The blue cerynei mare walked slowly through the woods after leaving the side of her father. She usually wandered away from her family in the quest for knowledge and knew not all knowledge could be gained from being at home. She wanted to explore and possibly make some friends even though her father worried greatly over her this was a learning process. She was already told what she was to do when she was older by her cousin Gabriel and this wasn't a problem for her, but it was overwhelming. She would eventually come to accept it as it was her duty to be what the family wanted and she could always refuse at any point in time. This was something she was happy about. At least her opinion was respected.

As she halted her movements, her black eyes scanned the forest around her for some kind of life. Her body giving off a faint glow as the small rays of sun beamed down on her silky pelt. She was looking for something to entertain her. Her body was telling her to go west, but her mind was telling her to continue on the way she was going. This decision was made in seconds as she continued moving forward wiggling her small stub of a tail behind her every so often.

This was a moment in time where she wished her sister Astraea was with her. At times the two of them were inseparable, but today she was alone.

"Spirits watch over me and protect me from all the evil in this world..Help me be strong and stay on the path of the light."

She said softly under her breath as she slowed her pace. She wasn't afraid of anything and didn't believe evil existed, but not everyone believed in the same things as her.

He was on his own today. Kaliri was off with Falconwing so that their brother didn't become too curious about why he and Kaliri were spending so much time together. They just couldn't afford him finding out about their fort. Even the rest of the herd needed to remain unknowing about that little secret as well. It was actually a fairly fun game to try to keep others away from the fort while still being able to go out there and have fun. While he could have gone out that way today Fairbreeze just didn't see the fun in visiting the fort without his sister, it was their secret and so he decided to go wandering around the herd lands instead.

To be honest he wasn't really sure what to do. There was usually someone else with him, his sister, his brother, various members of the herd so being alone for once wasn't as exciting as he may have first thought it would be. Maybe he could go down to the stream.

Nah. It wasn't much fun there without someone to play with.

Torn on what to do Fairbreeze wandered through the forest, weaving in and out of the trees, not really paying much attention to where he was going.

The young filly looked around a little more after hearing the faint footsteps in the distance. Should she investigate? She wanted a little more company then what she had going for her already so maybe it was the best thing she could do at the moment. She only hoped it wasn't something harmful. Taking the risk, she followed the sound until it was close enough for her to see what was actually there. As she stepped out of the brush, she gave a blank stare at the colt wandering in front of her.

"Are you wandering in search of something as well?"

Her voice echoed out in the silent forest as she stood there almost frozen in time. She tilted her head to the left side giving the other a very small smile that wasn't too noticeable. She was a strange one anyone could see that, but this wasn't going to stop her from being who she was.

"You have feathers..are you part bird?"

She asked curiously straightening her head that once was on a tilt. She moved closer to him taking her time until she got close enough to see the colt's feathered wings a little better. It wasn't something she saw every day since her family was completely wingless. It was interesting to see first hand.

The voice caught him by surprise and for a moment he thought it might have been his sister. But no the voice wasn't right, female but definitely not his sister. The colt spun around to see who it was. His eyes settled upon a blue and white filly, who was of Cerynei blood. Where had she come from? She definitely wasn't part of the herd, but hey maybe this was his chance to meet someone his size. "Oh, hello." He told her with a smile. "Not really." Fairbreeze gave his shoulders a shrug. "I guess I was searching for something to do. My brother and sister are playing together and the rest of the herd is busy, so I'm on my own for now." It didn't really bother him, sure he loved playing with his siblings and the other herd members but every now and then it was nice to get some time away. Plus how often did they get visitors here? Never!

Her question made him almost laugh, but Fairbreeze knew better than to let that happen. Instead he simply smiled while stretching out his wings allowing her to get a better look. "No, I'm not part bird. I'm a Wind. My mother is a Wind with Cerynei blood, and my father is a Wind as well, though his wings are much different than mine. My brother has wings like father does." Falconwing always liked to rub that small detail in, but honestly Fairbreeze didn't care, they all had wings so they could all fly, what the wings looked like didn't matter as long as they worked.

"What were you searching for?" Fairbreeze finally asked. And where were her parents or family? It wasn't all that strange for a foal to be on their own while their parents were not far away but he didn't see any signs of adults anywhere around. Thinking about her parents made him realize the most important lesson his own parents had taught him, and that was his manners. "I'm Fairbreeze." The colt introduced himself with a bow of his head. "Are you and your family visiting these lands or just passing through?"

The blue filly looked over at the colt thinking maybe she could offer him some kind of companionship even if it's just for a short amount of time. Plus from what he said he wasn't doing much at the moment anyway. "Oh..well I'm out on my own as well. I get bored wandering around with family all the time and my siblings are busy. So perhaps you would like some company for a short time? I wouldn't mind someone to talk to." The young filly smiled at the other a very small smile before walking a little bit away from the other. She hadn't met anyone else outside of her family so this was actually her first meeting with someone that wasn't related to her. "You are the only one I have met that isn't related to me." She told him giving a small wiggle of her tail. '

She heard his lineage and tilted her head. "So you have blood like me? I wonder what it would feel like to fly. Can you fly?" She asked tilting her head to the other side before looking away from him into the forest. "It sounds like your family is very interesting. There isn't anything like that in my family. I wouldn't know how to describe mine...they are...interesting." She told him wandering a little farther away from the colt as if she was being drawn into the forest by something.

"I'm not searching for anything...I just like to wander and learn. See things I have never seen before even though I know danger lurks around here." She told him in a soft tone of voice letting out a very soft sigh. "How about we search for something together? Maybe there is something of interest that we just haven't come across yet? You never know what you might find out in the woods." She told him looking back at Fairbreeze with a black expression. "I'm Nidawi." She nodded feeling the need to let him know her name after he let her know his. "We live in the deep part of the woods. Usually we wander around in them and very rarely leave the woods. At least that is what I was told. How about your family? Do they live in this land?" She smiled.

Fairbreeze folded his wings up against his side as he nodded his head. "Sure, I'd like to have some company. Don't get to talk to many others who aren't a part of the herd." A change of pace would certainly be nice, and it would give him something to tell his siblings later on. They would be jealous they he had an adventure with a stranger while they simply played together. A part of him wished they could be here to share in this moment, but surely there would be other times when strangers would come by where they would get to see them and he wouldn't, or they might all get to see them. "I haven't met anyone outside of my family and the herd...other than you of course." They lived in a relatively quiet areas so many travelers passed by with little notice of the herd.

He gave his head another nod. "Yup. My grandma looks a lot like you. Only she's all black with purple markings. But her hooves, tail and ears are the same like yours. Mom looks a lot like grandma, except she has wings, she got those from grandpa. I haven't met my grandpa yet, but they said he has wings." He began following her, she seemed to be wanting to wander off and not wanting to loose a chance to talk to someone new he was obliged to follow. "No I can't fly yet. But I've been practicing. Dad says we won't be able to fly until our wings are stronger, so we try to fly, flapping our wings to build up the muscle." He looked forward to when he could fly, to see what that experience truly felt like. Watching his parents fly it seemed to majestic, so free. "Oh they are fairly interesting." Though the way she described her family as interesting he didn't think it was in the same way his family was interesting. Just what did she mean by that?

"Sure, that sounds good. And we have a better chance of seeing something with two of us looking." He said they continued along. The woods always seemed to hold something to find each day, sometimes it was new, sometimes they were old, but rarely could you find nothing. "You stay in the woods all the time?" He couldn't image it. But then again he had, well would one day have, the freedom to fly so sticking to the woods didn't seem like a good choice for him. "We live here for now with a herd that my family is friends with. My siblings and I arrived before my parents could make it home, they live near where my grandma lives and she comes from quite far away. So we are all staying here until we are old enough and strong enough to fly, then we will go to our real home." Fairbreeze was looking forward to that day, yet he had grown attached to living her and knew leaving would be hard. "We live with Usdia." He stated as an after thought. It wasn't the typical setting for a wind to grow up in, but he enjoyed it all the same.

Nidawi felt a little better about this meeting then before now that she was welcomed as company by the colt. "Same with me. Which is why I think or at least feel like we could get along well. Unless my assumptions are completely wrong that is?" She said in a rhetorical kind of way. She didn't expect an answer back nor did she want one. "Well there seems to be a first time for everything right? Hopefully we could be friends, but that only comes if I trust you." She smiled a little bit to him before tilting her head to the side. "Your not terrifying so it could work.." She told him eying his wings then his face very closely.

Hearing the words about his grandmother made her a little more at ease. He had met someone similar to her and that made her more proud of her lineage then before. "Your family sounds wonderful. I hope you get to meet your grandfather one day. He deserves to meet his grandchild." She nodded thinking a little about her own family and how there were so many 'pure' breeds in hers. "My father is cerynei and I am more like him..my mother is regular, but is pretty blues. I have his physical traits, but her colors. My brothers are a uneven mix of the two." She told him tilting her head as she thought about her family some more. "I have a lot of siblings now...I think...over 10? I can't remember, but there are a lot of us." She told him wiggling her tail a little bit. "Oh well maybe I can see you fly one day?" She asked him giving him another blank stare. She didn't know what it was like to fly, but she would love to see it.

"Yes and maybe something interesting will happen." She shifted a little bit as they walked side by side. "Yes we don't really venture far out of the woods. Is that strange to you?" She asked before looking ahead of them for anything of interest, but keeping her ears locked on the conversation. "Oh I see. That doesn't sound too bad. I can't wait until I'm old enough to travel out of here on my own. I have a big responsibility when I'm older...so I will need to be ready for it." She rambled on a little bit, but then looked over to him with a dumbfounded look a little bit. "What is an usidia? I know of a few of the breeds out there, but I have never heard of that one. Are they interesting looking? Sorry if I'm a little...lost on all this." She asked a little confused.

Fairbreeze had realized almost instantly after meeting Nidawi that she was a little strange but had shrugged it off quickly. Yet everything she said and did reminded him of her oddities. He was suddenly glad his sister was not like this filly, though that wasn't saying he didn't want to spend time with Nidawi, just that she was strange and he was still trying to get used to that. "Right." Fairbreeze said, attempting to follow along with her conversation but honestly he wasn't sure when to speak and when to listen. She had asked a question earlier but he felt it wasn't one to answer so he had let it slip by. He couldn't help but feel the tug of a smile on his lips when she stated he 'wasn't terrifying so their friendship might work', it certainly wasn't something he was told every day.

He listened as she described her family, how she resembled her father in many ways except for having her mothers colors. He honestly would have never guessed that she had regular blood in her, Nidawi looked pure Cerynei to him. But then again, he himself was part Cerynei and didn't show any of it, only his brother did. His jaw dropped a bit at the number of siblings she had. "Ten? You have ten siblings?" He was in awe, here Fairbreeze thought his family was fairly large and yet now it seemed very small in comparison to Nidawi's even larger family. It was hard enough having two siblings some days so he couldn't even imagine what it was like having ten. "Sure, when I'm truly able to fly I could show you." He was a little unsettled by her blank stare but kept that hidden.

"I don't think it's strange." He admitted to her. "I think if you want to spend all your time in a forest that's fine, if you want to live in the meadow and never venture into the forest that's okay too. Not everyone lives in the same way, it makes life more interesting that way." He spent a lot of time out in the meadows but the forest was a place to hide from the heat of the day, play hide and seek with his siblings and sleep at night. His gaze shifted from the area around them to the filly his head tipped slightly at her words. "You have a responsibility when you get older?" He didn't have any that he could think of, so what could this filly possibly have in her future. "Like what?" He smiled a bit as she shared with him that she didn't know what an Usdia is. "Well Usdia are small Soquili, the adults are the size of us foals, maybe a bit smaller, and the foals are even smaller. There are a couple of foals in the herd now and then can run clean under me without even touching my belly." He let out a laugh thinking of all the times Lapin had done just that, Poe on the other had tended to go around not under others. "They come in all different kinds like we do, except I've never seen or heard of any with wings that can fly. One of them, Lapin, she has features a lot like you, she's a Nymph, which is the Usdia equivalent of a Cerynei." His eyes slowly turned back to the trees, if he kept his attention on Nidawi he might miss something of interest as they walked.

Nidawi giggled very lightly and it wasn't a long one. She didn't show her emotions too much and knew that came from her father. "Well not ten...It's me and four other siblings then three cousins. So it's almost ten I guess you could say.." She rambled on a little bit as she thought about each one. It was pretty amazing how quickly everything happened and how fast her siblings developed. She only hoped that when she matured it would be for the better and not the worst. That was a major fear of hers. She didn't want to disappoint the family, but wanted them to respect her and be proud of her. "I would love to see you fly one day. Too bad I won't be able to join you in that marvel. I am restricted to being only a land dweller. But at least I can see things with my own two eyes..so I can't be too unhappy." She said to him feeling no sadness hit her about not being able to fly. It was a gift that some possessed and others didn't.

"You are right. If everyone was the same then life would be boring and there would be nothing to learn from one another." She nodded to him before hearing his question making her turn to him with full attention perking her ears up. "Yes I do. I am to be a future priestess in my family. It's my responsibility and my duty that I have accepted. It's a lot of pressure, but in my family...it's kind of expected. I just don't want to disappoint them." The explanation of usidia kind of confused her, but she expected there to be other breeds or races other then her own. She only wished to meet one someday that would be a very odd experience at least. "I see. I will have to met one some day. They seem like they will be very interesting." She nodded to the colt before looking up to the sky giving it a long stare. "Are you all right with accompanying me?" She asked him turning to look at him.

"It's still a big family no matter how they are related to you." Fairbreeze said with a bob of his head. "I suppose my family is fairly large as well since I consider the Usdia from the herd a part of it, they may not look like family but they feel like it to me." He gave his shoulders a shrugs. Family was how cared for you and who was around for you, after all the herd had raised Mercy who was not one of their blood so why shouldn't he consider them family? Casting his gaze over at the filly Fairbreeze smiled again. "Well I think it would be great if you could come watch me fly, father says it won't be too longer before I can, just need to keep working at it." He paused for a moment before continuing. "Just because you can't go up there with me doesn't mean you can't experience flight, I can tell you all about it, what it feels like, what I can see up there, it will be like you were up there with me."

Wow, she had a fairly special role to fill when she was older. "A priestess sounds very special, though I am sure it will take a lot of hard work." He gave his head a nod. "I bet you will do just fine, no reason to worry about disappointing your family. As long as you do your best they are sure to be proud." It's what would happen in his family and though he knew ever family was different he felt certain Nidawis family would be proud of her as she grew. "Well if you come back to see me fly one day I'm sure I could introduce you to some of them." Her question was unexpected and Fairbreeze stared at her for a long moment before answering. "Of course I'm alright with it. Why wouldn't I be?" He gave his head a shake letting out a slight snort. "If I didn't want to come with you I would have headed home instead of following you. It's nice to spend time with someone outside of my family."

The colt was right and didn't realize how big her family was until she really thought about it. Though she supposed having a big family was a good thing since they would have your back if you needed help, but at the same time would banish you if you made them look bad. There were pros and cons with everything. "Even if something doesn't look like family they can still be that no matter what." She nodded to him and thought about when he would fly if she would even be around to see him. She was going to be on a journey soon when she became an adult so she didn't know if or when this would happen. "Then I hope I can witness it before I leave for my journey because after that I don't know if I will be able to see you fly for a long time." She felt a smile form on her lips when she heard the comment about flight. This was something she definitely wanted to experience. "I will hold you to that." She said feeling like if he did something like that then she wouldn't even need to fly. She would have the experience without even doing the task.

"It will, but I'm going to be as committed as I can be. I don't want to let my brothers and father be disappointed by me, but you are right. I will be fine. I just have to be persistent with it." She gave him another small smile. He was a very interesting Soq and didn't know other Soq were so willing to be so friendly with strangers. “I am happy then that you are so willing to let me stay with you.” She told him keeping a close pace with him. “Are we going on an adventure or just seeing the sights? I think it’s amazing to be out on a nice day like this. Though I think rain is in the future.” She said lightly as she looked up to the sky.
