Ofelia didn't want to think about what happened during the fight with the dragon - she didn't want to think about how easily Rue had turned and struck down a fellow weapon to pass on a status that they could have easily overcome. Sure the fire had burned and scared her, she could feel the shield melting around her and she knew that Rue was feeling it too, but to just strike at someone else in an effort to see if the fire could come off?
What if it hadn't come off? What if she'd just struck at someone else in order to get away with it, to use it as an excuse to injure someone and live her life guilt free of it? Inside her head Rue was silent, just as silent as she had been as soon as her time in the golem was over, and even though Ofelia demanded as many answers as she could there was no sign of getting a response. The weapon merely cackled whenever Ofelia pleaded or begged and the teen was starting to get paranoid over it. This was horrible, and before Ofelia even knew what she was doing she found herself wandering around inside the town.
She. . . had only been into the town once before, with Eva during her first time there, so it was no surprise that Ofelia was now lost.
. . . and without her cellphone.
....craaaap.

The conversation had gone something like this.
"Can I - "
"No."
"If I could just - "
"No."
"But really, why won't you - "
"Go away."
The lab tech, who had been eyeing Gale's sandwich for the past fifteen minutes, had given a disgruntled sort of scowl and stalked off. Gale, uncaring that he had taken the last edible lunch from the cafeteria (the lunch lady had finished making the meals for the afternoon and had refused to make more until tomorrow), wrapped up the sandwich, tucked his book under his arm, and filled a disposable cup to the brim with hot earl grey tea. He then made his way out of the cafeteria, down the hall, and back towards the towns, intent on having a very nice quiet afternoon to himself.
Really, he could use it after being set on fire by that ridiculous, Insanity-ridden dragon. Just the thought of it made Gale angry, so he pushed it from his mind and made his way down the deserted streets towards his little house.
The deserted streets that apparently weren't as deserted as he had first thought. There was a redheaded figure standing at the crossroads between two streets, looking utterly bewildered, and as Gale blinked in surprise, he recognized her.
"Ofelia?" he said, in a clipped British accent. "What are you doing out here?"

She was going to starve and die out here, forever alone surrounded by a sea of dilapidated buildings.
. . . though one of those houses looked nice, maybe she should consider moving into it.
. . . though that would involve effort, money, and other things Ofelia didn't happen to have. Plus with Rue she was something of a pariah right now, maybe. That whole setting Otto on fire was bad juju.
She was content to settle into her own thoughts about being forever alone in the city of the damned (her own calling for it) when she thought she heard a voice behind her pipe up and speak her name. The appropriate response?
"Eeeeek!" A rather girly and high-pitched shriek escaped her lips as the teen was startled, her whole body jumping enough that she could have sworn she left the ground. Fight or flight took effect and Rue was instantly summoned as the teen turned, ready to face whatever it was that had called to her. That whatever it was happened to be Gale. "Oh. . .Gale."
This was awkward. An weak and clearly embarrassed chuckle escaped her lips as her cheeks blazed red, and as Ofelia moved to rub the back of her neck Rue was dismissed just as quickly as she'd been pulled. "Ah uh . . . . got lost." That wasn't a lie at all so she didn't feel bad admitting it. "Jus' happened ta be walkin' 'round an' ended up here wit'out knowin' where Ah was goin'." She shrugged and weakly chuckled again, looking away. "What bring ya out'ere? Goin' home?"

She was pointing her weapon at him. Why was she pointing her weapon at him.
He didn't move, however, or jump backwards, and if he was surprised that she was on the defensive, nothing in his face showed it. All Gale did, in fact, was raise a brow, tilting his head a little as he lifted his cup of tea and took a sip.
"Hey, Ofelia," he said casually, as though she had not just tried to attack him. "You okay? You look a bit..."
He trailed off, shrugging a little, and tucked the book a bit more firmly beneath his arm so that he didn't drop it. Ofelia's cheeks were a brilliant shade of red, and she seemed more than a little flustered, but Gale tried not to draw attention to it, instead giving her a small nod.
"It's all right," he told her. "I got lost a million times first coming out here."
Giving her a slight smile which was supposed to be encouraging, he nodded his head towards the little yellow house a short distance away. "Yep," he confirmed, and then, after a moment's hesitation, he asked, "Do you wanna come over for a bit? I could make you some tea or some coffee, if you'd like. I don't normally drink the stuff, but somebody (I suspect Eva, or maybe Molly) stashed a bunch of it in my cupboards, and I'm trying to get rid of it."

When it looked as though Gale wasn't going to punch her into the ground for turning Rue towards him (even if had been an accident. . . sort of) Ofelia gave a deep sigh of gratitude and a she grinned faintly, nodding her head. "Tea sounds really good, never been'a fan'a coffee. Stuff wit' too much caffeine was never really allowed in mah house growin' up on account'a mah aunt sayin' it made me crazy 'nough ta hear things." Ofelia chuckled at the memory. "Truth be told Ah heard the voices wit'out the stuff but it was easier ta let her believe sommin' else was wrong." The teen really wasn't a fan of tea either but to completely turn down someone's offer when they were being so kind enough to extend it seemed just plain rude.
Plus she'd threatened him, she needed to show him somehow it wasn't on purpose.
Also maybe Gale would be willing to show her the way home when it was all over because she needed to do laundry later.
"If Ah'd have known Ah would be runnin' inta ya taday Ah'd have brought ya some kinda baked goods. Sort of a super late house warmin' gift coupled with a well done fer gettin' promoted." Gale had been the first person Ofelia properly met at Deus outside of the pod waking and everything else, which sort of made her garner a bit of respect for the tiny Brit.
Also he was tiny and so cute even if he outranked her still.

"Me either," Gale admitted, as he gestured towards the direction of his house and began walking. "I know Kat loves coffee, and I know a great deal of England drinks coffee, but it's just not my thing. Too strong, in my opinion. I like the weaker drink, and tea is somewhat comforting."
The comment about the voices made him turn his head slightly, wondering what exactly she meant by that, but he didn't comment on it, instead letting himself walk on in silence.
Once they reached the house, he unlocked the front door and stepped inside, gesturing for Ofelia to follow him. Setting his tea down on the counter, he bustled around the tiny kitchen, fixing the kettle for tea.
"Ah, no, it's no worries," said Gale, casting a glance over at the redhead. His cheeks were just a bit pink, but he gave her a small smile anyway, looking in one of the cabinets for a teabag.
"How have you been lately? I, ah...haven't seen you in a while."

"It really has been a while, yeah. Been doin' pretty well Ah guess, tryin' ta stay outta trouble. Got mahself ranked up a bit ago, now jus' workin' ta show others Ah guess that Ah'm not so useless." The next bit she mumbled. "Or crazy." she dropped that line of thought there and turned it all back to Gale as best she could. Learning to talk less and less about herself and focusing more on others seemed a good way to stop any and all worries. "How 'bout yerself? Ya were always a cutie since the first time we met but Ah gotta say yer gettin' more han'some." A friendly wink was the tail end of that remark, the whole meaning behind it nothing more than a compliment. Gale wasn't her type in the fact he would never be interested in her, much as all the males of Deus were.
She took the time to glance around the small house, noting how. . . .nice it looked. Ofelia was still living in the commons, hiding from people whenever she needed to move. There had never been a place for her to live, she didn't have anyone to ask, so maybe getting a house like this would be a good idea. Was she too low level though, or would they make an exception? Hard to think, not really ready to ask.
"Tea is good wit' scones. Ah. . .dunno if Ah've made scones since Ah've been here."
Ofelia liked to jump topics like whoa.

"Oh, congratulations!" said Gale genuinely, giving Ofelia a small smile over his shoulder. He pulled down a few cups from the cupboards and busied himself in fixing the tea, turning on the water to let it heat up while he searched for smaller sized plates than the dinner ones he only seemed to acquire. "I'm glad you were promoted."
His cheeks flushed a darker red at the "cutie" however, and he had to resist the urge to defiantly deny that and scowl. Instead, he poured the hot water into the cups and gingerly stuck a teabag in each one. He set the cups on the plates (which were still a little too big) and carried them over to where Ofelia sat, handing one to her.
"I'd rather have scones with it as well," he said honestly, and took a seat on one of the chairs, lifting his cup to his lips and taking a small sip. "But I'm afraid I don't have any scone mix or even anything to make scones with. I'm not exactly the greatest cook, though I don't actually mind cooking that much. I had to do a lot of it growing up, so I'm used to it."

"People use mixes for stuff? Ah prefer ta make everythin' from scratch, s'bit healthier an' Ah can makie it jus' how Ah wanna have it." The teen spoke and rubbed the side of her face with a fingertip, almost as though she were scratching her cheek faintly in thought. The teabag and teacup were taken and set down, either to let them cool or get a dipper seep, and the red-head looked more at her companion.
He'd congratulated her on her rank up, and Ofelia blushed a little there. "Thanks. Ah dunno if Ah feel any different, but Rue's kinda gotten stronger. Her shape changed a lil' bit too, nothin' really major." They'd done well on their spars and other missions, that much Ofelia could properly recall, but that was all she'd say on that subject. Maybe it would be good to spin it back to Gale, keep the focus on him. The teen's goal was to learn more about others, to make more friends. "How 'bout yer weapon? Any changes there? Ah know ya gotta have gotten stronger, an' ya were always amazin' b'for."

By the end of Ofelia's words, Gale was flushing a deep red. Insults, snide comments about his age and his height, taunts, was what he was used to. Compliments of any form he was not, and it made him feel vaguely uncomfortable and confused all at the same time.
"I'm not...that amazing," he mumbled, taking a sip of tea and looking embarrassed. "I just...do what I'm told, is all. There's not much more to me than that, I'm afraid. I'm just a regular guy."
<< Regular guys don't go around hunting monsters. >>
Hush, you.
"Really," Gale said, his face still in his cup of tea. "I'm not all that interesting."

"Ah dunno, Ah find ya plenty interestin'. A'course Ah tend ta like everyone so ya gotta take mah likes an' dislikes however ya wanna." The teen spoke and shrugged, lifting the cup of tea to her lips to take a timid sip for testing the temperature.
Nope, still too warm. Also, not enough rich flavor.
Now to change the subject, perhaps? Ofelia might have been brash and careless about most things but she was somewhat good at looking at people and seeing how they felt. Of course she wasn't that observant so she tended to get most of her guesses on feelings entirely wrong, but small things she could understand. Like how Gale really didn't seem fit to talk about himself.
So, subject change. "S'nice house ya got here. Ah'm wonderin' if Ah can move inta one mahself, not really likin' mah lack of bedroom." She said, still somewhat mourning the loss of her dorm room. There wasn't anything in there that she couldn't have lived without but it was still a sad loss. "Oh! Also, didja get any'a the brownies Ah gave ta Deryk? Ah'd sort of made 'em as a gift fer all'a ya."

The special place Gale tended to occupy called "Tomatoface Land" was now in full blossom, his cheeks tinged scarlet. He wasn't used to the frank openness Ofelia offered him, free and unhindered by her compliments and her personality. She was just one of those people who said what they thought and there it was.
Which was why, when she changed the subject, Gale was very grateful.
"Ah," he said, with a glance around at the little house. It was hardly bigger than a simple apartment, but it gave him a place to relax and, most importantly, to call his own. "You can pick what you want after you become a full Hunter - house in town, or a bigger room on the second floor." He gave a small shrug. "I was a bit stubborn, I suppose. I like having things to myself, and, well, here we are."
He took another sip of tea and raised his eyebrows. "I don't...think I got any brownies," he said slowly, trying to remember. "Though it's all right if I didn't, I'm not picky or anything."

" . . .what. He didn' share?" Ofelia sounded a little more than surprised, seeing as she kind of thought that Deryk was the type to share. She hadn't eaten all of them during the watching of their video but if Deryk had eaten them all himself then that was totally okay. It just meant that maybe he liked her baking enough to not want to share? Ofelia was going to think that and just move along. "Ah guess that means Ah'll need ta bake ya some."
That ended that line of conversation, so painfully short, and Ofelia was going to say something else when a buzzing came from her pocket.
She ignored it for the moment, and the buzzing passed.
