As far as grunt work went, Melvin didn't all that mind. Not only was he not getting in anyone's way, he was busy. Busy doing one thing he was good at in the many other things hunters did that he had no idea what to do - Cleaning. It also helped him figure out the facility of Deus Ex and also helped him meed a few hunters.

Having helped in the labs, he was then directed to a nearby town that he didn't even know of, and took a trail over before he was pointed at the few buildings that still needed help. Entering one of the houses with a broom, he shot back against the wall when he small some weird, big-eared....cat rat?

The creature looked at him, snickered, grabbed a teapot, and ran out the back door.

"What the hell was that?!"

Outside, there was sudden yelp and a clamor of metal against stone and a splash followed by a painful sounding 'whump'. The little creature had come out of no where, and Jerry had lost his feet as it had darted under them, kettle in tow.

With a groan, he glanced to the open door where the only somewhat-familiar trainee hovered, rubbing his back as he tried to gather himself and his fallen cleaning supplies up. "Er... looks like um... oh, heck if I know. Did it escape the labs?" He managed, wobbling as he gathered the mop up under his arm.

He was soaked, but at least it was just soapy water. "Um. Is the water on, do you know?"

A new trainee? He could have sworn he had seen him before, but not at any lectures or meetings or missions he could remember...

"Those are in the labs?!!" He looked back at the door where the creature ran. It was his first time seeing such a small creature like that, and he thought of cartoons more than real life creatures. Apparently little monsters were around here too.

"Do we....kill them? Are they supposed to be running around here?" He looked back, but the other hunter seemed not to be too phased by it so he decided not to fixate on it as well.

Still a little distracted as he tried not to even ask what a little creature would want with a kettle, he glanced to the sink. "I don't think so. I haven't tired. I'm just moving to houses that need work. Don't really know which building here is the most important." He then finally looked at Jerry with a big more focus than before, before he frowned.

"Ohh. You're that druggie in the bathroom. Hope you're not hopped up to work. I really don't want to be babysitting today." He went over to a nearby sink and tested the water, hearing it gurgle out water before it stopped.

"Well, yeah... there isn't enough Fear around for them to survive for long outside of the containment. Those little halloween creatures kind of just... melt after a while, if I remember correctly. It'll be dead soon," Jerry wove a hand dismissively as he leaned his mop onto his shoulder before flushing heatedly. "I'm not a druggie!" He hissed, "That was... just... part of the horsemen's illusion!" With a huff, he turned to storm away, "I'm working on the school if you want to help." If the water was running in the house, it hopefully would be working in the school building. He'd refill his bucket then, at least it wouldn't be as heavy.

There was a school here? Did that mean there were children here?

Looking at the empty room, he thought of any more creatures coming back to steal some appliances and decided to follow instead. "So in this illusion, the horsemen decided to plant crack on your nose?" He asked, following behind him as easily caught up. This man was tall, but not by too much, and he managed to catch up. It did help that Melvin was only holding a broom and dustpan.

"Cause you seemed to be laughing like a loon back in that ...illusion was it?" Yeah, considering that Melvin was never and would never be an actor. Let alone a famous one.

The fact Jerry was looking even scruffier than he had on 'set' did not help matters. He had at least borrowed a hair tie from Sasha's things to pull his hair back in a short, rather silly little pony tail that couldn't even really be called such at the back of his neck.

Marcus was always busy barking orders to the newbies. Now he was starting to see why. "Do you understand what these stripes on my coat mean?" He huffed, bucket rattling as he poked at his collar pointedly.

Melvin followed, only to see if there was a area that needed more help. (And maybe because he didn't want to get attacked by small, creepy creatures.) As he followed, he took in the general look of the man he was following. Taller, his messy hair was abused in a small pony tail that made him want to tell the man to just cut his hair if he couldn't maintain it. His clothes, if you could call them that, seemed better suited for a prisoner than a hunter. Considering he seemed to do drugs, it seemed rather fitting, and the bucket and mop made him see the other fellow as someone performing community service than a hunter who had more experience on the field.

When the man pointed at his collar, he glanced and then frowned. "That you need to clean your coat..." There were a few blood stains and considering this man looked a bit dirty, it didn't help. "..and shave." Actually, this man needed a complete overall, but he wasn't the first person who needed some seriously help in hygiene. There were only a few people he met so far that seemed to actually care about how they looked.

Wash, broom in hand, was sweeping some of the dust and rubble out the schoolhouse door when he heard the murmur of conversation wafting over. He straightened, one hand on his back as he stretched out a knot or two. Wiping his brow, he peered into the distance. There! A scruffy looking Jerry with a tagalong he didn't recognize. He leaned the broom against the doorframe and waved.

The words 'clean your coat' and 'shave' drifted over, and he frowned a bit. His own coat was dusty from working, and was tied around his waist, baring an old black t-shirt with the sleeves ripped off. It was hot and unpleasant, working in the damaged buildings, and he wasn't silly enough to try it in a brand new outfit.

Still, Jerry could use a shave.

"Hey," he rumbled, and paused, realizing the last time Jerry had seen him had been in the cells. He glanced away awkwardly, clearing his throat.

"That is, you folk come ta help? It's not too bad, in here. I little hot for them coats though."

"Wash! Oh, thank god!" Jerry moaned, hurrying his pace at a slight limp as he caught up with the Moon hunter, his expression clearly flustered. He plopped down his bucket and glanced over his shoulder to see Melvin still tottling after. "He won't leave me alone!" He hissed, "Convinced I'm a... a drug addict."

Melvin looked on ahead where the other man was sweeping, and offered a wave, warning him that yes, he was someone else with his friend and he was approaching. The other man, however, rushed on ahead to cling to the other, almost whining to him as if Melvin had been abusing him for the few short minutes they were together.

Frowning, he made his way at his own pace till he met the other. "Sorry, but when I see someone sniff cocaine, I can't help but think that." He said, adding some evidence to his reasoning to this other man who just happened to be pulled into the conversation without any context.

"It is a nice day, though I agree it's even a bit warm for me." Melvin was usually a very cold person, and tended to get along fine in sweaters and long-sleeve shirts regardless if it was summer. However, this was a different type of hot. It was stick and humid. For once, even he didn't want to wear a sweater. "Is it always this muggy here? Might have to take off my sweater and coat before I start. Wearing a coat isn't mandatory to wear at all times when we do this sort of work, right?" Melvin didn't know the regulations for what they could get away with regarding their uniforms.

"Hi Jerr- what?" Wash blinked, but before he could recover the other hunter had - "Cocaine? Well, now, I don't see as how he could get any on the island, and I'm sure, you know, they drug screen and things, this being like the military, so well, I think you're - that is."

He shook his head, trying to order his thoughts. "Jerry is a good man, I'm sure there was just some misunderstanding. I'm Wash," he wiped his hand on his trousers and offered it to him, "nice to meet you."

"As for the coats, well, nah, I'd say they wasn't. Wouldn't want to muss 'em anyway. This island can be awful tropical, what with the fog an' all."

"It was part of the Horseman's illusion," Jerry muttered irritably to the newby, "You get used to that sort of madness." He busied himself with shrugging off his own coat to find a place to hang it. "It was all pretty-" He hesitated, brows furrowing. Wash hadn't been there. Well, he had, but it hadn't been him- the man had been captured long before that.

Jerry's face paled. "How... how are you holding up?" He seemed in slightly better spirits than Sasha had been in, at least.

Melvin looked at Wash, then back at Jerry. "So it was the illusion that made you go into the bathroom and snort cocaine? Okay." He said, not in the least believing that. He somewhat gathered that the illusion changed some people and also the situation, but at no point was Melvin forced to sniff drugs, nor did he believe he would have. For now, he'd simply let it pass, but he wasn't trusting Jerry around any sharpie pens or chemicals he could inhale.

He judged the hand a moment that Wash had wiped on his pants, but he reached out and shook it, always true to his father's words that You never refused a handshake. It also helped that Melvin always wore his black, soft gloves. "Melvin. It's nice to meet you, too." And the druggie was Jerry. Noted.

Walking past, he found a chair that was tipped over and brushed it off as he stood it up. Then, taking care, he took off his coat, folded it quickly, and set it on the chair. Then, because he was working, he took off his sweater, folded, and set that on top. Underneath his shirt was a button up shirt.

Taking his own broom, he looked about. "Are there children on the island?" He asked, gesturing at the school house they now stood in. "Seems a tad dangerous."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2012 7:49 pm

Bathroom? What? It was all a little much for Wash to follow, so he just offered the two of them an uncertain grin. Surely this was some kind of joke he just wasn't getting. He was relieved when the man accepted his handshake - odd fellow, but polite.

"I, well." How was he feeling? Tired, abused, and a little disheartened. The shiny newness of his role here had worn off, and he was beginning to see the darkness peeking in around the edges of their 'pristine' cause.

"I'll be alright." He gestured to their surroundings. "Working keeps the mind busy, you know. How's, uh." He bit his lip. "How's Sasha holdin' up?" He'd mostly let her be- not exactly avoiding her, but not seeking her company either. It was part guilt, and partially because he didn't know her well enough to offer her the kind of comfort she needed. He had no words to soothe her soul- didn't know what she'd seen, didn't know what had broken and needed fixing. Couldn't help any of them, really. His own fault, for not getting to know them better. So he worked instead, worked until he was too tired to continue, and the sun had long since set. The fire in his muscles kept the demons at bay.

To Melvin, he replied, "No sir, I don't believe so, unless Gale counts, ha. It's just us- must have been from some kind o' habitation before."

"This damn place has been a thorn in my side since I was a trainee," Jerry sighed, happy to drop the topic of what-had-happened-in-hollywood. "I kind of feel like it's a lost cause." But it gave him something to do.

"Sasha.... I don't know. I really don't know." He bit his lip, rolling up the sleeves to his jumpsuit after hanging his own coat from a cracked door to a classroom. "She... she's been distant. She was... was distant even before... before she was taken. I don't know if it's... something I've done or... I don't know but I tried to be there for her when she woke up but she just... wanted space." He swallowed, "What... what happened, exactly? She asked about you when she came to." His face was wrought with worry, Melvin temporarily forgotten.
