The dark mare lifted off into the sky, her black hide blending in with the falling darkness, her white spots acting as if moving stars. Her violet eyes sought out beauty beneath, peering into the vast darkness for a place to graze. She gave a small nicker as the wind ruffled her short mane, a feeling she oh so loved. The Mistress of the Sky was awake, and hungry.
Being more of a night mare, Nightingale did not see much of anyone, which cause the sweet girl a bit of loneliness... But she wold pull through eventually. She was beautiful, and meant for the night. So in the night she would belong.
Finding a nice plain, not far from the King's City of Avandere, the mare landed, her hooves making a soft landing noise as she grasped onto the soft soil beneath her. She had seen none in her survey of the area, so she thought she was alone.

Varteres decided to take a break for a little while, feeling warn out with all the excitement in the king's stables. With all of the little kids running around, Varteres had to be on his hooves a lot to make sure everyone was doing alright. His sister was doing better, thanks to Ve'ki and all of the kids she had been adopting. He was happy for her, but he needed a little time to himself, knowing she would understand. Dea had told him to be careful, but gave her blessing for him to go get a break.
He galloped into a nearby plain, the gentle breeze blowing his mane behind him. He loved the feeling of the coolness of the evening air and the light from the stars to guide him. He wasn't really paying attention to where he was going when he ran into someone.
"Oh pardon me,"Varteres spoke, looking in the direction of whoever he ran into.

Nightingale fluttered her wings as she reared up, her attacker plowing into her like a strange bowling ball. Realizing, as the stallion apologized, that this was not an attack, but an accident due to her dark coat, she relaxed, her wings still up as she eyed the stranger warily. All too familiar, she was with the evil forces that plagued the land. "Good evening, sir... Your apology is accepted, though I have to admit, you startled me..." She said, her song like voice lilting quietly through the night.

Varteres tilted his head as he heard the melodic voice, a smile on his handsome face. He bowed his head, reminding himself to be a gentleman when in the presence of a lady.
"I did not mean to startle you, m'lady, I just had my mind on other things. I was so deep in thought, I did not pay attention to where I was going. I was just out for a night run to get a little rest from everything that is going on at home,"Varteres explained. He noticed how the mare seemed to blend in with the night, except for the white spots on her coat.

Nightingale studied the male in the half-light of the full moon. Her wings relaxed slightly, though not enough to indicate that she wasn't adverse to taking flight at a moment's notice if he was to attack her. "This is not the time, nor the place to let your guard down, sir... If you get my indication?" She pranced in place, not able to stand still. Dainty, though she was, and soft and kind, as she was... she found it very hard to stand still for long. She always had to be moving, unless she was sleeping.. in which case she was usually dreaming of moving or flying.

Varteres nodded his head, he knew exactly what she meant, it was not safe to let your guard down.
"I must admit, I know a little too well what you mean, m'lady. Those who are loyal to the Six could be lurking around any corner, especially after what they have done not too long ago. They have taken more than I can explain from my family, so I am well aware of the dangers,"Varteres spoke quietly. He pawed at the ground as he thought about Serenity and all of those he knew who had lost loved ones in the recent attack.

Nightingale nodded along with the male's words as a shiver ran down her back. Just the thought of the vile creatures that had murdered countless azrein and humans made her skin crawl. She sighed, finally having to move. She couldn't stand it. "Would you like to walk with me?" She asked softly, needing to move once more.

Varteres saw her shiver and could only imagine what she must have been thinking. As she asked about walking, he nodded his head, not minding the idea of walking with her.
"Yes, I would be honored to walk with you, m'lady, you certainly seem to be in need of some company. I am very sorry that I scared you with my words, it is just that one of my younger sisters had her lifemate taken from her because of the Six,"Varteres explained. He began to walk, knowing she would follow after him.

Nightingale shook her head. "You did not frighten me.. I have heard of the... tales of the Six... And I heard about the massacre... My heart goes out to your sister." She said softly as she began walking with the stallion, wanting to keep pace with him as she did so. She flexed her wings... they itched to move to..but she didn't want to fly just yet. The night was young, she would still have time.

Varteres walked with her and smiled softly at her words, glad to hear he did not frighten her. His eyes were momentarily saddened when she said her heart went out to his sister, giving a nod of gratitude.
"Yes, the Six killed many Azrein that day, including the king's own bonded. Many of the people of the kingdom are recovering from losing either their own Azrein, their loved ones, or Azrein they knew. My own chosen, in fact, did not lose any of her own, but was greatly impacted by those that did and my sister. I am glad you do not know the pain of any of that or I assume you do not, "Varteres spoke.

Nightingale sighed. "I know the pain of loosing a love one, but I have not lost a loved one as you have. Mine... died of other circumstances..." She looked away, hiding the pain in her heart. Her mother had died of heartbreak shortly after her father left... Thats why Nightingale had left her home.. thats why she was unable to stay still for long periods of time.. She had to move... But.. as much as she wanted to move.. she wanted to be around this male... He was nice...

Varteres looked over to her when he heard her hesitate at the end of her sentence. He fixed his caring eyes on her, trying to think of what to say to her about that.
"I am sorry to hear that you have lost someone dear to you, m'lady. Even if it is not in the same way, losing a loved one is tough. From the sounds of it, the loss still troubles you, would I be correct in that assumption? "Varteres asked gently. He walked with her, wondering if she would feel safe enough to confide in him.

Nightingale sighed. Her mother had always told her she was as transparent as the water. "My mother passed while I was still fairly young... She died of a broken heart.. My father left her for another..." She looked away, unable to meet the handsome stallion's face. He scared her... She could easily like this male... but he would hurt her like her father did her mother.

Varteres's facial expression went from one of shock, to one of compassion as the mare poured her heart out to him. He reached over and gently nuzzling her, his way of letting her know he was sorry.
"That is terrible, I cannot believe anyone would walk out on someone they are supposed to love. That is no way to die, she should have lived a very full life. It makes me made that someone would have done something like that to your mother. I have seen the power of love and when it is right, it is magical,"Varteres explained.

Nightingale tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with sadness and curiosity. "Who has loved like that?" She asked, wanting to know if he spoke from personal experience or not. Why do you care, Gale? You just met him anyways.... She stomped her hooves, shaking her head and willing the voices to go away.
