It was one of those less-than-exciting sort of afternoons, which was fine with Tinder. That meant his overly excitable brother wasn't in the immediate vicinity, trying to make a fuss over something. Tinder meant to enjoy the time off from family.
He'd picked a well-wooded area to walk in. Quiet, pleasant, able to enjoy the forest happenings around him without actively participating. Peaceful.
It was a walk well worth taking.

Rune was not looking for company this day, so when he happened upon another unicorn in the forest, it didn't exactly lighten his mood any. Unfortunately, he wasn't quick enough to escape the others attention. His day was only getting worse by the minute. He'd left his last encounter quite suddenly, as he had been discovered in his ploy to steal away the young filly from her parents. He'd run full out for two days, before he was sure he had eluded the girls father. It wasn't that he had meant her any harm, just that he knew that her parents would never approve of their daughter living with one such as himself, if they knew his true nature. Now he had run smack dab into yet another male. Hopefully this one didn't have a daughter for him to become enamored of. And he hoped that his markings were not an indication of his temperment. Rune was not looking for a fight.

Another unicorn.
Peaceful to be out on his own or not, Tinder was glad to see the other male. Too much time alone was a waste of time, and a chance meeting could be worthwhile.
The young adult regarded the other male silently for a moment, considering his body language, but really too young and too trusting in the general excellency of companionship to fully comprehend that Rune didn't feel the same.
"Afternoon! I'm Tinder, don't recall seeing you in the parts before. I could show you the best watering brooke." Despite his earlier gentle pace, Tinder's voice boomed slightly louder than necessary and served to startle the wildlife he'd been previously enjoying.

Tinder huh? Was that any indication of his temperment? Was he likely to burst into a fiery fit if Rune so much as snorted wrong? "Hello," he said, "Nice to meet you I suppose. And no, I am not from around here, but I don't need you to show me your watering brooke as you call it. I'm quite capable of finding water on my own thank you. Are there other unicorns around here?" He wasn't yet sure how much he wanted to tell this stranger about himself.

Blink. Blink.
Really? Whoever the other unicorn was, he'd just earned his nickname. Snappy.
"Yeah ok, suit yourself. Yes, there are." Shock over, Tinder lifted his head slightly. How dare the other one be rude? And out of his territory! His temper would remain under control. Temper. Controlled. "The members of my Glory, along with plenty other good folk. What brings you here?"

Good folk? Was he insinuating that he wasn't good folk? Well, he had been rather short with the fellow after all. Perhaps he should apologize. He thought about it for a minute and then answered. "An unlucky turn of events brings me here, and I apologize if I came off as being rude. I'm not in a very good mood today."

Tinder, everyone should have the time of day.
Tinder flicked an ear back at the jab of guilt that went along with the appeasement in Rune's apology. He didn't want his father's words floating around his head just then. But he gave in to it anyway.
"I shouldn't be so quick to judge. It's a pity to have any amount of ill fortune. Are you sure you wouldn't like a guide, or companionship? Or something else, perhaps?"

Rune supposed that the stranger was trying to be civil in the face of his previous comments, so he said, "I would appreciate someone to spend some time with, but please don't ask me questions I have no intention of answering. Basically speaking, I don't like talking about my past. So, are they many in your glory?" Not that he really cared, but it seemed like a good way to start a conversation that didn't focus on himself.

Outwardly, Tinder accepted Rune's words with a nod of acknowledgment. Inwardly, his mind raced. He was accustomed to forward individuals, his immediate family was full of them. He was taken aback though to find one outside of his family, and a stranger especially, to be so very direct.
If he wasn't still burning slightly from Rune's earlier rudeness, he might have decided he liked the apparent honesty and trustworthiness of an individual like that. Instead, he reserved judgment. And found he didn't want to speak about his Glory.
What else was there? He was afraid small talk wouldn't work so well.
"There are plenty enough. We have resided in this area for a good many generations." He wasn't vague on purpose, but the truth was that his writer hadn't any idea he didn't feel it was a question meant to be directly answered. "We are called the Rivers' Guard, and we serve the land by watching the balance of the ecosystem, to---Well, I don't suppose you want the monologue. Where do--- Ah, what is your favorite sort of terrain?"
Surely the ice would get broken somehow?
