The waters were pretty warm today, and as usual, Whisper was spending some time darting around, mostly to scare the occasional school of fish that was gathering by. He loved to hide and dart out at them when they least expected. This was something he did as a foal, and never really seemed to grow out of.
As he swam, he heard a noise pretty familiar to him, water droplets on the surface of the water. He swam to the surface to confirm his suspicions, it was indeed raining. "Aw man," Whisper said, "The rain usually makes the others go into hiding." Whisper wasn't really looking to run into anyone, but he always held up hope that someone would at least bump into him to say Hi every now and again, especially on the days that his brother wasn't around him, which usually wasn't often.

Cocomin had been watching the sky, waiting for the rain. Rain always washed the best things into the water. Sometimes shiny baubles, sometimes fruits or nuts or berries or even coconuts.
So she swam, strong and quick, toward the shore. She barley managed to avoid the stallion who so blended in with the foam tossed water.
"Oh, oh hi. Sorry, pardon me. Didn't see you there. Hello, I'm Cocomin!" Her smile a bit self-depreciating, but still very warm and generous.

Whisper swam a bit, wonder what he should do now. The rain was a love-hate type of thing. He loved the sounds of the rain hitting the sea, but he hated that it drove many of the other Seathi away. As he thought of things he could do, he decided to swim to the surface to see just how bad the storm was. He was hoping it would be quick though, so that maybe others would come back out to of hiding.
Just as he made it close to the surface though, he was hit by a thud. His instincts kicked in, and he swam as fast as he could. He wasn't sure where to go, but he was urged to get away. He didnt look back till he had swam a good 6-8 feet. When he did though, he was shocked. "Oh, em... Hello. I didnt expect YOU here." Whisper said. "Everyone usually hides when it rains." He said to the lady. "Oh, I'm Whisper!"

Cocomin's smile is wide and open. "Oh, yes. Nice to meet you Whisper. The rain is good though, it washes thing from the shore into the water. If you wait right by the edge, you can find all kinds of wonderful things. And the rain doesn't hurt or anything, it's just cold. So why hide?"
She was fairly exuding cheerful friendliness.

Whisper wondered about the mare, and what she was saying. Surprisingly, Whisper rarely made it up to the shore, and when he did, he never found any 'wonderful things'. Generally it was lots of seas foam and seaweed. "Really?" He asked inquisitively. "We should take a look them." Whisper was kind of excited to go to the surface and see if they could find something.
As he prepared to swim with the mare to the surface, he continued, "Oh, I love when it rains, but I don't see others swimming around. I always thought I was the only one who really enjoyed the rain."

Cocomin nods as she moves towards the shore. "I don't know about others. But I don't see any difference in swimming when it rains except rain pushes shore things into the water. There are some rains, though, that are too big. When the rain is so dark and hard that it makes the water move in huge walls . . . those are bad rains. Much comes into the water during those rains, but much goes out of the water too."

"Oh yeah," whisper said, "I have been through a rain like that before, when I was younger. It scared me." Whisper began to think a minute, and got very quiet. What the mare had just said triggered something. "but much goes out of the water too". To this day, Whisper had no recollection of what happened to his family. He had been lucky enough to finally find his brother again, but it had been many years that his mother and father had been missing. Could this bad rain have cause his family to go missing? Maybe that is why others feared the rain.
Whisper had to let his thoughts go, at least for now. He'd talk with his brother again about these possibilities, but for now, he was eager to see if anything exciting would be at the shoreline. "I wonder what we might find!" he said.

Cocomin grins. "I don't know. That's what makes looking so much fun!" She hurries slightly until they are just at the water's edge. Her eyes dart around the frothing water, looking for anything new and different.
It doesn't take long before she darts forward towards something brilliantly blue. Snagging it quickly, she pulls it away from the edge of the water, where might might get lost back onto the shore. She takes it over to Whisper to examine, but sighs as she see it's just a flower. A large and beautiful flower, but not edible.

As the two approached the shore, Whisper got more excited. He had hoped to find something interesting. As he closed in on the shore with Cocomin, he could hear the raindrops louder and louder, and the sound was getting his adrenaline going even more.
As the popped there heads at the shoreline, Whisper saw an interesting looking blue thing. The shade of blue had obviously caught her eye too as she scooped it up. "Wow, thats pretty," Whisper said, "It looks a lot different than the things under the sea."Whisper actively looked around the shore to see if there was anything else interesting. Suddenly he saw something in the sand where the rain had washed a bit away. Whisper stretched to reach this small item, and brought it back into the water. As he brought it into the water, he showed it to the mare, hoping she would know what it was. "Hey look at this.... thing!" he said excitedly!
((I had a sharks tooth added to Whisper during the SPLASH event, and thought this would be a good time to have Whisper find it))

Cocomin looks over Whisper's find. "I have seen those before. I don't know what they are from, but they are sharp. Can be very useful. Poke holes into things with them. I always end up losing mine, but you should keep that one."
Looking around, she is distracted by something she sees and with an, "Ah!" Cocomin darts back into the frothy water's edge. A cluster of deep red fruit shaped like large teardrops cling to a branch that was washed into the water. "Look, these are sweet things from the shore. You can use your sharp thing to cut one from the bunch and we can share it. They are very good."
((Giving him something to do with the tooth to make it useful. These are mountain apples - looked up Hawaiian fruits and it seemed like something fun to add.))

Whisper listened as Cocomin answered his question. "It does look pretty sharp." he said as he handled it carefully. He wanted to be sure he didn't cut himself. "I'll have to find a way to hang on to it,' he said as he looked around quickly. "I wonder if a piece of seaweed would hold it on?" he said more thinking out loud.
"Oh, those look very good!' Whisper said about the fruit. He went to hand the mare his new sharp thing, but remembered that she had lost hers in the past. "Would you like me to cut one off for you as well?" he asked her as he got closer.

Cocomin nods. "Yes, please. I don't find these often but they are very good, crunchy and sweet."
Watching Whisper use the tooth, Cocomin thinks. "I don't know about seaweed. It would hold for a time, I'm sure. You would just have to watch it and change the seaweed as it wore out."

Whisper began to use his new tool to get each of the a piece of fruit. He carefully used the sharks tooth, as he didnt want to drop it and lose it. "The do look pretty inviting." he said about the fruit, as he handed the mare hers.
When he was done getting his, he looked around for a place to put his newly found tool. Suddenly he saw a piece of seaweed along the shore. "This should work for now." he said, "Later I might be able to find something stronger." Whisper spent a quick moment tying the sharks tooth to his leg. Once he was done, he took a bit of the fruit. he didnt want to be rude, but he could help talking with his mouth a bit full. "this is amazingly juicy!" he said, trying to talk between his lips.

Cocomin laughs softly before taking a bite of her own piece of fruit. She savors it for a moment before chewing and swallowing. "Yes, they are very good. They don't keep for more than a day or so, though." Taking another bite she looks around, her eyes hunting for anything else being washed into the water from the edge of the island.
As she finished her apple, she darted a few more times towards the churning white waters, each time coming back with more fruit of differing varieties. "It seems the rains are plentiful this time. Must be a good fruit harvesting time on the land. You have to be careful not to come when the storms are too high. But the really big storms usually wash things far into the waters. I have found all sorts of wonderful and different things after the big storms. But I keep safe and far away from them while they are raging."
"But the rains seem to be clearing up. There won't be anything more washed into the water here at the shore. Between rains sometimes things can be found at the river mouths, but that's dangerous. You have to be very careful not to go too far into the brackish waters. I can show you sometime if you like, but this fruit needs to be taken to where it can be eaten before it goes bad. It's more than even the two of us can comfortably eat while it is still good. Do you know anyone who might need the extra?"

Whisper was glad the storm was finally clearing up, and talking with the mare had really made him forget about the worry of the storm he had in the first place. "I guess the small storms aren't that bad," he said, "Besides, the cool things you can find are pretty interesting, and this fruit sure was tasty. I would stay away from the big ones still." Whisper was grateful to have someone to spend some time with. He usually spent time with his brother, but they both needed to find some more friends.
"You know, maybe I could take a piece or two back to my brother and mother. I'm sure they would enjoy it just as much as we did."
