 They had been in the roguelands now, for what seemed like twice over what his daughter had grown and had children. He was getting tired as of late. Hiding, fighting, protecting his own, it was getting harder and the more they moved- the less territory they can keep in without being attacked. Any food- was either stolen or barely any. He, as the former knight he was- would always find SOMETHING for his mate. Even if it was just one fish- at least it was something, even above himself. He would not eat if it meant she would have nothing. He had to admit, the roguelands were becoming more dangerous than he had last remembered it.
After now, three near death experiences, he was fed up and had already looked in to multiple prides but with no luck but he wouldn't tell that to his wife. Ever. She had faith in him and thats what kept him going. But he was becoming more and more bitter to the fact that he couldn't provide her the immediate luxuries that she was once used to- even if now she hadn't ever said anything.. he still wished she had it all once again..
The day had turned to night, and thus easier for them to move but he was weakened by the trying to find and hunt down prey all day with no luck.. and came back with a bird. Just a bird. It even disappointed him.. He slowly made his way back, keeping his head low until he was in the vicinity of where his wife may possibly be.. Raising his head high now, he had to show her- he was dependable, and he still was strong.. He planted the bird down next to the tree where he left her.
"Lady Undine..." He spoke up.. "It is little- but at least it is something til I find something bigger tomorrow.." Talking to the air, but he knew she was in range through her smell.

Undine had been wandering the Roguelands with her mate, and it had been a trying time. It wasn't surprising though, just an interesting thing to think about, considering how harsh it was. In this sort of shifting environment, one would think that more Rogues would find Prides or some such. But perhaps, if that were to happen, balance would shift. Or, on the other paw, perhaps that would make things to easy for the ones that remained. then life out here would be considered ' easy ', and then, eventually; the cycle would repeat itself. These were the things that the female would contemplate lazily, while traversing and surviving. Other than also wondering how her only daughter was doing, as well as her grandbabies.
The older cheetah knew that times were even tougher for Abasi, and herself, because they were cheetahs. They were not as big and threatening as a Lion, nor were they as tree-adept as a Leopard. Well, cheetahs can get into a tree, but that doesn't mean they could get back down easily. ..Without breaking a leg. Having a broken leg is a death sentence for a cheetah. While she didn't show it, or tried not to, Undine was always worried that Abasi would get injured. He was always doing the hunting. It was worrisome enough, just considering the hyena factor. But the added stress the maroon pelted mate of her piled on, wasn't good either. It also wasn't healthy to eat little, and then do so much work.
A sigh escaped her. Undine knew that her mate just wanted her to survive, at any cost. Her black tail curled around her front legs, while sitting daintily, as the old girl just wished that the cost could potentially be the other half of her soul. Regardless of how sturdy Abasi was.
Black ears perked up and twisted to the quiet voice that snuck through the night, while her pink nose caught the scent of the bird that had been brought back. It may be a small meal, but it was the effort that mattered. To her, at least. " It's alright, I do not mind the avian meal. You did well and I'm proud of you. "

"Proud does not provide food for the family." Usually not one for confrontation, especially against his love but the times were getting more rough. Way more rough. But the old knight slowly slipped beside his wife, circled around her for a moment before showing her the most affection he had given in weeks. A gentle face rub with his cheek. Followed by a dry lick to the temple. "I believe I am losing my edge... or that we may have to leave again soon. The lands are dry- I suspect their may be a lion pride in the vicinity." Lowering his rump- followed by the rest of his body, elegantly falling like the cheetah he still wanted to be.
"Eat..my lady." He almost ordered her- but it was because he knew how long it had been since he brought something to eat. It made him sick to his stomach how he couldn't seem to provide for Undine. It struck him as the lowest of his prior rank. The male was in deep thought of what to do from here. How much longer he could take of this..

If there was one thing that annoyed Undine, it was how stubborn the male was about accomplishments. Anything was an achievement, big or small. But apparently, the only ones that mattered, were the major accomplishments. There was no use verbalizing her opinion though, because it never worked before. Undine returned the nuzzling, however, and licked the bridge of her mates' nose. She knew Abasi was starting to wear down, but that wasn't much due to age. It was all the pushing her was doing, done by himself and the environment.
" I will only eat, if you promise to do so as well. And I mean eat, not ' take a few nibbles. "

"A good bargaining chip, my lady." He had to let a soft chuckle as she pressed her tongue against his nose. A sigh came off of him, and he leaned in for more, he was that out of it to not be as stiff as he once was. It was only really because of his worn down state that he wished comfort from his mate. Which made him easily purr against her. Which was a rare accurance.
"You know me too well- for me to pull one over. But my lady.. my love." He lifted her chin up. "You need the strength you can get- a mother and lady are always first. And winning against you is like winning a storm.." So he leaned down, pulling the bird towards them and almost splitting it in half hearing the bones and muscles tare through his keen sense of hearing / Obviously the bigger portion to his lady that he swears it is equal in cut /. "There. He finalized and laid her part of the avian down between her forepaws.
He wouldn't eat unless she started, it was only courtesy.
"......" As he watched her, he was examining every fiber of her.. Almost looking through her soul. It was his worrying that, was pulling down his mood.. But then he decided in that instant.. He couldn't take just giving her this anymore. They couldn't keep going.
"We're moving to a coalition." His voice sounded forcefully sure and didn't leave room for much debate but if she did. He would explain how their suffering made no sense anymore and assure her his intentions. He saw everything. Her body thinning, his as well- much longer and one day he'll come home to a dead mate- and he WOULDN"T take that. Not one instant could he imagen life without her, she was his everything.. Thoughs same strong eyes, showed compassion in their wake..

Every gesture, every movement, was silently watched from heterochromatic eyes. Though it was nice to always hear her mates' voice, and the utterly rare occurence of him purring, Undine could tell there was something on Abasi's mind. It was the slightest changes in his speech, and little things in his body language. Anyone else might not be so adept at spotting them. But the old girl knew her mate. She was graceful even when eating the split avian presented to her, a pinnacle of ladyhood. This composure was even kept when Abasi forcefully affirmed that the two of them were going to be heading to a Coalition. This was and wasn't surprising. The two cheetahs had once been a part of a bigger group, but that was many suns and moons ago. It was even before Mani, was born. Oh, how time went.
" So be it, then. What place did you have in mind? "

He then went to eat after she did- but unlike her. His hunger got the best of him as he ripped through the bones and nearly ate the whole avian entirely in one sweep. But he realized his manner, though he continued without another thought beyond that. Normally having the utmost manners but his stomach and body ached for the element so dearly that it had overtook the mind entirely. Until he was finished- he threw the mangled bones behind him, hearing them break and fall against the tree.
Then lowered his head, then laid at his side, coiling around her.. He was thinking of where- he hadn't encountered another cheetah pride that wasnt JUST a rumor- let alone one that would treat Undine like the royalty she was..
"I have been searching.. But in my search I have yet to be successful.. I may have a lead but it doesn't look at promising as I would hope."
Encountering a rather shady cheetah whom spoke to him about riches- and to join them blindly. Feeding on insecurities that would be for naught if it meant putting them in danger. The cheetah didn't look at ALL very reliable. "But trust that- as soon as there is a lead. It will be our salvation to this baron land. And you will be treated like the royal you are." He was determined to find that- no matter how much he would have to give up- to see her not in danger again.
Looking to her finally, as he laid at her feet. "I will stop at nothing, and give all that I have to keep you safe." Extending his paw out and brushing her cheek softly with his torn up pad..

It was obvious to Undine, that her mate was terribly hungry, considering how he engulfed his half of the bird. There was hardly any bone left for him to toss aside, as he'd ground up most of them while eating like a Jackal. Undine silently and calmly ate her half, daintily and yet, still with a hint of danger behind the regal facade. The dark pelted cheetah lazily played with the leftover bones sitting infront of her, as her mate curled around her lithe form. She was silent as Abasi spoke. Not at all surprising that he hadn't found a suitable place for them yet. It was something to be picky about. Abasi was already the picky sort, but it would mostly likely come in handy in the search for a new home. When it came to such dealings, you truly had to know all that you could, before making a decision that serious.
" Take your time. It does not bode well to make hasty decisions when thinking about something serious. You'll find all the information you need when the time comes. "

She was his everything. The very breath he used to speak was a piece of her. Everything that was him, was made up because of her. Every muscle, she truly could not understand the love he had for her.. and the more he simply gazed upon her.. The more determination for her safety, and care became his priority. Even when she ate, she was graceful and dignifed, where when usually he was. The pains of hunger called him rabid. Softly, he let his eyes roll down to how she was idling playing with the bones..
"Does my decision bother you my lady..."
Then looked back to her face again, still his chin draping over her arm. A tail coiled around hers..
"...Or is there something else the matter. " The dawn was twiddling down... and now his pelt didn't burn so much.. It was nice, the breeze had come in, though a barren place, it had some nice perks nothing to be livable in.

Undine simply licked the spot between Abasi's ears, as he'd looked up at her from his resting position on her arm. It was adorable when he did that, as he didn't do it often. Depending, anyway. It seemed to happen when the older male thought he was in any sort of trouble. Although, at the moment, she couldn't figure out why. She hadn't said anything in opposition to what her mate had wanted. Nor was there anything underlying what she had said. Sometimes, men truly confused her. The old girl knew that her mate just wanted to be comfortable, by all meanings of the word, but sometimes it was troublesome. She says what she means, means what she says.
" I don't know why you would say that, as nothing is the matter. I meant what I said, in all truth. "

"I can't think of us out here any longer. So my search will continue in the morning. As cheetahs, we should look at also learning skills that others use to survive." Softly grazing his paw over her arm.. A delicate touch was all it took to keep him satisfied.
"Maybe learning how to be up in trees. Things like that.. " As a warrior, he knew that he had to learn something every day to keep him on his feet and a slight yawn made him shake his head.. "We will be doing a lot of walking tomorrow.. If you sleep now, you will have ample energy for the walk." Softly getting up to lean against her and softly lick across her ear. "Forever will I be in your debt." His whispered in to her ear, something he said- an equivalent to saying 'i love you' in the lack of the more common words. Then he got up and shook his fur off and raised his body high.. Letting the breeze flatten his mane back. Ears slid down..
Almost having made his decision right at the spot.. There were two prides he would accept..Maybe. Having them so far apart would be troublesome to get to.. But the outcome would be far more greater in his eyes. She will have everything she deserves and more. He would make sure of it.
"Then I shall take your word for it.. Likewise, you know I will be here.. " Softly padding away..
