Well, I'm just curious on why he left. "I'm leaving" threads with no explanation seem, to me, like pity threads. "Be sad, I'm leaving, there's nothing you can do about it" is what they all sound like to me, with no telling why they left. ._.
Yet, I do agree.. Every guild I know of has had at least one "I'm leaving" thread. D: (Off topic, I haven't seen you in a while Anaesthetic <3)
Personally, when I leave a guild, I just leave. XD I don't tell anyone. If I don't like that guild enough to where I want to leave, why would I want to let them all know that fact?

Whenever I leave a guild, which to date on Gaia has only been one... -shifty eyes, whispers- They were all jerks. Had nothing nice to say about anyone ever... Ahem, anyway, back on topic...
When I left the other guild I was in, I made a thread to let them know I was going, and I followed it with a single link which led to a site with a movie of two cars colliding and exploding, sending metal and plumes of fire in many directions, lighting trees and bushes and such ablaze... Which was followed with...
"This is pretty much where the guild is going. Have fun!"
Kinda made me a jerk to say that to them. Oh well.

I've told two guilds that I was leaving them and why. One because they were jerks. And I told them that, too. They apologized and I went back. Now they're helping me pay back my nitemare scarf.
To the other guild...I just sort of "quit" them. I exiled myself from them until further notice because I was the vice captain and they kept yelling at me for doing things that my job entailed. o.O

I've only left one guild, and it was because I had become horribly inactive in it anyway...no one would even notice I was gone if I quit.
I've been sticking it out in all the other ones.

I checked the link and it has since been deleted it seems. All I get is a 404 and Firefox going...
"T3h pagzorz no worky-worky! LOLZ!"
I still have no idea why I modded Firefox to give that to me as a 404... -_-;;

I never leave the guilds I join, even if I'm inactive for months. I let the guildmaster kick me instead.
