Candace was feeling strangely compelled to make someone's day a little better. She had woken abruptly, spent a good while in tears, and finally made herself feel better with twitter. Rep was always so unwittingly helpful in brightening her mood when she needed someone to cheer her up. There was one message that seemed to stick with her, however. Someone was spending their birthday in the hospital? She didn't sound too thrilled about that...Hazel, huh? Had she been one of the..? No, she hadn't. Candace frowned. That didn't seem fair, to have to spend her birthday like that. Candace had missed her own birthday entirely, it'd just slipped past her, and even that didn't sit quite right with her; it should be a fun day, not something you groan about.
She'd put her phone away after a bit of arguing with Rep. Let's see..birthday girl, huh? Well, Candace didn't really know birthday girl all that well. No time for a present, she couldn't even leave the island, and Candace wasn't about to bake a cake. Dwight was right, cooking was just instructions that needed following, but Candace would attempt cooking later. Maybe there was already a cake in there? Or something?
Cupcakes would do! Candles, candles..did they have candles? She'd practically turned the kitchen upside down in search of even one candle, finally finding them under a stack of scribbled recipes. Candle achieved! She grabbed a lighter, a cupcake off the counter--oops it may have belonged to someone already...oh well~!--and hurried out to the infirmary. Hazel, Hazel...ah! There she was! That tell-tale carrot top of a fro was her, right?
The candle was stuck in the middle of the cupcake top and lit, the lighter tucked into the pocket of her pants and the cupcake hidden behind her back as Candace stuck her head in the room with a bright smile. "Hazel~?"

More and more people had visited her for her birthday, and it seemed to be getting better and better as the day went on. Her injuries were slowly healing, but at least she's been feeling emotionally happy. Sure, her father wasn't here to celebrate it with her, bless his soul, but she did find it comforting that so many people cared about her... even though they didn't know each other very well. And here Hazel thought this was going to be the worst birthday ever. Silly girl.
Then suddenly, a girl peeked her head around the corner. Wasn't that the first chick to show her concerns for Hazel when she got knocked her her a** during orientation?
"Yes~?" Hazel mimicked Candace's tone.

Hazel's reply won her a laugh. Cute, Carrot Top! "Word has it a little lady is stuck in bed on her birthday. You wouldn't happen to know who that is, hmmm~?" Candace asked as she stepped into the room only to lean against the doorframe, eyes wide and curious as if she really did want to know where this mysterious birthday girl was.
"You see, I have this treat for her.." She then lifted a hand with the cupcake carefully balanced in her palm. She wouldn't let it fall, don't worry. "I only have so much time. What with the candle and all." Candace's voice was teasing, her grin wide. Yes, she was definitely feeling better than when she had first woken up.

First nutella fudge and now this? A cupcake and even has a little candle it in! Hazel was getting more and more excited like a puppy wagging its tail at a treat. "Ow ow ow!" she whimpered at her injured side before turning back at Candace, making grabby hands at the cupcake. "ME! Me! That's meeeee~!" pointing to herself, "I'm the birthday giiiiiirl!" Hazel has never gotten this many gifts in one day before. This was all too exciting!
"Thank you- um... Candace, right?" Hopefully that was her name, thinking that was what the twitter account said.

Oh my goooooood! Candace couldn't help but squeal with excitement at the sight before her. Hazel was so excited! It was like a small child or a puppy and it was just..ahhhh! Too cuuuuuute~! Her grin faltered a moment as Hazel complained about pain, returning with full force as the girl got excited again about the whole birthday thing. And it was back again! "Well then, birthday girl!" She held the cupcake more securely in one hand while the other covered the candle as she hurried to Hazel's side. She sat down at the edge of her bed. "You. Are. So cute. And yes, I'm Candace."
She presented the cupcake to the girl, giggling helplessly. This was more fun than she thought it'd be! Hazel's excitement helped. "Happy birthday, Hazel~! Make a wish and blow out the candle! She wasn't much of a singer. Someone else could take care of that.

Cute? Cute?
"I'm not cute! I'm tough!" Hazel beat her fist right to her chest, then realized how excruciatingly painful it was, she bit her lip and trying to keep a strong exposure, "S-See?!"
After a moment of violently coughing, she was surprised to see the cupcake at grabbing distance. Her eyes glittered from the small flame that danced on the wick. "Wish, wish, wish, wish, wish! I got it!" fist pumping into the air and narrowed in on the candle.
With one quick puff, the fire was out, along with some spit that landed on the cupcake and Candace's face.

There was a slight look of panic on Candace's face as Hazel punched herself in the chest, gasping softly and reaching a hand out to put it on her shoulder. "Jesuschrist! Are you okay?" Candace winced at the very idea of punching one's own chest when already in the hospital. Good lord. Her little display of strength did end up amusing though, and Candace couldn't help but roll her eyes and chuckle. "Fine, fine~." Whatever birthday girl wants.
Candace watched the girl, eyes wide and almost as excited as Hazel. She was so friggin' cute. She could deny it all she wanted.
Annnnnd then she got spit on. Her eyes closed the instant she felt anything hitting her, tolerating it with the patience of a saint. Good thing she wasn't planning on eating the cupcake anyway. Heh. After a moment she opened her eyes again, discreetly wiping any spit off her face and then offering Hazel the cupcake. "I can't get you a real present right now, but if you want I can get something for you after the portals are operational again. The cupcake is totally for you though." Candace waited for Hazel to take the cupcake before bringing a leg up to prop her heel on the edge of the bed, her hands folding neatly on her knee and her chin resting on top of them. "Anyone else come to wish you a happy birthday yet?" She'd like to think so. Any bit of happiness was nice to have.

"Oh, you don't have to get me a present," she wiggled her way closer to the cupcake, finally taking it from Candace's hand. It would be a bit strange to receive a gift from an almost complete stranger right? Besides, a hunter's shopping time is a very important time, considering they don't get out to often. Well, it certainly seemed that way to Hazel.
The fudge that Wilson made her was absolutely delicious. She was also hoping the cupcake, that Hazel assumed was baked by Candace, was just as delicious. "I had a few people visit me. One person even made me fudge!" She smiled before taking a biiiiiig bite into the cupcake.
When pieces of cupcake filled her cheeks, Hazel's eyes began to tear. Not from happiness. Not from pain. But from how indescribably disgusting the cupcake tasted. "UUUGHHHHHH!" Hazel shouted with her mouth full, and instinctively spewed out chunks right in front of her. Was this a sick prank?! That might explain why Candace seemed so eager to give her the cupcake.

Candace turned her head so her cheek was pressed against her hands now. "I know I don't, but I'd like to. Birthdays only come once a year~." And there was no telling when you'd be celebrating your last. "I'd like to think they should be a little more uh...cherished here on the island. What would you like? Anything in particular? Just name it and I'll see what I can do." Hell, she could probably even get it through less-than-honest means. She had practice at it..
Ooh! Fudge! Jealous. Candace opened her mouth to say exactly that until Hazel suddenly looked...very unhappy.
Augh! The ********?! She stood quickly, eyes wide and jaw dropped. Wh-what? Was the cupcake bad? But it looked really good! Then again Candace didn't taste test it because she hadn't planned on eating it. What the hell!? "Wh-what's wrong? Are you okay?" Her words and the look on her face seemed genuine. Candace hadn't been trying to prank Hazel, it wasn't her style.

Hazel's mouth hung open as the remaining junk fell out of her mouth, dribbling down her chin and onto the blankets. She looked down at the half eaten cupcake and there were remnants of some putrid things filled inside. The outer part looked good, but didn't give off a stinky smell, but the inside... had a familiar pungent and very potent smell.
Minipet poop.
Someone from the previous clean up mission probably saved some and baked this sucker up as a prank. Hazel was unsure if it was Candace's intention, but she definitely was the one who brought it to her...
She held the cupcake up to Candace's face, letting her take a good look and whiff of what was inside. She tried keeping her mouth still as possible to avoid tasting more of it.

What was wrong with the cupcake?! Candace was honestly worried now. Was she allergic to what was in it? Why was she throwing u--oh..oh god! Candace gasped, her eyes wide and her hands flying to her mouth. Oh god! Oh god! Gross! Grossgrossgrossgrossgross! She may have even gagged a little.
"OhmygodHazelIamsosorryIhadnoidea!" She really, really was so sorry. So sorry.
Yup. She was definitely going to make it up to her with an actual present now. ******** that's nasty.

A moment later, Hazel just dropped the cupcake without a second thought. Mouth covered in the stuff, it was hard to even think. Most likely her breath probably smelled like poop too. "waaaadah" she struggled to say to Candace, rubbing the clean parts of the blanket on her tongue, in and around her mouth.

"Ah! Right! I'll...I'll be right back! Don't move!" D'oh! Stupid. Of course she isn't going to go anywhere. Candace groaned and shook her head as she ran out of the room, bolting down the hall as quickly as she could. She was back shortly after with a pitcher of water and a glass. All to wash out the taste of s**t.
"Here," Candace filled the glass and offered it to the girl in bed, setting the pitcher down on the table beside the bed. "Hazel, I am so sorry. I had no idea, I swear. I'll make it up to you, okay?"

Hazel filled her cheeks with as much water as she could, but because her cheeks were full, her solution to swishing was shaking her head as violently as possible. Her hair just as dramatically flew back and forth. After a few moments of just that, she managed to swish water in her mouth and spat it out back into the glass. The sight of the water leaving Hazel's lips looked like diarrhea.
"... You can make it up to me..." she began to speak again, "by putting the other half of that cupcake..." Hazel said in a very flat tone, she was serious. Poop serious. As in very serious. "in your mouth."
That would indeed make it up to her. Very much. No need for presents, this would have been enough. Birthday girl can't do this alone!

Hmmm, she'd have to get Hazel another cup. Or just wash out that one so the girl could drink the water now instead of just wash out her mouth. Candace was even about to go and do that until Hazel said how Candace could make it up to her. Oh good! How-- ... "No."
