Kavanna knew that it was time to be alone. After what had happened during her last dragon hunt with the love of her life, she decided it was time to go out alone, cherish the late afternoon.

Kavanna didn't have it in her to go out on further dragon hunts. Fighting just didn't appeal to her much anymore after the last few losses. She found herself wandering the very unexplored area of Soudul, because she needed to get away from the norm. That meant away from Serenia and the Celestial Plane. She spent far too much time sulking the past week and it was finally time to be alone and enjoy herself.

She found herself in a clearing north of Koralifel, the lake where she met the first Oblivionite she didn't have a hatred for. It was actually peaceful despite the fact that it was a darker, drearier place normally. It was different...something her mind needed very much at this point. Life had gotten away from her. The years seemed to fly by. It had already been almost two years since she started the academy as a mere apprentice, unaware of the dangers of dragon hunting, fresh off and ready to start life and take it by the horns. Now, she wanted something else, she realized life was far too short to have regret and pain. It was time to be a little more careful and live cautiously with those who she cared for.

Now was just a time for her to think and get a hold of her life once again. Time to take her life by the horns and lead it a different way, so to speak. She laid down on the dark grass and ran her fingers over the tops of the blades. She looked up at the dark sky and just fell in love with the surroundings here. Soudul wasn't normally her favorite place...but normal wasn't what she was looking for.

In contrast to Kavanna's growing calm and more adult wisdom, Eanah was a squalling infant, eager to grab at and chew on life until she either outgrew this forceful curiosity or something dire happened to make her stop. She had been away from the only home she had ever known for a little over three weeks now, and her initial discomfort had slowly given way to an insistent need to see as much of what her island had to offer as she could.

Every day, after her lessons had ended—and sometimes in between—Eanah set off in a different direction and walked until her feet ached, taking in the sights and sounds of Soudul. Today she had made it almost as far as Koralifel itself. Today she had also gotten a ride from an older Oblivionite with a rickety cart, but that was neither here nor there. She was here now, but still unwilling to get any closer to the daunting lake. It made her feel strange, like she was insignificant in the grand scheme of things. She didn't like it. Eanah wanted to be somebody.

She topped a small hill with the help of her trusty walking stick, breath coming in short pants as her heart raced. The girl was far from knocking on death's door or anything, but she had learned that she was far weaker physically than the majority of her classmates. It was something she'd have to work on. Something she was working on. Eanah squinted her empty eye sockets, as if that would allow her to see more clearly. Up ahead... There was something pale in the grass. Something that didn't belong. She inched closer, but still managed to maintain quite a distance from the horned girl, as if she would catch something if she got too close.

"How did you get here?" she asked, most of her quiet question absorbed by the breeze. Her expressionless face was no more hositle than usual, but her eyes retained their suspicious squint.

A sound reached the girls ears and she shot up, glancing about to figure out where the noise came from. It was a voice, that much she could tell, but it didn't sound welcoming nor very hostile. It was faint, but still able to be heard by the girl.

"I came here through the portal near Obsidian City. I walked here to get away. Now what do you want? Can't you see that I'm trying to relax a bit?" her voice spat. She hadn't ever had a pleasurable time meeting an Oblivionite female, that much was for sure. So her mind instantly went to the obvious route. She seemed much younger however, but nevertheless. Nayal was probably just the same age, and she had the cockiest attitude of them all.

The Dovaa rolled her eyes and laid back down. If this girl tried anything suspicious, she would surely be able to beat her down with no problem at all. Even though she wasn't particularly in the fighting mood as of late.

The hair on the back of Eanah's neck rose in response to this Dovaa's tone, and her narrowed eyes grew wide with affronted shock for a moment before she fought to control herself. For all that she had heard about the other races, the Oblivionite had only seen their numbers on the rarest of occasions and had most certainly never directly interacted with one. She was hardly surprised that the first of Abronaxus' children that she ever spoke to one-on-one was just as entitled and haughty as she had been led to believe they would be.

She wanted to leave, to turn around right then and find her way back to the dorms, but instead she stood stock still for all of twenty seconds, then crouched stiffly, gathering her skirts beneath her and taking a seat in the grass. Eanah remained well away from the other girl, and she sat as still as possible, her spine straight and her walking stick across her lap. She wanted this fiesty she-beast to leave, but it didn't seem the Dovaa was going anywhere.

Eanah sighed softly. "You find Soudul relaxing?" she asked, her rarely used voice a bit louder this time. "But you don't belong." The apprentice knew she would never find Serenia or the Celestial whatever peaceful. Her uncle had spoken of them every so often before he was killed, and they sounded like a pair of the most obnoxious places imaginable. "It would make me... itch to feel out of place."

The instant the Oblivionite talked again, the Dovaa realized that she wasn't here to fight. She didn't leave, and that was a slight bother, but she wasn't cocky like the other two girls she had encountered. Maybe she was different? Though Kav kept her mouth shut for a few moments after the girl stopped speaking.

"Well, I may not belong here, but this is the only place I can come to get away from all of the others. This place is different and because of that, it's the one place I can find solitude. Dragons don't even seem to be a large problem here on Soudul. I haven't encountered more than a few in my travels here. That is another reason I find it to be a bit different and furthermore...relaxing." she finally said to the girl, turning to her side to see the girl now sitting on the ground.

Kav raised a brow, but wasn't about to do anything drastic if it wasn't a necessity. "I'm Kavanna, a Ysali Dovaa. And you are?" she asked inquisitively.

"Hm," she replied, looking down at her stick. Eanah was trying very hard to seem disinterested, but like so many other things these days, the girl found this stilted conversation with the Dovaa very interesting indeed. At least she did if she didn't think about it too hard. Then the whole situation just felt uncomfortable and kind of gross. She hoped no one had followed her out here to see her stooping so low.

"I'm Eanah." She picked at her skirt with her unblemished and untested fingers. "I'm a mage."

It wasn't true yet, but that was hardly important. It would be one day. And if it turned out not to be, if she was forced to wield some gaudy sword or worthless little bow, this Kavanna would hear her screams all the way back in her dragon shack.

"So. What do Ysali Dovaa do?" Eanah knew her combat class was going to be taken on a trip to observe some dragons of the same name in the days to come, but they hadn't been told much about them. She was only familiar with the scattered stories older Oblivionites told and the rumors she'd heard as a child.

"Eanah, eh? It's nice to meet you, I guess. You're the first female Oblivionite ever to talk to me with a slight sense of respect. I like that." the Dovaa muttered, a smile growing upon her face. She knew that this little one posed no threat against her. She seemed genuinely interested in her however. Even though at first, all Kav wanted was to be alone, now that this Eanah-Obliv was here, she was going to make the most of the experience.

"Magic users are quite strong...you made a good choice becoming a mage. You have good posture as well, you don't act like the ruffians I'm used to seeing out of the Oblivionites. You have an extra factor to you that I don't think a lot of other Oblivionites seem to have...a heart, perhaps? Maybe I am speaking too soon? Nevertheless, I thank you for the interest." Kavanna concluded, pushing herself up to sit with one knee bent underneath the propped up one, resting most of her weight on her hand and arm.

As the question of the Ysali came about, it was obvious that this Oblivionite was interested in her and her powers. "A Ysali is a plant manipulator. Watch." Kav said, getting to her feet and cracking her knuckles quickly.

She outstretched her arms and hands below her waist, then rising them up, out of the ground before her came two dark green vines, following her hands every movement.

"Not only that, but we also have the ability to heal wounds. A very appeasing ability indeed." she said with a smile.

"What about you, mage? What does an Oblivionite mage have control over? The dark arts, correct?" she asked curiously. She had heard of mages from both sides and seen the powers of an Orderite mage many a time with Naomi and Alora being her close friends. It wasn't at all weird to see a healing mage, but what kinds of powers did the Oblivionites possess? She knew it wasn't healing, so it would be the opposite, destruction.

A series of conflicting thoughts warred, briefly and silently, in the confines of Eanah's mind. Part of her wanted to close her eyes and ears to this girl's very presence, so objectionable was her talk of respect for Dovaa and Oblivionite ruffians and... heart, but that would be weak and Eanah saw herself as anything but. It was true, since leaving home she had met more of her kind who behaved like boorish Orderites than she might have liked, but that was not a criticism for others to make. It also bothered her that Kavanna seemed to enjoy her clipped politeness, that she almost expected Oblivionites to treat her well, but the only outward sign of Eanah's displeasure was a slight tensing of her fingers on her staff. Dovaa were indecisive at best, lumbering hazards the rest of the time. They deserved no one's respect.

And yet...

Kavanna was definitely saying all the things Eanah wanted to hear. Things that were not quite complimentary, but close enough to nearly make the Oblivionite grin. Eanah would deny she was vain to the Celestial Plane and beyond, but that didn't change the fact that she was. She leaned forward as the Dovaa began to use her power, her mouth dropping open slightly at the sight of the vines.

She wasn't going to say it was nice to meet the other girl. She wasn't going to thank her for showing off her skills. She would, however, consent to this. "That was impressive. Beautiful..." she said, the last almost a whisper. The healing was less interesting, but it was what it was. Eanah sat up tall again. She wouldn't go so far as to call the magic she planned to master dark, but yes, it was to be destructive. She would have it no other way.

"I will use magic to defend myself," she said. "You can heal the people I hurt." At this she did smile, but it was so small and faint that it might as well not have been there at all. There was a more pleasant tinge to her voice as she stood and brushed at her skirts. "I take lessons in combat and, well, I will never wield a sword. I must fight in other ways. It helps that I have always wanted to use magic, I suppose." It was the most she had spoken at a stretch in quite some time, and she pressed her lips together when she was done, clasping her hands in front of her.

The Dovaa dropped her hands, erasing the vines from existence and as she sat down to the ground, a slight smile grew upon her countenance as she hit the ground. The difference between this girl versus the other Oblivionite girls that she had met thus far was enormous. She seemed almost kind, actually taking the time to really listen and enjoy the display of power Kavanna had.

This Eanah girl reminded her of Killian, the Oblivionite boy she had met months prior. Maybe they both grew up with respect and knowledge? Who really knew, or cared. At this point in Kavanna's life, she didn't care much for anything. It was nice to get away this once to the unknown land encompassed by the Oblivionites, but she was still bitter about the situation with the Firani.

A slight chuckle emitted from her mouth. "Well, lets hope you don't hurt too many people, alright?" the Dovaa said with a smirk. The first time she had truly smiled since her incident was this night. It was a great thing to feel happy again, even if the one making her happy was an Oblivionite in the dreary woods of Soudul.

"I'm glad you've stuck to fighting as well, being able to stay agile is a great bonus to any fighter. But knowing magic just makes you that much stronger. You're smart, Eanah, don't forget that. I haven't really ever given an Oblivionite a chance to talk. Normally I just scoff and leave or wait until they do. Battling sometimes. But you, you're different than the others. Just keep to the way you are, don't let the powers of darkness overcome you, okay? You never know what people will do with the power they obtain." she said.

Getting back up and walking closer to the girl, she outstretched her hand as if to offer a handshake. "It was truly a pleasure meeting you."

Eanah did nothing more than listen as Kavanna spoke. She didn't fidget or sigh, in fact, she barely breathed. The Oblivionite often had very little to say, but this time she didn't remain silent out of disdain or disgust. She was awed and, as much as she hated to admit it, humbled. That this creature would say such things of her after displaying such power of her own was almost overwhelming. She wished it wasn't. Eanah didn't want to be swayed by simple words, but for now, she basked in every syllable.

She didn't believe her people were needlessly hateful or anything to be ashamed of, but Eanah still felt a swell of pride when Kavanna said she was unique.

"It was nice to meet you as well," she finally replied, taking the Dovaa's hand and shaking it. There was barely any pressure behind her fingers, and the motion was accompanied by a shallow curtsy, but her courtesy was obvious. Initially, Eanah had wanted the older girl off of her continent. Now, though she still felt Kavanna's presence might attract other unsavory beings, Eanah didn't mind it quite as much.

"I think I will leave you alone now," she said, gathering the few items she had brought with her. "If I ever see you again, you won't be ignored." It was a positively glowing farewell.
