped her of her name--instead calling her Child of Wrath--and had "Sin" branded onto her back to ensure that if she were to escape, she could be found again.

But she was not sacrificed; she and the other children hatched an escape plan, and the seven of them fled. However, upon their escape they discovered that the families of the "sins" had been wiped out; the zealous queen had ordered a purge to rid the kingdom of their "sinful houses." All the family Manga knew was gone, and she had no way to contact the rest of her clan.

Through extensive planning and several close calls, the seven fled the kingdom altogether and went their separate ways, discarding their old names and starting new lives where they (hopefully) wouldn't be hunted.

She was seventeen when her travels brought her to the floating island and settled in the Middle Circle. However, the walls of Avandere proved too stifling for the merchant's daughter, and she soon resumed traveling.
