██ : x ( KRINN & CADAVER. )
██ : x ( LATE NIGHT & CLEAR SKIES. )
██ : x ( THE CIRCUS. )

When the night came, the Circus's doors opened. The lines formed hours before though, a thicket of people mulling about as they waited to see a spectacle that would never get old. The Dust maneuvered quietly through the night's early crowds, a silver-gray blur in the night. Out of costume, he appeared as nothing more than another spectator. The Circus itself was a maze; a city of back and white striped tents thats flaps billowed gently in the breeze. First timers would find spectacles even outside of the many tents, platforms raised in between to accomodate spectators, and some performers didn't even use it.

The storm was used to the ways of the Circus by now, and with tonight his night off, he simply drifted, making rounds to make sure everything stayed the way it should. At time, Isobel would join him in between her act, her costume covered by a long, wine-red coat, black lace shown underneath. Now though, he was alone, wandering and weaving between the black and white tents with ease, the scent of caramel and spice in the air. Sometimes a familiar color raced through the air, and Krinn wondered if someone he knew was out there in the crowd.

But really, it was an unlikely idea, and he'd given up looking long ago.

It had taken pulling tooth and nails to get the kid off his feet. Taking weeks to coherence him into the living had taken it's toll on them both. Edelweiss didn't know how much more he could take but he had found he couldn't let Cadaver go. Not now, maybe not ever. The boy was just too fragile for his own good. After learning that his father had died and the youth wanted to follow him, he could only wonder if Cada would ever find a reason to live again.

When he happened upon town and heard of the circus, Weiss could barely contain himself. Cada had shown interest in going, however mild it was, he would use this opportunity. "Perk up, the night is young yet. Would you like something to eat, caramel apples, popcorn, they even have cotton candy?" It was all he could do not to scream at the sky for some miracle to safe them both.

Cadaver just sighed, shaking his head. "I want to be alone." He offered and didn't wait for a reply before he melted into the crowed. Weiss could do nothing more and let him be. The young dust simple shuffled his feet looking to and fro when something tried to catch attention. He would huff then shuffle onward after the offending spectral disappeared. As much as he'd wanted to see a circus he had always dreamed his father would take him, now it seemed like a long ago memory. Cada couldn't help feeling bad that he wasn't his usual cheerful self, obnoxious, noisy and crash. Weiss was trying to help him, giving him a reason not to give up but with each passing day, Cada just didn't see the point. He had lost all contact with his friends and he just didn't know where to start looking!

The pulse and shift of the crowd was easy for the storm to navigate now, and as he maneuvered in between tents, performers, and stands selling strange, outlandish sweets, he couldn't help but feel the loneliness of it all. His eyes drifted, catching another entertainer who'd just finished a small, improvised show right in the heart of their nighttime world. She smiled at him and bowed her head, the feline-like creature on her shoulder bowing its head in tandem with her own, elegant movements. She mouthed words to him, enjoy yourself tonight, and swept away in silk and lace garments, disappearing for a small reprieve before she returned for another performance. Such was the circus's way, so that there was never a knowledge or a schedule for their audiences to recognize or remember when they came.

Turning a corner, something caught in the corner of his eye, and the Dust paused, narrowly avoiding a group of avid teenagers who paused at the sight of him before moving on. Within the safety of the circus, he neither wore a disguise nor cared to. Tonight, he'd fashioned his hair into a ponytail, the thick strands of lightening grey-white spilling out over his dark suit. He pushed through another group with a murmured apology, ignoring their curious stares as he pursued the duo past another tent, watching as the older man departed and left the younger one alone.

The Dust faded into the crowd and watched without approaching, even though a part of him already knew who had entered the circus. He rumbled quietly, the sound of rain and thunder catching in the air. It had been months, maybe more since they'd last seen each other. He remembered the Pestilence Dust in full now, only the edges blurry and beyond his reach. But by the time he'd recovered, he was searching through empty streets and dead-end leads for a way back to the other. Sighing, he pressed himself forward, maneuvering the crowd until he was closer, close enough.

"Cadaver," he said quietly, touching the others shoulder tentatively. And then he held his breath, he waited.

He stiffened at the familiar voice, the heat from the familiar touch only jolted him that much more. It couldn't be... turning somberly, slowly so as not to jolt his dream to wakefulness. Ah the vision before him was like an oasis to his desert heart. Even if it were just an illusion he didn't mind, "You've come for me? To take me to the other side?" His words were hopeful, spoken from a far away place. With a smile reminiscence of days gone he reached a hand to play in familiar hair, removing the ponytail to see his old friend as he remembered him. A moment of recognition flickered in his eyes before dying completely. He wasn't convinced and because of that he stepped back fear pooling in his features. "No! You're not real!" He sobbed bumping into a gaggle of teenagers. "You can't be!" He sobbed again looking around frantically. What should he do? Who could help him now?

Cada's words felt like violent blows, even though there was no physical touch between them. The Dust's eyes flickered uncertainly when the other broke into a hysterical sob, tension rigging him in place. "Cada," He said quietly, and stepped forward when the other bumped into a small crowd of teenagers, "I'm real. I'm..." He reached out, grabbing the other teenager by both of his upper arms and pulling him closer and out of the thick stream of people. He staggered backwards, yanking the other with him until they were between the black and white stripes of two tents, out of the way of others, out of the way of wandering eyes. "I'm sorry." He said quietly, his tone filled with tired remorse, "I'm sorry I left you. I swear to god I'm real though. I am."

Slowly, he let go of the other, and took a step backwards. "I'm sorry." He murmured again. "I won't blame you if you don't believe me."

I won't blame you if you leave.

The whole time, Cada's mind reeled. He expected to wake up find himself gasping for air in a foreign bed. Even now he waited but as he watched he saw, realization taking over. Standing before him shaken and hurt was Krinn. He had hurt him? Rushing forward he wrapped the other in a tense hug willing himself not to wake up. He wasn't sure, he really hoped this was real so he held on that much tighter. "Don't go. Don't go! I didn't know it was you. I've had nightmares, you were dead and then I wake. I couldn't find you, I didn't know where to look. Please don't leave!" He sobbed into the other dust, willing his tears to work magic and keep him there. "Please..." He whispered holding on tighter. "Don't go."

The Dust held his breath when the other rushed forward, the tense hug digging past the initial shock and lodging itself in his mind. His mind moved slowly, the gears turning as though they'd been woken from a long slumber. Tentatively, the Dust moved his hands up, and his nails dug into the others shoulders and stayed there like an anchor, firm and desperate and only scratching the surface of how much he'd missed this. "I wont." He rumbled quietly, pressing his face against Cada's shoulder. "I'm not leaving again. I - " He shook his head, eyes flickering up to the Pestilence Dust's face. "I'm not dead, Cada. And I'm right here." He pressed the back of his hand to the others cheek, as though willing away the others tears. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, he kept wanting to say.

"I missed you."

Cada didn't trust himself to speak without sobbing like a baby again so he quickly turned his back to the other wiping furiously at his tears. He was so happy to see the other and so worried. After composing himself he managed a smile, it wasn't his usual but he was getting there. "I missed you too." He offered still using his sleeves to wipe at his swollen eyes. He gave the Raincloud Dust one final, gentle hug before stepping back a small pace to look at him. "You look well." He offered, it was more than he could say for himself. He was a wreck. No amount of tears had made him feel any better, he just didn't do well with sadness. He much preferred being happy and cheerful.

"I wasn't going to come to the circus but Weiss forced me to come." He offered. "I'm glad he did. I would have never found you otherwise." He smiled a somber relieved gesture. "Are you here for the show too?"

Pulling back, the Dust allowed his arms to rest at his sides as he watched the other, smiling faintly at the words. "Let's try to keep track of each other this time, hm?" He said quietly, hooking his thumbs in the pockets of his black, form fitting pants. He silently wished for Cada's sadness to go away; he couldn't remember ever seeing the other teen so broken, and it made his gut twist with guilt. The question drew his attention away from the unpleasant emotion circling his veins, and he laughed despite himself; a small, smooth sound like a light storm. "I'm glad you found me." He admitted. "I am not here for the show so much as I have become part of it." His shoulder lifted in a half shrug, and he glanced around. "This is my new home; a bit drastically different from... before. But Caelan wanted a change and I..." His tone dipped quietly, "I had little to lose at the time I agreed to come with him."

He turned his eyes back to Cada, and his mouth pulled upwards just slightly. "Would you like a private tour?"

Blinking, Cadaver smiled again, this time a shy smile. "I promise to keep in touch!" He would do his very best too. Reaching for his hood he pulled it securely over his head, his wild locks shading his red rimmed eyes. As Krinn revealed his involvement with the circus Cada couldn't hide his smile and awe. "Y-you live here?" The question was dismissed quickly upon his next one, "You're in the show too?" Again he was taken aback by the news. Never had he thought Krinn would work up the nerve to be a proformer. Cada smiled so bright he couldn't contain himself. He really was happy for Krinn and even glad to know his friend was part of the circus. As Krinn asked for a tour the sadness in his eyes disappeared completely, replaced with pure wonder. "I totally would love a tour! Thank you so much!"

The Dust laughed at Cada's smile, his fingers itching subconsciously to keep hold of the other. "Yes." He replied mildly, his lips curving into a wry grin. "I've run away to the circus after many, many years of mundane city life." Which wasn't all together true - but then, whoever asked for the truth of things anymore? He couldn't help laughing at Cada's questions, offering out a hand for him to take. "I'm a good actor so long as no one tries to kiss me on stage. They won't let me near the acrobats tent though, and I'm not sure whether to be relieved or affronted." Pulling Cada out from between the tents, Krinn turned around, navigating the crowd with ease, always close enough that the other could stop him if he wanted.

"There are a lot of tents set up; we went all out here." He smiled back at the other, his shoulders relaxing completely, his mind for once at ease. "Where do you want to start?"

["Has anyone tried...? To kiss you?" He asked, smiling devilishly under his hooded sweater he said nothing more on the matter. His mind flashing back to days of blushing and spluttered remarks. "You were always so alarmed when I did it." It was all in good fun too, he remembered but quickly brought his thoughts to the current situation. "Hmm? Where to start...." He mused to himself for a moment before coming to an idea. "I've never seen a real lion up close. Does your circus have one?"

Krinn's eyes flickered to Cadaver, heat dusting his cheeks just enough that they tinged red. "A few," he said, his tone dipping teasingly, "though none have succeeded but you. Your record remains on top." His lips curled slightly at the mention of how alarmed he'd been, and a soft, shameful laugh echoed between the two Dusts. "I never expected you to want to do it. And you were always very persuasive when you did." His eyes drifted back to the crowd. "Here," He rumbled quietly, leading Cadaver down through the ever-shifting crowd to a large tent. The inside was warm, and only a few people milled about. It was a small menagerie on the inside, animals of exotic and foreign nature flashing between the bars of spacious cages.

"I believe there's a lion here." He mused quietly. "Though I usually only help with the horses." He smiled at Cadaver, his eyes lidding slightly beneath the dim lamplight. "Want to explore?"

Cadaver smiled even wider, hiding his expression under his hood. "It's because I liked kissing you. You always had soft lips and it made you forget about bad things when I did it." He offered as an afterthought, "I'll always want to kiss you if you want me to." He whispered just low enough for Krinn to hear.

Keeping up his pace he followed his long time friend into the large tent. Looking around supplied a view of cages and various animals that Cada had never seen before. "Wow!" He exclaimed on a sigh. "You're so lucky to work here." The pestilence dust offered moving along the cages carefully. "Explore? Sounds like fun. Lead the way."

Suddenly thankful for the shadows the dim lighting provided, Krinn turned his head away, focusing on anything but Cadaver's face. His cheeks flushed a bright color, and with a soft sound of embarrassment he pawed at them, as though willing away the color. "Liar." He hummed finally, quietly, turning back to other with a soft scoff. "I'm not that good a partner for that sort of thing. You have so many choices better than me." His eyes half-lidded, fingers flickering subconsciously to thread through the long ponytail he wore, unknotting small kinks in it. "I would never say no to a kiss from you though." He admitted finally, smiling at Cada, quiet enough that only the other could hear.

His attention flickered back to the cages, waiting patiently as Cada sifted through them all. "It's Caelan's old home." He mentioned quietly, glancing up at the tent's canopy with a soft hum. "He's in the acrobats tent right now." He supplied off-handedly, smiling at the other Dust when he agreed to explore. Once they were out of the tent again, he began to lead Cada around, pointing out different tents and different acts as though he'd memorized them all. "You're lucky you came here tonight." He said quietly as they passed a vendor, his fingers waving in silent greetings. "Sometimes we don't pull everything out and set everything up, depending on where we are." He pointed out the Acrobat's tent and a few fire-breathers on raised platforms some ways away.

It was all so easy to remember, but for some reason it was far more exhilarating now to experience it with someone else.
