These damn burns. She hated these injuries so ******** much. They say that when one is depressed, wounds heal slower than if one was hopeful and kept their head up.
Ami was in the pit of despair.
She rested with her body half propped up by pillows, a mess of bandages and burn creams plastered over her body. There was nothing to do, not that Ami wanted to do anything. Otto was sleeping, and she wasn't going to bother him. The poor thing needed sleep. It was sad really- she had an immense sympathy for the 17 year old victim, but not a drop of self-empathy.
Since no one was around, Ami pulled out the pieces of Junpei and set them on her lap, just staring at them. Tears would have threatened the corners of her eyes, but she had cried herself out back in the prison corridor. She couldn't find the energy to care anymore.
Funny, Junpei would've told her thing would get better. It wasn't the end of the world.
She heard footsteps in the hallway and shoved the pieces back in her pocket. She was determined to tell her supervisor as soon as she could move without feeling like she was going to vomit, but for now ... for now, Junpei was her secret. It wasn't something she wanted the world to know.

Marcus had wanted top just say hi to Ami, see how she was doing, then leave her alone. But, things never really went the way he planned for them. Stepping into the infirmary, the sigil on his coat had him shoved into a temporary nurse position while the one who was supposed to be on shift dealt with something that was 'the end product of life's s**t'.
His job was simple. Go in, check the patients, make sure they had what they needed and to look busy. The last part he could do, as he wasn't sure he could do much else with his very limited medical training.
So when given the task to go check on the trainees, Marcus held the clipboard with unsteady hands. He'd wanted to see them, but not as 'staff'. STill a knock on the door, he waited, then entered. No one screamed they were naked after all.
Looking to the beds. "Hey Ami. Surprised to see you're awake. Feeling okay?"

Ami blinked as Marcus walked in. He wasn't a lifer, he was moon. Did he transfer or something? Then again, moons sometimes helped them when they were short a few hands. In addition, she couldn't imagine Marcus ever leaving moon. Ever.
"Ah, yeah," she half-whispered, "From what Otto tells me, I was out for quite some time." She nervously picked at the fringe of her cot blanket, and then put a finger to her mouth, gesturing over towards Otto and the others. They were sleeping after all.
She gestured for Marcus to come closer, wincing a little at the soreness of her muscles. Sitting all day didn't exactly count as a "work out." "Better, I suppose," she said in the same hushed tone. She was lying straight through her teeth, but with the way she held her expression, no one would ever know. "I'm still a little sore, but the burns are looking better."

"From the medical record, said you've spent most of you time sleeping. A nice change from your workaholic self." He smiled, finding the irony funny. "And so long as I don't yell, they should be fine. The drugs they're giving you guys is pretty heavy. Also lacking in anything that might trigger dreams. A small blessing from what I gather." Sitting himself don in one of the chairs, he flipped through a few pages. "Says your healing is going pretty smoothy, they don't think you'll have many scars, if any at all. Another small blessing huh? You get to stay blemish free." Leaning on the chair he sighed. "So, just have got to check your fluids, vitals, and see if you guys need anything." He paused. "Anything that isn't work related mind. Could bring you a book, pillows, blankets, not sure if I'd get yelled at for smuggling cookies in though."

Ami made a face when Marcus cracked the workaholic joke. Not an angry one, just a face. Maybe an eyeroll.
If Marcus thought she'd have "no scars," he clearly hadn't seen her back. The poor flesh was stricken with angry red stripes where Medea's lava had burned her back, and she had a circle of teeth marks at the base of her neck from the mind bugs burrowing their way into her skin and up to her skull. She frowned, but didn't ask for anything. She wouldn't need anything, after all.
She smiled at Marcus and said, "No ... but thank you." The composed smile stayed on her lips. "Which vitals do you need to check? I don't want to keep you here too long. It's dreadful," she said, no exaggeration in her voice, but a cunning smile replacing the placid one. They both knew Ami had no choice but to stay. At least she could help him finish his job quickly.

In his defense?
You were a workaholic Ami and he worried that you worked yourself too hard.
Medical reports were sometimes optimistic, and almost all of those taken were considered 'lucky' with how much had happened to them. Nearly clean bills of health. Nearly. Their bodies could be put back together, but it was hard to say as far as their minds were concerned.
He smiled a bit, this time weaker. "A lot of the other trainees were worried. They're calling the mission a rescue but..." He sighed. "Need to just check blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, that wort of thing. Just be glad I don't have to run blood tests. Still not trained for that quite yet." Plus he wasn't comfortable poking people with the intent to draw blood. Something about it made him think it would be a fun thing to do. That something he guessed, being Dis's influence.
"But, you're not in a coma. That would have most of the people here ready to heal you up and put you in a pod." Realizing he was going into the negative he got up moving to grab the equipment. "Sorry, It's been just a bit..mentally hectic you know?"

Junpei burned in her pocket. It was hard, keeping a secret like this. Her hand clenched into a fist, grip fierce on the pieces. She'd keep it. She'd carry it.
When Marcus mentioned the pods, Ami tried to keep the worry from registering to her face, but contrary to popular belief, even Ami wasn't made of stone. An anxious frown crossed her face, eyes blinking something terrified but it passed as quickly as it had come. "Mentally hectic. Yes," she echoed, not really registering his words, and instead just focusing on keeping it together. Images flashed through her mind, but she kept them to herself. Everything to herself.
"Blood pressure?" she asked innocently, trying to appear enthused about having her vitals checked for the eight thousandth time.

Weapons were broken all over the place, in more ways than one these days. Looking up at Ami from the supplies he smiled. "Better than being mentally damaged. Which... Is a valid worry for us I guess." After all, the ones taken could very well have gone insane. Even if Marcus was sure some people were insane to start with. Wrapping the band around her arm, the pump was squeezed until tight, the thrum of blood easy to feel at her wrist. "Normal, if slightly higher than what's considered base." He shrugged as he worked to remove the band. Simple and painless. "How you holding up though. Mentally I mean. We only saw a cracked out show thing. No idea what you guys saw and well," a look of concern, "You guys aren't saying much."

That was a thought Ami had never actually considered. Mental damage. Was she damaged? No, no she didn't suppose so. Then again, insane people rarely thought they were mentally damaged. So perhaps she was.
When Marcus asked how she was doing, an auto-response kicked it. "Fine," she said brusquely, "Getting better." She wasn't, but that was no place for Marcus to visit. Rather, no place Ami wanted Marcus to visit.
"Heart rate," she said calmly. It was easy to simply focus on moving down the list. The faster she finished, the faster Marcus was gone.

He made a light buzzing sound between his teeth. "Lies are unbecoming of you. And that-" he looked to the machine taking down the numbers. "-is a pretty bad one Ami. You guys were out of it when we arrived. Completely zoned to the bones. I mean, you have to say anything but just.. don't feel like you have to hide it okay?" Moving on he poked her shoulder. "Also move, I've got to look at your back." He was trying to be nice but- "People were worried about you. Still are. I mean, I know I am at least."

Ami angrily flipped onto her back, teeth grinding as wounds reopened, burns screamed in protest. This was always the worst part of the check up, but that made sense considering that's where the worst of her wounds were.
"It's not a matter of hiding," she groaned, biting down on the pillow as she finally fell into a resting position. She let out a sigh of effort and then said, "More ... There are things not everyone is meant to ... or ready to see." It was somewhat vague of her, but she didn't know how else to say it. There were things Ami experienced that she couldn't put into words. Things she couldn't say without choking up. Things she didn't want to relive.
She put her head in the pillow. "I'm sorry," she whispered, eyes already glazing over as she got lost in memories.

"Slowly. No need to strain yourself Ami." Too little too late. He looked around, finding a fresh set of bandages. Pealing back some of the bandages he winced. Healing flesh was never pretty, and Ami was healing... but fresh skin was raw, her back looking like a mess. No scars- was a joke in his opinion. Even with their healing she'd be lucky to avoid some of the thicker scars.
He peeled the rest away, remembering what had been told to him. Clean, add ointment, redress. "Sorry, some reopened, so it's going to have to be redressed. I can do it, but I take it you'd prefer a female nurse?" He made it a question. Redressing the would was easy in itself, but personal space.
She wasn't opening up, but then what did he expect? "I'm sorry you had to go through what you did." He didn't know, he doubt he ever would. "Don't be sorry about what happened Ami. You survived, and that's more than we could have hoped for."

"It's fine," she said, in reference to Marcus dressing her. "There's still going to be someone's hands on me. It doesn't matter who's." Ami was surprisingly lenient on the issue, but perhaps that was because she figured it didn't matter with the state of things. Besides, the things hurt like a b***h- the faster they were closed, the better.
She let out a sigh and put her head on the pillow, facing away from Marcus. Her voice came out level, but her eyes always gave away how she was feeling. "I ... I almost wish I hadn't." She looked down and said, "I don't know what to do about it ..." It being Junpei, not that Marcus would know. A vagueness covered her tone because she'd heard it over and over in her mind already.
Her eyes closed as she focused on simply breathing. Would it have been better if she died? Junpei had told her once if she died there was a chance he'd turn back into a tablet and be brought back to the wall. Maybe he could've found another hunter? One that didn't kill him off?

Well, no protest wasn't something he was going to protest. Peeling off the remaining bandages he winced at the raw healing skin. Not fun. He went to get the cleaning materials giving her the only warning of. "Going to hurt." The cleaning her tried to be as gentle yet as fast as he could. The less pain inflicted the better.
He frowned, seeing her face, hearing that she wished she hadn't survived. "Well, I'm glad you lived even if you aren't. Maybe that's selfish of me, but friends dying isn't on the top of my list of wants." He would mourn, but he wasn't going to focus. He couldn't. And that hurt in it's own way.
"Whatever is wrong Ami, you know I'm not going say anything and I'll just worry." He began to dab the ointment on her back. "You can ask for help okay. That's what I'm hear for, even if I'm not the last minute nurse."

Ami winced and hissed as the cleaning ointment wiped across her burns. Marcus was at least good at what he was doing, but he didn't necessarily have the most gentle hands she'd ever felt. Not that that mattered. It was minuscule compared to the torture in the corridor.
Wordlessly she pulled out the piece of Junpei and set them on the small table next to Marcus. She couldn't form the words to explain.
