Ariane had decided not to go to the HQ for repairs today; as much as she wanted her vacation, there was something that had been worrying her... Not that she was showing it. She had never been good with showing these things anyway. Besides, it wasn't as if she was looking for someone to pat her shoulder and sympathize. No, she just needed some time alone with her thoughts.
Thus, she found herself at the Labs - specifically, the pod room with the sleepers. It was almost eerie, being there again... After all, it was where her life as a hunter begun. Taking off her boots, she sat down, legs crossed Indian-style, with her back against the pod that contained a certain Jeremy White; the stupid boy had gotten himself put inside the pod again, due to his inactivity... Stupid, stupid boy.
How long had it been?
He was given a chance at a second shot at life, yet he threw it away so haphazardly. Not everyone got that chance to do so. Jude's special someone never made it. Dean never made it. Maybe if he was around, he could have pushed Jeremy to do a little more... She sighed, resting her head against the metal as she closed her eyes, wondering if he could be lucky twice; then again, wasn't there a saying about how fools have the best luck?

It was hard to say why exactly Deryk was around the pod room. He was just wandering through the labs, seeing how bad the damage was. The captives had all been rescued now, and they barely made it out alive themselves. So now they needed to go back and fixing things back at home.
And there was a lot that needed fixing. While he was passing by, he noticed that there was someone inside. Tilting his head, the death trainee made his way to see just who it was, soon finding Ariane staring at one of the pods.
"Oh. Hey Ariane. Um. What's going on in here?"

"Hm?" Ariane opened an eye to look at the person who dared to disturb her rest and alone time, only to find herself staring at a very familiar person. A familiar person she couldn't get mad at. Besides, she wasn't in the mood to get angry today, "Oh, it's you."
His question made her raise an eyebrow, but she did not bother to move from her spot as she looked around at the pods surrounding them before raising a hand, waving for him to come closer.

Deryk frowned a bit at that response.
"Nice to see you too," he said before looking towards the pods. The one in the one they were in front of... Wait, he's seen him around.
"... What happened?"

"He was a lazy a**, so they stuck his lazy a** back into a pod," Ariane replied, closing her eyes again as she tilted her head back, until she could feel the pod against her head, "Fair enough, but now I'm not even sure if he'll wake up again. Not that he can at the moment, with the labs down."

"A-ah. Gotcha..." Deryk said while looking into the pod. He didn't know this hunter too well, but he had seen him around. The idea of getting stuffed back into one of these was a little terrifying for him too.
"Well. Can try to help. Labs still need fixing. Not the only thing that relies on them so.. might as well start building walls?" he offered. Ariane didn't seem happy at all. He hadn't really seen her like this, so he had to guess that the guy was a good friend or something to her.
"Might help you take mind off of him for a bit. Yes?"

"Maybe. I'm surprised that the building is still standing with some of these damages... And repairs. We definitely need better repairs," Ariane sighed, pushing herself off the floor and slipping back into her boots. She then paused, looking at Deryk like his missing finger had just grown back or something, "It's not like I'm worried about him or anything."
Another pause followed as she stared at the pod, and then started to walk away towards where she had seen a partially constructed wall; someone had left out bricks and cement too... Which saves them the trouble of needing to go get supplies.
"And you are here because...?"

"Ah. Yeah. Probably fortify this area. Lots of lives in the room, yes," he nodded while looking around. Though, he soon eyed Ariane when she insisted that she wasn't worried about the guy. Right. And he had five fingers on his left hand.
"Oh. I was just checking out how bad the damage was. Pretty bad," Deryk said while looking at the same wall she walked towards. He made his way to hit, touching the side carefully as if worried it might collapse at any moment.
"So uh. We just.. get started then... yes?"

"Lots of lives, or lots of potential deaths," Ariane muttered, stopping at the wall and bending over to pick up two of the cement trowels that had been left there. Using her foot, she pushed the bucket of cement towards Deryk, so that it was sitting between them for easy access. She then tossed one of the trowels in Deryk's direction, flashing him a smirk, "Yeah, let's get started... So, catch."

"Th-that is one way to put it.. yes," Deryk frowned. When Ariane tossed a trowel in his direction, he fumbled on the catch and dropped it. Grinning nervously, he quickly scooped it back up. Looking it over for a moment, he went ahead and started to get working a bit. Or a least, he tried to. He never really fixed anything like this before.
"So um. Managed to get through invasion alright. And.. rescue.. huh?"

Ariane slapped cement onto the top of the existing layer of bricks LIKE A BOSS. Then she put a brick on top of the wet cement LIKE A BOSS. And then she placed more cement around that brick LIKE A BOSS.
"I was sick," She replied, "After that raid on the island that day. Came down with fever, didn't go on the rescue." A pause followed as she continued to lay down cement and bricks LIKE A BOSS, "How did it go?"
Too bad LIKE A BOSS meant 'not very well'.

"Oh. I see. Um. Well... we survived?" Deryk said while placing some bricks in. Well. He tried. It sat in weird so he had to remove them, "We ended up getting caught and stuck in a weird illusion. It had been a trap. Had to run like hell once we were able to. Lot of wounded. But... might have destroyed lair. Maybe. Hopefully."
The horsemen likely would have survived it collapsing. But it would rid them of a headquarters to be doing nasty things. He hoped that would ward them from future attempts.

"I see," Ariane continued laying down bricks, not saying much; or rather, she didn't really have much to say. The fact that they actually managed to start a raid on the island made her wonder why they weren't introduced to the horsemen sooner; they've been stirring things up in Halloween and tormenting those creatures, but their real threat is something else? That would explain all those spiral-shaped symbols they saw on external missions.
Ah, the joys of being a hunter.

"Yeah... All trainees made it out. N-not sure of the casualties."
He recalled seeing a lot of blood in that place. And some body parts. Deryk didn't want to think about it too hard. He managed to help get one of the other trainee's out alive. That reminded him.. there had been students in the lair. What were they doing in there?
Frowning at the thought, he halfheartedly replaced one brick.

"There will always be casualties in a war," Ariane couldn't help but be reminded of Killzone; she did not know the man personally, but when the island was covered in fog, and they were forced underground, she spent quite some time in his cove. Cave. Place. It was nice and relaxing, and if the man who designed the place was anything like it, she was glad that she didn't know him personally.
Deaths were easier to deal with when it's not personal. When you don't have an emotional attachment.
This train of thought sort of depressed her. Just sort of. And she was never going to admit it to anyone. Instead, in her bid to release all this negative thoughts and energy, she begun to lay down cement and bricks LIKE A BOSS. This time, LIKE A BOSS meant a really good job, although she had no prior training... So she had no idea what she was doing, and was just playing it by ear.
"So, you still hopped up on coffee?" Casual question, "Addicted to it? Or still in denial?"
