The day was slightly cold for the season but the bluish grey mare didn't seem to notice. She was to bust looking down to want to know what the weather was. It looked like she was examining the grass for the best pickings. But really she was watching the path of a small beetle. trying to see where it went why it was going there, whether it was looking for food or not. And she was so engrossed in this she didn't even know that she had been in that field from first sunlight to midday. Even if she did know she wouldn't care, nor would anyone else. Well unless they were a curious fellow who would want to understand what this young mare was doing staring so closely and the ground for hours on end.

Vayu had been flying for hours now and for once he felt he needed the solid earth under his feet. The wind had seemed to pick up a slight chill that he didn't care for at the moment. It seemed to be telling him, now would be a good time to touch the earth. Plus his stomach seemed to be telling him the same thing.
Vayu was far up in the sky, he circled around a bit trying to spot a clearing. Soon he found a small green patch that was different from the darker green. He glided down slowly. As he did so he contemplated the meaning of the earth. Outside of the wind it was the second most comfortable element, but he still had a lot to learn.
His belly grumbled a little. He must fly down and touch the earth every time he was hungry. The earth was the provider and gave stability under his feet...or more correctly everyone's feet. Vayu pondered on this as the earth got closer.
He watched as the details of the land became more and more distinct. He soon noticed a grey mare grazing in the meadow. So he decided to introduce himself to her, better to be polite. But as he was about to land he noticed she wasn't grazing but studying something. He glided down in front of her, his feet lightly touching the ground, hoping not to disturb whatever she was doing. He then quietly followed her gaze and saw the beetle. And he sat watching it too, forgetting about the introduction.

The beetle that Livi, and now the blue stallion, were looking at was a common black ground beetle. It was long and sleek and black. And Livi was trying to see if she could flow one to there home. To see if they were like ants with a large nest, or if they just lived on their own. Though at the moment she was having great difficulty following one for longer then a minute. They always seem to hide from site so easily. And each time they fled from her sight she felt the need to pay more attention to the small moving beetle. So much so that at this point she didn't notice any other thing around her. Not even the stallion that just landed in front of her. So when she moved a few steps forward and ran into him she did't know what to do. "What!? What who are you?" She said looking at the winged male flooded with mixed feelings. First was anger, 'how dare he block her path and make her lose yet another beetle?' Then excitement, 'Oh a wind! How lucky I rarely run into these. How nice it is to fly on those wings of his.' And lastly interest. 'How did one beetle make her so blind she didn't even see a full grown stallion approach her?' But even with all of these emotions she still had heart and mind to start thinking up questions. "How did you land so i didn't know you where there? Where you examining the beetle too? Do you know if beetles like that live in colonies or solo homes? How high can you fly?How would you describe flying? When you fly how much do you think about it and how much just happens?" She would have continued but felt she should leave him room to recover so he could answer her properly.

Vayu had never really paid much attention to insects before, especially since he was used to spending so much time in the air. But this mares interest seemed to say to him pay closer attention to this small creature. He found himself amazed that he had missed something like this before. He was mesmerized by the beetle and was soon contemplating the meaning of it's world. He wondered what it would be like to see the world from this insects point of view. The grass must be like a tree to it.
He was so caught in his own thoughts and watching the beetle he didn't even see the mare move and found startled, jumping back a bit, when she ran into him. He looked quickly around for the beetle but didn't see it anymore. He hoped he hadn't stepped on it. He would have to watch where he stepped from now on to make sure he didn't kill any insects.
He tried to take in all of her questions, he had never been asked so many at one time. She seemed to have a foal like curiosity to her and he liked that.
"I'm sorry I didn't introduced myself, I'm Vayu. I landed softly as not to disturb what you were doing and to get a closer look myself. I've never really examined beetles before or any insects so I don't really know anything about them, but now that I look closer they are quite fascinating." With this he looked around for the beetle again not finding it. He turned back to the mare smiling and answered her next set of questions, ones he was much more use to hearing. "I can fly above the clouds if I want to and it's kind of like watching a beetle. You can get lost in it. It comes naturally like walking but without the ground below or feet. Kind of like how it feels to swim." He wasn't sure if this mare had ever been in the water, but it was the thing he thought most comparable to flying.
"Have you been in water before...um..." He searched for her name and then realized he did not know it. Meeting this mare made him feel less observant than he thought he was, and felt a little unlike his normal self. "I'm sorry but I don't remember if you told me your name." He had never forgotten a name before or even not remembered if it was told to him.

Livi's eye's widened then squinted together in surprised disbelief. Him comparing swimming and flying she could not believe. She had tried to swim once. She was trying to find some mer's to talk to and on the first trip just got a lot of water up her nose. "Swimming does not seem like flying to me. Well, at least not to those not made for it. I'm sure mer's and kelpies find it easy to swim. I did not."
With that statement on swimming she turned back to the more interesting topic of flying with a smile, "You can fly higher then the clouds can you? I was making some observations last spring and came to a hypothesis that rain is not a gift given from clouds before they leave but the clouds them selfs falling from the sky. I also believe fog is just a grounded cloud. And it seems to make the air more moist. So have you ever gone into a cloud to see if it was made of water?"
She stared at him waiting and thinking at the same time. "Wait so you have swam before? Did your wings and light bones help you swim? Or do they make it more difficult? Do you float? Why even try swimming when you can fly? Did you learn as a child or an adult? How taught you how to swim?"
Those questions had come after he had asked her name. Remembering that he had asked something she stops for a second to remember what he had asked before telling him in an off handed manner. She didn't really care about names she more wanted to know the answers to her questions. "I'm Livi. So about swimming?"

Vayu thought to himself that there must be a better analogy for flying then swimming. "I guess having wings makes it easier for me in the water than those who do not have wings. I will have to remember that in the future when I explain flying," He said in a calm tone towards her disbelief.
He was thankful she switched the topic back to flying as he was more comfortable with that and she seemed to be to. He found her observation about the clouds interesting. He hadn't thought too much about the clouds and the rain since he was a foal. The wetness of them seemed to be normal to him now. He thought carefully about how to respond to her. "Your observation is insightful. The clouds do seem to be made of water and air. I prefer not to fly to much in clouds as it seems to make my hair and wings a bit heavier. I think the rain is the gift of the clouds. And I agree fog is like a cloud."
Vayu smiled at the mare. "Ah Livi...nice to meet you. You sure are filled with questions," he said with appreciation. Then he turned to answering the rest of her questions. "Yes I have been swimming before. I grew up in a village near the sea and my parents taught me to swim when I was a foal. I believe my wings and light bones do help me swim better than a ground soquilli but not anywhere close to how a kelpi or mer can swim. When I swim I paddle on the surface mostly floating I guess but it I don't paddle I start to sink. It takes more work then flying but being in water is different than being in air because it is a different element. There is something to be learned from each element."
