Aven set the table for dinner, stew bubbled away in the pot on the hearth. The setting sun cast an orange glow through the room. She smiled lightly as she set up the three sets of bowls, glasses and spoons on the table. Calleach was now a young colt, and she had raised him in her home since Devin brought him to her door. In a way she had taken over as the mother. She didn't mind though, she loved Calleach and his father. She paused at the thought. In love with Devin. It was a bit tragic in a way. "Calleach! It's time for dinner, Devin will be here soon!"

Ceallach laughed as he ran into the room and danced around Aven anxiously. "Is he gonna stay this time Momma? I think he wants to stay with us. How come he don't stay with us?" The child had indeed grown into a fine young boy under Aven's guidance. If not a bit excitable and hyper. He slid into his seat at the table and waited with his hands in his lap. "Dinner smells good."
Devin tried to fight to twisting and lurching of his stomach as he walked to the door. As excited as he always was to come here, lately he had been finding it nearly impossible to leave. He wasn't sure he could handle that feeling of near heartbreak much longer. He raised his hand to knock and then waited already imagining the lovely face that would answer. He had grown increasingly fond of Aven, moreso since she had helped him out and taken Ceallach in.

Aven looked at Ceallach and smiled softly. "Why do you keep asking that? I've told you, it's complicated..." When she heard the knock at the door she moved to kiss her son's forehead before going to the door. "Good evening, Devin, come on in." She led him into the kitchen and began to fill the bowls with the stew.

Ceallach waited until Aven had fully left the room before he frowned and wrinkled his nose. "Its not complicated. You love him. He loves you. You both love me. Where is that confusing?"
"Hello again Aven. Dinner smells good." He followed her into the kitchen and kissed Ceallach's head. "How are you squirt?" He watched Aven even as he spoke to the boy, a little unwilling to take his eyes off of her.
"I've been fine Da. How about you?"

Aven sat down in her chair and looked over at Devin. "Well then eat. I've made enough for all of us." She couldn't help but smile at the father and son interacting. Devin had taken leaps and bounds since he had shown up at her door with the new born foal. She was truly proud of him. She tilted her head though as she noticed his gaze. "Is there something on your mind, Devin."

He shook his head and blushed lightly as she caught him staring. "N...no. Sorry. I was just spacing out. How have the two of you been?" He took a bite and did his best to change the subject.

"If you say so... I've been well although, I'm not sure if taking Calleach to the marketplace with me is such a good idea anymore." Aven sent an amused look to the boy and kept eating her soup calmly. She was only teasing of course, but Calleach was a bit hyperactive.

Devon frowned as the young colt just grinned. "Oh? Should I even ask why not?" He sincerely hoped that Ceallach wasn't causing too much trouble for Aven, but on the other hand it was only natural for boys to be rowdy and playful.

Aven laughed and shook her head. "It's not that big a deal. He's a kid after all. He got easily distracted by a sweets shop, is all." The look on Devin's face was rather priceless. "But every thing has been well. What about you?"

"I can't say that I don't have something to do with that. I suppose it doesn't help that I spoil him whenever I can." He smiled and reached out to ruffle Ceallach's hair. "Just promise me you'll behave, eh?" He turned to Aven and his smile softened. "I've been alright. Looking for something to keep me afloat money-wise, but nothing out of the ordinary."
Ceallach smiled and kicked his legs under the table as he looked between them. "We should do this every night. Then you won't have to ask each other how you've been all the time."

Aven smiled lightly at Devin as she ate. "You will have to let me know how that goes." She paused as she heard Ceallach speak up and in spite of herself a soft blush began rising in her cheeks. "We would still be asking some of the same questions, dearest, now please eat your food."

"Like what momma? If we all lived together then you would talk a lot more and you'd be happy!" He smiled and tilted his head to the side innocently, honestly curious as to what she meant.
Devin laughed and shook his head, taking another bite before he opened his mouth and said the wrong things. He glanced up to meet Aven's eyes and shrugged, making it clear that he would leave the conversation to her.

"Caellach, just eat your dinner please..." Aven's cheeks were a bright red now as she began to eat. Her son was being much more mouthy tonight.

"Yes ma'm." He obediently returned to his dinner and stayed quiet for a while. He supposed that he had pushed the subject far enough for the night. He'd try again the next time. With a secretive smile meant only for himself he went back to swinging his legs under his chair, looking up occasionally to the blushes on both of their faces.
After a little more silence Devin looked up and smiled over to Aven. "You two aren't needing anything are you? You've done so much raising Ceallach for me, the least I can do is help however I can."

Aven slowly chewed her food in hopes of clearing the blush from her face and the nervousness in her voice. Devin had calmed down so much more than the sexually driven stallion he once was. In spite of herself it made her fall for him all the more. "Well... I wouldn't know what to ask for really. However, by your son's outburst I would guess a suitable way for you to 'help out' would be to come by more often."
