Madison was wandering again.
In the days since Deus' 'liberation' from the power of Merlin, Madison had rattled around her dorm like a pea in an overly large pod, restless yet with no target for her energy. The Horsemen had retreated, as had the freaks, and she had no way to go after them. Her only solace was that she'd successfully brought Israfel into Deus' hands, but until his Hunter awoke...
Well.
The Death trainee made her way over to the sparring arena. At least she could take out some of her frustration on the dummies.

Aria still wasn't used to the silence. In all her time as being a hunter, her weapon was always there. It was a comforting feeling, once that created a physical ache the more the Mist Leader thought about it. Even in times of silence her weapon would express her feelings, giving her non-vocal input. Aria missed her. It didn't matter that the weapon was kept close to her side. Just touching the hilt of it reminded her that it was warmed only by her touch, not by the presence within it. It was a silly notion: her weapon's totem form couldn't produce heat, and her weapon form generated cold. She kept her hands tight, forcing herself to concentrate on the training dummy before her. Left, right, left, left, right, jab! The pole axe wasn't a weapon she favored, or personally would have picked. But it would do for now. Or at least it worked until the bladed became buried in the wooden part of a training dummy thanks to an overzealous swing. Swearing, Aria began to work at prying the blade free.

Madison quietly watched the other person sparring for a moment; she didn't recognize the Mist Leader immediately, partially because... well, when did she ever see any Division leaders just wandering around the Island like the 'common' Hunters did? When the woman began struggling with the weapon, though, Madison took a step forward. "Here, I can brace the dummy if you-" Blink. The Death trainee stiffened, finally realizing who she was addressing. "Er, if you need it, ma'am," she finished, stumbling into some kind of salute-ish thing. She was never sure how to approach the Division leads, because all Caelius did was yell at you and then leave...

"That would be... very helpful," Aria replied, gesturing for Madison to come forward and hold the dummy in place. "Gah! I hate these dummies. They're all well and good for practice, but when you hit them in the wrong spot? Ugh. The last thing I need is -- come on you b*****d! For some runic techie to chew me out for putting a nick in it." As she spoke, Aria alternating between wiggling and pulling on the weapon, striving to get it out of its lodged place. "Come on... Ah! Gotcha!" The Mist division leader stumbled back as the weapon came free, frowning as she looked at the blade. "Ugh. I need to be more careful about this. Thank you, ah..." She trailed off, studying Madison. "...I fear I recognize you from a trip to the North Pole outpost, but your name slips my mind. You are...?"

"Madison McKenzie, ma'am - Death division. Uh, obviously," she added, quickly, brushing at her coat. "And, um, yes, I don't think we've talked much before... I thought you'd taught me how to fight, but that was, uh. The... the other one. But then I stabbed her in the forehead, so..." ... ahahahaha what the ******** are you saying, Madison."... uh. Sorry," she said, sheepishly, stemming the flow of babble. "I, uh, glad I could help. And it's nice to meet you, I, um. It's always very inspiring to see other women kicking a**, taking names, and not taking any s**t from my Division leader," she added, wryly.

"Obviously from behind, yes," Aria replied dryly, "But from the front, not so much. I've seen Moon hunters with their emblem positioned just so that makes it difficult to tell whether they were Moon or Death, and vice versa." She paused, considering. "Come to think of it, I don't see them around anymore... I wonder why that is?" She shrugged it off, leaning on her runic weapon. "Nevertheless, it is a pleasure to meet you, Madison. And thank you for the compliment. Caelius and I... We go back, I suppose." She shrugged. "It's easiest to assume that no matter what his panties are caught in a bunch. Or that he's constantly on his time of the month," a wry grin was shared with Madison at that. "Anyway. What brings you to the training grounds today? Here to practice or...?"

"Just practice... I could always use it. Gotta keep in shape, and all," Madison said, feeling a little more at ease thanks to Aria's easy greeting. And, y'know, poking fun at Caelius never hurt the bonding process any. "Do you practice with lots of different weapons? I only ever use this guy..." She held out her hand and summoned Kouki, the blades forming in their scabbards hung about her waist; she drew one sword, then a second one. "Kind of overkill, having four, but-" Rude, Kouki complained. Sorry, sorry~ "I never did any kind of fighting that wasn't hair-pulling and crap before I came here. Using a weapon that isn't Kouki feels really weird to me now." Marushii holy crap I managed to forget about this entirely during my illness-hiatus, if you're interested in finishing it...?

Aria nodded. "I do. Symphony --" she shifted the runic weapon to her other hand and withdrew a dagger at her side. In a moment Aria's weapon replaced the dagger. "Symphony here," Aria continued as she held up her flamethrower, "Has her moments where she shines. For others... Well, there are times when fire isn't enough." The division leader dismissed her weapon, sheathing it. "I'd personally recommend getting used to your weapon before you consider branching out. Especially with four swords, carrying around anything else might be too heavy for you. What was your weapon's previous form?" Aria inquired, nodding towards the swords. "I haven't seen many weapons... Ah, like that? Not to say that it's in several parts or pieces, but it's... multiple? Several swords as opposed to one," she concluded with a shrug. Sosiqui NO IT IS TOO LATE AHAHAH naw I'm kiddin, of course I am! <3

Madison gave the flamethrower a bit of an uneasy look, thinking of the identical weapon that had become part of that beast, that not-Aria freak that had nearly taken them all out. It was the false Aria who had taught Madison and Kouki how to fight, and she hadn't had any time during their group operations to watch any individual Hunters in action. (Other than Caelius, who seemed to demand attention. Well.) "He was a four-headed snake - serpent, sorry," she amended at a huffy hiss from Kouki. "Near as I can figure out, each head is a sword. His, um, voice in my head is kind of... like there's four of them, but they all talk at exactly the same time and say exactly the same thing. The only time I can even use all four at once is when he does his FEAR attack. I switch off, otherwise." She turned her body away from Aria and swished one blade through the air, keeping it well away from the Mist Hunter. "I don't think I've ever seen a weapon who was still a weapon when unsummoned," she added, curiously.

"That makes us even, then," Aria laughed. "I haven't seen a weapon like yours either. I've seen a couple weapons come in sets, like a bow and arrow... but that's as close as I've seen, personally." At the additional comment, Aria shrugged. "I'm not... sure what dictates a totem form, or even how a weapon is made. You might want to ask someone in the Life division about that. They tend to keep their information to themselves whenever it comes to runics," she explained apologetically. "Regardless... I can see why you switch off. Using all four at once would be rather difficult, not to mention unwieldy." Aria drummed her fingers on the glaive, thinking. "I'm not... exactly familiar with that type of blade," she began, "But I can spar you, if you'd like. Otherwise my assistant Lance might be able to help you out better. As an ex-Sun, there aren't many weapons he isn't familiar with."

"Spar? With me?" Madison's eyes widened; she felt a rush of mixed fear and eagerness. "I... I would be honored, ma'am, though I'm sure you'll wipe the floor with me," she said, quickly. "Though, um. Maybe... not with the flamethrower? I know it'd give me an advantage, though. I just. Don't like fire." She grimaced. "One of the Horseman-freaks plays with it too ******** much..."

Aria shook her head as she laughed. "I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit, Madison. A master swordsman's enemy is not another rival but rather someone who is inexperienced, as they are not afraid to try something new and unpredictable. A swordsmaster became a master by sticking to specific techniques, whereas someone who is new..." She trailed off, letting Madison fill in the rest. At her request, Aria nodded. "Of course. Symphony is better suited for fieldwork than spars." She nodded toward the runic polearm she held. "I can fight you with this, or another weapon if you prefer."

"Really?" Madison looked vaguely confused. Maybe this was one of the things you learned from movies and stuff, like what Bix had talked about when they'd been sparring, way back when they were both trainees. She nodded, though, cautiously. "I like fighting things that are way bigger than me, honestly. They're slow. I'm fast," she added, with a hint of pride in her voice. "Me and Kouki aren't built to hold up against heavy attacks, so we move. In and out, quick strikes, kind of thing. And, um, that is fine." She nodded at the polearm.

Kouki hissed a warning, and Madison jumped back - not fast enough, though, as the polearm skidded against Kouki's FEAR shield, leaving a bruise in its wake. "Noted," she said, then turned her dodge into a lunge, bringing one of Kouki's blades around and letting momentum bring force to her strike. Part of her was terrified - she was beating on a Division Leader. She couldn't imagine Caelius permitting such a thing for more than ten seconds before Circe would be out and she'd be done. Dr. H... oh, god, no. But she felt as though she could trust Aria. ... and wasn't that a novelty. HP: 45/50 Damage: 6 Fear Charges: 1/3
