This new world was bitter-sweet; on one hand, Phenyo was mesmerized by the snow. She'd never even known that temperatures this cold could exist on Tendaji, so given the chance to go out and explore beyond where the group had settled was definitely an opportunity the Alkidike woman couldn't pass up. On the other hand, this terrain was not something Phenyo was even remotely prepared for, and she had not been enjoying the bitter chill on her feet. It'd taken time, but now she was decked out with fur-lined clothing and warmth - which meant she could be out and taking a look at this wonderful, snowy world.

Phenyo was exploring high today. Her goal was to find an area that allowed her to look out over a great distance, to really take in as much as Zena had to offer. Her practice bow and quiver were slung over her back as she climbed up the rocky walls; her movements slow, but deliberate. There were plenty of ledges here, some connected by trails and others just straight vertical climbs - it was on one ledge she decided to stop and take a break.

She wasn't sure how she felt about doing this without Jerarda - she also wasn't sure how her Sister would feel about Phen going on this adventure without her. There was a part that hoped she'd be hurt...there was a wiser side that knew Jera wouldn't care, but that wasn't the side that Phen was listening to.

Actually, she wasn't listening to any side of herself right now. She was standing at the edge of the cliff, looking out at the world and feeling...free. Cold, but free.

The members of the Wind Tribe were definitely fortunate, living so close to Zena. Because of it, most of them had clothing to protect against the wintery weather, or at least access to some warmer furs. Ayo was dressed in her usual outfit, with a fur-lined, hooded jacket and tall, fur-lined boots pulled over top. It was undeniably easier to track without the chunky boots, but Ayo knew this land nearly as well as she knew Sauti. She could move through the mountains in relative silence, even when the rocky peaks were capped in snow.

Those skills often came in handy, especially on days like today…

The Wind Tribe Prentice ducked easily from rocky overhang to rocky overhang, bright eyes locked intently on the Alkidike woman as she made her way up the mountain. Ayo had spotted Phen in the cave of the Legendary Beast. She had yet to meet an Alkidike and found the green-skinned girls to be just fascinating, but this one, this one in particular, was undeniably stunning. The swirling, blue designs across her arms and face…

…nosey, perceptive Ayo simply HAD to get a closer look.

And so here she was, stalking Phenyo through the mountains. She would have liked to speak with her, but everything that the Wind Tribe woman had heard about the Alkidikes gave her reason to believe that maybe hanging back and observing was the better idea. However, as the beautiful woman drew nearer to the edge of the cliff, Ayo’s heart began to race. Did she… did she realize that being so near the side of the icy slope was dangerous?

The woman bit her lip, her heart and head at silent war with one another. Living in a mountainous region herself, and so close to these even taller mountains in Zena, Ayo had heard far too many stories, personally knew far too many people whose lives had ended, whether intentionally or otherwise, at the edges of such cliffs…

”Hey, there.” Ayo called out, gently, so as not to startle the other woman. She couldn’t help herself. ”You doing alright out there?”

Why was it that she was constantly being followed? Phenyo was thoroughly confused because it seemed like everyone wanted to be her friend, or at least talk to her for some reason. She wasn't used to this, at least not from people who weren't Jera...but Jera not only wanted to talk to everyone, but challenge them to a fight. Which always put Phenyo into an awkward situation, but anyway. Back to the fact there was someone coming up behind her and speaking.

The Alkidike woman turned slowly, her feet shifting back from the edge of the cliff as she moved to face the source of the voice. What surprised her was the fact that it was a Wind Tribeswoman, not one of the blue-skinned Zena natives, that had followed her. Did I mention how impressive she looked, standing there with the bitter mountain winds blowing her hair about just enough to be sexy, seeming both unshaken but curious about the fact that she'd been discovered? No? Oh, that's a shame...that's something that should definitely be noted.

"I'm tempted to ask you the same question, Wind Woman," Phenyo responded, taking a moment to inwardly marvel at how short the Earthling race was. "But you appear to have equipped yourself for this environment just like I have, so I'll assume you're fine just as I am."

In her head, Phen was going through a mental check-list. Number 1: this was not a Leaf Tribe member, nor a Shifter; that automatically made this female (also another bonus) less threatening than the other options. Number 2: she had not outright ambushed Phenyo and instead alerted the Alkidike to her presence. Not necessarily always a guarantee against being attacked, but at least a good sign. On the downside, Phen was out classed in these mountains, and trying to run or hide could lead to her death. Best not to start a fight, but then again when did Phenyo set out with that intent? That was Jera's job.

As Phenyo turned to look at her, Ayo felt a slight blush streak across her face. Her brow furrowed at the unusual reaction and she found herself unable to make eye contact with the Alkidike who loomed over her in both stature and appearance. Next to the beautiful and mysterious woman with her large, dark eyes and lovely, swirling markings, Ayo found herself feeling quite… inadequate. It was a sensation she was not used to feeling, but something that had been cropping up more and more often.

She didn’t like it.

”Mmhm.”
Ayo murmured in response, doing her best to regain some semblance of composure, to straighten herself so as not too look so much like a lowly peon next to this strange and graceful woman. She had made a smart observation, that Ayo was dressed in furs, much as she herself was. Although she was certainly a foreigner to these lands, she had come prepared.

”I live here.” She finally managed to murmur, not nearly as exquisitely eloquent as she had hoped. ”But unless I’m mistaken, which I don’t believe I am, you’re not from around here… I’ve never seen anyone who looked quite so…” She hesitated, unsure how to finish the sentence without coming off as offensive. What do you say to a stranger who you somehow, inexplicably, dangerously … admire?

”…different.”

…Oh, dear, Ayo. You’ve never struggled with people quite so completely. What in the world is the matter with you?

The Wind woman cleared her throat.
”What are you doing here?” Because somehow, being a native to a nearby area means you have the authority to question every stranger on their purposes.

If only Phenyo had the ability to read minds, she'd probably laugh at the fact that so many people found her...mesmerizing. Yes, she was an Alkidike - a creature that most of these new tribes had never even heard of before, let alone met one in the flesh, so there were some other circumstances going on that made the shock and awe understandable. Still, she was only herself, and by her own standards wasn't anything amazing to look at. Plenty of her other sisters were much more striking...

Mentally, Phen kicked herself away from finishing that thought, because she knew very well were it ended and now was neither the time nor the place. Especially considering that the Wind Earthling's answer about living in the area made Phen feel a little foolish. Only a little, since she rationalized how was she going to know any of these things; after all, she was a stranger in these parts. Not letting herself falter, she listened to the blonde woman speak.

It would have made some of her other sisters proud to watch other tribes try so hard to keep from offending Phenyo. Even she had to grin a little, just because it was...both funny and endearing.

"Just enjoying the view," the Alkidike explained, motioning out to the wind-blow world behind her. "Your part of the world is strange and new...and beautiful. I wanted to explore."

Now...she was going to take a stab in the dark. Phen hadn't known that she had been being followed, but why else would a Wind-tribe member be out in this area? Deductive reasoning said that there was tracking involved, or at the very least some tailing. So she was going to guess, and hope that she was right.

"How long had you been following me?"

Ayo nodded as the woman explained that she was just enjoying the view. The Wind woman turned her attention, then, to the very view about which Phenyo had been speaking. She allowed herself to take in the sight... the snow sparkling wherever the sun touched. It really was a beautiful thing, something taken for granted by the people who saw it so often.

Ayo felt herself smiling slightly.
”Your land... is it very different?” She seemed to have found her words, her composure, rebalanced by the sights surrounding her.

Of course, that didn't last too long.

Those teal eyes blinked rapidly as Phenyo posed a reasonable question. She hesitated, perhaps a moment or two too long, wrestling with whether or not to speak the truth.

Ayo let out a slightly agitated sigh, as she could already feel her cheeks flushing again. Irritated. This woman only made her feel irritated. ...Of course, Ayo knew it wasn't intended.

"I saw you in the cave of the Legendary Beast." Ayo admitted with a sigh, perhaps even humorous in her entirely-too-defeated tone. "I doubt you noticed me. My rock-throwing skills are pretty useless."

The woman smiled weakly. "I promise I come in peace. I just... hadn't ever seen someone like you before..."
