The grass was drier than usual. It hadn't rained in a while and with the summer heat, the grass was on the verge of drying out. Capricorn could almost hear the small grass blades crunching underneath her boots. Normally she'd rather stay inside with the windows open to let in the breeze; today however, she had a urge to go out.
She hadn't been to the Greenhouse Park in ages. Possibly since she was a young kit. It sure brought back memories. While many of her siblings and friends would play here, she simply wasn't made for the outdoors. She was never the athletic type and preferred to be with a good book. Besides, her glasses always seemed to fall off when she ran.
Walking towards a shaded area, Capricorn took in the smells of the garden. Even though she never played, she loved how clean the air was and being with her family. She entertained the idea that she might run into them here, but the odds were low. Dazing off into her daydream, Capricorn laid down in the shade of a tree.

Marcus padded along the brick road of the Greenhouse Park singing about his valiant adventures. Slaying dragons, seducing the Goddesses, and saving the Princesses all in a days work. Course, none of these stories were actually true, he just liked to believe they were. Marcus's mother used to read to him fantastical tales of true heroes and knights and he vowed one day to grow up to be one. He would protect the small and weak and save the lovely from the horrible. He would chase the nightmares away from the maidens and awaken them with his true love's kiss. He'd begun training with the sword at a young age. At first he just practiced with a stick, but he gradually made his way up to a wooden sword that his father had purchased for him as a kit. As he aged he seeked out a master to be taught and now found himself fairly proficient with the sword. He had found regal attire and now walked the streets around the Greenhouses in hopes of finding an adventure. Upon this day he was patrolling the great Greenhouse Park keeping his eyes peeled when up upon a hill in the shade he spied a fair maiden. He stopped in his tracks and whistled lightly before trotting up to her. "Hello there fair maiden." He bowed. "Are you in need of a hero on this fine day?" He winked playfully at her.

Capricorn jumped as the voice snapped her out of her daydream. She looked over towards the source of the sound and realized it had just been another phox in the garden. Relaxing her body, she took a second to process what the phox had said to her.
Capricorn made a face at being called a fair maiden; that's definitely not something that she's called on a regular basis. However a smile quickly broke out on her face as the male gave her a wink. "Playing hero?" she asked to the stranger chuckling. "I believe this maiden can help herself, but thank you for the offer."

Marcus smiled down at the female who he appeared to have startled from a hopefully pleasant day dream. He awaited her response as he watched her face dawn slowly into understanding, a smile upon his face. Although, the smile began to fade and his eyebrows began to crunch together in confusion as she continued. "I'm not "playing" hero madam, I am a hero! I'm just looking for someone who needs saving." He struck a pose and flashed a valiant smile. "If you happen to know anyone who needs saving, you should point me in their direction."

She peered at the male with a questioning look. "Oh, so you save villages and slay dragons then?" Capricorn asked, with a smile that mirrored a face a parent would give a child when entertaining their ideas.
"Unfortunately I don't know anyone of that nature at the moment. Though since there are normally plenty of phoxes in the garden, I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding someone." She looked towards the direction opposite of Marcus, waving her paw around in a circle gesturing him to look over there. "However, it might be a bit too hot today. I suspect that most would be inside taking shelter from the sun today. Even phoxes don't like too much sun."

"Yes, that's exactly what I do!" He raised his head proudly to the sky. He looked towards the sun where Capicorn pointed, shielding his eyes with one paw. "Oh... So no fair maidens then to save today." He dropped his paw and his head with one motion and let out a sigh. "Yet again I have been defeated." His tail swung between his legs, a disappointed look painted upon his face. Then he perked up suddenly. "Well do you need help with anything? An escort home or to the store? Someone to carry something heavy for you?" His large goofy smile returned at the possibility that he could help her. Although none of these were tasks of epic proportions even heroes had to start out somewhere, somehow.

Well you can't blame him for not having enthusiasm. Capricorn got up and shook off the grass that had stuck to her coat. "I think I can manage without a guard. But maybe as an normal phox, you can walk with me to the river. I'm feeling a little parched from this heat."
She looked over at the male with an inquisitive look. "I'm called Capricorn by the way. It's weird to have spoken so much without introducing ourselves."

He watched the female, she was actually quite stunning and her coloration added bright colors to the lush summer green area. He nodded as she offered the walk. "I think I can manage that." He chuckled. A normal phox eh? he thought, bemused by the idea.
He laughed again, startled that he hadn't introduced himself. He began to bow to her before quickly remembering he was supposed to be acting as a "normal" phox before he stood up again gruffly and coughed. "My name is Marcus." He smiled at the female phox and offered a paw to be shaken.

Capricorn smiled at the male as she lifted her paw to greet his. "Pleasure."
With a swing of her tail she started taking a few steps towards the direction of the stream. It was good that today she chose not to sport her scarf. Even on warm days, the phox is rarely seen without it. However, without it she felt exposed somehow. Thinking about how her scarf was still at home made her tense up visibly.
"Do you visit the gardens often?" she asked, not directly looking at Marcus.

As the female walked away he padded slowly and gently behind her, allowing her to lead the way. He was looking around when her jerky movements caught his eye, she seemed upset about something, but of what he was unsure. He frowned lightly, upset to see the female hurting in any way, but as this female had already shown, she didn't need a male to help her along, or to interrogate her for that matter.
As she walked, she talked. That would be okay with Marcus. "I patrol the area every once and a while." He nods at the thoughts of the interesting people he has met on these walks. His favorites were ones such as Capricorn, stunning females that made his adventures seem all that more worth it. He smiled to himself at the thought of the other maidens he'd run into, some had fallen in love with his heroic and adventuring ways, while others, like Capricorn, seemed simply bemused by his thoughts and presence. Maybe one day he'd run into one of these females that would convince him to stick around.

Concentrating on moving towards the river, Capricorn didn't look back to face the male as she talked. "Then I assume you live near here. Do you live within the Greenhouse perhaps?" There were still many phoxes that still lived on these grounds. Capricorn had when she was a child in fact, though she had left before she was full grown. "Or do you live at the edge of the city perhaps?"
She hadn't seen this phox before, so she must not live close to her. Well, it was possible, but unlikely. "I live closer to the beaches than the park."

He pondered this thought, "I live about two blocks away from this park within the city with my human and some other phoxes. It's a nice house but people are often busy there, myself included so I'm rarely home. My owner is currently attending University in the city so she's only around in the evenings and during the weekends." He tried to imagine the beach, he'd never been out that far. Maybe he should add that to his patrolling list. "I've never actually seen the beaches before, what are they like?"

"So not that far then compared to me." How amazing that they were able to meet, when the two phoxes lived so far apart. "It must be frustrating in such a busy home. At least it would be for me. I'm one for peace and quiet."
She could hear the water now, they were close to the river. Capricorn's mouth started to feel dry in anticipation. Picking up her step a little, she answered Marcus' question. "Wet, salty. There's a lot of sand. The ambiance is nice, it's my favorite part about my home. Large too. Always enough space that I'm able to keep to myself when I want."
The ground underneath her paws was wet with moisture. It was only a few paces before they'd be underwater themselves. Walking on the stones that were halfway submerged in the water, Capricorn bent down and took a drink.

He laughed. "Nah, I enjoy the hustle and bustle. I'm one to be out there doing stuff and getting things done." Although he often found himself wondering what he was even doing.
He thought about the words she used to describe it, 'wet and salty' didn't make it sound very appealing. He would enjoy more space though, to wander, practice, save more maidens. He smirked at the thought and enjoyed imagining it all. He was spacing out so much that he didn't feel the moisture rising up through his paws and before he knew it he was waist deep in water. He shook his head and looked around confused for a minute. "Uh... The river I presume."
