Dreamless snorted as he looked around. He really didn't see anything magical or spectacular with the swamp. It was a swamp. There were trees, marshy ground, water, plants. How was it... special?

Dreamless was a practical minded buck. His world didn't have dreams or flights of fancy. There was no magic in the world. His disbelief in things he couldn't see left him barely acknowledge the Motherfather. She was the swamp though, and the swamp was all around.

Dreamless was pondering how his twin could believe in things that didn't exist. Things he was sure didn't exist. But did others believe in the... fanciful things? He decided to seek some out and take a survey. It was practical. That soothed his mind. So the rainbow-backed buck wandered the swamp, seeking out others.

There was a flash of orange behind the trailing branches of a nearby willow, and then a head pushed through, glowing eyes regarding the buck with a solemn stare. The doe had clearly just woken, disturbed by his passing. Of course it was too early for Dawn to return. He had only left not long ago.

She sighed softly and retreated, disappearing back behind her curtain of leaves.

Dreamless paused at the sound of a voice. "Hello." Came the even reply. He looked over his shoulder at the doe that peeked out behind the willow branches. He stared at her a moment, cool and detached.

The female looked... tired. "Were you sleeping?" It didn't cross his mind that he could be disturbing her. He was awake, so she should be awake too. All kin should... right?

That was an unrealistic ideal. Dreamless stared at where the doe had vanished.

There was a moment of silence from behind the willow, and when it seemed she wouldn’t reply... “Yes. I suppose I was.” The tip of a tail appeared, parting the branches and making them sway. It was, if he had the mind to figure it out, an invitation.

He was oblivious, and stepped closer, but paused at the wall of branches. "Isn't it late to be sleeping?" Wait, that wasn't his reason to be here. "Do you believe in things you cannot see?" He cut to the chase. She was the first he had run into, so he didn't have his questions refined yet.

Her voice floated out from behind the branches, clearly amused. “I didn’t realize there were specific times that one should and shouldn’t sleep.” She poked her head out again, watching him thoughtfully. “I cannot see love, but I know I feel it and so I believe in it. Is that what you mean?” Such an odd buck, but it seemed he would make a good distraction until Dawn returned.

Dreamless was about to open his mouth to say that was not what he meant, but she did have a point. He knew what love was. It wasn't tangible. ... But he could see it. Specially in his family.

"No." he said after a moment. "Like... dreaming while awake." What was it his twin called it? "Pretending?" It baffled him how she could do things like that. The things she 'pretended' weren't real. Though the fact that the nature of pretending was because things weren't real eluded him completely.

“Ah…” To Dusk breathed out thoughtfully; her head tilting to the side as she mulled over his question. “… pretending...” She stepped out from beneath the tree, moving closer to the buck. “Because I am lonely, sometimes I imagine that my brother is here and not somewhere else. So I talk to him, even though he is nowhere to be seen. Now, what if this time, I pretend that you are my brother?” The doe stopped only when they were nose to nose, a breath apart. “Who would you like me to be?”

The doe spoke in riddles. Or at least, that's how Dreamless interpreted things. He could understand being lonely. Even wanting for one's sibling. He wondered for a moment if his twin, Endless Dreaming would be fond of this doe. That question was quickly banished however. The way Dusk spoke, Dreamless wondered if her brother had died somehow, leaving her alone, and she just... waited for him because she was lonely.

That was the only logical explanation for her current hypothetical. He was not her brother, but taking one in as a family member was not unheard of. Adopting, or surrogates... he could never remember the right one. He could be her surrogate brother.

"I would like you to be you. Be honest, be yourself." She was quite close, and ... Well, Dreamless could smell her. That was... He couldn't think of a time when he had been in this sort of position.

The doe smiled. "Very well… that should be easy enough." It was for the best that the buck could not see exactly what she was thinking. His innocent assumptions would keep him complacent for the time needed for her to get what she wanted, or, at least she hoped.

To Dusk gently brushed her nose against his and then began backing up, returning to the privacy of the willow. "Come with me, brother." She beckoned. "I want to show you something."

He suddenly forgot why it was he had come to this part of the swamp. He was looking... something.... right? Wait what? Their noses touched, and Dusk had trapped Dreamless. The invitation was not ignored as he followed her curiously into the shade of her willow tree.

Some time later, Dusk was drowsing beside Dreamless, her head resting upon his back. A thought surfaced, suggesting that now she’d had her fun, she should send him on his way, especially before From Dawn returned. But she was comfortable and surely she could afford a few more minutes...

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It would be indigified and therefore untrue to say From Dawn walked back with a spring in his step, but his hoofbeats were that tad more free than usual. The morning's mission had gone smoothly - well enough, in fact, that he was ahead of schedule, and could return to his beloved sister slightly earlier than he'd projected. It was a matter of great distaste to him that he had to leave her behind when he slipped off to do his more...unsavoury jobs, but it was really the best for her - she had not the stomach for the worst of these things...as befitted a lady, naturally. But he too knew she hated to be away from him for such protracted times, and his early return would be a nice surprise.

...Or a rude shock. A set of alien hoofprints led to her bower. There was no trail out. The lighter mood fell from his mien; he set his jaw. She was lonely, he knew. He could not give her all. And thus he allowed her little dalliances, made no quibble with her choice of bucks. But that didn't mean he couldn't loathe it all inside, and as he parted her willow curtain with a precise hoof, his glowing eyes narrowed as his stormy gaze fell across his precious Dusk entwined with her latest beau.

Dawn was early. Dusk sensed the presence of her twin as soon as arrived, as a warm feeling of suddenly being completed. She opened her eyes, her gaze meeting his and then slipping away. While she did not look ashamed exactly, she could not quite bring herself to meet his gaze while curled beside another buck. But her joy that he was here was apparent in her smile as she shifted away from Dreamless and stood.

“You have to leave now.” She informed Dreamless.

Dreamless was content. With Dusk's warm body beside him, he was feeling quite relaxed, and lulled into a state near sleep. He hadn't found what he was looking for; answers. But this was a nice alternative.

He caught the sound of hoof-falls just before the willow leaves parted. Dreamless opened his eyes as Dusk shifted away from him. Red eyes fell upon the buck who suddenly joined them. Orange pelt, the wispy dark umber markings... this was her brother, to be sure. So he had misunderstood her need call him brother. It was unfortunate.

More then that, he was confused. Dusk had... wait, brother? And then they... and that...? His ears swiveled forward. All Dreamless could manage to so was half sputter. "Leave?"
