Vain... and he knew it, the blue and green male stood at the edge of a steady stream, watching his beautiful reflection ripple with the current. From his gorgeous blue eyes to the black feathers in his mane, he was stunning and he knew it. His tail flicked back and forth as he stood there, oblivious to everything else but the stunning male looking back at him from the water. If he could mate himself he would, though it was physically impossible which made Rogan sad, for who could compete with his beauty? None, perhaps, except for his younger sister Serenity.

 Varteres had been looking just about everywhere for his twin brother, needing to find him. The blue stallion had not seen his twin since that fateful day when their parents were killed. He and Serenity were lucky to bond with a wonderful human girl who became a part of their family and who he couldn't imagine not being around. Dea, Al, Sterling, and Moonbeam were their family too and he would do just about anything for them. It had been Dea who had suggested that he find his brother, knowing Serenity would need all the help she could get. He knew Dea would have done so herself, but she was not really in a condition to travel very far. Varteres knew Dea wanted to help Serenity anyway she could, since Serenity was her first Azrein. Yes, he had bonded with her too, but awhile after his sister, Dea and Serenity seeming to have a deep connection. Granted, Varteres knew Dea was close to all of them, but Serenity seemed to understand her just a bit more.
Varteres was deep in thought when he came upon a stream, not immediately seeing his twin brother. In fact, he didn't really notice anything around him until he stuck a hoof into the water with a splash. The noise seemed to break him out of his thoughts and he looked down, seeing he was near a stream.
"Good going, you have got to learn to watch where you are going. If anything happened to me, I can only imagine how much more pain Serenity and Dea would be in,"he grumbled. Luckily, it had just been a stream, but if one of the Six had found him so preoccupied....he didn't want to think about it.

SPLASH Rogan's head snapped up from his reverie as he looked towards the sound, seeing a handsome blue stallion, not unlike his twin Varteres had looked like when they were younger. He backed away from the stream cautiously, not knowing if the stranger was good or evil.
He gave a small whinny, to alert the other, see what he would do. If it came to a fight, Rogan would be more than prepared to battle the ill fated member of the Six, but hopefully he wouldn't have to dirty his hooves.
"Hail, Stranger! And woe be unto thee that dare fight me this day!" He called, relying upon the formal way of speaking his friend had taught him as a child.

Varteres hears flicked forward when he saw a light blue stallion nearby. He thought of how this stallion looked like his brother, but he knew he could be wrong. It had been awhile since he had seen his twin, so he would address the stallion cautiously.
"If you serve the king, then you are no enemy of mine, stranger. I am in search of my twin brother, who I have not seen in a long time. I must find him because our sister, Serenity, is doing poorly. She is in the thralls of grief,"he explained.

Rogan's ears went back into normal position as he listened to the male tell about how he was looking for his twin. Funny.. I have a twin.. Then how their sister Serenity... wait a minute. His eyes widened as he stepped forward. "Where is she, and what is wrong?" He asked in a panic. He looked the stallion up and down. It was his brother.
"Brother I insist. Take me to her now." He said carefully.

Varteres neighed in delight as the other confirmed he was indeed his twin. Then his eyes became very sad as the other asked about their sister. He cleared his throat and pawed at the ground, searching for the words that would explain this.
"She is back at the King's stables, barely coming out of it anymore. She has been out of it maybe a couple times, but most of her time is in the stables. She looks terrible, brother, and we are all at a loss of what to do for her. She is pregnant and so is mine and Serenity's chosen, who is not much better off than our sister. Dea, that's the human's name, is trying to keep it together, for all of us and everyone else dear to her, though. As to why our sister is in pain, she lost her lifemate in that attack that happened,"he replied.

Rogan's eyes misted. How could anything harm little sweet Serenity.. the little filly his brother had left with years ago. "Take me to her, Brother..." He said, his voice gruff with emotion.
It was past time. He should have visited months ago... but.. he'd been to ashamed, leaving them behind like so... His heart hurt knowing that he hadn't been there for Serenity.

Varteres nodded his head gracefully, wishing he had come to his brother with better news. He could see the pain in the eyes of his twin brother, knowing it hurt him to hear the condition of their sister. He motioned with his head, before he took off in the direction of the king's stable, knowing his brother would follow.
"You should have seen them together, Brother, Txopu really loved Serenity. He was a brave soul, who would have done just about anything for her. He treated her like a princess and I can only imagine it pained him to leave her like this,"he explained over his shoulder.

Rogan followed his brother, matching his twin step for step, stride for stride. They're bodies, though not mirror images of each other, were beautifully matched. Any that came into view of the two would instantly know that the two were related.
He was silent as he followed his brother, listening to Varteres speak about Serenity and her late mate Txopu. "Txopu... that is an unfamiliar name..." He muttered to himself softly. Then again.. maybe not so strange... there were many different names and beings on the Isle.
"He must of loved her very much.. Is she.. with foals?" He asked near silence.

Varteres smiled sadly at his brother's comments, then nodded his head to the question. He knew Serenity would be giving birth sometime soon, part of the reason they needed to pull her out of her depression. Serenity had not been eating as much as she should have been, which was probably not the best for the babies growing inside of her.
"Yes, little ones are growing inside of her as we speak, brother. She and Txopu were lucky that she conceived before the Six killed him and others of the Greater Herd. I just wish we could get her to eat more and take a little better care of herself,"he replied.

Rogan gave a little growl at the thought of Serenity not eating. She was already so small.. course... that was when she was a young filly.. perhaps she had filled out more?
He kept on in silence, softly brooding over the predicament the Isle was in. He would need to take a stand.. perhaps Serenity and Varteres' human could help him out.
After what seemed like several hours, but in actuality was only a few minutes.. maybe thirty, Rogan spoke up. "Are we there yet?"

Varteres walked with his brother in silence, knowing that his brother was probably thinking of their sister. He knew he had not seen Serenity since they were little, so he was sure to be wondering how she had been before all of this. At his brother's words, he let a gentle laugh escape his lips, before turning to face him.
"Brother, do you see any stables in view? We will be there in about half an hour more of walking, it will be hard to miss. The stable is very grand and it houses many of the Azrein of the royal court,"he explained.

Rogan sighed and dipped his head in acknowledgement. They trod on for longer, and finally, the grand stables came into view. His breath caught in his throat as he studied the buildings, so vast and beautiful. He looked to his brother. "Are we there yet?" He asked, amazement clouding his voice.
Many young azrein played about, and he saw a few humans doing chores or tasks. What had he gotten himself into?

Varteres felt his heart soar as he saw the beauty of the stables, a place so familiar to him. He looked over to his brother and nodded his head gracefully to his question.
"Yes, this is the king's stables, it is quite a magnificent place. This is one of the places myself and the rest of Dea's Azrein stay, at least when Dea is at the castle,"he spoke. He knew his chosen was in with Serenity, probably trying to get her to eat again.

Rogan shook his awe out, though he was still shocked in his head. "So where is she, Brother?" he asked, feeling a strange pull of his heart and head. It was near painful, this need... he didn't know what to make of it.
