Okay so I had a thyroidectomy back in October of '05. Now everyone kept telling me it was a text book surgery and that my scar would heal up pretty rapidly bu that it would be pretty red for a couple of months.
So I did what the doctor told me to do and rubbed lotion and vitmain E onm the scar to help it heal right.
It has now been 5-6 months now and it still looks exactly like it did when all the stiches got taken out. Once again I thought it was just taking longer than expected. But while I was at work last week, I helped a woman who had the same surgery I did, but her scar was completely gone; so I asked her how long it had been since she had her surgery and she said "last month"
Any ideas how to get my scar less visible??

The only thing I know of is Mederma, but that's pretty expensive... neutral

Well, the same applies from stretch marks. It really just depends on your skin type and that comes from genetics.
Mederma supposely works, but it is only effective pretty soon after you get the scar and is like $30 a tube!
As for the other lady, it's hard to compare how yours will heal, but if you are that concerned, you can talk with a dermatologist about making it less noticeable.

Yeah its been a while since my durgery so I don't think the mederma will work. But I'll talk to my doctor about it when I see her next week. Its just frutrating. I was hoping it wouldn'tr be as red for my wedding.
Now the weedding is less than two weeks away and its still angry red.

Maybe you should go to a make up counter and look into a good cover up and some green colored under base. I don't usually wear make up, so I'm not sure what it's called, but I know they make them to help neutralize reds and then put cover up over so they're less noticable. So while it won't be gone, it may make you feel a bit better.
I was going to say almost the same thing Luna did about scarring though. It's really the luck of the draw with genetics and how your body heals itself. With time, I'm sure the scar will fade, it may take longer then it does for other people.

Mhmmm totally agree with pirate. That green base does wonders for black circles around the eyes, so it should be helpful for your scar. I have pretty bad black circles and have been looking everywhere for the best concealer I can find to make my circles disappear, and I have discovered clinique does a great one, its like a pen and its magic! Put it over the green base and it does wonders, so hopefully it would work for you too!
Don't forget we wanna hear more about your wedding plans

I think they also make a more yellow-based one for under eye circles too as they tend to be purple-ish. 3nodding

well, I talked to my doctor and she said that she thinks that....oh goodness what did she call it.......um, something has built up inside a certain portion of my scar....I think it was called 'crystalines' or something to that effect, and that if it doesn't start to dissapate withing the next 2 months to go see a dermatologist or the surgeon who operated on me.
She said it was strange that it hadn't gone down by now because another part of my scar, the area that held the drain tube is barely noticeable at all. But that part is like 1/16 the size of my scar.........

I should seriously have a look for the yellow coloured one though, I've not seen it before. Hikari - although your doc has told you 2 months should sort the problem, what are you planning to do for the wedding? Just wondering smile

I always have scard really badly and what I do to help them fade faster is a pinching thing I read about. Basicly what you want to do is starting at one end of the scar pinch it gently with two fingers and with a slow rolling motion pinch your way down the scar, kinda like kneading it. and do ths two or three times a day, it is supposed to break down the stuff scars are made of. It has helped all my really bad scars so I hope it helps you to biggrin
And pm me if that didnt make sence and I can try to explane it better.

use pure vitamin E oil on the mark. It makes it fade away.. but not completely away.
