Living on the edge of a massive pride was all well and good, especially when the Scouts of said pride knew they had nothing to fear from a helpful old rogue, except that it tended to get fairly lonely. Despite the amount of traffic he was met with from passing rogues, new recruits, and those same Scouts Tyrwhitt had begun to change his life step by step. He no longer thought it was enough to simply live on the edge of the Pridelands; he wanted in.

That same thought let him to go further into their lands than he ever had before. In truth, he knew of a few faces he was searching for, but he only hoped he didn't come across an angry spirit. He wasn't a particularly large lion, and age had already begun to take it's toll on him. With that in mind, he kept low and stayed among the shadows.

Issa, on the other hand, was prancing blissfully in the sunlight. His full mane glistened with every head turn, or change of step. He didn't think he had become vain with age, but his mother had as much accused him of it. It was her opinion that he thought more of himself now that he was grown, and maybe he did. Although, that confidence wasn't brought on simply by more fur or a deeper voice.

It was all Idris' fault.

With every training session and hunt he had gradually become a better hunter. Currently he was able to bring down prey on his own, even if it was still sloppily and without any real form. Still, it was an improvement!

Turning around so that he could walk in reverse, the young adult grinned. "Let's go to the border today. I haven't been there in a while, and I got a hot tip that a large herd was moving in, though they didn't specify what kind of herd exactly." He shrugged. "Doesn't really matter though, does it?"

Stolling along at her usual placid pace, Idris snorted softly. She would never be seen prancing about as though still a cub! "You keep bouncing around like that, you're gonna scare the prey away before we even get there," she scolded, though a tiny smirk of amusement was there. She couldn't help it.

"..No, as long as you're sure it's prey, it shouldn't matter what kind of prey it is. It's good to be forced to think quickly." Walking off to the borders where prey could be anything. It'd be good for him to be surprised by the prey and have to think of a strategy then and there. "Let's be off then, before the day is gone."

Tyrwhitt felt like the bottoms of his paws were going to burn off. He had been walking around the border for what seemed like forever, making a little circular path as he waited for someone, ANYONE to pass by. Where was everyone? They couldn't have - "Oh." It seemed that he had spoken too soon.

It was at that moment that he spotted the couple, not too far away from where he stood in the shadows. His olive eyes twinkled with mirth. Ahh, to be young and in love. At least, that's what he assumed. After all, what good would it be for two youngsters to be on the border alone, where anything could happen?

Issa just chuckled. "Nonsense! We haven't seen anything for miles, and aren't likely too any time soon. I'm fine to prance around for a little bit, at least."

He continued to walk in reverse, vastly unaware of the larger, darker rogue watching him from just a few feet away. He couldn't help it; he was just perfectly giddy! Spending every day perfecting his skills with the enchanting, okay, maybe not so much in personality, Idris tended to put a bounce in his step.

Idris laughed sharply. "Perhaps that is why we haven't seen anything for miles." Idly, she started thinking about any time she was as carefree as Issa seemed to be. She was almost disappointed in how long it took her to think of such times.

Suddenly, all thoughts of being carefree stopped. The fur on the back of her neck prickled lightly, and she froze mid-step. Something was there... "Issa. Quit that nonsense." Her eyes scanned their surroundings, but from her position the cause of her concern was still out of sight.

"Oh come on, " Issa rolled his eyes. "You have seriously got to lighten up Idris. All that stress with just give you health problems." He couldn't understand what had her so pent up all the time. Maybe she just needed someone in her life to brighten it up? Maybe someone like him?

When she froze, he froze, one paw still up in the air. His face mirrored his panic. "What? What's wrong?" He didn't want to turn around in case something was back there. What if it was a hyena? Or a pack of them? Could they fight them?

He didn't realize it at first. In all actuality he was expecting the little couple to ignore him completely and walk off, but that female was exceptionally perceptive. Tyrwhitt took a deep breath, exhaled, and made himself known by stepping out of the brush wearing his brightest smile, which wasn't very bright at all.

"I'm sorry if I've startled you. Let me assure you that it wasn't my intention." He walked slowly. There was no sense getting attacked when he didn't need to be. "My name is Tyrwhitt, and I'm looking to join the Pridelands."

Idris hadn't spent her youth playing hide-and-seek with her brother for nothing! ...Actually, it was just dumb luck of a twist of the breeze. Of course, she was hypersensitive to anything out of the ordinary; especially when Issa was with her. Simply because he was under her care; so she told herself.

As soon as the stranger revealed himself, she instinctively bared her teeth, only just managing to not growl. She read the dark male's body language quickly, and allowed herself to relax a little bit. She came up from her crouch, and her teeth were hidden again. "Issa, don't be such a ninny," she scolded roughly. If the stranger had been a threat, Issa would have... Firming her chin, she raised her head. "You are in the Pridelands, Tyrwhitt. Go on with your business then. We've too much of our own to guide you on. There are plenty of this clan you can find to assist you in your noble quest."

Only by the strength of his iron will and past experiences kept him from totally freaking out on the female. Even though he felt uneasy, he tried his best to remain calm and keep up his attitude of friendliness. Granted, it wasn't that difficult when the first thing out of her mouth was chastising words to her little snookums cub. "Then my journey was not in vain," he teased, giving a lop sided grin. Still, the news caused his grin to wane. "But how can you be sure that I mean what I say? Shouldn't you take me in yourself?"

It was obvious by his actions that he really didn't mean it...or did he? He had no intention of tracking down other lions to do the job that these two could.

"A ninny?" He pouted. Seriously? Issa turned his gaze to the darker male with skeptical curiosity. For a rogue, he seemed awfully dark. The vast majority of rogues he'd seen in is life at least looked the park of a Pride Lander, but this guys pelt made him nervous. He side stepped a little closer to Idris, making sure to look especially small and puny in comparison.

"Tyrwhitt, was it?" Issa peeped his head up. "It's nice to meet you! My name is Asili'issa, and this grouchy downer is Idris. Of course we'll escort you back into the pride, won't we, Idris? After all, it's not like we can just let him go wandering free." Even though he wanted to do nothing more than that.

Ignoring Issa's cute little pout, Idris shook her head at Tyrwhitt. "I can't be sure, but I've no desire to have you-" her mouth closed as Issa spoke up on much more friendly terms than she had started. Her head swung around to glare at the youngster. She already had Issa to keep an eye on; she didn't want a second lion to worry about. A second, larger lion, of whom she knew nothing. Let him be someone else's responsibility!

Huffing, she turned back toward the stranger. She cleared her throat, resisting swatting Issa's fool nose. "I suppose I am outnumbered by those who wish me to guide wandering souls about," she said through her teeth, unaccustomed to giving in to another's wishes. She swallowed her irritation though, and spoke a little clearer. "Issa here seems intent to show you around, so he will be your guide back to the pride."

She turned to Issa with a sharp look that gave her words a clear edge. "Go on then, Issa dear. Guide the weary traveler." She had no intention of letting the stranger out of her sight by being in the lead. She would bring up the rear and shadow him like a fly on a hyena.

Issa laughed nervously and shrugged his shoulders. What were they supposed to do, anyway? Let the poor male wander around blindly until he bumped into Pride Rock. Okay, that wasn't likely to happen, but it was the principal of the thing.

"But you're the best kind of guide, Idris. Who better to show our new friend here the lay of the land than the best huntress in the pride?" He smoozed in her ear, making sure to dote on her like he did when his mother was in a temper.

"I truly do appreciate it." Tyrwhitt sighed with relief. If it hadn't been for the younger, smaller male beside her he would have been on his own. He could only thank the stars for that little blessing.

Issa dear? Issa dear? Even if her gaze tempted him to piss on himself, her words made his cheeks flame red. Did she mean that? Or was she only being sarcastic? Loving? Or condescending? Issa could barely breath. "S-sure, Idris." He gulped and took point, not the least bit caring if the stranger was actually behind him or not.

Tyrwhitt couldn't hide his snickering. It was priceless! Gods above, how he remembered young love. That sweet little twinkle in Issa's eye, that harsh, demanding glare in Idris'. Ahhh, the boy was truly whipped. "So...how long have you two been together?" He asked off handedly, slipping in behind Issa.

Idris rolled her eyes. Such flattery would get the boy no where. "Yeah, yeah. Just prove to me that I haven't been wasting my time training you all this time." Actually, she was looking forward to this a bit. Aside from the basic hunting for prey, she'd never seen Issa face a situation dealing with a stranger. It would be good to watch how he handles himself.

Her ears twitched at Tyrwhitt's question, using only half a second to wonder if he might be implying... No. That couldn't be what he meant. "I'll say this; Issa had much less hair when we met," she said, the tiniest hint of play in her tone. Had it really been so long? She'd barely noticed the time pass...

She could have called him a hyena for all he cared. Issa was on cloud nine by the time pride rock was actually visible, though still a good, long walk. He was just too damn chipper to care.

"The best things grow with time." He grinned, stroking his mane with growing pride. Although he only held eyes for Idris, he never let his gaze stray far from Tyrwhitt, even as he walked. The young male made sure to give the older lion enough of a birth so that he could keep an eye on him from the corner of his eye.

"I see." Tyrwhitt smiled. So it truly wasn't as young a love as he had thought, even if she was still a relative cub compared to himself. That boy, God's above, if he didn't stop smiling his face was likely to crack and break. It was starting to seriously freak him out. He wasn't used to this much...elation from one being before.

"So, were you betrothed, then?"

Though confused by Issa's constant grin, Idris had to admit that he was doing a decent job keeping an eye on the stranger he was guiding. What the heck was the silly thing so happy about? He looked absolutely adorable ridiculous, prancing about with that unwarranted expression.

Tyrwhitt's questions were starting to bug her. He was prying far to much into their personal lives for her taste. What if he was seeking a way to use their teacher-student relationship against them? As for that last question... "...Betrothed to whom?" she asked, brow knit slightly in confusion. Since such a subject had only unconsciously ever crossed her mind, she couldn't make the connection that the stranger would be asking such a thing about them.

"To Issa, of course. You two are lovers, right?" Maybe he'd had it wrong from the beginning. It had seemed so obvious to him, but then again, when was the last time he had seen a real couple? The older male sighed. Senile wasn't a good look for him. "I figured since he was younger than you are, that the two of you may have been promised."

Issa could have died. He felt the blood practically dump into his face, and it was like his heart was having a seizure trying to keep up. "Idris and I? Be-bethrothed?!" The young male sputtered. His steps wobbled and he could have sworn the wind was whistling through his ears.

Issa? Lover?! Repressing the strange flutter in her belly, she straightened her posture and shook her head. "We are no such thing, Tyrwhitt," she said stiffly, giving the dark male a firm look. She didn't have the time to be distracted by something like love.

She saw Issa wobble from the peripheral of her vision, her head snapping around to watch him. "Issa! What's with you?"

Looking gracefully embarrassed, Tyrwhitt cleared his throat. "Forgive me. I was too quick to judge." That look was enough to give quell his curiosity. Even if there was something more to the story.

Although, the boy was a different story.

"Can't you hear the...the wind...Idris?" Issa's legs couldn't stop shaking. He felt like he had run a marathon, when in all actuality he was close to falling on his face. Scratch that. When he had fallen on his face. Lover? She would never...Oh no! Never...no...no... "...No". And with the stars of his possible romance dancing in his eyes, the young adult passed out.
