I actually knew that! *feels all smart* but I just didn't really care, since in this context it doesn't mean the area of India.

Well, he calls his catgut rope the Punjab Lasso. More than likely the noose was picked up from Punjab(i) as some type of traditional weapon.
I think it was just us Phans coining the phrase "I punjab you!" Certainly we did not mean using the people of the Indian region to hang someone.

I did research into this a while ago, and as far as I can tell, it is not a traditional weapon. I think it was only referred to as the punjab lasso because that is where he perfected his skills.
As I mentioned somewhere else; this is another reason I dislike the ALW movie, because they strip years of Erik's travelling from him, by keeping him in the operahouse since he was tiny. Though at least they chopped the line, "The Punjab lasso, Monsieur!" ... mad

Well, I'm no Geographic person, but perhaps he had travelled through Punjab to get to Persia (when it existed) and had picked up the skill of noosing someone from there, or just the preferance. Yeah, Webber makes it seem like he just sat in a cage until some girl came for him. That's honestly lame and insulting to the character.

I'm not being mean. It just bothers me that people rando-post like that here. This isn't the GD...

xd YES. I KNEW THAT.
I was sitting in History class last year, and my teacher started going on about some turn of events in a place called "Punjab." Needless to say, I awakened from the stupor first period History class normally puts me in to question. sweatdrop
Mr. C-F: Yes, so... here, we can see that, in Punjab... Youko: eek PUNJAB?! WHERE?! Mr. C-F: *rolls down world map and points vaguely at northish India* THERE. Youko: FTW. gonk
Yeah. lol

Actually, the Punjab Lasso IS a typical weapon, but Erik used a variation of it. Read this article: http://www.phantomoftheopera.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=64And I thought that everyone knew about Punjab, since the Sikhs (sp?), who live in Punjab, are trying to create an independ country from Paquistan. And, you know, they use the terrorism way... Which means it tends to get a little attention around the world... Anyway, that article is really interesting, *changing topic*

ah, i remember now. it was a version of the book with little sidenotes, and one of them said punjab is where erik learned to use it, so it was called the punjab lasso.

We went to this indian restaurant for my mom's birthday and I nearly started laughing when I saw a few items maked "A Punjabi specialty." My brother started making comments about the chandeliers in the restaurant at the point.
