It was just too hot. She didn't really like summertime, no sirree. She didn't fret about it, of course... that was counter to her nature. However, she did tend to become horribly languid and sluggish. To her mind, summer was the time to sloooow doooown. She had a favorite place to hang out during the sweltering days of heat, a place where the land dipped deeply, so near to the river that it formed an inlet of tranquil water. Droopy-branched trees grew on the banks, leaning inwards towards the cool water, as if savoring the vapor that rose from the water on hot days such as this one. The banks themselves were usually slightly damp, and quite cool to the touch.
Today was one of those most unbearable days, which meant she'd come here not too long after the sun had risen. Oh, she could hear others who enjoyed the heat talking and going about their day, but she simply could not stir herself to join them. Instead, she sprawled on the damp earth and panted. Despite being languid, though, she also was feeling quite lonely. Her mate was off doing something, since this was his time of year. They spent time together in the evenings, but during the day, she often was alone. What she needed was... a friend.
That isn't to say she didn't have friends. But perhaps one of her own clan would care to come join her in staying cool and hydrated? She lazily raised her head to look around, pondering possibilities. If she was lucky, maybe someone would happen along! She had to let them know she was here, though. She slowly clambered to her paws, fighting the urge to lay back down and nap instead. She scanned the area, and thought she saw movement not far away. Aha! She gave a sharp yip of greeting and calling, wordlessly beckoning them with her voice. Surely whoever it was would come see, at the very least!

Áine may have been part of the Mrao, but she found joy in all the seasons and even the heat could not dim the beauty of summer. Though of course she preferred the cooler days of winter, the shimmering heat and glory of the high sun was surely a sight to see. One just had to be more careful not to over-do things during the hottest months.
This day she was alone, not a usual state for her... as her beloved brother had gone on some errand or other, and the blazing heat had dictated that she stay put under their tree with its thick, glorious shade. But one could only go for so long with nothing to do and eventually sheer boredom had driven her out from under the shadowed sanctuary. Yet even with her pale-as-snow fur, the heat blasted against her back the minute she stepped into the sunlight and just as quickly as she had left her own safe spot of shade, she started to search for another to retreat too, though hopefully the new location would have some company.
A call off to one side caught her attention and she turned towards the voice, recognizing the green and turquoise fur of a female hyena. She didn't know the other female incredibly well, but being part of the same pride meant she at least knew her by sight.
"Hello Baridi!" She called out, happy for the distraction from the heat. Turning she trotted slowly over towards where the hyena was safely tucked away on the lee of the river, under the thick shade cast by water-loving leaves. "Quite the hot day isn't it." She gasped with a friendly grin as she finally made it to the shaded haven and dropped onto her rump, tongue lolling from the side of her jaws as she panted in a rather futile attempt to cool down.

She panted a happy grin at seeing it was a fellow Mrao. "Come chill, Aine," she invited immediately. "The mud feels heavenly." Granted, it wasn't very clean, but it not only cooled you now, but if you left a nice amount on your back, she'd discovered it could also shield you from periodic sunshine. It didn't make her very popular with others, but she didn't mind. It was really only the fussy, uppity kind that griped at her about her muddy state.
Today, however, she hadn't coated herself in mud. She just was laying on the damp ground, perilously close to the mud and water's edge. "The water's a bit warm, but it can feel nice to take a dip and then lay in the shade," she offered lazily. "I'm too comfortable to move myself." As if to prove her point, she flopped back down again, so that she was sprawled out on the cool earth. "Is it easier or harder to have a white coat in this heat?" she added curiuosly. Her own coat was quite light, but her languid mind began musing if having white was different than light.

Smiling the young wild dog chuckled. "I bet it does." She was not at all adverse to getting a bit muddy in order to stay cool, but she was just fussy enough about her fur to not choose the mud as a first option. However, swimming in the pool was high on her 'to-do' list at some point during the day.
Distracted from watching the light ripple across the surface of the terribly inviting water, she looked back at the hyena with a thoughtful smile. "Ahh... well, its certainly easier than having a black coat... and my brother seems to have a slightly harder time than I do with the heat." Though whether that was because his coat was darker than hers, or the fact that he was a large male lion, was difficult to tell. "I truly would not like to be darkly coloured in this heat... and in winter I match the snow!" That was one of her favorite things about her colouration, as she adored the high mountain peeks and longed to travail up and visit those high, cold places sometime in her life. Standing she padded forwards, paws making soft squelchy sounds as she moved down the muddy bank, her pristine paws going from icy blue to muddy brown.
"I may have a swim... wana come?" She asked, looking back at Baradi with a wag of her tail.

Sprawled on her side, she pondered having black fur in the summer heat. Ugh! Even just dark fur must be hard, but black? She shuddered her hide at the very thought. Oh yes, she most definitely was meant to be of the Mrao clan. She smiled up at her clan-sister at the invitation, lifting her tail and thumping it several times into the muddy ground. "No thanks," she answered, even as her tail tip began flinging mud around. Several clumps arced through the air towards the wild dog, and baridi flattened her large ears.
"Uh, sorry," she said sheepishly, but without a lot of concern. "Guess it was a good thing you were going to take a dip anyway, eh?" Though extremely mellow and able to laugh easily, Baridi was not so dense as to laugh at someone if that person was not at all amused, so she kept her impending giggle-snort securely shut behind her teeth. Very deliberately, she set her tail back down into the muddy bank and held it still, though it clearly took an effort to both keep it still and not laugh.
